Root access - Samsung Gear S2

I know it seems rather trivial, but is there someone working on root access for the gear s2? I'd love custom ringtones like on my gear s.

It can be done without rooting your device. Unfortunately, I don't have a 3g S2 to test it :-/

if you have a method, I'd be more than willing to test and get back to you . Tired of the boring stock tones lol

Actually I'm working on one, and it's very close to release

I can help test with a 3G version as well.

Thanks! Currently, I'm having troubles with installing the file on a tester watch other than my own. The steps are rather complicated and difficult due to Samsung's strict policy about distributing apps outside the store. Once the problem is solved, I will let you know. :fingers-crossed:

Thanks! I have sdb setup on my computer at home, and the ability to install sideloaded wgt files if that helps

The problem now is that even if I signed the wgt file with the tester's watch id, it still refuses to install. I'm trying to solve it before I invite more people to test

I also have a 3G version, will be willing to test out. Really sounds dumb, but i want to have custom ringtones, i bought the Filemaster app for $3, it shows you root access. but will not let you transfer to that folder.
Unless someone has a way to do that.
Let me know if you need any testing.

Ok guys any news on rooting this baby?

With root access, is one able to modify system settings like on Android phones (like buildprop tweaks)?
I'm specifically looking for ways to fix the buggy always-on mode still turning off the display & to change the screen timeout.
But if one modifies the watch, will OTA updates still work?
And is there an Odin-like program for the Gear S2?

Sorry but I'm not familiar with this topic. I haven't messed with the Tizen system before. However, I'm sure that the Odin-like app for the S2 doesn't exist

The custom ringtone app is now available for 3g users. Let me know what you think about it

Damn, just found this thread and read through it. Haven't looked at Tizen development yet, but am well-experienced developing for Android.
@tipztv, what you mention about deployment is very troubling! How does this issue affect private app development and deployment on one's own watch? I have all kinds of little apps I've developed over the years just for myself to plug functionality holes or just make something easier to do on the phone. Of course, with Android, it's trivial to do this. How about on Tizen?

No news about the root ?

Was root never achieved?

Free Remote Android Support App

Zikk is unique mobile to mobile remote support app.
So what's so special about Zikk?
It is designed for consumers and not for IT depatments and operators,
therefore it is extremely simple and user friendly.
It provides full privacy protection - no screen sharing, and no access to SMS, email, etc.
It doesn't require constant internet access, and doesn't prevent the recipient from using his
phone for other purposes during the process.
It supports all Android devices (2.2 and above).
In addition to remote support, Zikk contains a local settings menu which uses Zikk's simple
and friendly interface.
When people have a hard time setting up their smartphones, they ask help from their friends
and family - Zikk enables users to help each other.
APK attached. Also available on Google-Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zikk.alpha)
where you will also find a short and helpful demo video. You van also find the video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsP9-Lpfwpk).
So both people need Zikk installed, I presume? Does the person you are helping get prompted to download it?

Correct. If the selected contact does not have the app, the user will be asked to allow sending
an automatic SMS with a link to the download page. There is also a share option where you can
send this message (via SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.) to one or more people.

The current version is designed for Android phones does not support WiFi-only tablets or
large screen tablets, however in a few weeks I will publish the tablet version, which will
include UI adjustments, tablet related features and a different registration process.
Sounds AMAZING! I'd really like to use this to help my friends and family. I live in India though
No worries, I'll wait
fantastic idea!!! this will surely take off!! kudos to the OP!!
how far this app will go ? I mean can I help someone from anywhere ?
What about phone types? What if my phone is a Nexus and the other device is a HTC?

Great ideas for the next version - thank you very much!
I like the app a lot, but what make it one of the best is if I could move, install, & uninstall system apps, and a root file manager so that we can help rooted users also

Actually a version for rooted users is an interesting idea. Not sure how common "less tech savvy"
rooted users are though. If you have more ideas for features for rooted users I would love to hear them.
I actually have a friend who is just getting into root use who calls for advice when he needs it. Let's be honest we were all beginners once and maybe could have used a little hand. He moved recently so there is distance involved now. This looks like a great idea.
I would love to have access to the settings menus, root file explorer and perhaps apps he already has installed such as set CPU or apps of that nature.
Beginners in root use are just as confused by root abilities as beginners in android are of it's stock features at times.
It would be really great to be able to start a log cat app and have your friend do something that normally causes a crash for example if they are not advanced enough to run one themselves. A current issue I have on hand. Trying to explain how to run one and sending videos to watch.
Hope this keeps going

[Q] new apps on gear app store

Hi,
Recently, I start to receive very few new apps each and every day. Previously I was seeing several apps per day now 1-2.
I would like to make sure that it is not a specific problem to me.
For example, today only one app is added . It's name is Crystallite. Can anyone confirm ?
In addition to this, yesterday my app named "Ultimate Info Watch" was approved. But I still can't see it on store. Is there anyone here who is able to reach my app ?
Thanks.
I see crystallite and gear alarm. I don't see yours though.. Hope that helps
I just bought my gear 2 and I'am loving it, but Tizen will certainly have the same fait as Bada! Samsung kills t! It is not interesting for developers! We have just a few apps and a thousand of watches! We have just one custon rom!
Every day we see less and less apps on samsung store! It is sad!
I will keep my gear 2, but I think that in less than 2 year it wont even be able to concect to a phone anymore. Samsung will give up on Tizen and the future android plataforms wont provide support.
Tizen has so mutch potential... I think it is better than android wear, but his dead is certainly...
Probbly will buy a lg watch r and keep the gear 2

Did you get a link to your app in the approval email? Maybe you filled out something improperly. You did post a question in the general section of this forum.

they don't provide a link in the approval email. I'm sure I didn't fill out anything improperly. And yes, I posted this in the general section because it is some kind of "out of scope" discussion. Maybe I shouldn't have marked it as a question.
Probably you have the same problem as me. One of my apps was approved a few days ago. Standalone app for gear 2 and gear s. In the update I selected all possible devices, can't remember hie many, but somewhere between 60 and 100. App was approved without comment. I didn't see it anymore in the app store. In the seller store I can see that it is only available 8 (eight!) devices. This is clearly a Samsung error, because when a standalone app works on a gear 2, works on the gear 2 independent the related phone. I sent Samsung a message yesterday, now waiting if they are going to solve this.

Yeah, i'm getting tired of having to pay for every single app.
Don't read me wrong, i want to pay for good apps. But most of the apps are real crap. But you find this out after paying.
For this app, i'm waiting for another watchface i really want. (Watcher). The upcoming update have hourly weather and appointments in one.

On which screen can I see which devices are selected for my app ?
I will also write to Samsung if I find similar issue. But first I must find the problem.

the app uses the default background you select in background settings. Actually, I made a demo version to make trial available. But the approval process takes too long. So, if you want to try before purchase, please wait a cople of weeks.

@mrmrmrmr Check in the seller site your app, by clicking on the link "For Sale" of your app. Then go to binary and you see the device count. You can click on the symbol left to the count, then you can see the list of devices for which your app is available.
When updating you can select the binary tab and click the advanced button. You will then get access to the device selection options. Automatically all recommended devices should be selected. Let me know if all devices are available for your app or only a few. Samsung said to me that it was my error and that I had to submit the update again with the full selection of devices. But I'm sure that I did this, so I think they made an error during the certification process. I did a new update, selected all devices and have to wait for another week to see if it will be ok now. It is such a slow process with Samsung, I really prefer android apps on Google, much easier to change/update apps.

thanks. I see 43 devices there. My device is Galaxy S5 , but in the list of 43, I only see: Galaxy S5 광대역 LTE-A -
that is really weird.
Maybe we are all missing lots of apps for just that reason.
Try to do an update, check the list of recommended devices and see if you can select more than the current selection of 43. You don't have to change anything in the update, you can just leave the binary and description unchanged. You can change the device selection, country selection and fill in a certification comment explaining the content of the update and then submit. Good luck.

I asked it as a question. But this seems to be a generic problem and I am afraid that most of us are missing lots of apps with similar problems. For example, I am using Galaxy S5 as a phone and maybe I am missing lots of available apps. And S5 is an important/commony used phone. Am I wrong ?

Car Mode for Galaxy (works with mirrorlink)

Do you guys have the latest car mode for galaxy with mirrorlink? I think its version 3 and its only available on note 5 thru Galaxy Apps store. I need the apk file. Thanks!
What you could do is download a rom and get it from there
Its not preloaded,it has to be downloaded from galaxy apps store.
I was going to install it & copy the apk to post here but it's got pretty bad reviews. Users reporting it screws up your home & back buttons even after uninstall. I could always just restore a nandroid if really needed but I don't feel like doing all that right now. You're not able to download it on your phone?
I can't. Im trying to port it thats why im looking for a copy. Thank you. I hope you can give it a try
Ok, here's what I got installing it. One is the app, the other is some remote installer? Carmodestub.apk has always been in my stock based rom prior to installing, not sure if it's required for Carmode to work but I'm including it anyway just in case.

At first, I also couldn't find Car Mode in GALAXY Apps (UAE) so I called Samsung support and they said they would look into the problem and make it compatible with my device. I thought it's just another generic response, but less than 24 hours Car Mode re-appeared in GALAXY Apps with a slightly updated version number. You can download the APK file from the attachments. This version (3.xxx) is actually great for driving, and much improved from the Galaxy S5 (v0.1xxx) or even S6 (v2.xxxx). It is feature-rich now. It can work with HERE Maps which are more reliable and work offline, and can get location information from your contacts and calendar events (amazing feature) so you can easily select a person or event instead of searching the map. It stores the recent destinations just like a normal car navigation, and can also be configured to ask you if you want to save the parking location when you exit the car mode.

It's most probably because of the different ROM. I live in the UAE, and use XSG (open/unlocked) ROM. If you use a carrier device, you'll always get different things here or there. I am not sure you can flash other Samsung ROM's if you use USA carrier devices (different model numbers from the international version SM-N920C). However, just like I mentioned in the beginning of my post, you can contact Samsung and ask them to make it available. They did this in my case (or maybe it was just a lucky coincidence).
You can also try a direct link to the app in GALAXY App store, like this
Code:
http://www.samsungapps.com/appquery/appDetail.as?appId=com.sec.android.automotive.drivelink&equipID=SM-N920C
(change SM-N920C to your model number)

How do I get to the original downloaded APK? I searched the phone and only found CarmodeStub (that comes preloaded) and CarModeRemote, both of which are only a few hundred kb is size, not the 15 MB claimed in the Galaxy app store. If getting the APK requires root, we are out of luck as I'm on Verizon.
I'm starting to see more reviews for the app in the Galaxy app store though. So hopefully people can actually get to it now.

You can use an app like ES File Explorer File Manager which you can use to back up any app. There are a lot of similar apps but this one provides better names for the backed up apks (App name+vesion).

OK, you didn't find it because the apk name doesn't include the word "car", it's com.sec.android.automotive.drivelink
That's one reason why ES Explorer is much better. It is not simply a file browser or manager. The APP function is ES is a complete App management solution.

I already googled before asking (and found that article, I even bought the tasker app for it, and even so, I think that method isn't the best, until now I found reasons to avoid buying tasker, now I need to find the best uses for me to use it LOL), but I want a root way or even an xposed way of doing this by hooking into the source, not by getting a different app to always listen to me (and probably take more power then needed, as I think google did the work needed to make it take as little power as possible)
and I already have a rooted and exposed phone, so I thought may as well hook into whatever controls the hotword (I know it works on the phone offline, it does not need to connect to the internet to verify the hotword...) and change the local hotword...

You could try modding the Google/Google Assistant apk. I wouldn't know where to modify it or if it can even be done.

Oukitel WP7 General Discussion

Greetings to all.
So we have a well-developed topic by model Oukitel WP6:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/oukitel-wp6-discussion-t4112963
but we don't have a topic by model Oukitel WP7 at all, although this phone has similar problems in the firmware - unloading applications from memory by firmware, non-delivery of notifications, etc. I would like to know if it is possible to install an alternative firmware on this model, and how to do it.
Thanks.

If you can unlock the bootloader then I think it's as easy as flashing the GSI using the same method in wp6

It's not the problem with the phone, it's the users . This phone has some hardcore security settings turned on by default. If You configure it properly it will work like any other. For example let's say You want Messenger app always ready to receive new messages. First enable notifications in phone settings then go to the Phone manager app(big shield icon) and to its setting, add messenger to the white list so it wont be killed on lockscreen, also enable autorun for it so it can work all the time.
I'm totally fine with the way it works, it's easier for me to grant the notifications to few important apps than to disable it on all the garbage like shopping apps or games.
Hi. I am interested in this phone. It works fine? Any problem?

What i did
This is a very interesting phone model.
Currently done and fixed:
- Received root on both official firmware, on v16 and v29 (Magisk, pathing boot.img)
- fixed destruction of applications from memory, thanks to instructions from the topic about Oukitel WP6
That, so far, I could not win:
- Forced disabling of notifications from applications when updating from Google Play and another, I do not know how to deal with this.
The latter is very annoying, since you have to follow each update and re-enable notifications.
Perhaps, under the root of the rights, just edit some file to fix this?

Thank you, I read it, I got root rights according to the instructions, I want to stay on my native firmware, fixing the developer's bugs in order to safely use the phone, but I could not defeat the disconnection of notifications from applications when updating

Yes, I did everything, and even more, I was able to overcome the disconnection of wi-fi and bluetooth with a long inactivity.
You're right about the user.
But can you tell me.
How to prevent notifications from turning off when apps are updated in Google Play?

do you mean some apps force close and you won't get notifications when your phone goes off? if that's the case then just TURN OFF the "intelligent power saving" in the settings or from SYSTEM MANAGER APP. if it still kill your background apps then you might need to uninstall the duraspeed app on your phone if it's installed.

Thanks for your reply.
I went through the indicated stages and I got rid of the problem described by you.
I did not delete the DuraSpeed, but turned it off through the ADB and the MacroDroid.
But I mean a completely different problem.
Let's say I install the Viber or Slack application, after installing from Google Play, notifications are turned off by default. OK. I enable them in my notification settings. After a while, these applications are updated, and notifications are disabled in the settings again.
This is the problem I mean.
Hello every body,
There is a built in app named DURASPEED. Open the app third party file explorer and then you can leave the app stay on backround Like message, whatsapp, email and so on that they dont got killed.
Then phone is just awesome
Okey, i see you are allready found that app. Next time need to read more

"The latter is very annoying, since you have to follow each update and re-enable notifications" My phone doesnt have that kind of problem, when i turned notification on they stay on even if the app is updated. Somethin wrong with you?
Volunteers are needed to check the file.
I'm ported from the BV9900 TWRP 3.3.1 in unofficialtwrp.com
It works for me, I think the community will also be useful.

Its not workin
No adb, no usb connect. Can not transfer file via computer to Phone.
Can not mount data & system. If you want them mounted you need to format all but then you can't get any file there.
Maybe if i but sdcard in and try that way. But no time to test today.
Can you used it normal, like it supposed?
I try to flash gsi, but that also doesn't work. Without twrp of course.

Do not worry.
I found what the problem is.
I apologize for the inaccuracy of the wording and wrote that it works, although in fact it just started, loaded, but the functionality is cut down.
The problem is in the mapping and I need several diligent hours to fix it and update it for us.
Thank you for your feedback, this is very important to me.

It looks like it will take a little longer than I expected. I did not take into account the encryption of the partition /data, I read in detail how to overcome it.

I'm wondering, since I started, I achieved some success, in the new version the zip installation works from a connected external flash drive, and I download several dozen de-encrypting modifications, maybe over the weekend it will turn out to sort out and bring the idea to the end, cleaned up the extra ways and made the ADB work in this mode, maybe over the weekend it remains to decipher and then it will be ready for the test.
