Android Newbie Questions - Looking to free my device from seller lock down. - General Questions and Answers

Hello everyone,
I am new to android OS. I found this forum after an exhausting attempt at accessing what appears to be a disabled feature
(Settings > Accessibility Menu.) in the image I am running.
The following is what I can see about this device in Settings > About this machine:
20220803.223259
System Version: 22.08.03.1027.Z-JM3-S.V5.5.9
RAM: 4GB
ROM: 64GB
Android Version: Android 11
Since I am missing the above feature I began down a rabbit hole attempting other access options such as access to the devices filesystem and or remote capabilities such as SSH, and or VNC which have all ended in additional applications installed with nothing gained.
Examples are:
Installing PlayStore: Android Accessibility Suite
Does nothing when attempting to launch.
Installing PlayStore: SSH-Server
Upon configuring the server settings an informationsl message pops stating "Your device does not support the ARM library which is required to access the shell of your device. Out apologies, for help please contact us at [email protected]. You can however still setup an SFTP or SCP server using this SSH server" Proceeding and connecting leads to limited access of the devices disk.
Installing PlayStore: droidVNC-NG
droidVNC-NG > Permissions Dashboard > Input: Denied
droidVNC-NG > Permissions Dashboard > File Access: Denied
Installing and running KingRoot just spins at 01% Preparing indefinitely
Installed PlayStore: ES FIle Explorer
Tried to root with topjohnwu\Magisk but it's looking for a Patch file in .img or .tar format which I cannot locate a boot.img (or init_boot.img) or recovery.img file when searching through ES File Explorer.
Install: N/A
Zygisk: No
Ramdisk: Yes
Nothing much under the native Settings menu
Hoping for some ideas to gain control of this device so I may expand its current capability.
Any additional info that I may need to provide if anyone is able assist me?
I am a man of my word and will transfer $$ to you for your successful assistance.
Thank you

Was able to pull some additional info hoping it will help.

Accessibility Menu cannot enabled no matter what you're trying. it's not done by editing system file, one have to compile whole ROM from source code.
you can however grant permissions from cmd line instead.
missing accessibility menu (help)
So i bought an android tv and when i went in toDevice preferences, i couldn't find accessibility menu anywhere. I searched it in all the menus in settings. i updated all apps and cleared data of apps and restarted the tv several times. I even...

Rooting the rko3066/rockchip 3066 device

I'm a newbie to Android, but I fumbled around with a rooting tool and found a method that works to root two flavours of rko3066, rockchip 3066 devices. As it only roots the device, I see no reason why it should not root any android device, as long as the correct device drivers are used.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
As always with any routine that flashes the eprom of any

for any damage that following these instructions may cause
to your phone, tablet, pc or device.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Rooting u30gt-h
On tablet
1.In U30gt-h Settings->Display open sleep setting.
2.Set sleep to at least ten minutes.
3.In U30gt-h Settings->storage->click on Three dots in upper
right of Settings window title field
4 Select USB computer connection Dropdown menu .
5. Select "Mass Storage" check box
6. <-- backout of storage settings
7. Browse down in Settings and select Security
8.In Security Settings, Select Unknown sources, to give the
Android device permission to install software from sources
not specifically sanctioned by Google and the Android
Consortium. This ensures that the Root utility,
Tp-Sparky-Root.bat will have the necessary access rights to
root the u30gt. If you have any qualms about unsanctioned
files on your tablet or device, you will want to uncheck
this selection after the rooting process is complete.
Whether any of the rooted utilities and programs you will
want to use are sanctioned, is anybody's guess. As always,
be careful when Dling or intalling Any software. I trust
everyone has and uses anti-virus software on all your
devices.
8.scroll down in settings and select {} Developer
Options, if not there, go to (i)about tablet and touch and
hold the Build field and it will bring up developer Options
in the left hand main menu.
9. In Developer Options, select USB debugging.
10. Close settings, and any other open apps.
11. Goto U30gt main android desktop, to ensure good clean
reboots.
12. Using a Known good micro USB to std USB cable,
connect U30gt tablet to PC, you'll get a "connecting to usb"
in notifications area in Android, and a usb icon in the
notification area. You Do Not want to select "Connect to Pc
to Transfer Files", in the notification menu, just plug in the
cable and let it be.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
On PC
1. Search in a web browser for RKBatchTool_u30.zip, the 1.5
version, DL and unzip in the default zip file subdirs.
Rk-batch-tool 1.5 has u30gt drivers, browse the Rk-batch
tool's dir for the u30 drivers for your PC OS. Right click
on the rockusb.inf and chose Install, to install the driver.
2. Verify that you have a rockchip_usb USB Device under disk
drives in Device Manager. Control Panel->System->Hardware->
Device Manager->Disk Drives->rockchip_usb USB Device.
3. Dl TPSarky-VonDroid-Root.rar from
*"mediafire.com/?vd3y1rld2amdxq5"*
as a newbie I cannot post links, so search mediafire.com for TPSarky-VonDroid-Root.rar
4. Unarchive TPSarky-VonDroid-Root.rar, using an archive, or
zip utility: Winzip, alzip, etc. It may require the password
"geekbuying.com" to unrar the archive.
5. Mouse into TPSarky-VonDroid-Root directory created by the
rar file, until you get to TPsparkyRoot.bat and adb.exe
files, a couple of sudirs inside TpSarky unzipped file
directories.
6. Run, double click on, adb.exe first. It opens up a dos
command window, runs a dos executable that launches adb
server and connects to the U30gt. It opens and closes so
fast you won't hardly see it. If you Do Not run adb.exe.
first, Tp-Sparky-Root.bat will not communicate with the
U30gt, and your root will fail.
7. Now run, double click on, Tp-Sparky-Root.bat
Tp-Sparky-Root.bat will Immediately reboot the u30gt.
8. When the u30gt reboots, hit space key as instructed.
Tp-Sparky-Root.bat will reboot the u30gt, again.
9. Press the space key as instructed, again. The command line
will show
uid=0<root> gid=0<root>
if you have a successful root.
10. Press the space key as instructed, again.
The command informs you the U30gt root has been remounted,
there are a couple of errors relating to SuperSU, I presume
SuperSu was Not included in the tpsarky zip file, or is in
the wrong place for the batch file to find it, but you can
DL SuperSU from GooglePlayStore, nhnf. The Utility notifies
you that Tp-Sparky-Root.bat is completing the root.
11. The u30gt will reboot one last time.
12. DL Titanium Backup Root, Rootchecker, or Avast Android to the tablet,
and they will confirm a rooted tablet.
**As this method only Roots the device, and since it worked
on both my u30gt and an Imito-Mx1 mini android, I think it

Thanks to the people who initially posted the original root
routine for the IMITO-MX1 on Youtube, and to geekbuying for
this procedure, as well as the files for rooting the IMITO-
MX1 and ultimately the u30gt. A big thanks to Tp-Sarky or
Tp-Sparky, whoever they may be, for writing the batch file
that does all the work. I also want to thank 900Supersport,
kastycube and the good folks at alldocube for their various
flavours of the u30gt firmware and utilities, as well as
flashmyandroid.com
I have tried all flavours of android 4.1 firmware, 900
supersport, kastycube, to the generic cube-tablet.com
versions from 1.07 to the latest greatest build 1.11, and
None of them gives me access to the microsd card. I bought
two of these puppies for Christmas, IPS version, and neither
the original out of the box or my reconfigured one reads
microsd. It is possible that both got bad sd card readers,
but unlikely. As my imito-mx1 miniandroid reads the microsd
cards, as does the adapter in my pc, it is most probably an
U30gt flavour android system software issue. Anybody got any
clues how to resolve microsd issues in android?

Yep, but for security reasons it's better to install some su governor, because now every app can have root access without your permission.

Work on Touchmate TM-MID940
I have successfully root my Touchmate TM-MID940 with TPSarky Android rooting method
Thanks
Confirmed working on an Energy System i8 tablet.
The micro SD card on my device does not stay in properly, so this method was needed.
I had to manually fiddle with adb a little (I had been trying other methods to root), so personally I would change the instructions to explain how to open a command prompt and execute:
adb kill-server
adb start-server
(Check it says starting server)
adb get-state
(check it says device)
then run the batch file

backup password that you provide when prompted to backup your data. Else it WILL fail!
Linux and Mac OS X users may need to set the script permissions as executable. Depending on the
adb permissions, you may also need to sudo ./WhatsAppKeyDBExtract.sh from your command console.
If you're having issues with WhatsAppKeyDBExtract.bat then right click WhatsAppKeyDBExtract.ps1
and select Run with PowerShell. You may have to enter "y" at first run for script execution policy.
If you get an error saying "AES encryption not allowed" then you need to update your Oracle Java
Cryptography Extension (JCE) to Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files.

Yes, this is a normal backup method. There are automatic tools that do the same without using PC, just on device side.
Apart from normal ADB method, you could use ECLIPSE for that, using the memory module, you could transfer files from and in.
If you have physical access to the device, there are many solutions.

The only way to access private application files (such as a WhatsApp's cipher key) without root is the ADB method. You can backup some files on the device without a PC (APK's etc...), but there is currently no way to access private files and folders. All the "My Big Fat Backup" style apps and tools will either require root or ADB. Eclipse also utilizes ADB. Basically, device side backups of application data require root. There are no other alternatives to this. If there was, then Android would be too infeasible and insecure as a viable operating system. Physical access translates into only two solutions. 1.) The ability to root and 2.) The ability to utilize ADB (Eclipse, Bats, Exe's doing nothing more than calling a simple command line). Of course if you are aware of a 3rd method (disregarding the user interface) and is not based on root or ADB then please feel free to share.
Thanks for this tool!
I've just tried to use it, but it installs the java constantly (while java is properly installed on computer as other applications uses it without any problem )
By any chance, do you have any idea how to pass that?
Thanks!!

The bat file automatically checks for the presence of java.exe on your system. If it's not found then it starts the install. It would appear that for some reason it's not finding Java and hence why you're stuck in this loop. Please find attached a bat file without the Java check. Just put it in the same folder as the original and run this one instead. Let me know how you get on. Java also needs to be callable from the command line. To check this is working you should click on Run... within Windows, type cmd, click OK and type "java -version" (without quotes) and press Enter. This will confirm java is in the command path and print out your JRE build number. I have also updated the release in the OP and removed the Java check, as I have had a couple of similar reports of the loop issue.
Thanks again.

This sounds to me like you need to update your PATH Environment variable with the directory in which java is installed.
Open up a DOS window and type: "where java" (without quotes) to determine possible locations.
If it's located in: "C:\Windows\System32" then the following code should suffice:
Code:
set PATH=%PATH%;C:\Windows\System32
If it's located in: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin" then:
Code:
set PATH=%PATH%;C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin
The above needs to be added to the bat script BEFORE Java is called. You can edit the bat script by opening it with Notepad.
Alternatively, you could permanently update the PATH Environment (probably a better method).
To do this you would: Right click on "Computer" or "My Computer", within Windows Explorer, choose "Properties", click on the "Advanced system settings" and/or the "Advanced" tab, then click on the "Environment Variables" button. Select the "PATH" line, click the "Edit" button, and add the relevant directory to the end of any text that exists for PATH, prefixing the java path with a ";" (semicolon) if this line already contains other string paths. If PATH does not exist then you will need to add it. Sorry this paragraph is a little double-dutch (trying to cater for multiple versions of Windows).
Many thanks! I'll test when home and let you know.
Just to let know, the path command do not fix the prior version with Java check as I first thought this might be the problem.
Thanks!

Could even be use with ADB from phone to phone? without using the pc? Or I must install the app on the phone and do it offline?
I have find my way! Re-installed Java, manually clicked on java.exe stored in Java folder in Program files (or Program files (x86) ) I've clicked on Javacpl as well and enabled all options, not sure if this is necessary though.
I've then rerun the program without Java check (the Java check one is bugging now) and was able to do the back up.
Thanks!!
Best regards,
Melanie
Cannot tap button
Hi! i've done all the previous steps, but when i unlock the phone, to confirm the backup, i cant tap on "back up my data", it doesnt even grey at hover, just like the button wasn't there...
I can choose not to backup, that button works perfectly, and write the password too, i've tried all the screen, but nothing happends, so i can't backup the phone...
Does anyone think how to solve that? Thanks!

Try rebooting the device and trying again. If it is still greyed out, the backup feature maybe disabled on the device. Some manufacturers / service providers have specifically disabled usb backups.

It would appear that the key was extracted, but the "copy" wasn't pushed to the sdcard. KitKat? You don't need a copy of the key on your sdcard unless you want to use a supported app. As the key was extracted successfully, you could attempt to copy it by other means.

Hi, I am receiving the "Cannot find the path specified" error. I have tried both changing the script and also the other method, in environment variables. I am curious if this has anything to do with the fact that its an ATT phone (since no one can even root it yet)? No other apps can access my phone, either. I have USB debugging enabled and all prerequisite programs installed. Tried on 2 computers, win7 and win 8.1
I wonder if i it is an error on my part..?

I have reviewed the "Extract" folder and there was the key. I have managed to decrypt it.
Thanks for the help and the tool!
PD: sorry for my bad English, I use translator is haha.

Keep showing the initial message: "Please connect your Android device..." and in my phone nothing happens too. Just show a messagem at the upper tab saying: "USB debbugin conected".
Theres any kind of setting to do futher in the debbug options?
Thanks
Update: I had do install de universal adb driver for my phone, and now it starts the download, but now im having problem with java... the messagem says "'java' isnt a recognizable command". I tried all solutions in this post and nothing.. I need heeeelp!
Solution to path problem
Is working perfect. For someone else that can happen the same thing as me. I have to fix something (i am spanish) about:
java is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file
Here is the solution:
java .com/en/download/help/path.xml
Or here:
1. Right-Click My Computer and select Properties
2. Then Click The Advanced Tab
3. Then Click Environment Variables
4. Select Path In The Bottom Box and Click Edit
5. Find Where You installed Java (E.g "C:\Program Files\Java\bin)
Its different on each computer
6. Make Sure to add a semicolon after the word bin in the path to seperate it from the other important paths
7. If this doesnt work then you may have to reinstall Java and Try Again
Setting Path on Windows
For Windows XP:
1. Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced
2. Click on Environment Variables, under System Variables, find PATH, and click on it.
3. In the Edit windows, modify PATH by adding the location of the class to the value for PATH. If you do not have the item PATH, you may select to add a new variable and add PATH as the name and the location of the class as the value.
4. Close the window.
5. Reopen Command prompt window, and run your java code.

Have seen this error before (not related to bat file). You may need to revert to an earlier Java version.

[HOW-TO] Temporary Root on BNTV460

Easy way to get root access on BNTV460 (Nook Tablet 7" with Android Oreo)
This is a simple way of getting temporary root access on the Nook Tablet 7"(8.1.0 Go edition).
Needed materials:
The Nook you want temporary root on
A usb cable
A computer with ADB installed (I suggest using a Linux Distro for this because it doesn't require you to install drivers)
Big Note:
Any thing you do to mess up your device is on you. I am not responsible for your own actions. Modifying certain partitions while you have root may result in a device that needs to be reflashed.
Pre-setup:
1. Go to Settings < System < About tablet < Continuously tap on Build Number until it says you are now a developer
2. Exit Settings
3. Go to Settings < System < Developer options < Scroll down to USB Debugging and tap it so it is turned on.
1. First thing to do is to download the release file from https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/amazing-temp-root-mediatek-armv8-t3922213 under current version.
2. After that, extract the zip file you downloaded.
3. In a terminal, cd into the location of the mtk-su_rXX/arm (replace XX with the revision number of the file you downloaded).
Example cd command:
Code:
cd /home/yourusername/Downloads/mtk-su_r18/arm/
3.5. Plug in the Nook Tablet 7" into your computer and go into the notifications (swipe down from top). You should see something that says "Android System: USB charging this device. Tap it twice and choose Transfer Files. (If you don't do this, ADB won't work)
4. After that, follow the commands from the XDA page that you downloaded the file from except on the first one, replace path/to/mtk-su with mtk-su
5. If you follow the commands correctly, you should get
Code:
UID: 0 cap: 3fffffffff selinux: permissive
Uses for this:
If you know what you are doing having root is very useful. Big things you can do is backup your partitions to an external SD card so you can be assured you have them backed up in case you have to reflash them.
Issues with this method:
1. It goes away after every reboot
2. It sometimes gives permission denied
- This goes away if you restart the device and rerun mtk-su
Give all of your thanks to diplomatic on the thread about mtk-su, as he deserves any thanks he can receive for his amazing work.

A restricted Android TV -- stripped settings, no developer options, no adb

Hello,
I have an Android TV that forbids me doing almost anything, except installing apps by inserting usb disk.
System information: Android 4.4.2 Linux version 3.10.0_s5([email protected])(gcc version 4.4.1 (Hisilicon_v200(gcc4.4-290+glibc-2.11+eabi+nptl)))#1 SMP Tue Jul 30 11:29:05 CST 2019 ARMv7 Processor rev3(v71)
Settings is stripped that only simple TV related items left. I cannot enable developer options by tapping multiple times on some item. Also I don't see any WiFi-direct related settings that I want to use Miracast on my phone. I tried install settings.apk exported from another Android 4.2 tablet and failed.
Adb is not possible, not only that developer options is not enabled, but also adbd is not running (seen from ps command in terminal emulator app). "start adbd" have no effect -- maybe no permission with userID like 10045.
Computer has no response when connecting to its USB port (male to male), no new device found.
There is no /mnt/sdcard, instead there is /mnt/mmcblk1/mmcblk1p1, with only one folder named Android that I cannot access. If I insert a usb disk, it will be /mnt/sda/sda1. And it seems I cannot execute from sda1, e.g. su binary, even it shows r_x permission (I have corresponding SuperSu apk installed first).
Google apps are stripped, which is normal for chinese system; but while most system allow you install by yourself, this TV failed installing Google Account Manager app (Google Play Services and Store apps could be installed, all exported from another Android 4.2 armv7 tablet).
Tried a bunch of rooting apps and none of them work. Frama, Towel, Magisk, Kingroot, Kingoroot, etc...
I am confused. Hope people here could give some help.

APOS A8 Enable Mockup mode or install .apk not signed by Landi/Ingenico

Well, I need to install some apps on an APOS A8, but as it is in Release mode, it only accepts apps signed by the manufacturer, any attempt to install unsigned apps results in the error: INSTALL_FAILED_VERIFICATION_FAILURE
It runs an Android system called "Android 5.1.1 Secure OS", in MockUp mode it allows the installation of .apks normally, but I don't know how to put it in this mode. This "Secure OS" doesn't have a Developer Options installed, so enabling USB debugging or other function from this screen is impossible, and several common settings on Android phones are missing like enable unknown sources and backup and restore, apparently a service called "Titan " is responsible for blocking the installation of applications not signed by the manufacturer (they are signed with a program called LandiSignTool, which I didn't find anything), although there is no way to enable USB debugging, it is recognized by a modified version of ADB called "dlforU3.exe", through it it is possible to install signed applications, restart the POS in fastboot and EDL mode (its CPU is an MSM8909) and access a shell, however the system partitions are in read-only mode, and install applications with pm command is useless, only signed ones are installed. even though it goes into fastboot, I couldn't unlock its bootloader and I don't know what to do in EDL mode.
Can anyone out there help me?
