Liveboot from @Chainfire works still. I use it on one of my phones. Boot time takes a little longer, but watching the log of your phone booting up is kinda neat.

[APP][5.0+][ROOT][2022.02.06] LiveBoot (Logcat/Dmesg Boot Animation) v1.86 Que ? LiveBoot is a boot animation that shows you logcat and dmesg outputs on-screen as they happen. Output configuration includes logcat level, buffer and format...

Gee, that really looks neat. Thanks a lot, without your post I would have missed for another 9 yrs
*installing*
I use to use Boot animation for superuser here I haven't used it in a while. But there's tons of boot animation and you can create your own boot animations also. I might play around with it and give it a try again

I just updated my boot animation to a custom theme, but it seems the splash screen loads far more slowly. I would think it makes more sense to put an animated file there, but I am having trouble finding one. Can I simply load a .zip file to the location of the splash screen, or will that not work?
As I read more about this, it seems it might not be possible to have an animated splash screen. Has anyone been able to get around this?
From what I understand the .img file for the splash can not be animated.
There is no work around that I have ever seen.

Could you just disable the splash screen altogether and just have a custom boot animation?

That would be great.

No the image is needed....But you can make it black or another solid color instead.
Any idea where the splash screen is hidden away?
The splash screen is a mtd partition like the HBOOT is but is called SPLASH1.I think on the G1 There was SPLASH1 and SPLASH2 iirc.
You cannot remove the SPLASH1 as its kind of like the BIOS loading screen on your computer, It checks files are there before moving on to the bootanimation (POST BIOS if you like) You could always use the first frame of your bootanimation as the splash so it looks like it hangs before loading?
Yeah, that's what I intend to do. If you left it blank, you wouldn't even know it's turning on if it wasn't for the vibrate!
Just need to find a way for me to edit my splash screen then.

There is a thread in the apps and theme section right above your post about a livewallpaper that has a good splash tool.

Yeah, just tried it. It won't let me pick my own image though for some unknown reason!
In the Coredroid ROM thread there is another splash tool in the first few post.

It's okay, figured it out. That splash flasher batch file is written wrong.
What's happening is it's converting your image to custom.img, but it then tries to push splash.img onto the phone. There was already a splash.img bundled in the zip file, hence that was the one that kept showing up!
I fixed it...
i must have had a corrupt image.
I make the boot animations used in Beanstown's "jelly beans" rom. I have been working on a new one but I keep getting a white flash between each loop of the animation. I have had this problem before and couldn't track it down.
If someone could please download and test this animation, that would be great.
download
place this in data/local
or system media (change permissions to match the old one)
Thanks
I gave it a shot, and it works fine but I do get the white flashes that you spoke of.

Hi,
I am using Nexus 5(rooted). I was trying to customize a boot animate myself. However, it shows nothing after I modified it.
For now, it will show only black screen after the White Google logo with unlock.
I don't know how to fix phone now, screen show nothing. System should be fine. the screen lock is working because I hear the screen lock sound, and I can unlock it. I have the original bootanimation.zip. I can get in the MTP drive when I connect it to my computer . However, I remember the USB debugging mode is off. Is there any way to fix it through computer? Bootloader is working on phone
Thanks
If you have custom recovery, boot into it and adb push
Bootanimation black is common if image is incorrect bit depth. Never heard of it making the rom black too. How long have you left it on for to check?

I did the system back up after I root the nexus 5. is this the custom recovery?
Would you mind tell me more how to do it? Thanks a lot. I just start to use android =(.
I can get in recovery mode, but there is nothing in "restore" section.
I tried to use "wipe" --> "advanced wipe" -->"system" to fix it on fastboot boarder. And, now it stucks at White Google logo. Not even get in to system now.. Help :crying:

You have no OS now you wiped system, either push or sideload a custom rom or flash the stock image.
Ok. Fixed. Thank you for helping all =D
I downloaded the rom here and put it in USB
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557523

Oke, glad you fixed it :good:
Bit depth is important when making your own boot images. I don't know if it's changed since donut 1.6 but back then you could not compress the zip either or you would end up with a solid black animation.
If you use 7zip you set compression level to store

whats the solution for boot animation black in samsumg ?
I installed a theme via playstore (a cyanogenmod theme), I accidentally clicked the boot animations option (usually seems like a bad idea, so I usually stay away), now it won't boot up.
It won't detect in adb
Any ideas? Without having to fully wipe the device
Thanks

Did you try to boot it in safe mode?
Accidentally installed a boot theme and it worked flawlessly for me. Didn't like it as much as the original one from Cyanogenmod so I removed it.

If you're on cm12 long press power button till the power off screen comes. Then long tap power off button. That will give you the option of booting into safemode.
Hello,
My device is rooted, with custom boot animation, and the battery charging animation doesn't shows up when the device is turned off.
it's just stuck on the "the bootloader is unlocked" screen
I've already tried to flash the original boot animation, but it didn't succeed...
Hope someone knows how to fix it.
Thanks.
It's a known magisk bug with the latest oxygen release (9.0.2).
The phone charges anyway but you don't see the charging animation.
We have 3 options:
- waiting and hoping for next magisk/oxygen update to fix It
- charging phone while It Is on
- unroot

YEs, go to MAgisk Cannary channel (Google it), if you uninstall magisk, charge animation appears...
Thank you Glsoto.
Are the developers of Magisk and Oxygen OS been made aware of this issue?
