This morning I noticed something odd happening with multi-touch controls while playing a game (Cordy). Whenever I would jump, I would then stop moving as if the controls stopped responding. I tried basic troubleshooting, restarting the app, closing other apps, rebooting the phone etc, but the problem persisted.
So I then downloaded a multi-touch testing app from the Play store to see if this was an issue with the controls in the game or with the phone, and found that when I have two touch points on the screen and then release one - like for example pressing the jump button in a platformer - the screen loses both touch points.
So, after all that, I was curious if anybody else is having this issue with their phone. This is not the first time I've played a game on my phone, nor even the first time I've played Cordy...but I've never noticed this before. Can anybody confirm this is related to the implementation of multi-touch on the One X and not an defect with my particular unit?
Does the G-nex or other phones have a similar implementation of multi-touch?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I did kind of notice something that sounds like it's in the same ballpark. I bought NBA Jam for my One X and it plays well, but I noticed that sometimes it seems like if I am still moving (using left touch) I sometimes cannot hit the buttons. I thought it might have been a calibration issue, but it does sound very close to what you were mentioning. Anyone else seen this?
I used this app as well as this app to test, if anybody else would like to try it for themselves.

I just tried out the first app and I cannot replicate your problem. I can use all 10 of my fingers at the same time and remove any at will without losing any other touch points.
I've seen a thread on this before and the problem is probably worthy of invoking your warranty over.
Thanks for the links. I just tested and it looks like there are only 2 touch points and then becomes unresponsive to touch inputs. Does anyone know if this is a hardware limitation or software?

Edit: I turned off HTC Gestures in the Display and Gestures option in Settings and I am up to 10 points now.
Just an update, this appears to be an issue related to the use of WidgetLocker. Disabling WidgetLocker allows me to remove a contact point on the screen with out losing all of them, enabling WidgetLocker brings the issue back. I messed around with some settings in WidgetLocker but could not find a solution to this issue. I'll try contacting the developer and seeing if this is a bug with WidgetLocker that can be fixed, or perhaps an issue with Sense 4.0.

Do you have HTC gestures enabled on the phone? Once I turned them off I was able to multitouch with 10 points again.
I have widget locker installed as well. I have the amazon version 2.2.4 which isn't the current version. Widget locker on the amazon app store is version 2.2.4 and on the google play store is 2.2.7 so if you installed the amazon one it is out of date...like a lot of apps on the amazon store theses days it seems.
Aaron
Nope, I disabled HTC gestures on day one (just not a feature I'm interested in), however I did enable it after you brought it up and noticed the same thing you did.
With regards to Widget Locker, I'm using the latest version from the Play store - in fact, I just purchased Widget Locker last night, which would explain why this issue just cropped up! However, I'm glad to hear that Widget Locker does in fact work for you guys... I just have to figure out what is causing the multi-touch conflict on my phone.
Hi.
I'm experiencing a nasty little bug when I try to reply to a message from a quick reply window when the screen is locked.
This is what happens:
If the screen is off and I get message in an app that has the quick reply feature in lock screen enabled, as soon as I tap the text field the screen starts flickering horribly, like switching very rapidly between the lock screen and the quick reply window trying to open the keyboard. It feels like the phone is going to explode. I first noticed this when trying out Telegram, I thought it was an issue with that particular app, but then I enabled the feature in Whatsapp just to test, and the same thing happened.
Could this be a Lollipop bug? I don't know much about this stuff, hopefully someone can shed some light here.
I'll try to upload a screen record later in case I'm not explaining myself (which is likely due to my limited English vocabulary).
EDIT: Ok, here's the screen record -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KI9d_PiQ9zA&index=1&list=UUJBPMHNSOxSqUiEkqtQiTRg (I know I should've covered my contact's name but I didn't know how to. I trust you won't murder her )
Thanks in advance.

Ok, the problem is with the Keyboard (Swiftkey), Google keyboard works fine in this situation. It has already been reported in the Swiftkey forum.
lollipop flickers when replying whatsapp messages at lock screen
I do not have swiftkey installed in my nexus 5 but also having issue of flickering.

Hmm. Also with quick reply windows in lock screen?
Correct. Try to reply whatsapp message at the lock screen and the screen goes crazily flickering. It flickers then get frozen for 10 seconds or so. If I agree to send a report to Android, it allows me to unlock the phone, then minimize the reporting screen, goes into whatsapp to reply.

Have you tried with other apps with quick reply feature? If not, try it just to see. Also, what keyboard do you use? I don't see this with the Google stock keyboard

I use a keyboard called TouchPal. The problem only occurs when the screen gas security lock. If the screen is not locked, no issues.
I have the same issue with Nexus 4 and Swiftkey. Had to switch back to Google keyboard.
Exact same problem, different variables.
I have this EXACT same issue on my OPO. It occurs with my handcent popups windows and I use TouchPal. It looks like its flickering back and forth between the on screen notification of incoming texts and the popup window. If I disabled the notifications, the popup window still flickers.
From the sounds of the above posts, its not limited to which keyboard or app popup but more likely the lollipop lockscreen.... (I am running latest CM12 nightly but its been happening ever since Ive gone to lollipop)
Cant wait until this problem is pinned down.
Hello everyone,
It has been a while since I ventured through this forum, but it seems that y'all may be my only hope.
I've been suffering through this glitch/stutter that, when scrolling, the phone registers my finger as taps everywhere my finger slides. All I simply need to do it remove my finger from the phone and I can continue scrolling like normal. It is super annoying and I cannot find out what causes it, it just seems random. It never happened on any of my Nexus phones in the past.
Now, here's a list of things I've tried in order to fix it:
- Safe mode
- Factory Reset (Restore from Google account)
- Factory Reset (New Device option)
- RMA'd through Google support and received a new pixel and the problem persists (even after going through the steps above on the new device)
Here is a short video of the glitch while it is happening.
https://goo.gl/photos/GysQXd82MexVkk836
(Hopefully that link works)
Note: the glitch will not stop until I take my finger off the phone, you can tell when it is happening when I scroll over the share button and it registers as a tap.
If you guys have any suggestions, I'm ready to try anything at this point. I don't want to go through Google support because I know they'll send me yet another Pixel (I've already talked to them again and that was their solution, I told them I'll try a few more things) and I feel like that is a waste. I'm almost 100% positive that this is a software glitch, not hardware.
Thanks!
Was that the Reddit app or a browser window? I'll try to reproduce if you can tell me exactly what you were running. I do not have that behavior in the XDA app as I try it right now.

Hey thanks for the response. I've gotten the glitch to happen all over. The Reddit app as you saw in the video, the chrome app, even scrolling through the list of apps in the stock pixel launcher. So I'm really not sure how to have you replicate the problem.
I'm thinking it is because certain settings in the settings app since Safe Mode disabled all third party apps when I tried that. I have night light enabled to turn on at dusk, I have ambient display off, auto brightness off, etc. Nothing too out of the ordinary.
I thought it may have been because I have location settings on high accuracy and when the phone pings for location maybe it bogs down the rest of my phone at that certain time but there's no way I can try and replicate that. It's a long shot anyway.

I just tried reproducing this by going to the app drawer and scrolling up and down while being sure my finger passed over both the home and app switcher buttons a good 50 or so times. The ONLY time the nav bar buttons were triggered were if my finger completely left the screen and went into the bezel - clearly that's not your problem. So I don't think I can reproduce the glitch.
If you think this is caused by your specific set of settings configured, you can always rule that out quickly with a factory reset. Just do a factory reset, set things up quickly, go ahead and login with your Gmail account so you can download some apps but do NOT change any non-basic settings. For example, go ahead and setup WiFi but do NOT change any display, input, or accessibility settings (especially the last thing there - the accessibility settings are often glitchy themselves). One setup, install a bunch more Google apps then try to reproduce the behavior again in the app drawer. If the behavior continues, then you may have a bad touchscreen sensor!
One last thing: Any chance you have really dry fingertips? Dry skin could always be your problem here!

I guess I'll try a factory reset and not mess with the settings although that kind of defeats the purpose of using this phone the way I want lol.
I'm not sure if this is caused by a bad touchscreen sensor because I've had the problem on two separate Pixel phones so far. Or maybe I just got super unlucky with two faulty phones.
I don't think my fingers are too dry. If all else fails, I'll try moisturizing them I guess. I've never had this problem on all my other phones though, but I guess you never know.
Thanks for the help.

I recently had a similar situation (different bad behavior) when helping my mother-in-law with a vision disability. Atrociously unacceptable performance, multiple phones. Turned out the triple-tap-to-zoom feature in the accessibility options was the culprit and disabling that one checkbox made all the difference.
I'm not necessarily suggesting you must use defaults forever, but if this is a setting of yours, let's first prove that it's a setting before going through the long process of finding out WHICH setting it is. Does that make sense? If we reset settings to defaults and it continues, no need to spend all that time - you've got a broker phone. If that does fix it, no need to return the phone, it's a buggy setting - let's find it to see if you can live without it one way or another. It may be a major deal breaker out it may be something you really don't care much about.
I think I get that issue now and again, usually whilst scrolling in chrome. I decided it was due to holding a finger on the screen just long enough (before starting to scroll) to register the press as a "select text" event.

Yeah that could be what causes it. Maybe it is just the way we are scrolling and how Google has calibrated the screen touch sensors.
Possible Fix
So I went into accessibility settings and changed the duration you need to hold your finger down to do a long press to medium (from the default as short). It seems that may have fixed it. I haven't experienced the glitch since I've done that change.
Here's to hoping that did indeed fix the issue.
Thanks everyone.
So far, my P7P has been problem free, barring a few minor niggles. Is it just me, or anyone else faced the same, found a fix etc? 100% factory stock, no root, mods etc
- can't quick reply from the notification panel.
If there's a message i can respond to and click reply, the type message bar appears, but the keyboard does not.
No problem clicking the notification to open the app and respond.
- Using gestures, pulling up from the bottom to bring up the recents switcher, the keyboard goes haywire, nonstop opening and closing.
- I've lived in my current home for about 3 years and worked in my office for about 8 years, and not had issues on my previous devices. I keep missing calls, and get notification SMS from my provider that I've missed calls. I see at least 5 or 6 of these daily, and never had this problem before. Even if I call from my wife's phone that's right next to mine, it won't connect and soon after, i get an SMS notification that I missed the call. Is this a radio issue? Software issue?
Thanks

Have you tried a factory reset?
Try wiping the data of your keyboard. Sounds like something may be up with it there
Has it always done that? Are you using GBoard beta or anything else? Could just be a certain update version as well.
As for the radio issues, no problem here where I live. I'd recommend trying a factory reset, or maybe even trying the Android Beta Program for a test drive.

2. must be a software problem with the keyboard. No problems here with stock or SwiftKey keyboard.
3. everything is the same as before. Signal and reception is comparable to my previous Xiaomi Phone

one more thing I have seen somebody posting here:
"I've found dialing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting all the network options has helped me. It was limited to only NR/LTE/TDWCDMA by default for some reason on the second beta. Haven't had an issue since doing that and updating sim manager."
Maybe try another setting like LTE only or similar.
Cleared data for keyboard as suggested by @Curiousn00b and the keyboard issue in recents screen are gone, however still can't respond in the notification panel.
Will try the beta with root as it seems only I have these issues

So I turned off Miui Optimization because I wanted the always on display to always been on (apparently if you disabled Miui Optimization, it wouldn't turn off after 10 seconds). It worked, but I lost some things like the haptic vibration or the Gaussian blur of the interface. I need help, I enabled Miui Optimization again but it didn't fix it (I restarted my cellphone more than 5 times). I don't know what to do and I'm not able to find a solution.

Did you able to find the solution for this issue? I got this issue two times and everytime I had to reset. Funny thing is that there was also a dark mode glitch as well. Although, everything gets normal while charging the phone... Seriously, MIUI is annoying as hell.

Yeah, I was able to find a solution for it. I suffered the same thing you have, phone was back to normal when I plugged the cable to charge it. I installed an app called "Hidden Settings (if you search it on the play store as "Hidden Settings Miui" it'll appear on there). Open the app and go to "hidden" at the bottom of the interface, then search for the battery options and its gonna be one of those 4 options.
In my case, the problem was with the second battery option. It was enabled and I had to disable it, then it started working like nothing happened.
I hope you can fix it, if you need help just answer this saying it.

tbh I didn't try it with the Miui optimization off, but I think that if you disable the battery optimizations I told you before; it should work fine even with Miui optimization turned off. You can try it, you do know how to fix those "bugs" if they happen again so you'll not lose anything.
