Need help recovering "wiped" data - General Questions and Answers

(Device : Mi 9t Pro @ Miui 12.5)
Today, when updating my magisk root from within the app, I checked the "recovery" box, and at the reboot it bricked my phone (Infinite startup screen)
Not knowing what to do and under the stress, I wiped data using TWRP ( I couldnt do anything else, TWRP was not able to decrypt data for idk what reason).
My phone succesfully booted but now I feel really dumb having wiped everything.
My internal storage screen still seems to recognize the old data (System is taking 125GB, my whole storage) and when opening file manager nothing loads (this two things make me hope I can still get the data back)
What do you guys think ?

Data wiping is just setting the space as unallocated, unless if its hard wiped (wich would have taken a lot more time that what it took I think). isnt there a tool to get it back by scrapping?

Oh, I forgot about that

Yes, is your device currently rooted? They are usually paid tools.

Yes it still is

So you can use a paid resource (check for free but costs money to extract) or you can try to find a free one

Link2SD completely messed up my phone

Alright guys I'm about to blow my top off here. The most recent Link2SD update completely messed up my entire phone.
For reference, I'm currently running an LG G3 D851 4.4.2, stock ROM and rooted. Everything was fine until recently when I started noticing a Play Store update app error "-110".
Not knowing what it was, I investigated, and found that my entire group of app installations have been completely screwed up.
1) First off, I can't install ANYTHING. No app, no nothing. I need to probably install an updated Link2SD to fix this nonsense...right? Can anyone direct me to how I would install the apk using ADB?
2) My mount script is broken and it's not working. It tells me "Mount script cannot be created. mount: Unknown error 150". As a result, my SD 2nd partition remains unmounted....which I think is the source of this entire problem.
3) Viewing my internal storage through DiskUsage, I've discovered that every single app I used to have installed has been "merged" into a single folder simply called "System data". Referenced through this photo here: http://i.imgur.com/ksukQGG.png . Instead of showing the individual folders, e.g.: Google Translate, Pocketcasts, etc, it just shows that big anonymous block of "System Data".
4) If I go to Settings -> Apps. Every single app shows up with "0.00b" as their app size.
HELPPPPP PLEASEEEE I will seriously monetarily tip someone if they can provide me with a solution to this.

Latest (free) Link2SD version
Latest Android Commander for Windows
Enable usb debugging in your phone's settings (Make sure you have the latest drivers for your phone installed)
Install Android Commander (AC)
Open AC while your device is connected
If your device is listed, press okay
On the right upper side in AC there is a option "Install"
Select the Link2SD APK (Try "update" if it doesn't work "normal insstallation"

Thank you so much for the detailed response. Unfortunately though, it looks like I already have the most recent version installed, 4.0.9? Would this solve anything by basically reinstalling it? I was hoping there would be like a 4.1 version that would fix the issue or revert changes or something.
Update:
Tried installing an app through ADB and it now shows me this:
WARNING: linker: app_process has text relocations. This is wasting memory and is a security risk. Please fix.
pkg: link2sd-4-0-8-multi-android.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INTERNAL_ERROR]
Any idea anybody? Like before, I'd be willing to donate to anybody who can provide me with the solution. Thanks!

Seems as you have 4.0.8 at the moment. 4.0.9 is the latest official and released 03/10/2015. By the way (most) people here won't help more willingly if your offer some bucks

Oh, I was trying to downgrade Link2SD in hopes that it would fix whatever happened with 4.0.9.
According to the about page in Link2SD, I currently have 4.0.9.
And haha thanks for the heads up...I'm really desperate though which is why I pulled that card out.

I can uninstall apps, but I can't install or update anything. That's why I was trying to install through adb instead, which unfortunately still doesn't work. When I open up Link2SD, it doesn't give me an option to reload, it only gives me the option to "Recreate mount scripts". If I click on it, it gives me the mount script error - "Mount script cannot be created. mount: Unknown error 150."

Is there any really important data on your installed apps? If I was you I would simply reflash the firmware and start from scratch instead of spending hours to find a solution. The point is that you don't know what you changed that your phone became like this. I have send a email to the Link2SD developer but I'm not sure if he can provide a solution.

I'm actually backing up all my app data as I'm typing this. The only concern I have though, is that my phone is actually on the stock recovery. I only rooted it because I didn't want to deal with the potential for something like this to happen (which would suck up all my time, haha). As a result, I can't flash anything. So if I decide to stock factory reset, would that clean the /system /data, and everything else that needs to be cleaned for my phone to work properly again? I thought that root (and potentially whatever screwed my phone) persisted through a stock factory reset, which would make trying to do that pointless.

I really don't know, if your root survives a factory reset. Probably it will. A custom recovery is really usefull as you can make complete nandroid backups

Well, I solved the mount problem by formatting my SD card. But that didn't fix anything else unfortunately.
I also noticed a couple interesting things:
1) Android and Link2SD show my data and cache for ALL apps to be 0.00b. I know that's not true because I went to the /data/data/app directories and found the data exists.
2) I can use all my apps normally with no problem. that means all the files are there, and can communicate correctly(?)
3) I still can't install any app at all.
Next course of action: Completely disable link2sd's boot script perhaps? So what would that entail, deleting install-recovery.sh from /system/etc/ ? Anything else, or would that be good enough?

Unable to create folder /data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS

I've read a few posts that seem similar but nothing too recent. I'm trying to backup what I have now so I can flash another ROM but it keeps failing. I even used es file manager with root and created the folder needed and gave it root permissions but it still fails in TWRP to backup.

Thanks guys, I was wondering about if I'm decrypted or not. How do I check? It's probably a dumb question =/. I ended up installing another ROM and it uses Magisk baked into it so I don't see an option for mount namespace separation. Maybe I can attempt to backup now just to see if it works with this ROM or maybe it's not decrypted still. For some odd reason it refused to let me install Facebook, or Facebook Messenger from the play store and one of my apps won't start. It just tries to start then crashes. I downloaded a couple "updates" from a site that says they are stock ROMs. "update_full_hw_usa.zip" is 544 mb and "update" is 1.72gb. I'm thinking of going back to stock but that would probably lock the bootloader and erase twrp right?
Edit: I tried to back up again but it does the same thing. I did notice it also says "failed to unmount /DATA". It might have said that before.
Edit: I see under security the encrypt phone section. At the bottom the "Encrypt Phone" button is faded out and above it I see "Charge your battery and try again" and "Plug in your charger and try again" so I'm not too sure but guessing that means I'm not encrypted but it is faded out so maybe it is?

Go to twrp, advanced, file manager. Browse to /data/app and see if you see normal folders or randomly named folders. If the latter you are encrypted.
Same if you tap install then try to install from internal sd.

Thank you. I should have checked that before I put another ROM. I did see randomly named folders when I connect it to my laptop but I can't remember when but I bet it was in that folder. I ended up within TWRP formatting data I think but it did have my type "yes" and said it would eliminate encryption, then I installed the new ROM. I should check and see if the new ROM has encryption. So far data on the root drive isn't encrypted and data in the android folder isnt' encrypted when I check with my laptop.
Edit: It's backing up so must not be encrypted. I check using the file manager in twrp and can see all the files in data. Thanks for you help. I guess if I had sensitive info on my phone then it would be something to do but I don't have a need to encrypt.

If you did format data again now, flash the data files supplied by your rom. (Public and Hw data) else you will have problems with themes and stuff.
If you didn't format data now, disregard this message

Do phone carriers have access to system files?

Good day to you all. i'm the owner of a virgin mobile venture phone. (version 2.3.5) i recently upgraded to a new device, but on the venture i have very important memos that are saved in the system folder called: "com.m7.juke.memo"
i tried to root on my own to gain access to that folder using "baiduroot" but supersu fails to install on all versions. im new to rooting so have no idea why it doesnt work.
i tried the fixes that i found online, like downloading the 2.79 version etc. but nothing works. i'm also confused on weather im actually rooted or not, because while an app in the play store called "fast root checker" says i am, many more apps including "root checker basic" says im not.
i'm a writer and my full manuscript is in that memo folder, and at this time an agent wants to see the full manuscript. so im really in a depressed/panic state right now.
i'm not tech savvy at all, and at this point i really dont have time to try to figure out how to get in that folder.
so what i want to know is: if this rooting thing doesnt work which it looks like it's not. then does the phone carrier have access to those system files incase of emergency?
at this time i dont have access to pc to try to root from there.
any help you can provide me will really be appreciated, thanks.
I don't really understand the problem. If you still have your old phone there should be no problems getting the data by just using that memo app, or what did I miss?

Thanks for your reply. Well actually the data is in a system file folder. It's a stock memo app that came preinstalled on the phone. And it has no backup or sync option. The phone doesn't either, its very old. Basically I actually had to do a factory reset last month because of a boot loop problem, and I was gonna try to use recovering software to try to recover the data, but after further investigation I found the memo app in the system folder and the date it shows on the app is the same date I made edits to my manuscript, so I figured it might be a chance it was never deleted. So I want to get in there and see if it was still there before using recovery software.
Oh ok, now I see your problem.
I'm sorry to say that all your work got wiped in the factory reset unless you can find it with some data rescue app. Unfortunately this will become very hard if the phone have also been used after that, cause there's a chance it's been overwritten.
You won't find any data in system partition. All app data, even for system apps is written to data partition because system is always read only unless you have root and change things in system.
A factory reset wipes data and cache, but does not touch system because it's never supposed to change (read only).
Sent from my Moto G5 using Tapatalk
O ok. Well if that's the case I hope you can help me figure out this root problem so I can try a couple of rescue apps. I rooted with baiduroot the other day, but SuperSU is not installing on my phone after. What could be the problem? I want to root so I can try a couple of Android based recovering apps. Of course I would just connect to PC and download a recovery app from there, but Unfortunately I don't have access to my PC right now, so I'm hoping to root and use an android based recovering app.

[Help] How do I recover permanently deleted files from Android Mobile phone?

Recently, I have permanently deleted files from my Android device after factory reset and I didn't take any backup. Is there have any possibility to recover my important data without having any backup?
Try EaseUS MobiSaver app.
You can definitely check the local backup of your phone if you have take backup regularly then, you have enabled to restore data from mobile. Sometimes, files have an automatic backup on Google account. So, you can check your Google backup. In case, if you didn't get back lost after the factory reset then, you may also try the Android data recovery tool. There is no guarantee for data recovery by using any program. But if it will possible to recover files then, it will show the preview of deleted data during the free trial edition.
To be honest, the chances of it would entirely depend on how long you have performed the factory reset. If it has not been so long, then you can actually get your data back. Pick a recovery tool that supports your device, it will let you preview the data and restore them.
Sorry for the delayed reply. For the ones who have the same problem, usually it's difficult to recover them back. You can ask for help from pro shop. Pro shop like Dr.fone, EaseUS MobiSaver, Coolmuster Lab.Fone for Android, etc. I am not sure they can work well or not. Before that, you need to stop using your phone. Cause data can not be recovered if they are overwritten by new data. And do remember to take backup of your phone usually. It's easy and safe.
I'm in the same seat and I also managed to flash an original rom on a Galaxy S8 on top of that.
Tried trial versions of all the mentioned and some others but they aren't able to detect anything relevant.
At the moment I'm wondering whether to take the loss or hand it in to a professional.
Can they do anything more that the different recovery softwares can't?
(I thought my phone was synced through a cloud app but it turns out it wasn't.)
I have used an app Named "DiskDigger" it worked perfect for me for recovering Pictures.

I just found this thread on google, I would like to know if anyone knows a way to recover a deleted application data folder inside the "Android/data" folder in the internal storage, either by adb, usb debugging or with some software since they are important data and I have not gotten any solution .
Thanks in advance.

I uninstalled Youtube Vanced. My phone won't turn on.

Hi. Since Youtube Vanced is installed as a system application on my MI 9T phone, it cannot be deleted directly. I also downloaded a program that removes System Application with Root from Play Store and removed vanced with this program. After the uninstallation was successful, I restarted the phone. However, after the phone stayed on the MI screen for 20 seconds, it restarted and switched to Fastboot mode. Every time I reboot, the phone goes into fastboot mode by waiting 20 seconds at the MI logo and restarting.
I have important information on the phone I need your help to somehow fix this problem instead of new software.

Dirty flashing (reflashing the same ROM or a newer version of it) doesn't usually cause your installed apps to get deleted. Is your phone able to boot now?
Backup the data partition from TWRP before you try anything else.

But I don't have any of my installed apps. The data of these applications was important to me.

That's because your system is unable to read the data partition.
Are you able to install new apps? Try installing an app that isn't already installed before this problem started. I want to see where the system saves the data for this app.
Take a backup of all your files before proceeding further.

I'm not clear on what you mean here. What is the free space you see when you are booted into System?
If Data partition is not accessible from System, how/ where is it installing apps?

I mean data. Pictures, music and other files. I couldn't notice it because it was uploaded late, but now I can see them in File Manager. My installed applications have been deleted. For example, the phone number I use in my Whatsapp account, the sim card is missing. If I install whatsapp now, it will not open because the code will not come.
By the way, I am writing with the help of translate. Excuse me if there is a mistake.
