I have replaced the broken screen of my Oneplus 8T (KB2003), where I have used a screen already attached to a new frame including the fingerprint sensor from AliExpress. The delivered screen with frame etc. looked exactly like the original one. This means I actually just had to switch over all parts inside the device. The phone is not rooted (never was) and still uses the stock recovery.
Now, everything works, except the fingerprint sensor. In Android 13 (Oxygen OS 13) the icon of the fingerprint appears on the screen, but the fingerprint is neither recognized nor there is a vibration. I already tried the following things:
delete all pins and fingerprints and reboot in Android 13
delete all pins and fingerprints in safe mode and reboot in Android 13
wipe all data (in the stock recovery)
factory reset
downgrade to Android 11 (via local install of the zip), here an error appears if I try to register a new fingerprint: "Error during fingerprint registration, please try again"
delete all pins and fingerprints and reboot in Android 11
delete all pins and fingerprints in safe mode and reboot in Android 11
Now the interesting part comes: If I boot the device with the old fingerprint sensor connected (Android 11 or 13), and switch to the new one while the phone is running, everything works. This means I can use the fingerprint of the new screen, register new fingers etc. with the new sensor. Once I reboot the phone, it does not work any longer.
Does anyone have an idea what I could try to be able to use the new fingerprint sensor even after a reboot? Thank you!

I suppose it's done for safety measures.
It seems there is some fingerprint sensor check validity is happening on boot.
If it's recognized as factory one, it works, if not it doesn't.
In your case you were just hotswapping sensors on running android, so the check doesn't detect it, but on boot, it detects non original one.
That would be a pity.
Yesterday I have removed the original fingerprint sensor from the broken display. I did some pictures:

Interestingly, also the small black part located between the actual sensor and the silver part at the cable (first picture) has a small transparent window in the screen.
Now I am considering removing my new screen from the repaired phone and try to exchange the fingerprint sensor. Actually, I wanted to avoid this and bought the display already attached to a (new) frame. At least it would be interesting whether there is an obvious difference between both sensors.

Thanks for information.
Keep us updated on this case.
I would use the msm tool as this would restore to original factory setting and write new partition data according to your hardware. This may register the new fingerprint sensor as authentic and would be calibrated during first boot. It's worth a try, I doubt it would work any other way. You can find msm tools all over xda! Good luck getting it to work!

Hi there,
Since a few days, I'm having troubles using my front camera. It all started after upgrading to 5.1.1 (and using SnapChat afterwards), but now I can't get rid of it.
When I switch to the front camera (in SnapChat, or in the standard camera app), the camera might switch to front camera and show the images for a few seconds, or it might not switch at all. After that, the screen gets frozen. Then, it depends: the screen just stays frozen, or turns green/blue/glitched, or I get a message that my camera can't be found.
This also happens in safe mode, with or without clearing cache & data, and also happens after a full reset, even after downgrading to 5.0.1 again.
What is strange, is that sometimes my camera app opens with front-face camera enabled, and then everything works fine. However, when I switch to my back camera (which always functions correctly) and then back to the front-face camera, then it's the same all over again.
I have googeled a lot, yet found no threads that exactly describe my situation. Most threads suggest trying the camera in safe mode and presume that it works in safe mode. Mine doesn't.
Does this sound like I need to return it (I still have waranty), or is it a software bug nonetheless?

Try to uninstall ANY apps that make use of the camera (except Google Camera/AOSP camera) and disable Trusted face on Smart Lock if you're using it.
Quick update: it was a hardware failure. A friend of mine had a quick look at my nexus 5, opened it up (he's in the repair business) and played a bit with the connector of the front camera, and everything works fine now.
So for those who are reading this: if you're like me, and are still having problems even in safe mode and after a factory reset, then a hardware failure might be the problem.
To beekay201: still thanks a lot for the replies, much appreciated!
Hello there,
Using xiaomi a1, I have come to appreciate this useful option which is the screen unlock using fingerprint without Pin (or pattern). Just touch the sensor and screen is unlocked. Can't get it easier.
So, following are the custom Roms that have this feature enabled :
Resurrection Remix
Lineage Extended
Firehound
There is a magisk module for stock users that can find in the A1 app section too.
I haven't tried all the Roms, so please write them here to make the list complete.
Thank you
Don't know what you talking about but with completely stock you don't need to enter PIN while using fingerprint sensor. Well, you need, but only first time after turning on the device. After that it always unlocks without entering PIN. For pattern I don't know, never tried.
What the hell are you talking about? Stock firmware allows you to unlock simple by fingerprint (touch the sensor with screen on or off and it unlocks). You just need a pin or pattern during the setup or in case of fingerprint hardware failure.
This option he is talking about is for people who do not want to use PIN / Pattern, the digital printing only works if you put a password and in case there is no password, it works to turn on the screen.

But if you dont set a pin/pattern for "extra security", the day that fingerprint sensor breaks (or fails do recognize you fingers) you cant unlock your phone at all... Doesnt make sense..
Guys relax.
Life is beautiful. I am talking about custom Roms.
I haven't used stock rom, since the first day of using this phone, and I didn't remember that you could unlock with fingerprint only after screen locking the device. So, I might have made a confusion about stock rom. My bad.

My god, this function is for those who DO NOT want to use PASSWORD, it does not lock the phone if it fails, it only adds the function of turning the screen on for those who DO NOT want a password.
Ok, I am explain better. There are 2 (or 3) types of lock as the picture below explains. When you do a device admin lock via several lock screens applications (found on Google play) you can't unlock via Fingerprint only. You need the pin or the pattern after.
The rom mentioned by me have this option included. I am surprised that none is giving feedback, so far.
Any other Roms that do have this "Unlock with fingerprint without pattern" as an option?

CrDroid does this too.
Edit. Sorry, I read your second explanation and CrDroid does it but paired with pattern. It only asks once after rebooting the device, which is nice, in my opinion.

Then CrDroid doesn't have this option, I am afraid.
This is the option that I would like all of us share our comments on it.
Hi all, new member here, so apologies for any mistakes I make.
A friend of mine has passed on to me his Nexus 5 (2013), stating that there were a number of issues he was having with it. After using the device myself for a couple days I can confirm that the following issues are present:
- The screen will sporadically freeze and become unresponsive to any touch input, and the only way to solve this is to lock the device and unlock it again. The time between instances of this is random.
- The screen will occasionally cut to black, but the display is still active (i.e. you can only see the backlight). This happens for a number of seconds before returning to normal on it's own.
- The camera is completely unresponsive/broken (See picture 1 below). Possible loose connection?
- The WiFi is stuck on 'turning WiFi on' in the settings, and stuck at searching for networks in the notification bar(See pictures 2 & 3 below).
The device was dropped at some point in the past, but the damage is typical (See picture 4 below) and I see no immediate reason why this damage should cause these issues in particular, but I'm by no means an expert, hence why I'm here. =) The device has only been dropped one time, and has not suffered any other damage, including water damage.
My first instinct was to boot into recovery mode (where it should be noted that the freezing and display issues I mentioned above didn't occur, leading me to believe it is more of a software issue?) and clear the cache partition, which did not solve the issue, and neither did a full factory reset.
So, with all that being said, what would you guys suggest? Should I try flashing the factory image to see if that works? Rooting? Flashing a custom ROM? Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
If you require any additional information let me know and I'll happily oblige.
Thanks in advance guys!

It could be the motherboard or screen. You won't know for sure until you replace one or the other.
The wifi chips do fail on the Nexus 5. I a motherboard that also tries to turn on wifi but turns itself off after a few minutes.

My first thought was that it was a hardware issue to begin with, but due to the sporadic nature of the issues (excluding the camera obviously), and the fact that it didn't happen whilst in the recovery menu, I'm more inclined to believe it to be a software issue? I could be wrong of course, I'm just wondering if it's worth flashing the factory image on to see if that solves the issue?
You may as well flash the stock image and see what happens.
The lines showing on the screen does not look like a software issue to me.

Those lines are what appear when I open the camera, they're not there otherwise. THAT is almost definitely a hardware issue, granted.
I have a Nexus 5 that has the wifi issue. I flashed a bunch of different Android versions (like Android 7 and 6.0) which none have worked. At one point I opened my Nexus 5 and left it like that for about a month, then afterwards I assembled it back together and the wifi worked for a little bit and then went back to its broken state. I've concluded that it is a hardware issue since data was working fine and was the only way I could get internet on my phone.

Hmm. I have to be be honest after looking online it appears that wifi failure is a somewhat common issue on the Nexus 5 devices. It has to be a hardware based problem it would seem.
Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate your input. =)
Has anyone experienced problems with the fingerprint sensor where it stops working randomly? Rebooting the phone fixes. Running the finger print diagnostics shows no issues. I'm running the latest miui, it's been happening over the last month or two.
Nope. No issues here. Also on the latest global rom 8.9.20

Goodix FP
It happened to me the last week, i ordered a new fingerprint sensor, but i believe is a software issue since aida64 detects it however when i press 4 times the kernel version it jumps to CIT you'll need to go to the #30 and see if the Goodix FP works with the test.
For me it does not come up, it's just showing empty, hope i get some luck with this without the need of disassemble the back of my phone in order to change it, since it just stopped working suddenly.
I'll proceed on unlocking the phone and check what else needs to be done, while i get the replacement.

Most likely is a hardware failure. I have installed so far Revolution Remix, MIUI 10 and Pixel Experience and fingerprint scanner does not work with any of those.
Have ordered a new fingerprint sensor so will report back with an update once I replace it. Almost certain it's a hardware issue.
Update: Successfully replaced my Mix 2S fingerprint sensor today, took about 30 mins as I was quite careful.
I had to heat up the bottom third of the back of the phone to 80 degrees Celsius (back is glued on), did that with a heatgun. Then I used a tool to wedge apart the back of the phone from the rest, had to unscrew a section, remove the fingerprint sensor, replaced the sensor, re-screwed the section back in place, put the rear cover back on the phone. Turned the phone back on and voilla, new fingerprint sensor working beautifully. I had to remove the existing fingerprint profile that was there and create a new one, but working rock solid now.
The sensor is very cheap ~$5 USD, with cheap international shipping. I'd recommend everyone try this who is having issues with the finger print scanner if resetting the phone didn't help. Get it from here:
https://www.witrigs.com/oem-fingerprint-scanner-flex-replacement-for-xiaomi-mi-mix-2s-black
Get something like this for the job:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/20-in-1-Mo...h=item1c82e9f38a:g:--wAAOSwE0JY-Oal:rk:1:pf:0
Same issue now with me. Already replaced the sensor. No improvement. So you have the goodix or the fpc sensor? You can see at the Cit (4 times Kernel touching)
It is a hardware problem. In fact, a manufacturing process failute. The flat cable was bended (probably inattention in the assembly line), so it broke. So all of you with the problem, it's a matter of time it completely stop working.
I need 5-10 times to open my phone.
Now I have my primary thumbprint in 4 slots. My phone is up to date.
I spend more then 6 hours to try to solve the issue. But nothing help.
I use a screen protector Link and I need it. But I had also issue without screen protector.

That is not normal, the fingerprint is very accurate on my phone, my old s10+ had an horrible fingerpring sensor...
The fingerprint sensor seems to work well in my S21+, but sometimes, after I authenticate with my fingerprint, I get a black screen with a white round icon with a lock in the button of the screen. It doesn't happen all the time, but I've been unable to identify the condition that causes it to come up. Does anyone else get this secondary black screen or knows the reason for this annoying secondary screen?
Some tips I can give are:
1.- Delete all fingerprints and add them with the scren protector, pressure before the scren protector is different.
2.- Enable enhanced touch sensitivity.
Keep in mind that under display fingerprint readers are not really designed to work perfectly with screen protectors. I had that issue with the Note 20 ultra and I've read about the same issue with the s21 ultra and s21 plus. Im using the scren protector that came from factory (I know it doesnt really protect) but fingerprint sensor is blazing fast.

I just realized that this secondary screen only pops up after I use fingerprint sensor from the AOD screen. This secondary screen doesn't show when I use the fingerprint sensor from the Lock screen. Why have the ability to use the fingerprint sensor from the AOD screen if it's just going to take you to this alternative black lock screen?

Maybe a bug...This secondary lock screen only comes up when I set "Show icon when screen is off" to (On Always On Display) under Fingerprint settings. If I change this setting to (Tap to show) the secondary screen doesn't pop up. Not a show stopper, but a little annoying as I have to tap the screen to see the fingerprint icon. Anyone else getting this secondary screen after using the fingerprint sensor from the AOD?
