Question Pixel 7 Pro: Blocked by Verizon, but unblocked at the same time. - Google Pixel 7 Pro

I live in Paraguay and I bought my Pixel 7 Pro from Amazon Renewed, I thought that since the phone is super new this phone will work fine, which is true except for the Verizon part.
The box from the seller said that sometimes the phones can tell you that the SIM wasn't supported, but with an update, everything will be OK and working smoothly.
I connect my Old Phone to the new one, let it update, and everything looked like it could work, except the SIM card.
I had the notification saying: "SIM Card isn't supported, Ask Verizon if the device can be unlocked. Tap here for contact details."
I tried every possible way to make it work but wasn't able. I tried updating the Android, ADB Shell, and Bootloader, and nothing.
I contacted Verizon and after talking for ages with them, after checking my IMEI they told me the phone IS in fact unblocked.
Verizon and the Seller of the phone told me that maybe my carrier didn't support the phone. That wasn't true because when I do a factory reset of the phone and activated it completely offline, my phone picks up 4G LTE from my carrier TIGO from Paraguay, but as soon it connected via my SIM card internet, I got the same notification: SIM card isn't supported.
Funny enough, with the Factory Reset of the phone and turning off the Mobile Data from my SIM card I was able to make a phone call with no problem at all, so it's not a problem from my carrier.
But IT'S SEEMS is not a Verizon problem either.
Is the phone (android) problem maybe? I have NO IDEA how to go about this problem. Can you help me?

Sounds like that phone is SIM locked. If you asked them if it's blocked, that could mean they checked the blacklist to see if it was a stolen device, not the SIM lock status.
Contact Amazon and start the return process because as you're not the original owner, they won't just unlock the phone for you. Also, the Verizon model is not the one you want anyway, it's permanently bootloader locked.

Yeah, I thought so!
I'm just trying to make it work since I already have the phone, but it seems I don't have much luck

Verizon in the USA is moving to e-sim only. we had a couple phones at work where we needed to take out a sim they supplied and use the e-sim

It could be that you need a new sim card. You could ask Verizon to send you new sim card and see if that works.
However from the message that you said the phone is giving you it really sounds like the device is sim locked to another carrier. I would return it to Amazon right away. If you want to try another renewed device I would try to contact the seller and tell them of the problem you had and that they have to make sure to send you an unlocked device.

Actually, I'm not a Verizon customer, I don't even live in the US, so I cannot have Verizon as my carrier.
I don't know, I wanted to ask for help, so maybe tomorrow, someone can read a solution here like I always did!

I guess I am confused by your post. Why would you call Verizon on the first place if they are not your carrier? Unless you found that the device is a locked Verizon phone. If it is sim locked to Verizon then only Verizon can unlock it. If Verizon said it was unlocked but it was at one point locked to Verizon then it may have not been properly unlocked by the original owner. It could also be that the sim unlock by previous owner didn't completely work. Either way you are going to be out of luck trying to unlock it yourself.
I went through unlock hell with t mobile with a device that I paid for and was eligible to be unlocked but because I didn't buy the phone through T-Mobile they couldn't unlock it.
I would highly suggest that you return it unless you know for a fact that it is an unlocked phone and always was an unlocked phone.
I wish I could help or give some other advice but it would be worse if you tinkered with the device and couldn't return it and ended up in the same position. Best to return it as quickly as you can. Get your money back. Then try again, try to get a new unlocked Pixel if possible another way?

I called Verizon because the phone said to talk to them, so yeah, like you said, it was SIM locked by them!

If it was supposed to be an "unlocked" phone that you purchased, I would send it back. Amazon should not have sent you a Verizon phone if it was supposed to be unlocked.

Yes, I ended up doing that today!

i have the same issue, meanwhile please do this
factory reset, set up the phone offline, then
enable android debugging
adb shell
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.work.oobconfig
reboot
for my case:
my phone can be legally unlock by verizon if stayed the first 2months on verizon service

Go here https://www.imeipro.info/check_lg.html and check IMEI, you'll find some fact to get the best vision on that, and for both, and always, be sure to upload some images/SS from your issue, to better figure it out some try, avoid some sensitive data like IMEI, just cover it.

By the way, what does this command is supposed to do? I have checked my P2XL, and it appears as a VRX version not VRZ, then, not sure if it was from VZN at some time, but It doesn't let me unlock the bootloader, I got the OEM unlock to toggled, but I can't unlock it anyway. I have no problem with calls, though.

try this, if your pixel had teken december patch update

SIM Unlock T-Mobile LG G5

Hello All,
Any recommendations to a website that will Sim Unlock my T-Mobile device to use it on international GSM?
Thanks
Are you currently a T-Mobile customer or no? If so you should be able to get them to unlock it for you. If not I don't know the answer.
Ebay and other unlocking sites offer the T-Mobile app unlock up for sale, anywhere between 25-50 bucks or so.
There is an app on there to check if you are eligible for unlock.
Traditionally, you could call T-Mo's Customer Care and request an unlock. They have been generally pretty lenient on letting people unlock (especially for long time customers).
However, seeing as there is this unlock app built in to the phone that has a temporary unlock option, you may only get authorized to use that until your phone is paid off or something to that extent.
It is definitely worth a call.

I purchased the phone from ebay USA, and i live abroad already. Then found out when i got the phone and tried using my local SIM that it were locked
But now i got it unlocked, for anybody else seeking unlock service PM me.

Bought my wife's G5 from T-Mobile Online. Called to request to have it unlocked and they told me they have a 40 day waiting period then I can have it unlocked. They waived it immediately once I told them I was in the military and currently stationed overseas. Took about 6hrs to receive the unlock information.

Congrats. You saved the 40 days waiting. My case was different, after i purchased mine on ebay, i found out that the IMEI is blacklisted (outstanding balance), so i had to go to third party services.

Well, that sucks. I'll always buy from Swappa since I bought my LG v10 from there. Also remember, if you're buying a phone from someone, to ask for the IMEI to verify with the carrier that it isn't blacklisted. You probably actually paid the person enough so they can fix themselves.

Well, the issue was solved with 45$ I was in a hurry to buy it because the price was attractive and swappa had much higher prices. Well next time, for sure more investigation must be done before buying.
I dont mean to hijack this thread but it's exactly my problem. I have at&t in Iowa (pretty much no tmobile presence here) bought a brand new g5 off ebay wasnt paying attention to the fact that it was locked to tmobile. I did try a site that charges 30 something bucks to get it unlocked and they emailed be back the next day saying they couldnt do it. I checked the eimi or whatever on swappa, says its clean. I saw somewhere that the best way to get the unlock code is to order a prepaid sim and load some money on it and wait 2 weeks and then request the unlock code? I went to tmobile's website and got halfway through the prepaid sim screens but when i put the eimi number in it comes back with nothing, i am assuming thats because the phone has never been activated anywhere before? Appreciate the help, I dont want to pile more dumb on top of dumb...
I need help unlocking my LG g5. I bought it online through eBay from someone that works at LG.
The phone came sealed, I ordered a unlock code, but I discovered as soon as I turned it on that now I need to unlock through t-mobile device unlock app.
The site I ordered my code said they would change my status on the t-mobile database so I can unlock the device through the app.
I Googled around and that should have worked. But apparently my IMEI is not registered t-mobile.
I bought a prepaid Sim and put it on the phone. It's working at t-mobile but its still not at their database (the IMEI).
What should I do?
Is there any way to force the IMEI to t-mobile database so it can be unlocked through the third party?
Or is there any other way to unlock it.
Please help...

Did you try the permanent lock option on the t-mobile unlock app? What message did you get then?
So far I tried 2 different services and requested unlock code but none of them worked, they simply didn't get back to me with any results.
Can someone suggest one that actually worked for them please and PM me?
Thanks guys.

It says:
Unlock Failed: This mobile device is eligible for unlock. For device unlock eligibility details, please go online or contact Customer Support.
And even if I go online, to T-Mobile IMEI check website, it says my IMEI is not recognized at T-Mobile.
Thats the problem.
Although I'm using it at T-Mobile, and it is a T-Mobile branded phone.
And because it's not at the database, I can't do ANYTHING to try to unlock it through third parties.

Maybe it has been bought on contract and must have been activated first so that IMEI would be registered at T-Mobile.
Mine was blacklisted and i unlocked it. It shouldn't be a big deal for yours.
I would suggest drop T_mobile a visit or call, and check with them what is wrong.
Logically, if the IMEI is not on their database then it shouldn't be carrier locked.
I will drop you a PM for a contact that might help you in this issue.

Wrong my friend. If the phone is on TMO but IMEI is not in theit database that means phone wasn't activated on TMO network, which means you're not gonna be able to unlock it through official unlock app.
I wonder if this phone unlockeble at all without using that unlock app.

Unlock T-mobile branded S8+ bought directly from Samsung

I've contacted T-Mobile directly, and they said that they do not have the ability to do so because I did not purchase the device directly from them, even though it is a T-Mobile branded device. The representative also contacted Samsung with me on the phone, Samsung specifically stated that the device can be unlock, and the carrier does it. Doesn't make any sense to me that they can't unlock it when they have my phone's IMEI in their database, and they can recognize it. To top that off, the device is paid in full, not financed. Anyway, got this escalated to the manual unlock team, but was told there's no guarantees. Will see how that goes.
Have anyone gotten their T-Mobile branded device bought directly from Samsung unlocked? Or anyone got their carrier branded device bought from Samsung unlocked?
I been trying to find a sim I can try to see if mine is unlocked but seems like everyone I know is on TMobile hahaha I bought mine thru Samsung as well paid in full I will try going to a att see if they have a sim I can try
If everything is the same, then the device should be locked. Just tried an ATT sim on my T-Mobile device, and that doesn't work.
Exact situation I went through with AT&T. They also first told me they couldn't unlock it cuz I didn't buy directly from them, however, after a few escalations to support I finally got someone that understood and I had the unlock code before the phone call ended. Just keep trying.
The escalation of my case to the unlock team resulted in receiving an automated email telling me to use the unlock app when I explicitly mentioned that method does not work..... Sigh... The incompetence of these people. Contacting them on twitter now, we'll see the results of that.
In the meantime, what's everyone's experience so far trying to get their carrier branded device unlocked?
Same issues with my s8... Samsung says T-Mobile will should be able to unlock it...and T-Mobile says it is not an eligible phone since not purchased through T-Mobile. Any other suggestions how i can unlock my phone?

Have you been able to get your phone unlocked? I'm in the same situation right now
How in the hell can they not unlock a device that is BRANDED by T-Mobile and PAID OFF with T-Mobile? I would of returned the device (if within the return period) and Bought an Exynos Variant. I have an Exynos S8+ on AT&T here in the US and I haven't had any issues with carrier compatibility.

[Discussion] Let's Brainstorm a SIM Unlock. (Unlocked Sprint Owners Please Help).

I have a few ideas about a possible unlock for the Sprint variant of the Essential Phone.
Summary:
Basically, it revolves around modifying the value of an item in the nv-data partition that contains the sim lock status.
This method is based on:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...int-xt1056-t2825155/post54338871#post54338871
Possible Solution:
1. Getting a backup of the nv-data from a locked Sprint phone and an unlocked Sprint phone,
2. Comparing the items from my locked phone and another locked phone and finding the items that have same value
3. Comparing the items found in step two to the items from the unlocked sprint phone and possibly finding an item that is different.
4. Writing the value of the found item to a locked phone and seeing if it becomes unlocked.
How you can help make this solution a reality:
We need backed up nv-data from at least one locked and one unlocked sprint phone, here is how you can back it up.
1. Open the dialer and input the secret code *#*#3424#*#*
2. On this screen enter 000000 and tap confirm (very great for us that essential left the default msl value).
3. On this screen check the diagnostic mode and close the app.
4. Download and extract the nv-data reader on a PC http://phonegeek.us/NV-items_reader_writer.rar
5. Connect your phone, in device manager, a new Qualcomm device should appear.
6. Run the program, in the top bar: select the com port (it should be shown in device manager), check both of the boxes in the top bar, and click connect.
7. Now in the top bar click read, if the log says "Log message: > SPC is correct. Phone unlocked" you have done everything correctly so far. (The unlocked part has nothing to do with the SIM lock status)
8. Under "Range (Dec):" enter 0 to 07300 and click read (07233 seems to be the last useful value but a little buffer is good)
9. Save the file with any name you like and send me a private message with it.

People have gotten their phone unlocked by paying it off and waiting a few days for it to unlock. Sprint seems to have disabled this method. Another way is staying with sprint for 50 days and then requesting unlock code. One more way is to "social engineer" a sprint rep into unlocking your phone YMMV. EDIT: This method could possibly if it works guarantee an instant and permanent unlock for all carriers worldwide.

Not a hack, no. You could get Sprint service and keep it for 50 days and then request that they unlock the phone. Other than that, you're screwed.

Paying it off and waiting a few days for it to unlock often only results in a domestic unlock, not an international unlock. If you social engineer a Sprint rep, all you're likely to get is a temporary international unlock. Then it'll relock itself in 30 days. Currently, the only way to guarantee a full unlock is to wait 50 days with active Sprint service.

how you get that
Settings, About Phone, OMADM Updates, UICC Unlock.
My PH-1 was bought outright from Sprint, no financing/contract, nothing of that sort. (Not sure if that matters or makes a difference). I never called in or requested an unlock.

Yes you bought your phone outright so I believe Sprint is required to unlock it, this is for people who bought it on a lease and then paid it of, some people on leased phones got them unlocked, some people were able to pay it off and then unlock it through that menu, however it looks like Sprint disabled that method. Since your phone is a Sprint unlocked phone your nv-data would be useful if you are willing to share it. One other thing you should check is whether your phone works with non-American SIM cards.

Sprint will still unlock the phone automatically after payoff. It's just that Sprint will relock it to prevent reselling.
It's actually kind of lame, considering they are required by the FTC/FCC to unlock their devices when they are paid off.

According to Slickdeals Sprint has disabled the auto unlock after payoff the only way to unlock now is to stay with them for 50 days. There have also been many reports on Slickdeals of people's unlocked phones relocking. That is why developing this method is super important and why we need people to send their nv-data because right now it's our best shot at a permanent solution.
How do they relock?
Say when I'm using tmobile, is there a program that runs in the back ground that checks with Sprint via web and relock?

Mine did. It was unlocked for around a month and then Sprint locked it when I was using a different sim card in a foreign country.
The device has not been reported as lost or stolen, associated with fraudulent activity, or otherwise flagged as ineligible to be unlocked
Maybe the devices are being relocked because sprint thinks the activity people are doing ie "paying off the lease on 5 phones the first day then cancelling after 3 days" is fraudulent ???
Sounds like there is a program that has to be run for the phone to sim unlock.
Maybe the program is what's needed for it to stick?
Otherwise once a sprint sim is reinserted it may relock according to the huge slickdeals thread.
My device was unlocked about 36 hours after paying it off. Then a few days later I was locked to Sprint again.
From what I'm reading Sprint can relocked it as long as a Sprint sim in inserted.

Did you have a Sprint sim inserted?
The relock probably happens through the com.redbend.app also known as the Sprint OMA-DM app uninstalling it might fix the issue. However, I don't know for certain and we need an unlocking method anyway can any of you share your nv-data?
Received my phone in 12/15 and paid off the lease the next day, but never got an unlock I think they nerfed the automatic unlock. Has anyone have luck with this method?
whymoo the numbers in your steps in your instructions are off.
Plus, I'm open to help but I'm a total noob at doing something like this. You're going to have to explain things more after the 4th step so it could be as painless and easy and then I definitely do it!

OEM Unlocking grayed out

Purchased from Google unlocked.
Running .30 version.
When I initially received the device I pulled the SIM from my OG pixel 1 and inserted and booted the 3. Set it up (running on AT&T) and used it. This morning I decided to root for theming only to notice it was grayed out. First thought was to factory reset and reboot with no SIM inserted. Did that. Still gray.
Am I missing something new?

When I initially received the device I pulled the SIM from my OG pixel 1 and inserted and booted the 3. Set it up (running on AT&T) and used it. This morning I decided to root for theming only to notice it was grayed out. First thought was to factory reset and reboot with no SIM inserted. Did that. Still gray.
Am I missing something new?

Are you sure you received the google version phone and not the Verizon one? Did you notice if it was grayed out before you inserted your sim?

Wouldn't the fact that it takes my AT&T SIM mean it is the unlocked variant?
To answer though... I did not notice.
UPDATE: Called Google. The tier 1 guy said, "Per our engineering documentation this option is designated as disabled on the pixel 3 line."
I have requested an RMA even though I hope he was wrong and that someone can enlighten me before I send it back.

Sim unlocked yes. But not bootloader unlockable. I'm guessing you have the Verizon variant.

When my RMA is completed how will I specify that I don't want the Verizon variant?
As I'm sure you already know the store offers only three options and I verified that I chose the 'unlocked' option. Anything I can do to get what I need should I decide to reorder?
Also the store says the verizon variant comes with a SIM card which was not included in my packaging.
I'm really steamed at the moment... I do thank you for replying.

Again my friend, I'm just guessing. It could also be possible that from what I've read, the P3's were initially sim locked to Verizon only, even if you ordered the google version. It could be possible that when you installed your at&t sim, it locked the bootloader. Again, I'm just guessing.

Sure... I get that. I have been approved for an advanced RMA. Wasn't trying to seem harsh. The rep that gave me the advanced RMA did say that it SHOULD allow toggle. I'll be sure to attempt bootloader adjustments before inserting a SIM this round.
I don't think the Google version was sim locked to Verizon. That doesn't make sense at all. The device needs to connect to the internet in order for the switch to become active from what I understand. So if you don't put a sim in then you will need to connect to wifi. Something is amiss or we're not getting the full picture. Why would a Google bought Pixel anything not allow bootloader unlock? Even if you put in a Verizon sim it should still be active.

My thoughts exactly. The grayed out switch does say 'connect to the internet or contact your carrier' below the toggle. All while there's an LTE signal indicator on the status bar. I'm perplexed, truly. This isn't my first Android rodeo and I've never encountered this before.
I bought mine through Project Fi. I tried to unlock the boot loader first thing but the OEM unlock was greyed out. I had to activate the phone on the Project Fi Network before OEM unlock became available (I used the eSim). I wonder if they've linked the OEM unlocking switch to the network activation somehow. Has anyone bought a Network unlocked Pixel 3 from the Google Store, stuck a Verizon simcard in it, and then tried to unlock the bootloader?

I unlocked mine with a Verizon Sim in it. No problems at all. I also did the same with 3 different pixel 2's when the pixel 2 was first released. Again, not one problem with any of them. I see a lot of talk about the unlock possibly being tied to the SIM. It isn't. I know first hand.
I bought my 3xl carrier unlocked from Google. I inserted a vzw sim and activated my phone. After all that I tried to oem unlock and it is greyed out. My phone is running build PD1A.180720.31 and as far as I know it is the vzw build. Tried factory reset several times and still greyed out. Also tried sideloading .30 but it didn't work. Any help would be appreciated.
i bought the unlocked pixel 3 from google on launch, i was able to unlock the bootloader and flash images with no issue. I didnt have my verizon sim in it tho
.31 is the verizon variant.
.30 should be the unlocked variant.
I'm on the phone now... For a third time trying to get an RMA issued. Google support is horrific.
Issued me 2 RMA requests that had a link that was already used.
I was on the phone with them this afternoon and they are sending me a new phone. Hopefully it will be the .30

That's the scary thing for me. Mine is .30 and I was able to factory reset today and try a TMO SIM with the same result.
I processed my advance RMA today as well so we'll see.

Interesting. On a side note 2 vzw apps showed up randomly in my app drawer. I was able to uninstall them but they weren't there before. One was messenger and the other I think was My Verizon.

Those got installed when you inserted the VZ SIM.
For those of you getting RMAs best of luck. Their RMA department is a mess, they are not shipping anything. Some of us have RMAs open since day one. There is thread here on it, and a pretty big one on Reddit.

I don't think this is right. I bought the unlocked variant from Verizon & unlocked the bootloader no problem.
Build number .031

Question App says unlocked, phone stays locked

Had a hell of a time speaking with T-Mobile representatives these last couple of days. Everyone has a different opinion on what I need to do to unlock my S22 Ultra. Just today a guy recommended I download the T-Mobile Device Unlock app off the Play store and it said the following:
"Your device is currently permantently unlocked and allowed to be used with any carrier. Restart your device to apply these changes if your device was previously locked." Yet I do that and it remains locked.
Anyone else had this experience? Not sure what I can do short of returning it.

If you're talking about OEM Unlocking, that is completely separate from carrier lock, and there's little the carrier can do about it.
The device is networked locked to T-Mobile.

Are you the original owner?
Has the phone been paid off?
Are you currently running T-Mobile firmware?

No, I'm not. There was apparently someone before me. The phone is paid off and I do believe there isn't any custom firmware on it and I went through a series of updates since getting the phone.
If this indeed is a T-Mobile phone, you shouldn't need the T-Mobile unlock app. Just look around in Settings > Connections & look around for SIM unlock, network unlock or something along those lines (I'm running US unlocked firmware XAA, so, I don't have the unlock in my settings, otherwise, I'd be able to give you the exact terminology).
Anyway, once you've found it, you should be able to check for the SIM Unlock. If it says you're unlocked & you're still having issues, I'd call customer service.

I know that. I've been on the phone with them for over two hours already. I asked them to put in a request to unlock it given the previous owner's contract and filed a complaint with the FCC. The phone SHOULD be eligibile for unlocking but the carrier is just being stubborn.
The "T" in Mobile stands for "Trouble"
