Quick Toggles / Find My Phone - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I want to secure my phone as much as possible so i turned on the "find my phone" feature to locate your phone when stolen.
But the problem i found with this is that you can turn off the basic things like mobile data or airplane mode from the lockscreen without unlocking the phone.
So when someone steals your phone while its locked with a fingerprint they can still turn on airplane mode or turn off the mobile data so its impossible to track the phone.
While when i try to turn off wifi from the lockscreen it ask me to unlock it first, same goes for most other quick toggles so thats why i find this pretty weird.
So my question is, are there more people with this problem or does it work perfectly for you?
I'm running the G930FXXU1BPHB software with the august 1 security patch and thought maybe its a software thing so im hoping someone else can check if they got the same problem as me.

Haven't tried this setting yet, but have a look at:

Is it me or does this setting keep changing to "do not require" by itself for anyone else? I know i've changed it to require pin a few times already.

Yes i have that turned on but thats only for a secure boot and has nothing to do with the toggles. But i posted this on reddit also and it seems that its been fixed in the newer security patches because im still on that 1st of august patch will people with the september patch dont have this bug.

So even with that secure boot enabled, without the PIN you can still access the toggles?
Sounded to me as if it asked for the PIN before booting the OS, but as I say I haven't tried it

Well the secure boot is just to protect the device from turn on. But im talking when you have your phone already on annd have the lockscreen protected with fingerprint or anything really. But when the phone is locked, i can still turn off mobile data without it asking me to unlock the phone's lockscreen. When i want to turn off wifi or bluetooth or anything else rather then flashlight it asks me to unlock the screen first in order to turn it on or off. So again, when the phone gets stolen, the thief can turn off mobile data and them im inable to locate the device with the find my phone.,

I see what you mean, if you lose the phone while powered on
Only workaround I can see until a fix is sent out, is turn off your phone while you are outside with it, turn on occasionally to receive texts etc
Complain to Samsung every week until it is fixed

Well after some diggin i see that problem many have this problem and some even reported it to google in 2014 but guess without any luck. Funny that they call this a smart phone while things like this should be fixed years ago.

WiFi drop on 5.1?

It's a couple of times i unlock my phone and i notice the wifi has disconnected, then it riconnects itself. It also happened at first flash of 5.1, right after the setup wizard.
Any known WiFi drops bugs on 5.1?
I am using Cataclysm + EX.
I am not able to provide any adb logcat because it doesn't seem to happen all the times, sorry.
It's becoming a week known issue.
Seems to be a fault in the Wi-Fi settings where the phone is not keeping the Wi-Fi on when the phone sleeps (even though it's set to do that).
I would go back to an older version (5.0.1) until these retards rectify.
I'm having the same problem.
Anyone got a solution yet?
Bump.
The real issue (at least for me) is that when the phone sleeps and the wifi drops, it enables data network, and I have not unlimited data plan...
How is possible nobody is talking about that wifi behavior ?!
Happened once or twice but that's it.
Someone on G+ that had our same issue said he turned off automatic wifi freq (wifi > advanced) and the drop never happened again.. yet.
That's not a proper fix but better than nothing.

I think the solution is "use vibrate mode on". Get your device to vibrate mod and test it.

Do you care to explain why that would help? And what exactly do you want us to do? I'm not trying to sound like a d**k, just not sure what you're saying
I usually use the phone in vibrate mode, but today I brought the device to the audio mode and Wi-Fi started to disable when i turn off screen.

Network Connection Failed Error - Note 8

Hey everyone, i have been having this annoying error/pop-up/notification that has been bothering me since i got the Note 8. Everytime i turn on the screen to unlock it, i get the "Network connection failed" message.
Now, this happens, when i have cell signal at full bars, LTE or Wi-Fi and at all different locations. I tried resetting the phone, adding the apps without any sort of backup, deleting apps, switching my carriers APN, I tried replacing the phone but it always comes back.
I tried contacting Samsung but they are clueless as to what i am taking about.
Does anyone have any suggestions into how i could proceed to fix this, or is anyone aware of what the problem is?
Who is your carrier?

Contact your carrier. This has nothing to do with Samsung.

Same issue
I have this same issue - annoying but no negative affects...
Verizon is my carrier - I am not so sure this is a carrier issue. In fact, not sure how someone with so little information can definitively say it is a carrier issue...More will report this issue too!
I have the same issue. Verizon
I believe this has something to do with the aggressiveness of power management sleeping apps...see if you still get the error after switching mobile data always on in developers options...I had to switch some of apps off in power saving mode as well because of the aggressiveness...it could be something else though...just an idea
Same problem here I have a Qualcomm carrier free note 8 using it on T-Mobile. It's driving me crazy
Note 8 - T-Mobile
I have just recently encountered this error.
Drives me crazy as well.
This feels like an application issue. I am obviously not certain. Going to do some digging.
If I find a solution, I will report it here.
I think it has to do with download booster.
Same Issue 11-9-17
Has anyone found a solution for this? I'm also having this issue as of 11-9-17. Have tried enabling/disabling download booster, enabling/disabling mobile data always on and have tried a few network resets with Verizon Tech Coach.
I got all the way up to Tier 2 and every person I spoke to agrees this is a weird issue they haven't seen before. Mine seems to come and go. Sometimes I can get hit with the pop-up every time I unlock, other times it'll behave fine for hours then start up again for a little bit then stop. Thankfully there is no impact to operation, but still annoying.
Anyone figure this out...it is driving me crazy.
this is a combination of power saving and the "show nearby locations" in the phone app being active.
can turn off either and issue should disappear.
I have this happening on my s8. Haven't figured out which app/service is causing it but I killed a bunch and the error went away. It's likely one of the hundred background Samsung services. I'll try to narrow it down.
same for me

I also have Verizon. It used to happen on my Nexus 6P and now Pixel 2. If I ever figure out which app, I'll let you know.
Mine randomly stopped about 2 weeks ago. I know there have been a couple updates since my post so I'm not 100% sure if those fixed or if it was something else. Still a mystery as far as I'm concerned.

This seemed to work but just now saw the error again when I unlocked my phone. I turned "show nearby locations" in the phone app back on, will look into power save options next.
I've had this problem for probably close to a year and I'm really getting tired of it, even though it's just a nuisance.
I went into settings<connections<more connection settings<turned off nearby device scanning and then reset network connections which got rid of the notification on the bottom of the screen. I'm sure it'll keep popping up but for now that's what worked for me
Is there a solution for this yet? Is there any way to disable the message? Every time I change from WiFi to Mobile or vice-versa, I have to deal with this for the next 10 min or so. I have tried all the fixes mentioned here.
Solution
Install the app Toast Service from the Playstore. This will run in the background and show you which app is causing the problem. Mine was Hikvision. As soon as the error arrives you will see under notifications when you pull down from the top which app is causing the message. Hope this helps all.

General OneUI 4.1 march broke accessibility

I use an accessibility app from here that allows long press volume up + down to activate and deactivate flashlight. Worked fine even screen off no aod on OneUI 4.0 Feb but after updating to 4.1 it barely works and only with screen on.
So, I decided to test other stuff and yeah it completely broke accessibility.
The touch and hold delay setting does nothing, it always takes like 2-3 seconds for anything to activate even when set to very short 0.3s, no longer works screen off at all.. GG Samsung..
Lol, my one N10+ is still happily running on Pie.
Upgrades and updates can and do break things.
It's a Samsung tradition... Samsung will eventually patch it.
Try clearing the system cache as that may correct it.

Clearing cache didn't help but thanks for the tip. And thanks Samsung for not allowing us to access recovery without the usb-c plugged in.
It doesn't work on aod either. Only when fully waking the device. I wonder if this is intended behavior or just a huge bug.
Can anyone else on a S21/+/Ultra with march 4.1 test accessibility shortcuts on screen off state?

Your welcome.
Try in safe mode to rule out a 3rd party app interference.
Try clearing the data in the accessibility apk.
Turn off Developer options temporarily.
Play with it, there's probably a fix or work around.

Did that, no difference. I did figure out what Samsung did actually.
They changed it so that long press volume up + down is 3 seconds and ignores the long press delay setting completely. And it also no longer works screen off while it used to work fine.
They also changed auto rotate sensitivity which makes it rotate with the slightest motion which is annoying as hell when reading something I'm bed for example as it constantly rotates..
Rolling back to Feb 4.0...
Do you have com.samsung.SMT disabled or removed?

This is one reason why I almost never upgrade or update. I don't like rude surprises.
Still running on Android 9 and 10; if it runs well I leave it be.
Funny what you say about the display flipping too easy; I get tired of waiting for it to transition.
They should have user settings for that by now.
Wonder if there's a 3rd party app to dial that in?

I have been seeing this yellow exclamation mark for a few weeks now. Sometimes it goes away, but comes back after some time.
I have no problems in getting app updates, even when the exclamation mark is there.
Does anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it?
Go to the store settings and turn off notifications about available updates. If you previously turned off stock notification for the Store, turn it back on and then go to the store settings and set what you want.

Notifications are all ON both in system settings as well as within the app.
I tried turning them OFF and then back ON, but the exclamation mark is still present.
Could it be that there is some app which has an update available, but Play Store is unable to show it?
Well, you're supposed to turn off app update notifications in the Google Store, not turn them on.

I have turned them OFF from within Google Play Store app (which also automatically turned them off in system settings). The exclamation mark is now gone (although it didn't go away immediately when I turned them off).
I'll keep an eye and let you know if it comes back.
That said, why does it happen? I don't see any such error on my other phone where everything is ON.

Because all devices are not equal and do not have exactly the same operating systems, features, settings or functions. Just because "this" device does/doesn't do a certain thing or have a certain thing, does not mean "that" device does/doesn't do it or have it.

You solved it didn't you? It went away didn't it? It stands to reason that since the changes that you made removed it, the things you changed would seem to have been the solution, even though it didn't go away immediately after those changes. The delay was probably a result of the notification icon staying until the next time the update check process ran in the background, it still scans for updates in the background, it just tell you you if it finds anything anymore.
It must what has already been told to you, it is part of the notification process to let you know you have available updates. Turning of all(more than one setting) update notifications should solve this, i.e. turn of update notifications in PlayStore and turn off update notifications in settings, including turning off system/system app updates and any other similar update notifications, you may have to check in different places and disable more than 1 or 2 settings.

I think so too. There is some app that isn't updating, and Google Play Store is unable to show which app that is.

Try this, worked for me fixing SkyGo with a similar error, I think it is the security app blocking too much.....
On my Xiaomi Fold 2, stock China rom, Android 13, MIUI 14. No unlocked bootloader (no need to unlock it at all). You will need to create a MIUI account first, easy enough on the phone or computer.
Settings > Apps > Mi Protect (which should be turned off by default) > Three dots top right > Click Chinese text (third one down out of three menu options) to turn off that setting. You will need to log in to MIUI account here with the password to achieve this. This option must be switched off.
After a clean install, whatever that particular Chinese text option is, it is always on by default. It's some kind of security setting that blocks SkyGo from working, causing the external output blocked message.
There may be other phones that have similar security measures that also block the SkyGo app doing whatever it needs to do to function correctly.
Cheers!
