Question Custom Notification Sounds and Ringtones no longer working after upgrading to the latest version of WearOS - Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

I recently installed the latest version of WearOS onto my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 46mm, I discovered that now I can't install the custom notification sounds and ringtones onto it. Does anybody know how I can resolve this issue?

Did this method survive an update?
Edit: just saw above it doesn't even survive reboot so an upgrade even less likely.

Who has already tried it, does it work?

Good afternoon,
Problem when adding ringtone to OPPO Watch. If you add them to the /sdcard/Ringtones/ category and after restarting the watch, they are displayed in the "Settings-Sound-Ringtone of the watch". The ringtone can be listened to and selected as a ringtone. However, during a test call to the clock, instead of the ringtone, a system sound similar to the sound of an error plays. And if you make a test call through "Find a device", then the ringtone works.
I tried to add a ringtone via ADB to the root of the system, where the standard ringtones are located. But, when copying, it gives an error. Through the file manager, when copying, the ringtone is not saved. Perhaps this is due to the restriction of rights. You need root rights.
Please tell me someone was able to deal with this problem?
Thank you!

After Samsung Watch 4 classic & Watch 4 Pro got the latest firmware update .Samsung locked many things.Like earlier one can add custom ringtones & notifications. But now one cannot at all.No matter what you do you can't set or add a custom ringtone or notifications. (BUT)

Any ideas on this? Anybody?
You should install it and see if it works. That's the only way to tell as nobody knows right now.

Installed the .apk by clicking it or placing it in the /system/app/ folder?
If you placed it in the app folder with the other file reboot the phone and see if it recognizes it and works.

I installed it from the play store, ran it (which installed some additional files), and then opened it. Now I have a huge list of items, but no idea what any of them mean or what they do.

Couldn't help you there. I use Handcent SMS Pro Beta. I also buy their yearly subscriptions for $9.99. I can send out a text list and the schedule them to send if I want to send them at a certain time. IT has many options. If you do decide to use Handcent go to your applications>All and disable Messaging to turn of the stock application or you will get double alerts.

He isn't asking about a messaging app. OP is talking about boosting his BT audio.
@op - Have you tried the Viper4Audio mod? I used this for my earbuds and BT connection for my car audio. It makes a huge difference. There is a link for it under the S3 apps and theme section.
The Synergy custom ROM and probably many others have options for boosting audio playback on headphones and bluetooth, which I think is what you are asking. its not really clear what you are seeking, but it you mean media playback on A2DP on bluetooth, then ramble over the the development section.

[Q] How-to DISABLE OTA UPDATE NOTIFICATION on android 4.4.4?

Hello. I tried Lollipop for a loooong time and now I'm sick and tired. I downgraded to 4.4.4 but I have a persistent notification in the status bar saying that the new system update to android 5.0.1 is available. But I don't want it!
Is there a way to disable that notification? It is very anoying. I tried to download FOTAkill.apk and put it in system/apps with rw--r-r- permissions but doesn't work.
I know that the simplest solution is to install a custom rom but I am very happy with stock rooted + xposed + modules.
I will be very happy if one of you have a solution!
Thank you!

But this will block ALL notifications. Isn't it?
Install Autostarts, disable all systemupdateservice receivers, reboot. Should be good to go at that point.

No. You can disable only ongoing notification. So, when you get system update notification, go to GB>ongoing notifications and block present one.
Thanks both of you! Both solutions works. I used GravityBox for the moment because it's the simplest one.

The second one, but GB it's simples, fastest and I don't need to install other stuff.
Tell your sons that some years before Messi and C.Ronaldo there was another Legend, named Alessandro Del Piero He was the captain of my favourite football team (Juventus) from 1993 to 2013

Don't "block" or disable the notification, kill the receivers responsible for it or you WILL get wakelocked to death. Goodbye battery.
There's already a thread on XDA how to properly do this. Search next time.

Thank you man!
I'm in the exact same boat. I found that actually click on on the .apk file, and installing the app did something. I think it might be "working". But that means that while the update icon isn't in the top bar, it's still in the pull down menu. I still see it all the time! Any help would be terrific.
I froze the update file
This works for tmobile s4 & s3 to stop ota!!!
Sept 19th, 2015 2:30am Las Vegas, NV.
What I just did was get my device storage down to .667MB, turned my WiFi back on and it's not trying anything with the OTA lollipop update so it may be a bandaid but it gives me back my WiFi. Unchecking theSU "update automatically" does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO STOP IT! I TURNED OFF/FORCE STOPPED SU, KNOX, WFUpdates, Everything.... Carrier pushes it thru anyway. So it says its downloaded but it's got no place to go. For now that's good enough for me! My phone still says 4.4.4. & the update is in top left corner doing nothing.
WON'T LET ME SHOW SCREENSHOTS SO... all I did was literally copy EVERYHING from my SD card to my download file on device until I got down to .667MB ALL on my data plan only! Do NOT do this over WiFi or the update will come thru. Took about 2hrs lots of videos but the end result it worth it. It can't update because there's no room to & so far it's not trying to delete old files to make room (knock on wood), so for now maybe this can help anybody else who does not want Lollipop to destroy my s3 & s4.

Root access

I know it seems rather trivial, but is there someone working on root access for the gear s2? I'd love custom ringtones like on my gear s.
It can be done without rooting your device. Unfortunately, I don't have a 3g S2 to test it :-/
if you have a method, I'd be more than willing to test and get back to you . Tired of the boring stock tones lol
Actually I'm working on one, and it's very close to release
I can help test with a 3G version as well.

Thanks! Currently, I'm having troubles with installing the file on a tester watch other than my own. The steps are rather complicated and difficult due to Samsung's strict policy about distributing apps outside the store. Once the problem is solved, I will let you know. :fingers-crossed:

The problem now is that even if I signed the wgt file with the tester's watch id, it still refuses to install. I'm trying to solve it before I invite more people to test
I also have a 3G version, will be willing to test out. Really sounds dumb, but i want to have custom ringtones, i bought the Filemaster app for $3, it shows you root access. but will not let you transfer to that folder.
Unless someone has a way to do that.
Let me know if you need any testing.

With root access, is one able to modify system settings like on Android phones (like buildprop tweaks)?
I'm specifically looking for ways to fix the buggy always-on mode still turning off the display & to change the screen timeout.
But if one modifies the watch, will OTA updates still work?
And is there an Odin-like program for the Gear S2?

Damn, just found this thread and read through it. Haven't looked at Tizen development yet, but am well-experienced developing for Android.
@tipztv, what you mention about deployment is very troubling! How does this issue affect private app development and deployment on one's own watch? I have all kinds of little apps I've developed over the years just for myself to plug functionality holes or just make something easier to do on the phone. Of course, with Android, it's trivial to do this. How about on Tizen?
No news about the root ?
Was root never achieved?

any way to stop / kill / remove Music Player?

Hi,
With tizen 3.0.0.2 I started to monitor battery usage and it looks like Music player is pretty much up there consuming my battery. I never actually use music player so not sure why it consumes battery. Is there any way to stop it permanently or disable it somehow?
Thanks.

I second this, I've also noticed that half the time when my watch wakes it's now on the media player and not the watch face. Even when no media was playing. Cannot figure out how to stop that from happening yet.. but as soon as I have enough time to figure it out I will share it here
1.
It seems only affected T-Mobile SM-R765T with latest Firmware R765TUVU3CRD2
2.
We could try to identify if these are settings problem...
Or inside this Firmware is buggy Music Player App
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76472181&postcount=21
Maybe somebody here who is willing to identify problem...
Maybe workaround could be to replace this app, by older Version...

i did the following and so far, it seems to help but NOT sure if it will stick:
- force stop the app (music Player)
- clear cache on Gear S plugin, Gear IconX,
Gear
- restarted Gear and my phone (Note 8)
Battery still sucks. was far better on 3.0.0.1
**UPDATE 5/11/18** Did not help, still comes back, but not as often as it did.

While I still have not had time to look into this further, my guess is the only fix would be in the Gear app on our phone, notifications, and make sure we turn off notifications for whatever is causing this (not sure what the specific app would be as I am not wearing my watch right now so I cannot pull up the list of apps that I allow to send notifications to the watch)
That's the fix I intend to explore first, if you can check this for us, you may solve it now. Or maybe not lol

Even though it's annoying af with the media player popping up, my battery life is FAR better on this update than it has been in ages. Oukitel WP7 General Discussion

Greetings to all.
So we have a well-developed topic by model Oukitel WP6:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/oukitel-wp6-discussion-t4112963
but we don't have a topic by model Oukitel WP7 at all, although this phone has similar problems in the firmware - unloading applications from memory by firmware, non-delivery of notifications, etc. I would like to know if it is possible to install an alternative firmware on this model, and how to do it.
Thanks.

It's not the problem with the phone, it's the users . This phone has some hardcore security settings turned on by default. If You configure it properly it will work like any other. For example let's say You want Messenger app always ready to receive new messages. First enable notifications in phone settings then go to the Phone manager app(big shield icon) and to its setting, add messenger to the white list so it wont be killed on lockscreen, also enable autorun for it so it can work all the time.
I'm totally fine with the way it works, it's easier for me to grant the notifications to few important apps than to disable it on all the garbage like shopping apps or games.
Hi. I am interested in this phone. It works fine? Any problem?

What i did
This is a very interesting phone model.
Currently done and fixed:
- Received root on both official firmware, on v16 and v29 (Magisk, pathing boot.img)
- fixed destruction of applications from memory, thanks to instructions from the topic about Oukitel WP6
That, so far, I could not win:
- Forced disabling of notifications from applications when updating from Google Play and another, I do not know how to deal with this.
The latter is very annoying, since you have to follow each update and re-enable notifications.
Perhaps, under the root of the rights, just edit some file to fix this?

If you can unlock the bootloader then I think it's as easy as flashing the GSI using the same method in wp6

Thank you, I read it, I got root rights according to the instructions, I want to stay on my native firmware, fixing the developer's bugs in order to safely use the phone, but I could not defeat the disconnection of notifications from applications when updating

It's not the problem with the phone, it's the users . This phone has some hardcore security settings turned on by default. If You configure it properly it will work like any other. For example let's say You want Messenger app always ready to receive new messages. Yes, I did everything, and even more, I was able to overcome the disconnection of wi-fi and bluetooth with a long inactivity.
You're right about the user.
But can you tell me.
How to prevent notifications from turning off when apps are updated in Google Play?

do you mean some apps force close and you won't get notifications when your phone goes off? if that's the case then just TURN OFF the "intelligent power saving" in the settings or from SYSTEM MANAGER APP. if it still kill your background apps then you might need to uninstall the duraspeed app on your phone if it's installed.

Thanks for your reply.
I went through the indicated stages and I got rid of the problem described by you.
I did not delete the DuraSpeed, but turned it off through the ADB and the MacroDroid.
But I mean a completely different problem.
Let's say I install the Viber or Slack application, after installing from Google Play, notifications are turned off by default. OK. I enable them in my notification settings. After a while, these applications are updated, and notifications are disabled in the settings again.
This is the problem I mean.
Hello every body,
There is a built in app named DURASPEED. Open the app third party file explorer and then you can leave the app stay on backround Like message, whatsapp, email and so on that they dont got killed.
Then phone is just awesome
Okey, i see you are allready found that app. Next time need to read more

"The latter is very annoying, since you have to follow each update and re-enable notifications" My phone doesnt have that kind of problem, when i turned notification on they stay on even if the app is updated. Somethin wrong with you?
Volunteers are needed to check the file.
I'm ported from the BV9900 TWRP 3.3.1 in unofficialtwrp.com
It works for me, I think the community will also be useful.

Its not workin
No adb, no usb connect. Can not transfer file via computer to Phone.
Can not mount data & system. If you want them mounted you need to format all but then you can't get any file there.
Maybe if i but sdcard in and try that way. But no time to test today.
Can you used it normal, like it supposed?
I try to flash gsi, but that also doesn't work. Without twrp of course.

Do not worry.
I found what the problem is.
I apologize for the inaccuracy of the wording and wrote that it works, although in fact it just started, loaded, but the functionality is cut down.
The problem is in the mapping and I need several diligent hours to fix it and update it for us.
Thank you for your feedback, this is very important to me.

It looks like it will take a little longer than I expected. I did not take into account the encryption of the partition /data, I read in detail how to overcome it.

I'm wondering, since I started, I achieved some success, in the new version the zip installation works from a connected external flash drive, and I download several dozen de-encrypting modifications, maybe over the weekend it will turn out to sort out and bring the idea to the end, cleaned up the extra ways and made the ADB work in this mode, maybe over the weekend it remains to decipher and then it will be ready for the test.
