A restricted Android TV -- stripped settings, no developer options, no adb - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I have an Android TV that forbids me doing almost anything, except installing apps by inserting usb disk.
System information: Android 4.4.2 Linux version 3.10.0_s5([email protected])(gcc version 4.4.1 (Hisilicon_v200(gcc4.4-290+glibc-2.11+eabi+nptl)))#1 SMP Tue Jul 30 11:29:05 CST 2019 ARMv7 Processor rev3(v71)
Settings is stripped that only simple TV related items left. I cannot enable developer options by tapping multiple times on some item. Also I don't see any WiFi-direct related settings that I want to use Miracast on my phone. I tried install settings.apk exported from another Android 4.2 tablet and failed.
Adb is not possible, not only that developer options is not enabled, but also adbd is not running (seen from ps command in terminal emulator app). "start adbd" have no effect -- maybe no permission with userID like 10045.
Computer has no response when connecting to its USB port (male to male), no new device found.
There is no /mnt/sdcard, instead there is /mnt/mmcblk1/mmcblk1p1, with only one folder named Android that I cannot access. If I insert a usb disk, it will be /mnt/sda/sda1. And it seems I cannot execute from sda1, e.g. su binary, even it shows r_x permission (I have corresponding SuperSu apk installed first).
Google apps are stripped, which is normal for chinese system; but while most system allow you install by yourself, this TV failed installing Google Account Manager app (Google Play Services and Store apps could be installed, all exported from another Android 4.2 armv7 tablet).
Tried a bunch of rooting apps and none of them work. Frama, Towel, Magisk, Kingroot, Kingoroot, etc...
I am confused. Hope people here could give some help.

Rooting the rko3066/rockchip 3066 device

I'm a newbie to Android, but I fumbled around with a rooting tool and found a method that works to root two flavours of rko3066, rockchip 3066 devices. As it only roots the device, I see no reason why it should not root any android device, as long as the correct device drivers are used.

to your phone, tablet, pc or device.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Rooting u30gt-h
On tablet
1.In U30gt-h Settings->Display open sleep setting.
2.Set sleep to at least ten minutes.
3.In U30gt-h Settings->storage->click on Three dots in upper
right of Settings window title field
4 Select USB computer connection Dropdown menu .
5. Select "Mass Storage" check box
6. <-- backout of storage settings
7. Browse down in Settings and select Security
8.In Security Settings, Select Unknown sources, to give the
Android device permission to install software from sources
not specifically sanctioned by Google and the Android
Consortium. This ensures that the Root utility,
Tp-Sparky-Root.bat will have the necessary access rights to
root the u30gt. If you have any qualms about unsanctioned
files on your tablet or device, you will want to uncheck
this selection after the rooting process is complete.
Whether any of the rooted utilities and programs you will
want to use are sanctioned, is anybody's guess. As always,
be careful when Dling or intalling Any software. I trust
everyone has and uses anti-virus software on all your
devices.
8.scroll down in settings and select {} Developer
Options, if not there, go to (i)about tablet and touch and
hold the Build field and it will bring up developer Options
in the left hand main menu.
9. In Developer Options, select USB debugging.
10. Close settings, and any other open apps.
11. Goto U30gt main android desktop, to ensure good clean
reboots.
12. Using a Known good micro USB to std USB cable,
connect U30gt tablet to PC, you'll get a "connecting to usb"
in notifications area in Android, and a usb icon in the
notification area. You Do Not want to select "Connect to Pc
to Transfer Files", in the notification menu, just plug in the
cable and let it be.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
On PC
1. Search in a web browser for RKBatchTool_u30.zip, the 1.5
version, DL and unzip in the default zip file subdirs.
Rk-batch-tool 1.5 has u30gt drivers, browse the Rk-batch
tool's dir for the u30 drivers for your PC OS. Right click
on the rockusb.inf and chose Install, to install the driver.
2. Verify that you have a rockchip_usb USB Device under disk
drives in Device Manager. Control Panel->System->Hardware->
Device Manager->Disk Drives->rockchip_usb USB Device.
3. Dl TPSarky-VonDroid-Root.rar from
*"mediafire.com/?vd3y1rld2amdxq5"*
as a newbie I cannot post links, so search mediafire.com for TPSarky-VonDroid-Root.rar
4. Unarchive TPSarky-VonDroid-Root.rar, using an archive, or
zip utility: Winzip, alzip, etc. It may require the password
"geekbuying.com" to unrar the archive.
5. Mouse into TPSarky-VonDroid-Root directory created by the
rar file, until you get to TPsparkyRoot.bat and adb.exe
files, a couple of sudirs inside TpSarky unzipped file
directories.
6. Run, double click on, adb.exe first. It opens up a dos
command window, runs a dos executable that launches adb
server and connects to the U30gt. It opens and closes so
fast you won't hardly see it. If you Do Not run adb.exe.
first, Tp-Sparky-Root.bat will not communicate with the
U30gt, and your root will fail.
7. Now run, double click on, Tp-Sparky-Root.bat
Tp-Sparky-Root.bat will Immediately reboot the u30gt.
8. When the u30gt reboots, hit space key as instructed.
Tp-Sparky-Root.bat will reboot the u30gt, again.
9. Press the space key as instructed, again. The command line
will show
uid=0<root> gid=0<root>
if you have a successful root.
10. Press the space key as instructed, again.
The command informs you the U30gt root has been remounted,
there are a couple of errors relating to SuperSU, I presume
SuperSu was Not included in the tpsarky zip file, or is in
the wrong place for the batch file to find it, but you can
DL SuperSU from GooglePlayStore, nhnf. The Utility notifies
you that Tp-Sparky-Root.bat is completing the root.
11. The u30gt will reboot one last time.
12. DL Titanium Backup Root, Rootchecker, or Avast Android to the tablet,
and they will confirm a rooted tablet.
**As this method only Roots the device, and since it worked
on both my u30gt and an Imito-Mx1 mini android, I think it

Thanks to the people who initially posted the original root
routine for the IMITO-MX1 on Youtube, and to geekbuying for
this procedure, as well as the files for rooting the IMITO-
MX1 and ultimately the u30gt. A big thanks to Tp-Sarky or
Tp-Sparky, whoever they may be, for writing the batch file
that does all the work. I also want to thank 900Supersport,
kastycube and the good folks at alldocube for their various
flavours of the u30gt firmware and utilities, as well as

Yep, but for security reasons it's better to install some su governor, because now every app can have root access without your permission.

I have successfully root my Touchmate TM-MID940 with TPSarky Android rooting method
Thanks
Confirmed working on an Energy System i8 tablet.
The micro SD card on my device does not stay in properly, so this method was needed.
I had to manually fiddle with adb a little (I had been trying other methods to root), so personally I would change the instructions to explain how to open a command prompt and execute:
adb kill-server
adb start-server
(Check it says starting server)
adb get-state
(check it says device)
then run the batch file

ADB on RK3288 based device

Hey guys. I have a Rockchip RK3288 based device running Lollipop 5.1.1 that I would like ADB access to. I have tried all 3 USB modes, and it shows up on my PC each time, but neither "adb devices" nor "fastboot devices" ever shows it. I know, you're thinking "Have you enabled USB debugging?". No I haven't, and there's a reason. "7 taps" doesn't DO anything. I've also tried 10, 20, and 100. None of them seem to do anything. (There aren't any administrators, or other users defined either). Normally, the first step would be to root it. I've tried that as well. Towel root, Kingo Root, etc. Kingo makes it to 90%, and reboots. (Leaving it not rooted). Towel root just seems to hang. (Left it running overnight to make sure. No dice). I've also tried an APK from GitHub that just changes the Developer Mode flags. That just gets denied execution.
Twists:
* The device came with ES File Manager installed, and it's old enough that the HTTP exploit is still there.
* I can install third party APKs. (Obviously).
* I can't build/install/reflash a new ROM as the device has to stay like it is.
* USB Mass storage class works, so I can copy TO/FROM it very easily
* Device has no volume up/down buttons to use to get to recovery.
I just need root/ADB access.
What approaches have I missed?
Root Genius (RootGenius-v2.2.89.apk) also didn't work. I only took 1 semester of Mandarin, so I have to mostly GUESS, but it LOOKS like it was saying that I need to go to a website (that is no longer up), and download a PC app to do the rooting. (Which would be hard to do since the site is no longer up).

Question [TB-J706F] Restore Netflix L1 on the ROW rom.

As many of you probably know, recently the L1 netflix support for the this tablet dropped to L3.
We tried to restore it for a while without success, because the preinstalled app cannot be uninstalled normally and lower netlfix versions cannot be intalled in the top ot it (at least not from android itself).
But it seems that I finally found a way to do it sucessfully by forcing it through adb, here is the complete guide;
- Enable usb debugging on the tablet
- Get the latest android plateform tools including adb and android usb drivers and install it somewhere (shorter path is better).
- Download the 7.80 version of netflix in the usual place, and save it in the same folder as adb
- Open up a windows command prompt in that folder
- Input
adb install -r -d netlfix.apk (change the package name to whatever you named it)
- Allow the adb access on your tablet if needed
- Completely clear the app data (very important!)
- Disable auto update of that app in google play
- Done!
Please tell me if that worked for you, I might test out other versions to see until which version it does work and which breaks it.

[APP][NON-ROOT] Termux-ADB - debug one Android device from another connected by USB-OTG

Run adb in Termux without root permissions! This is a launcher for adb which enables debugging of one Android device from another via USB cable. It should work with any USB-C male-to-male cable or the corresponding OTG adapter + cable in case of micro USB.
https://github.com/nohajc/termux-adb
MotivationTermux has had the android-tools package for some time now but it only works properly if you root your device (due to missing filesystem permissions). This is because Android has its own API for accessing USB peripherals which is incompatible with Linux. Termux already exposes this API using the termux-usb utility (part of Termux API) but this is not enough to make programs like adb work out of the box.
Usually you would have to modify any application which accesses USB devices but there's actually another way.
When you start adb using termux-adb, it will use termux-usb in the background for device discovery and then essentially feed the device information into adb by intercepting some libc calls and emulating usb device files as they would appear on any linux machine (bypassing the file permission problem entirely).
At this point the program is in its early stages and therefore highly experimental. I tested it on two Android devices so far and I can't give any guarantees it will work for everyone. But you can try.
That is great work! It works fine in my honor handset!
When will you share the new release with multiple ADB device support?
Appreciate for your fantastic tool !
It's definitely on my TODO list but now I'm also dealing with the fact it doesn't work on some devices.
So, I don't have an exact timeline but I'll keep this thread up to date.
Version 0.2 released today: https://github.com/nohajc/termux-adb/releases/tag/v0.2.0
@Stanton1011 It supports multiple devices now.
Thank you. If you're wanting feedback, there seems to be a lot of lag getting it to connect at first but it does work and once it's connected no issues. The fastboot however has much more lagging and will say simultaneously that commands succeeded and failed (but just seem to fail). But adb works fine on moto g pure running android 11, moto g pure on Android 12, TCL Obama phone type android 12, Samsung a11 android 10.
Thanks for the report. I'm aware of the lag. It's mainly caused by how Termux handles USB access in general but it could be improved if fastboot ran in the background (same as adb).
As for the commands failing, I'll look into it. Which particular fastboot commands you tried?

Thank you so much, I will have a try and let you know the result.
The following problem is solved by Pkg upgrade.
I find a error for it ,please help!
CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE "./termux-adb": cannot locate symbol "_ZN6google8protobuf8internal14ArenaStringPtr3SetIJEEEvRKNSt6__ndk112basic_stringIcNS4_11char_traitsIcEENS4_9allocatorIcEEEEPNS0_5ArenaE" referenced by "/data/data/com.termux/files/home/termux-adb"...
I have a handset with the root permission only for ADB, but Termux(or any android APP) can not obtain the root permission. Could you tell a way to use the adb in termux, I know I can user your github project Termux-adb as what you did before., but I also need a alternative way. I have the root permission of ADB command(by PC). Can I modify some folder permission to achieve the same affect?

Android Newbie Questions - Looking to free my device from seller lock down.

Hello everyone,
I am new to android OS. I found this forum after an exhausting attempt at accessing what appears to be a disabled feature
(Settings > Accessibility Menu.) in the image I am running.
The following is what I can see about this device in Settings > About this machine:
20220803.223259
System Version: 22.08.03.1027.Z-JM3-S.V5.5.9
RAM: 4GB
ROM: 64GB
Android Version: Android 11
Since I am missing the above feature I began down a rabbit hole attempting other access options such as access to the devices filesystem and or remote capabilities such as SSH, and or VNC which have all ended in additional applications installed with nothing gained.
Examples are:
Installing PlayStore: Android Accessibility Suite
Does nothing when attempting to launch.
Installing PlayStore: SSH-Server
Upon configuring the server settings an informationsl message pops stating "Your device does not support the ARM library which is required to access the shell of your device. Out apologies, for help please contact us at [email protected]. You can however still setup an SFTP or SCP server using this SSH server" Proceeding and connecting leads to limited access of the devices disk.
Installing PlayStore: droidVNC-NG
droidVNC-NG > Permissions Dashboard > Input: Denied
droidVNC-NG > Permissions Dashboard > File Access: Denied
Installing and running KingRoot just spins at 01% Preparing indefinitely
Installed PlayStore: ES FIle Explorer
Tried to root with topjohnwu\Magisk but it's looking for a Patch file in .img or .tar format which I cannot locate a boot.img (or init_boot.img) or recovery.img file when searching through ES File Explorer.
Install: N/A
Zygisk: No
Ramdisk: Yes
Nothing much under the native Settings menu
Hoping for some ideas to gain control of this device so I may expand its current capability.
Any additional info that I may need to provide if anyone is able assist me?
I am a man of my word and will transfer $$ to you for your successful assistance.
Thank you
Was able to pull some additional info hoping it will help.
Accessibility Menu cannot enabled no matter what you're trying. it's not done by editing system file, one have to compile whole ROM from source code.
