Stupid ads - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

So, for some reason my Samsung S7 is showing ads both during charging more, see photo below and when its not, meaning when I slide to unlock the phone, the first thing on my screen after unlocking it is an add.
Can anyone help me removing them? It just started 2 days ago. And I have not installed any apps since nearly 2 weeks.
Thank you in advance.

Do you have ES File Explorer installed? They have this new battery fast charge part of their app that puts ads on the lock screen.

Go products are doing that now as well

No ES File Explorer installed or Go Pro app. The funny thing is that Fast Charge was unchecked on my phone. Never had used it and dont want to, makes the phone hot, I could even cook an egg on it.

Someone posted in the regular S7 questions forum that they took the verizon OTA update and the same thing happened to them. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/vzw-update-annoying-lockscreen-t3378055 Maybe you should talk to them and see if you guys have similar apps installed that may have caused this.

For SMS typing i use Swiftkey. I never had used Go (anything). And what is UC browser? I only have Chrome, Dolphin and Next Browser.
Also I noticed that when I get the "promoted ads" while using my phone, which looks like the photo on first post except for the battery icons, when i click on it, it automatically opens a browser page with a facebook url but then the URL switches to whichever was being promoted.
Now I do not have Facebook, I dont even have an account. My facebook app was removed but I kept necessary apps to run Oculus.

It's from Next browser which is made by the GO Team

Could Next radio have anything to do with it? I recently got the lock screen too, and it seems like it was just after the latest update. That's when I installed next radio since the fm chip was activated.

I was just going to ask if it was from Next Browser because I noticed that the Promoted advertisement I receive when I open my phone, it automatically opens Next Browsers even thought it is not my default browser.
And now it has been uninstalled.

Noticed this too and promptly got rid of ES File Explorer. Used to be a good program, but it has been getting more intrusive lately. This was the final straw.
I got rid of all Go products as well for these unwanted features. Lame

ES File explorer used to be my default file browser but it has gone downhill this past year. Sad to see what the developers are doing with what was a great app.

I dont mind ads within the app, not at this extend. This is just ridiculous. And is there an app that can easily identify which app is pushing ads to my phone? Because Malwarebytes did nothing, neither Avast or Lockout. You guys as a whole community helped me alot. Thanks guys.

Bloat freezer apk

For those of you that had bloat freezer by Trey Holland, and made the mistake of un-installing it quickly to find you can no longer get it again due to it being pulled from the market, I extracted the APK. Here it is, install and enjoy.
Isn't bloat freezer a paid app? You can't post those here...

It *WAS* a paid app (and since it is no longer for sale and the developer has been suspended, it does not qualify as a paid app since you cannot buy it). However, 1 it is no longer available on the Market. 2 I spoke with Google on the phone today about it, and they said it was pulled because the developer has been suspended. This all came about because I just upgraded my epic4g yesterday to the Touch and wanted to re-install it, however it was no longer in the market. Google explained to me what happened, so I did the next best thing, I made an APK from another phone that still had it installed, and transferred it to my Galaxy 2.
Tells me that there is an update in the market, wont let me update so it wont let me use it :/ Really annoyed since I've actually bought this app, I have emailed the dev and he has said that they will be re-releasing with a new icon and description
We have to buy that again and then send an email with our new invoice and our old invoice and we'll be refunded

Yes exactly, some people with an older version of market can still see it, but it won't allow them to update it. Google pulled it. For all others it is not even visible. That is why I posted the APK for the file. It is the most up to date version of the app. An email to the dev wil quickly get you an auto-responded email stating that "he doesn't know why google keeps pulling it, and will release a new one, and that you will have to re-purchase." From who I talked to today at Google, I wouldn't count on that happening so much... but again not relevant since this APK IS the most recent version of the app, and most probably the last time it will ever be seen.
Cott, I reflashed my phone today and spent and hour trying to find this app. Your .apk won't run as it says there's and update. Is there anyway around this?

I cannot say why that is happening. I have not had that problem, I installed it today on my Sprint Epic 4G (2.3), my new Galaxy II Touch that I got yesterday, and my Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1, including a friends T-MO mytouch. I am not running any custom ROM's on any of my devices, I simply have them rooted so that I can get rid of bloatware, freeze the stupid crap, and not pay $29.99 a month for wireless tether.... I am not a dev......perhaps a dev with the time can look into the problem you are having and figure out a work-around? Any devs out there?
You can freeze any app also with Titanium.

Bloat Freezer was a buck, how much is Titanium?
Going to give this a try. Still running it on my Nexus S with no problems so far. Started with fresh clean stock ROM then rooted my E3d and couldnt find it in the market (now I know why). I'm using Antek right now (which is pretty good as well as another member stated) on my E3D.

Yes Titanium Pro is a must have app for rooted users, no question about it. However for the purpose of freezing apps, I find and many others have found as well that Bloat Freezer does it much better, and is able to freeze apps that Titanium can't. (Titanium will "freeze" certain apps, but then upon reboot, they are no longer frozen. (again that is with certain apps, and seems to be more or less of a problem based on what phone you are using and what ROM. Bloat Freezer does work better for the purpose off app freezing. Period. An added bonus of Bloat Freezer is that it color codes apps of what it thinks are completely safe to freeze, which ones you DO NOT want to freeze, and ones that it does not recommend freezing, which is very valuable for alot of "new to rooting" people we have floating around XDA, and therefore has the potential to prevent alot of un-needed posts and fights and other BS that goes on on XDA, therefore is benificial to our community. I have played with antek app manager as another person pointed out. I do find it to be a usefull app and has its purposes for sure. It's a must have as far as I am concerned, although lately I have been leaning more on "Gemini app manager". You should check that one out as well. Again though, for freezing bloat, nothing is as effective or safe, or "newb friendly" as Bloat Freezer. Oh, and to the other person pointing out that it is (was) only $1, good point, titanium pro is currently going for $6.96.

When I said Titanium was a must have regardless for root users, I should of said that I meant the PRO version of course. Thats why I posted this APK, because I know I loved it and I knew there must have been thousands of others that did as well, and since it is no longer available I figured this is one way I can contribute back to the XDA community.
I had purchased this app and wasn't able to re-download it when I upgraded from my DX to my Bionic.
I just installed the APK you posted and whenever I launch the app, it tells me there's a new version and the choices are Update or Exit. If I choose update it takes me to the market where it can't find the app. If I choose Exit, it just exits out of the app so it can't be used.
Hitting the back button on the phone dismisses the pop-up, but it still doesn't list any of the apps, and then selecting Refresh just bring the pop-up back.
Looks like I'm screwed.

ICS Update is, shall we say, underwhelming

Maybe this is blasphemous, but after updating to ICS, I am very disappointed. I was looking forward to the better interface and everything that ICS provides, and after installing, it turns out that everything is pretty much exactly the same, except that the phone now supports ICS apps, is more laggy, and (for some inexplicable reason) no longer supports notification bar brightness adjustment.
Granted I've only been playing with it for a few hours, but is anyone else disappointing by this so called update?

personally, I was impressed. but only because I never use tw launcher (nova when ics, holo when gb). lagginess will ensue until you reboot 3 or 4 times. this is normal. let it build it's cache. and idk what you're talking about in notification bar brightness adjustment :/ i never knew it was a feature
Yeah TW sucks. I personally have noticed faster boot times, more responsiveness, and amazing battery life. I have been running with wifi calling all day so far (5 hrs) and still am at 96%. Ditch tw & disable bloat and check it out.

Did you remove/delete the bloat, or just freeze it in TB. Is there any bloat that is unsafe to remove? I want get rid of as much as I can to free space and improve perfomance. So far I've deleted Tmobile Mall, Gamebase, and Social Hub...but was afraid to do anymore, not sure what connection they may with other apps etc.
Thanks

Rooted by re-flashing cwm in odin using the same method as before. Then I downloaded supersu.zip from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742522 and went into cwm and made a backup and then installed supersu from the zip. Rebooted and opened supersu and updated binary and had root.

List of things I removed through titanium that I knew were safe:
411 & More, Accuweather.com, Accuweather Weather Daemon (used in the widget - I have accuweather premium and don't need these), Application monitor, Bonus apps, buddies now, customize homescreen (tw widget), Game base, lookout (encountered error so I removed the apk from system/app using root explorer), media hub, mobile life (also had error had to remove through root explorer), mobile life contacts, mobile life family organizer, more for me, netflix, samsung account, slacker radio, social hub 1.0 & 2.0, tmo mall, tmo name id, tmo tv, qik video chat, telenav gps (had to remove through root explorer), visual voicemail, yahoo finance, yahoo news, yelp, zinio, zs provider (used with zinio), and access tmo (I actually prefer tmo 'my account' as access t-mo is browser based.).
I am sure that there is more that can be safely removed but some of it I haven't seen before like the system manager app so I didn't touch it.

[Q] Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 - Very slow - Please help

Hey
I just won a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 White 32gb last week, i've been playing around with it a bit and i've found that it is incredibly slow, slower than my ASUS Transformer TF300T. And i was expecting a monster of a machine with the specifications in the Note Pro.
There are delays in just navigating the menu, sliding down the menu thing from the top. Typing on the keyboard, i can write on word and keep writing and it freezes and then my last word pop up (sorry for bad explaining, hopefully you understand). Scrolling up and down on a website in Chrome, it can just freeze for a few secs. Opening some apps from me tapping the app to it opening can be delayed like 6-8 seconds or something. Also have slow problems when i'm using Perfect Viewer for reading comics, flipping a page can sometimes delay for seconds.
Never had any of these issues on my ASUS Transformers TF300T
Also have some issues with the pen when playing around in the Sketchbook Galaxy app, if i lift the pen away from the screen and then put it back, it doesnt identify the pen close to fast, it takes a long while.
I would be more pissed if i payed for it, still pretty bummed though even if i won it.
I will be super grateful for any help i can get
I made a video, but i cant link it here, maybe i can link it in a PM if somebody wants to help?
Hi, I have the same device and it screams, no delays at all...
What I have done from the start is install a new launcher, in my case Holo HD, to get rid of Touchwiz which supposedly consumes a lot of resources...
I suggest you give that a try...

No delays here either. All stock. Maybe something is downloading to cause that slowness. Look in upper left corner for moving arrows. If you see one moving then something is downloading and you can see what that is by swiping from the top of the screen.

Can't think of anything else, maybe you do have a hardware issue.
As a last resort you could perform a factory reset to see if that cures the responsiveness issues...

This guide should be all you need. http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...ide-samsung-how-flash-stock-rom-via-odin.html
You can download the firmware files at http://www.sammobile.com/firmware and enter SM-P900 in the search box. The file you want depends on your region. If from USA, then Cellular South is the one you want.
Please ask for assistance if you have more questions.

Should all the files be deleted after this re-flashing is done? If so, then i must have done it wrong, all my apps and everything is still there and it is still slow. I followed the guide and got the "PASS" in Odin.

Here's a video showing some of the slow issues i'm talking about
EDIT:
Has anyone heard of this problem with the Galaxy Note 12.2? Slow as f*** right out of the box? So infuriating
Seems like a collection of issues. First thing I'd do is get rid of the task killer application. IMO kit kat manages memory just fine. A better way to go is to use greenify to keep less frequently used applications hibernated so that frequently used ones will be cached. When I set up my devices after rooting I'll freeze things I'll never use and then I'll watch a system monitor application for things that load in the background. Anything that loads in the background that I don't want to use frequently (and don't need to keep alive for notifications) I'll consider for greenifying.
For the perfect viewer issue, where are the files? Is that memory latency? Kind of seems like it. Agree though, usually should run better than that.
I have to admit the first thing I thought was that perhaps you have a big SD card installed with a lot of media and the media server process is running and showing things down.
IMO in general out of the box these things are laggy but with some tweaks things improve a lot. The lag is subjective, some aren't bothered by it but for those of us who are it's a big nuisance.

The issues im having were present right out of the box, i installed the task killer to see if that would help, i dont have the task killer application anymore after i reset it again - still the same problems.
Is Android 4.4.2 the latest version available for Galaxy Note Pro 12.2?
Only other thing that could be the problem is hardware i suppose, but what kind of problem? that would make the device soooo slow.

Are you going to root your S6?

So over the past few months I've noticed that I've been needing root access less and less to get things done...
Think I'm actually going to try and keep the S6 stock... unless there's something really annoying about Lollipop that only a root will fix...

I'd root it just for Ad-away, couldn't use Android without that. Especially given how intrusive ads are on mobile.

+1 and Titanium backup and Tasker and Xposed
Same here. Ad-away and AFWall+ alone are worth the hassle of root for me.

Since I'm stuck on AT&T, probably not. The Note 4 as well as the S5 still haven't had much progress as far as rooting.

I am also doing the same from the same priod.......The past few months.
if you don't tinker a lot then rooting is pretty pointless. imo titanium backup is so overrated unless you change a trillion things every day that you constantly need to use it. i just install all the stuff i need on a rom and that is my backup. for ad blocking i typically do that on my router. the problem with using adaway and similar apps is they typically slow down the loading of Web pages as the html souce has to be parsed twice, once by the browser and again by the ad blocker.

no i am correct
you won't really notice that much unless you run benchmarks to time the page loading speed. the more ads on the page the more processing. it's not like a huge difference but there is a bit of delay as the html is being parsed by the browser plugins to remove the ads from the html code. for me its just more practical to do the processing/ad removing on the router side.

I'm on att... is it nearly 100% certain that no root will be obtained for this phone?

Think I'm actually going to try and keep the S6 stock... unless there's something really annoying about Lollipop that only a root will fix...

Huawei's decision to use its own memory manager....

Ok, so this was a huge problem on the Mediapad X1. Where huawei's memory manager kills apps in the background. Why do we need task killers today Huawei? Please stop
On the Mediapad X1 there were a bunch of apps like Google Hangouts that would get killed even though you tell it not to get killed via "Protected Apps", having your texting app not run in the background is bad as you can imagine. So now I have an X2 and it seems like this Protected App thing actually works better, however I noticed today that the bluetooth services were getting killed in the background as it would not pair with my car until I turned on the screen. Because these are built in services you can't "Protect" them.
Just posting this here so hopefully Huawei can see it and fix it
But seriously, they should just use the memory manager built into android and not try to monkey around with, we don't need task killers any more.

So your texting app is working fine without any android-genius tweaks required? What app are you using? I NEED that!

I am on an X2 now and yes, it appears to be working so far (Using SimplyText), I've only had the phone for 2 days however so I am still testing, but this was the main reason I almost didn't buy and X2 because of apps shutting down all the time on my X1 in the background.
What tweaks are normally required?

I have had Textra recommended to me as a work-around for MMS texting glitches. I am used to that now and will try it but if I have problems I will try your app. By tweaks I just meant that so much of what most of you do is not what a "regular" cell phone user would know. I had no idea there were memory manager things I might need to address. (I haven't done that before). That is why I am here. To learn about new things and to be prepared as much as possible for when (at this point it is "if") my 702L gets here!

You have to go into startup manager and check each app, protected apps and trust each application, add it to startup, and in permission manager you have to trust each application. I agree though, I wish this didn't exist as there's no need for it. If you're rooted you can take it out but you'll lose the Do Not Disturb mode as it is baked into it.

I was rooted on the X1 and getting rid of the Power Manager still made stuff die in the background, it was pretty irritating. So far with the X2 it mostly works. As far as I can tell only bluetooth dies (Which I can't add to any of those apps as its a system app)
The X2 is such a better phone than the X1. I hope Huawei keeps on top of bug fixes. With a generic android memory manager this phone would be truly awesome.

I got my X2 today from fashioncoconuts on eBay and everything is good. It even came unlocked. I'm liking these eBay sellers.
Edit: after I did a factory reset it said the bootloader was locked. Now when I use Google Maps it tells me I must update my Google Play Services. When I do my Google Account Disappears and my Play Store doesn't open. I'm beginning to dislike Huawei's implementation of their apps. Blocking certain apps from being installed is totally lame on Huawei's part. Now the waiting game begins for my unlock code. I'm giving them three days. If not both phones are going on eBay and I'm done with Huawei. Rant over.

Good Ole fashioncoconuts. They raised the price big time by the time I was trying to jump in and also told me when they answered my message that they were temporarily out of stock. You got a GREAT deal on that one! Worth the wait!

Yeah. They told me they shipped it out on the 5th and didn't until the 15th. Now I know why. They raised the price too right after I bought it. A lot of these eBay sellers jack the price up way too high. No one should pay more than $399 for it. I'm just glad it came already unlocked. It seems Huawei is no longer sending emails to people with the unlock codes anymore.
I use bluetooth in car, and it connects automatically without turing screen on. There must be some other issue.

Ok, this morning bluetooth connect up fine (I'm on B108)
But I noticed the Lux (screen brightness app) had stopped in the background.
Services shutting down in the background was a huge issue on the X1 and for the most part seems to work on the X2 but it seems some things still get killed in the background once in a while even though they are "Protected Apps"
I'll keep monitoring and see if I notice anything else...
