Fingerprint unlock (screen) without pin. List of Roms with this option - Xiaomi Mi A1 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello there,
Using xiaomi a1, I have come to appreciate this useful option which is the screen unlock using fingerprint without Pin (or pattern). Just touch the sensor and screen is unlocked. Can't get it easier.
So, following are the custom Roms that have this feature enabled :
Resurrection Remix
Lineage Extended
Firehound
There is a magisk module for stock users that can find in the A1 app section too.
I haven't tried all the Roms, so please write them here to make the list complete.
Thank you

Don't know what you talking about but with completely stock you don't need to enter PIN while using fingerprint sensor. Well, you need, but only first time after turning on the device. After that it always unlocks without entering PIN. For pattern I don't know, never tried.

What the hell are you talking about? Stock firmware allows you to unlock simple by fingerprint (touch the sensor with screen on or off and it unlocks). You just need a pin or pattern during the setup or in case of fingerprint hardware failure.

This option he is talking about is for people who do not want to use PIN / Pattern, the digital printing only works if you put a password and in case there is no password, it works to turn on the screen.

But if you dont set a pin/pattern for "extra security", the day that fingerprint sensor breaks (or fails do recognize you fingers) you cant unlock your phone at all... Doesnt make sense..

Guys relax.
Life is beautiful. I am talking about custom Roms.
I haven't used stock rom, since the first day of using this phone, and I didn't remember that you could unlock with fingerprint only after screen locking the device. So, I might have made a confusion about stock rom. My bad.

My god, this function is for those who DO NOT want to use PASSWORD, it does not lock the phone if it fails, it only adds the function of turning the screen on for those who DO NOT want a password.

Ok, I am explain better. There are 2 (or 3) types of lock as the picture below explains. When you do a device admin lock via several lock screens applications (found on Google play) you can't unlock via Fingerprint only. You need the pin or the pattern after.
The rom mentioned by me have this option included. I am surprised that none is giving feedback, so far.
Any other Roms that do have this "Unlock with fingerprint without pattern" as an option?

CrDroid does this too.
Edit. Sorry, I read your second explanation and CrDroid does it but paired with pattern. It only asks once after rebooting the device, which is nice, in my opinion.

Then CrDroid doesn't have this option, I am afraid.

This is the option that I would like all of us share our comments on it.

Idea for an Applocker (if it doesn't exist yet)

Hi,
I was hunting for an applocker a while ago, and I had some ideas for a couple of features.
1) When accessing the locked app, it should show an error message like "Access Denied : File checksum failed" or something with a lot of error codes to confuse a non-techie person instead of straight up asking for a password. (custom error messages if possible)
2a)Now to unlock that app, you have to go into the dialer and type your chosen unlock code. Use a special symbol to unlock only for 5 minutes, or unlock completely until manual re-locking.
2b) Ability to set a button and screen password combination. Eg/- To unlock gallery, tap the right corner of the screen twice, then press the volume up button 3 times. Something along these lines.
3)Hides itself from the Apps section in Settings, app drawer and recent apps. Only way to uninstall is from the app itself (I think this is a common feature.)
4) Essentially an inconspicuous applocker. - Asks for password but looks like an error message. I think this could be nice and slick..
I'm not knowledgeable enough to build such an app myself....
What do you guys think? If such an app already exists, please link me to it.
Thanks.

Nice thinking.
Though point one has already been implemented by most app locks.

So has been point two.
Point three is common like you said.
And point four is just the error feature which has already been done.
Keep thinking though.
Hi, thanks for your reply!
Glad to see someone has done this!
And -
Could you tell me what app has the error message feature?
Is it the app in the second screenshot?
I want something which not only locks gallery but also SMS and Whatsapp. Can those apps do this?
EDIT: The second screenshot looks like it uses the passcode to open the app locker itself (if I'm not mistaken). I meant unlocking a locked app.
All the features you talked about are scattered. All of them are not present in one app.
But the best lock I would say is Vault.
It has the dialer feature, you can even put a fake vault which is completely empty incase someone forces you to open it. Then it also has a feature which can help u lock conversations both from the messaging service and even Facebook conversations. Hope it helps.

[RANT] Google's new ADM problem, password changing blocked.

The Android Device Manager can be used to track, erase, and make a device ring.
Before it could also be used to change a password remotely, apparently now that feature can only be used to add a lock screen to a device that doesn't have one already. This is a huge problem.
The most obvious example of where the remote password changing would be used is theft. What if a thief knew your phone's password? If we can't change the password remotely anymore then we're screwed there. That thief has access to everything including the device's administrative apps. The thief could easily go into the settings and disable the ADM. Therefore even if we did try to get on ADM and erase the phone we can't because ADM is disabled!
Is this a problem only I am having? Does anyone else find this a problem? What are your perspectives on this?
In case you don't know what I'm talking about, this is what happens when you try to set a new password now:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
You can allow google to do this by going to Google Settings->security->Allow remote lock and erase. When you turn this on, you can change your password remotely (see screenshot below).
But I do agree with you. ADM should be harder to disable (anyone past lockscreen or anyone you lent your phone to can disable it). My solution is that you use applock to prevent the thief to get in to settings (although this can be bypassed). However, in my own experience, 95% of thieves are not that smart.
Also, under no circumstances should you let your phone password leak. Use a fingerprint scanner (or heck, an iris scanner) if you need to.
p.s. allowing ADM to remotely change passcode allows Google, the FBI, or someone with your Google login to access your phone
Everything in this thread is on its head. Google ADM is a huge security hole that makes your device vulnerable to the outside world. Google is trying to patch remote exploits, such as stagefright, but ADM is an open door and invitation to steal. Google have realized that and made the hole somewhat smaller. ADM should be permanently disabled, which is the first step in securing your device.
In addition, 99% of thieves don't care about your data, but rather want the device. The first thing they do is wipe the device via bootloader or, if your bootloader is locked, by clean flashing stock firmware.
The reason this is blocked is because the remote lock feature also changes your lockscreen code (and therefore device encryption key). It means a device that is otherwise locked can be accessed via various kinds of social engineering attacks.
Imagine a corporate device is stolen. The thief gets a hold of it, and is able to social engineer you (see https://www.macobserver.com/news/stolen-iphone-watch-identity-theft-phishing-schemes/) into changing the password on it. Or even just get your Google login password and change the device password from there. They now have access to the device.
Removing this feature is doing what should really have been done long ago. If the thief knows your lock password, then you have bigger problems. They could have prevented you from changing the password. They could turn it off (now knowing the password), and turn it on with no WiFi signal and cell signal (i.e. remove the SIM). They could even just drop it in their Faraday bag. If a thief has gone to the effort to know your device password, they're targeting you, and should know to bring a Faraday bag with them.
Tl;dr In the long run it is not making you any less secure, unless you had your lock PIN as "1234" or similar. A thief caring to know your password will take the device offline immediately, stopping this from working.
You guys should check out Samsung's find my mobile, can do anything remotely plus change codes.
I also hear that the connection between the device and the Samsung servers are unencrypted...

It will not change your code, It might push a new code on top of your pattern lock, but once you are past the new code you'll still need to enter your pattern.

Quick Toggles / Find My Phone

I want to secure my phone as much as possible so i turned on the "find my phone" feature to locate your phone when stolen.
But the problem i found with this is that you can turn off the basic things like mobile data or airplane mode from the lockscreen without unlocking the phone.
So when someone steals your phone while its locked with a fingerprint they can still turn on airplane mode or turn off the mobile data so its impossible to track the phone.
While when i try to turn off wifi from the lockscreen it ask me to unlock it first, same goes for most other quick toggles so thats why i find this pretty weird.
So my question is, are there more people with this problem or does it work perfectly for you?
I'm running the G930FXXU1BPHB software with the august 1 security patch and thought maybe its a software thing so im hoping someone else can check if they got the same problem as me.
Haven't tried this setting yet, but have a look at:

Is it me or does this setting keep changing to "do not require" by itself for anyone else? I know i've changed it to require pin a few times already.

Yes i have that turned on but thats only for a secure boot and has nothing to do with the toggles. But i posted this on reddit also and it seems that its been fixed in the newer security patches because im still on that 1st of august patch will people with the september patch dont have this bug.

So even with that secure boot enabled, without the PIN you can still access the toggles?
Sounded to me as if it asked for the PIN before booting the OS, but as I say I haven't tried it

Well the secure boot is just to protect the device from turn on. But im talking when you have your phone already on annd have the lockscreen protected with fingerprint or anything really. But when the phone is locked, i can still turn off mobile data without it asking me to unlock the phone's lockscreen. When i want to turn off wifi or bluetooth or anything else rather then flashlight it asks me to unlock the screen first in order to turn it on or off. So again, when the phone gets stolen, the thief can turn off mobile data and them im inable to locate the device with the find my phone.,

I see what you mean, if you lose the phone while powered on
Only workaround I can see until a fix is sent out, is turn off your phone while you are outside with it, turn on occasionally to receive texts etc
Complain to Samsung every week until it is fixed

Well after some diggin i see that problem many have this problem and some even reported it to google in 2014 but guess without any luck. Funny that they call this a smart phone while things like this should be fixed years ago.

Try this, worked for me fixing SkyGo with a similar error, I think it is the security app blocking too much.....
On my Xiaomi Fold 2, stock China rom, Android 13, MIUI 14. No unlocked bootloader (no need to unlock it at all). You will need to create a MIUI account first, easy enough on the phone or computer.
Settings > Apps > Mi Protect (which should be turned off by default) > Three dots top right > Click Chinese text (third one down out of three menu options) to turn off that setting. You will need to log in to MIUI account here with the password to achieve this. This option must be switched off.
After a clean install, whatever that particular Chinese text option is, it is always on by default. It's some kind of security setting that blocks SkyGo from working, causing the external output blocked message.
There may be other phones that have similar security measures that also block the SkyGo app doing whatever it needs to do to function correctly.
Cheers!
