Same, I wouldn't use anything else
I stopped using it since a few years after finding out, that there is a flood of catlog spam on my device that was caused by Nova Launcher. I used it by disabling access into the Internet. That was done by a firewall app or the built in permissions manager like in CrDroid.
After removing it my battery life was a bit better too.
I am not quite sure but this behaviour started after the app was sold to another company (afaik)?
EDIT
I have retested nova on my other phone that is rooted and the log spam isn't there anymore. Probably they've fixed something in the past year or so.

I for one, stopped letting it update after they were purchased like 3-4 months ago...so use AFwall to block all traffic to internet so it cant update. It definitely reaches out quite a bit imho.

Nova was only sold a few months ago, so if you stopped using it a few years ago it couldnt have been caused by the sale of the launcher.
If you were experiencing a battery drain it wasnt from Nova. Nova Launcher battery drain is so negligible it rarely even registers any battery drain. My last full battery charge was 36 hours ago, and the app stats register nothing. This is using the latest beta version, 8.0.3
I've used Nova for what seems like a lifetime, I've never had any issues with it and i just keep an eye out for what people are saying now this analytics company have their hands on it. It cant be any worse than welcoming our phones, our smart speakers and our smart TVs in to our lives can it? They already know when you went for a dump, how long it lasted, what you was reading whilst on the throne as it is.
It is a bargain at the sale price.

You need root and the app matlog.
You will see a lot of messages spam although you even don't touch the device.
After uninstalling nova launcher most of them stop.
@K1nsey6
You won't see a spam log in the battery stats of the app.
As said before, I wasn't sure about the time with the purchase. I just stopped using it, because of the many reportings in my logs.
Lawnchair didn't cause that problems for me.
EDIT
I have retested nova on my other phone that is rooted and the log spam isn't there anymore. Probably they've fixed something in the past year or so.

True that, I had to miss out on Nova for 2 years while I had my poco f2 pro which didn't support other launchers like Nova very well. Glad to be back on Nova prime again with the p7p.
Thanks)

Nova has usually done that, a major release after an Android version update (A10 to 11, 12 etc) to fix any new conflicts found and to add new features. Thats how a 12 year old app is only on V8.

For those of you that had bloat freezer by Trey Holland, and made the mistake of un-installing it quickly to find you can no longer get it again due to it being pulled from the market, I extracted the APK. Here it is, install and enjoy.

It *WAS* a paid app (and since it is no longer for sale and the developer has been suspended, it does not qualify as a paid app since you cannot buy it). However, 1 it is no longer available on the Market. 2 I spoke with Google on the phone today about it, and they said it was pulled because the developer has been suspended. This all came about because I just upgraded my epic4g yesterday to the Touch and wanted to re-install it, however it was no longer in the market. Google explained to me what happened, so I did the next best thing, I made an APK from another phone that still had it installed, and transferred it to my Galaxy 2.
Tells me that there is an update in the market, wont let me update so it wont let me use it :/ Really annoyed since I've actually bought this app, I have emailed the dev and he has said that they will be re-releasing with a new icon and description
We have to buy that again and then send an email with our new invoice and our old invoice and we'll be refunded

Yes exactly, some people with an older version of market can still see it, but it won't allow them to update it. Google pulled it. For all others it is not even visible. That is why I posted the APK for the file. It is the most up to date version of the app. An email to the dev wil quickly get you an auto-responded email stating that "he doesn't know why google keeps pulling it, and will release a new one, and that you will have to re-purchase." From who I talked to today at Google, I wouldn't count on that happening so much... but again not relevant since this APK IS the most recent version of the app, and most probably the last time it will ever be seen.
Cott, I reflashed my phone today and spent and hour trying to find this app. Your .apk won't run as it says there's and update. Is there anyway around this?

I cannot say why that is happening. I have not had that problem, I installed it today on my Sprint Epic 4G (2.3), my new Galaxy II Touch that I got yesterday, and my Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1, including a friends T-MO mytouch. I am not running any custom ROM's on any of my devices, I simply have them rooted so that I can get rid of bloatware, freeze the stupid crap, and not pay $29.99 a month for wireless tether.... I am not a dev......perhaps a dev with the time can look into the problem you are having and figure out a work-around? Any devs out there?
You can freeze any app also with Titanium.

Bloat Freezer was a buck, how much is Titanium?
Going to give this a try. Still running it on my Nexus S with no problems so far. Started with fresh clean stock ROM then rooted my E3d and couldnt find it in the market (now I know why). I'm using Antek right now (which is pretty good as well as another member stated) on my E3D.

Yes Titanium Pro is a must have app for rooted users, no question about it. However for the purpose of freezing apps, I find and many others have found as well that Bloat Freezer does it much better, and is able to freeze apps that Titanium can't. (Titanium will "freeze" certain apps, but then upon reboot, they are no longer frozen. (again that is with certain apps, and seems to be more or less of a problem based on what phone you are using and what ROM. Bloat Freezer does work better for the purpose off app freezing. Period. An added bonus of Bloat Freezer is that it color codes apps of what it thinks are completely safe to freeze, which ones you DO NOT want to freeze, and ones that it does not recommend freezing, which is very valuable for alot of "new to rooting" people we have floating around XDA, and therefore has the potential to prevent alot of un-needed posts and fights and other BS that goes on on XDA, therefore is benificial to our community. I have played with antek app manager as another person pointed out. I do find it to be a usefull app and has its purposes for sure. It's a must have as far as I am concerned, although lately I have been leaning more on "Gemini app manager". You should check that one out as well. Again though, for freezing bloat, nothing is as effective or safe, or "newb friendly" as Bloat Freezer. Oh, and to the other person pointing out that it is (was) only $1, good point, titanium pro is currently going for $6.96.

When I said Titanium was a must have regardless for root users, I should of said that I meant the PRO version of course. Thats why I posted this APK, because I know I loved it and I knew there must have been thousands of others that did as well, and since it is no longer available I figured this is one way I can contribute back to the XDA community.
I had purchased this app and wasn't able to re-download it when I upgraded from my DX to my Bionic.
I just installed the APK you posted and whenever I launch the app, it tells me there's a new version and the choices are Update or Exit. If I choose update it takes me to the market where it can't find the app. If I choose Exit, it just exits out of the app so it can't be used.
Hitting the back button on the phone dismisses the pop-up, but it still doesn't list any of the apps, and then selecting Refresh just bring the pop-up back.
Looks like I'm screwed.

Ok, so this was a huge problem on the Mediapad X1. Where huawei's memory manager kills apps in the background. Why do we need task killers today Huawei? Please stop
On the Mediapad X1 there were a bunch of apps like Google Hangouts that would get killed even though you tell it not to get killed via "Protected Apps", having your texting app not run in the background is bad as you can imagine. So now I have an X2 and it seems like this Protected App thing actually works better, however I noticed today that the bluetooth services were getting killed in the background as it would not pair with my car until I turned on the screen. Because these are built in services you can't "Protect" them.
Just posting this here so hopefully Huawei can see it and fix it
But seriously, they should just use the memory manager built into android and not try to monkey around with, we don't need task killers any more.

I am on an X2 now and yes, it appears to be working so far (Using SimplyText), I've only had the phone for 2 days however so I am still testing, but this was the main reason I almost didn't buy and X2 because of apps shutting down all the time on my X1 in the background.
What tweaks are normally required?

I have had Textra recommended to me as a work-around for MMS texting glitches. I am used to that now and will try it but if I have problems I will try your app. By tweaks I just meant that so much of what most of you do is not what a "regular" cell phone user would know. I had no idea there were memory manager things I might need to address. (I haven't done that before). That is why I am here. To learn about new things and to be prepared as much as possible for when (at this point it is "if") my 702L gets here!

You have to go into startup manager and check each app, protected apps and trust each application, add it to startup, and in permission manager you have to trust each application. I agree though, I wish this didn't exist as there's no need for it. If you're rooted you can take it out but you'll lose the Do Not Disturb mode as it is baked into it.

I was rooted on the X1 and getting rid of the Power Manager still made stuff die in the background, it was pretty irritating. So far with the X2 it mostly works. As far as I can tell only bluetooth dies (Which I can't add to any of those apps as its a system app)
The X2 is such a better phone than the X1. I hope Huawei keeps on top of bug fixes. With a generic android memory manager this phone would be truly awesome.

I got my X2 today from fashioncoconuts on eBay and everything is good. It even came unlocked. I'm liking these eBay sellers.
Edit: after I did a factory reset it said the bootloader was locked. Now when I use Google Maps it tells me I must update my Google Play Services. When I do my Google Account Disappears and my Play Store doesn't open. I'm beginning to dislike Huawei's implementation of their apps. Blocking certain apps from being installed is totally lame on Huawei's part. Now the waiting game begins for my unlock code. I'm giving them three days. If not both phones are going on eBay and I'm done with Huawei. Rant over.

Yeah. They told me they shipped it out on the 5th and didn't until the 15th. Now I know why. They raised the price too right after I bought it. A lot of these eBay sellers jack the price up way too high. No one should pay more than $399 for it. I'm just glad it came already unlocked. It seems Huawei is no longer sending emails to people with the unlock codes anymore.

Ok, this morning bluetooth connect up fine (I'm on B108)
But I noticed the Lux (screen brightness app) had stopped in the background.
Services shutting down in the background was a huge issue on the X1 and for the most part seems to work on the X2 but it seems some things still get killed in the background once in a while even though they are "Protected Apps"
I'll keep monitoring and see if I notice anything else...
So, for some reason my Samsung S7 is showing ads both during charging more, see photo below and when its not, meaning when I slide to unlock the phone, the first thing on my screen after unlocking it is an add.

Someone posted in the regular S7 questions forum that they took the verizon OTA update and the same thing happened to them. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/vzw-update-annoying-lockscreen-t3378055 Maybe you should talk to them and see if you guys have similar apps installed that may have caused this.
For SMS typing i use Swiftkey. I never had used Go (anything). And what is UC browser? I only have Chrome, Dolphin and Next Browser.
Also I noticed that when I get the "promoted ads" while using my phone, which looks like the photo on first post except for the battery icons, when i click on it, it automatically opens a browser page with a facebook url but then the URL switches to whichever was being promoted.
Now I do not have Facebook, I dont even have an account. My facebook app was removed but I kept necessary apps to run Oculus.

ES File explorer used to be my default file browser but it has gone downhill this past year. Sad to see what the developers are doing with what was a great app.
I dont mind ads within the app, not at this extend. This is just ridiculous. And is there an app that can easily identify which app is pushing ads to my phone? Because Malwarebytes did nothing, neither Avast or Lockout. You guys as a whole community helped me alot. Thanks guys.
So here I am, 6 weeks later with my p40 pro, I have completely indulged in the world of Huawei mobile services & Im increasing the level of my knowledge around certain apps and alternatives, The biggest one thanks to @linux25 for recommending it in a previous thread regarding vanced, I was a bit unsure on how to do it at one point, BUT its live. So that's YouTube ticked off :highfive:
other than that I think the obvious alternatives are there now and to be fair im not bothered about what I use for them, My gmail I use Huaweis own email app, It does the same thing Ive never been one for google pay as I think its a rapid way of being skint really early after payday lol. Ive just recently downloaded the Tom Tom app, which I love, clean and easy to use and on my adventures over the weekend in the campervan I gave it a good go and well yeah it got me to a to b easily.
So the question remains of what other google apps do I need that there isn't alternatives for? Personally ive run dry on problems and im free flowing with solutions
6 weeks in and im glad I got this device!
After Much searching for a new phone mine is being delivered today.
I hope I get on with it, coming over from a Google Pixel 2xl.
Eyes wide open and not too worried about Google services etc.
Yep I feel pretty similar at this point.
I'll be honest prior to actually owning this device I was a bit skeptical about the whole "HMS" thing and their alternatives being true replacements for some of GMS, and not just plugged holes - and my original thought was to side load GMS - I was really wrong! The Huawei Cloud is super clean, and I love how all my photos from my Mate 10 Pro and P30 Pro sync over to my P40 Pro in separate folders on all 3 devices. Seeing how well this has been executed has definitely made me intrigued to see what else they have to offer going forward.
YouTube through the browser just wasn't going to be a full term solution for me, but Vanced is a game changer I wish I had even when I was using GMS based Huaweis! (It's now on the P30 Pro also)
I do wish there was a way to get individual apps working (including niche ones) using split installers without having to fully side-load GMS onto the device!
Have yet to give TomTom a go, have been using Waze for a year and minus the odd wild goose chase it puts you on occasionally I do still think its better than GMaps (although the similarities are getting closer)
Get Barclays working, and apps accessible for general consumers a little bit easier and I think Huawei might have been done a favour....
Found it really similar TBH. No real issues i still find the odd app that doesn't work like the Starbucks app. In fairness that helps me out because I will be spending less on coffee.
Having Android as a foundation on new Huawei devices is a blessing and with more and more developers coming on board daily it is a matter of time before HMS is the next best "since sliced bread" there are very few apps that I need from a GMS device such as Sky News, Sky Bet etc but am hopefully these will make there way across soon enough.
A big one for me would be gaming payments for example as a time pass I play Candy Crush on GMS but on HMS I do not have the functions to buy credits (if that makes sense)

If they could split it that would be good, however I would have to have a tutorial every time lol
I'm missing a working gcam mod for this phone. Any idea which ver works for kirin hardware?

Probably not a helpful answer but why would you need it? I could understand when Google's software was more colour accurate than Huaweis but I don't think this is the case anymore.

I tried a GCam mod out on my Mate 10 Pro a few years back, sharpness looked great but could never get the colours to work properly, always looked super flat and un-contrasty.
you must use Snapdragon device if u prefer Gcam on your phone

No GCam version works on current Huawei phones. You would need to unlock the bootloader and enable camera2 api, but that's not possible.
Only GCam GO works. But no point in using it on the P40 Pro.

Sorry for the late reply.
I'm working night shifts and have only switched the phone on for a few minutes to see how things look.
I have to say it feels great in the hand and it is a step up from my 2xl.
Super slow motion video is amazing and I'm surprised to say that I like the look and feel of EMUI.
Sorry not much help to you but I intend to have a good play around at the weekend and turn it into my daily driver.
to add to this post - does any one know of a way to cast the phone other than wireless projection? I have both a chromecast and a fire stick - would be super useful for me! Plus im currently in the middle of converting a van into a campervan - so ill be running a 12 v TV but it wont be a smart TV - So ill be using a hotspot to connect either one of the devices (chromecast/firestick) so which ever one can (if possible) would be amazing

You could use an ago called Allcast, I have found this worked well for me. Can cast media, not sure about projection.
id say all cast works best and is compatible with multiple different apps so everything son one place

Huawei have done a great job in a short space of time. the big question is, what do y0u think is next big step for Huawei?

Yeah makes sense. I like gcam mainly for its hdr and AI capabilities. I think huawei is doing very well in those aspects as well :good:

Agreed. There's always room for improvement though, so GCam would be a very nice option for those interested - me included. I always had GCam installed on my previous non-Huawei phones. Sad I can't do it on my P40 Pro, but it is what it is.
Like the title says, is there a PD out there that works on the s22? I need to debloat this phone and the latest version of Package disabler pro doesn't seem to work on the S22. It just keeps telling you to keep clicking until it fails and has you download the knox check which then makes you keep clicking forever.
Try this...

Yeah that's what I've have (3 device cloud copy), it doesn't work on the S22 ultra, at least it didn't for me. It works on my note 9, the older a8 tablet running 11 and the galaxy s8 that i traded in, but all it does on the s22u is keep telling me click and then download and install the knox apk then go back in and keep clicking forever.
It's a knox issue, and i think the guy needs to update something in it.

Try emailing them... they do respond.
Use adb edit. Running a Samsung without bloat control isn't a pretty picture.

Already did email him. Asked him to see what's up and take the s8 off my account since I traded it in.
Adb appcontrol looks promising, that was recommended by butchieboy
do you have a link to adb edit so i can check that out too?

Never had to use it, sorry.
Part of my massive feedback to Samsung has been for a native package disable on their phones. Not happy with Samsung... they've been disappointing lately.
Use adb app control. It's a PC app but it's free and amazing. You'll never have to waste money on that fleecing app package disabled ever again.
He fixed package disabler pro. It works now
Fixed for now. I've heard the issues on that app for years and people having to pay for it multiple times or releasing a new app for new phones. Shady at best.

yup, the guy wants you to pay for it every year, but at least he had it fixed within hours.
he also said if it shows up in the play store (google removes it a lot) and you buy it there you're basically screwed for support cause he'll make you rebuy it off his website no matter how long you've owned it.
but it works and you dont have to be a device admin, and once you get it working it stays working.
Not advocating for him, just saying the few things that can be compliments for how he operates
Yeah I appreciate he does support his app. He's been around for a long time and that does say something. At least we have options and we can be happy with what we choose to use. The freedom of android
Anybody try App Freezer yet? Just got my phone and looking to set it up. App Freezer has worked flawlessly on my Note 10+ since day 1.
I haven't tried it or heard of it but I like looking at apps recommended by other users so I'll check it out.
I took the plunge with App Freezer. Even with ADB side loading, install was quick. If you're gonna do it, it's best to do it first, because you have to delete all accounts to set it up. It's worked great on my Note 10+, my Tab S6, and now seems to be running fine on the S22 Ultra.

Installed it to today. Tried every which way to get it to work on my LG G7 but wouldnt recognize my phone.
I normally use adb without it so I followed this guide and then installed the app. Not sure it'll help but worth a shot.
Installing adb and fastboot on Windows PC
Another thumbs up for adb app control. I downloaded it earlier this morning and prefer it to paying for PDP or CCSWE.
Alliance Shield X works great for me from the Play Store. It's free!

Yeah it's shady. I paid for it twice and then figured out what he was doing. If he puts it on the store and it gets taken off the store and he gets it put back on you have to buy it again or it won't work when you download to use it. If you get a new phone then it won't work and you have to buy it again. If you go to sleep at night and wake up the next morning then it won't work and you have to buy it again lol. I have two package disabler apps in my apps list and both of them are obsolete.
