[Help] How do I recover permanently deleted files from Android Mobile phone? - General Questions and Answers

Recently, I have permanently deleted files from my Android device after factory reset and I didn't take any backup. Is there have any possibility to recover my important data without having any backup?

Try EaseUS MobiSaver app.

You can definitely check the local backup of your phone if you have take backup regularly then, you have enabled to restore data from mobile. Sometimes, files have an automatic backup on Google account. So, you can check your Google backup. In case, if you didn't get back lost after the factory reset then, you may also try the Android data recovery tool. There is no guarantee for data recovery by using any program. But if it will possible to recover files then, it will show the preview of deleted data during the free trial edition.

To be honest, the chances of it would entirely depend on how long you have performed the factory reset. If it has not been so long, then you can actually get your data back. Pick a recovery tool that supports your device, it will let you preview the data and restore them.

Sorry for the delayed reply. For the ones who have the same problem, usually it's difficult to recover them back. You can ask for help from pro shop. Pro shop like Dr.fone, EaseUS MobiSaver, Coolmuster Lab.Fone for Android, etc. I am not sure they can work well or not. Before that, you need to stop using your phone. Cause data can not be recovered if they are overwritten by new data. And do remember to take backup of your phone usually. It's easy and safe.

I'm in the same seat and I also managed to flash an original rom on a Galaxy S8 on top of that.
Tried trial versions of all the mentioned and some others but they aren't able to detect anything relevant.
At the moment I'm wondering whether to take the loss or hand it in to a professional.
Can they do anything more that the different recovery softwares can't?
(I thought my phone was synced through a cloud app but it turns out it wasn't.)

I have used an app Named "DiskDigger" it worked perfect for me for recovering Pictures.
Have NonRoot-Method and Root Methood

Recovery Software for root content - /data/data after factory reset?

Hey guys, I've got a problem. I want to restore my com.whatsapp dir in /data/data/, is that possible somehow? Someone had a similar problem back in 2015 and it is said that he could not restore any, but I have software which backed up all videos and photos, but it didn't recover the files I wanted (because you only could choose things like: doc's, pics, movies etc).
Do you guys have an idea, please?
Or do you guys know how to verify whatsapp? I've been using my old number for 5 years now, 2-3 years ago I got a new sim card. Since then, I've always made a backup with titanium or took the backup from whatsapp itself and if you enter ur number and whatsapp recognized a backup, it didn't have to verify anymore. But it's been changed now somehow, they want to verify one's number and then it'll first try backing up (but I do not have that sim anymore). And unfortunately, titanium backup made a corrupt file exactly with the whatsapp file <_<
Thanks in Advance!
WhatsApp doesn't store your media (received images, videos, chat messages, etc.) in the com.whatsapp folder in /data/data, but it stores it in your internal sdcard itself in a folder named WhatsApp. Take that folder with you and put it in the new phone/tablet where you want to continue your WhatsApp usage.
Verification is straight-forward. All you have to do is do a fresh install of WhatsApp on this new phone/tab of yours and start it. If you had placed this backed-up WhatsApp folder on the internal sdcard of the new device, WhatsApp will ask you and automatically import this media on your new device.
Hope that helps.
Hello, thank you for your help.
As I said, I don't want the media, I want the data of whatsapp. I backed up all the media anyway and the recover programs only recovered the media, but I want to recover the whatsapp data.
"WhatsApp will ask you and automatically import this media on your new device."
That is how it used to be, I think they changed their system. You now first have to verify your number and afterwards, you're importing ur whatsapp backup folder. after verifying to another number (not the one I wanted) my old data has been backuped.

In that case, I don't think its going to be easy to retrieve the old chat contents easily unless you have WhatsApp running on your older device. If you have it running on the older device by any chance, you can refer to this manual and create a Chat Backup to your Google Drive, so that later you can restore it from Google Drive on your new phone/tablet. I suppose this is the only way to create WhatsApp chat backups going forward.
Well, I flashed another rom, so I don't got any possibility to return to that version. That's why I ask for an recovery software which also can recover root files. I didn't think it would be so hard to find, because there are some which recovery plenty of other files, I just needed one which includes /data/data folder AND any files, no matter which ending they have (like *.*, where * is a wildcard for any matches), so I hoped someone of you would know any software?

What software did you originally use to take the backup? If it was Titanuium Backup, then what went wrong while restoration?
In case you have the actual file system backup of /data/data/com.whatsapp, you can directly try pasting that folder in the new setup using Root Explorer (or similar app) and see whether it works. But of course, you'll need to be rooted on your new setup.

[ROOT NEEDED]
Maybe GT recovery is the app you are looking for. Basically this app recovers your lost data even after a hard reset by exploiting some resources in the root directory. By this app you can recover the whole folder of your WhatsApp. Just type in the full directory path in the app.
May this help you.
Unfortunately, the exactly the whatsapp backup is a corrupted .rar file, only has 0.0 kb data... @tiger1487 I got root on my phone, but the problem with GT recovery is, that you need the paid version for using it. But tbh, I'm not willing to pay 15e to try if it eventually could recover my needed data, so I'd ask you, if you know another software which is similar to this one? I can't search for one unfortunately, because if you google for it, you just get some to backup a factory image via cwm or twrp or something :x

I am a new member so i cant send you the link of the all free GT recovery but i can tell you that just type 'GT recovery cracked' in the google search engine. You will get it for free[Tip: If you type 'cracked' in front of any app name on google search, you will get it for free, just look for some trusted website like 'onhax' or 'okhax' or 'crackedapkfull']

And I forgot to tell that GT recovery is now more updated. Now there is no need to type in the exact path. There is a direct option for Recover WhatsApp. Likewise there are other options too for messenger, call logs, etc if you need it?

Oh, you were talking of the app, thought of the windows software. The app itself is free, isn't it? I tried the app, it stucks at 0% scanning and I don't think it'll work. Tried different apps, it seems they're only looking for sdcard/whatsapp/database instead of data/data/com.whatsapp so it would be awesome if I could set a path
Thank you very much for your help.

Yes its free...windows version is paid but my app doesn't stuck. Mine one is working perfectly. See that you try some other older versions of the app too. Maybe you downloaded the version that stucks at 0% or something like that.

Sorry for answering late :x
Okay, it seems that my root was broken somehow, but now as it works, the program tells me I am not rooted (now I am for sure!) and wants me to download Kingo root or something. But anyway, I had GBWhatsapp installed on my phone, so I think the app won't help me because it would search for com.whatsapp instead of com.gbwhatsapp (could that be possible?)
I found the app Undeleter, this has some more path search options but unfortunately not one where I can specify my desired path. So, I hope you got one last idea?

How to backup my son's user data from our unrooted tablet where i am device owner

I'm trying to ensure my son's game and app data can be backed up from a tablet we both use so I can flash a rom (or even move to a new device). I am the owner of the tablet. He is connected to my google account with google family link. I have access to all passwords and pins. Device is not rooted.
As far as I can tell, I can't root the device without a factory reset (an older lenovo tablet, though I believe my overall goal is independent of device brand and model). That would obviously cost him his data. I can't use google's native backup and restore functionality I believe (as I think only the device owner can use that). I can't make him the device owner, without a factory reset (again, costing him his data). I can't get his data with titanium backup I believe (which i've used for myself in the past), since the device isn't rooted.
I'd appreciate any help on this. I've searched fruitlessly for quite some time.
Thanks!
You need to start mobile in recovery mode. You need sd card on mobile.
You will get option backup user data under recovery mode.
Those data backup on sd card.

Thanks for the reply. It's just a stock tablet, no recovery is flashed yet (I'm assuming a recovery would wipe data for my device but I'll take a look) Or perhaps you are implying a stock recovery, which I'll check if one exists (android 7.x)

Ever since Android OS first saw the light of day, an Android device by default has had Stock Rcovery, unless it gets removed from device.
Hint: Use ADB to backup / restore apps & their data.

Use volume and power button to start mobile in recovery mode. Then you will get option of backup user data.
simple use adb its reliable fast and safest method you can use. even if you are new to this thing you just need a computer and copy paste commands from google to backup/restore app data.
Thank you all! I'm on it. Now, onto the fun of old products and adb/usb drivers.

How to recover music files

Hi,
I deleted a large music file and have tried various ways to recover it. I have a G7 Optimo, unrooted. I have the backup function turned on, but don't know if I need to restore the phone to it's original mode to access the backup on Google. Does anyone know if this is what I have to do, or is there an easier way?
Thanks!
If you tried to use data recovery software to help you recover the deleted music file back without backup, you need to root your phone before using it, such as Dr.fone, Coolmuster Lab.Fone for Android, phonerescue, etc. If you are not good at that, maybe you can ask for help from pro shop. Good luck to you.

Wiped data only can get recovered - if they didn't get overwritten in the meantime - if phone's Android is rooted and you know of digital-forensic softwares what completely can restore the files: just successfully having pulled out of phone the bitwise-copies of the files in question may not help you at all.

I use one of those to unroot the phone, but still can't seem to find them. Doesn't Google store all of my music and contacts if I've got the backup function on? I have Google Drive on my phone, but it ony shows 250 songs when I checked it. I had 1000ish loaded, why aren't the rest showing up in Google Drive? Also, what if I do a factory reset? Last two phones I bought had my music and contacts on them after I set them up. I don't have much on my phone, so don't care if I have to do that. Thanks!
If you have the backup function turned on, it will back up your files automatically. Check around to see if there are any music backup files.

Question How do I migrate to this device?

Time to retire my trusty LG G8. LG's mobile switch app has had me seamlessly moving from the last 3-4 LG phones i've had previously. Not gonna work this time. Unless I'm using it wrong, the Samsung Smart Switch isnt moving app data, neither is adb backup + restore (did move my wallpaper tho, so thats a plus) even tried the paid version of wondershare mobiletranspro to no avail. Neither device is rooted.
So my question, can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong with the methods I mentioned above? Is there a different tool I should be using? Or am I SOL?

adb backup was started to be fazed out in android 10 its now removed from almost all versions of android 12, is your lg rooted ?you could back up with titanium or other app, and restore to a rooted s22 , the only other option which is less reliable is what google replaced adb back up with, google drive/one backup, and restore that way, you could also try using app2sd on your lg and backing up your data to it that way and trying to restore it that way,
when using smart switch did you try backing up data to external sd and restoring from ext sd ?
What app data do need migrated? Can you use each apps bult in backups, if they have it, like whatsup
smart switch only gives the option to use a cable or wireless, no SD card, even on the LG. neither device is rooted, but im wondering if i could take LG backup of the G8, root both phones, restore data to G8 via the LG app, then use the tools available to rooted phones to move it all over. seems overly complicated, but i dont know if theres a better option

oh yes sorry, its samsung backup that gives the ext option
titanium backup would be your best bet (or similar) if your willing to root both devices, and set tb back up to back up to the cloud and dl to s22 ultra to save messing with cables and youll also have it safe on the cloud
I recently retired my LG G7. All of the data was backed up to my PC. When setting up my Ultra I installed the apps from the Play store. I then transfer images, audio etc. from the PC to the phone.
It's the only way to do it if you want to avoid issues. Clean installs are the best installs.

I connect the old phone to my PC and copy all of the files to a new folder.
Then I connect the new phone to the PC and transfer my files over to the appropriate folders in the phone. Basically cut and paste.
LG also lets you backup files to to the micro SD from settings. Then you can plug that into the PC and grab them from there.

Need help restoring phone after reset. Reset went fine, but didn't restore. (Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017)

[Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) Android OS 8.0]
Hi, I backed up my phone to both Samsung backup and to Google Drive. I did a factory reset but it never restored. I was about to leave on a cruise and was kind of SOL.
The Samsung backup seems to be toast. Unless it keeps old backups and there's a way to access then, that way won't work as it's overwritten the backup with the newly reset phone.
I also backed up to Google Drive. I can even look at the files in the drive and there are 2 files that start with "takeout" and if you open them you see android files inside.
I just don't know how to restore from these. The file has the date on it, which is 2022, which is before my cruise. (Why am I so late asking? Caught covy and then got long haul..)
All I really care about is my text messages. My contacts would be great too, but I may have that on my PC. If the Google Drive backup doesn't work out I did save a bunch of my phones data to my PC manually. I know much of the OS folders show 0 files, but in some cases if I dug through some of the folders I would find files. I just have no idea if one of them would be my text messages.
I don't really understand what it is that I'm not getting. The instructions say to just go to the backup and click on it to restore it. Uhh no, that isn't working. :/
Thanks, I really hope I'm not SOL here.
A Factory Reset ( AKA Hard Reset ) only affects user data ( included apps ) , means all those added to phone since its 1st startup gets deleted / removed. That always works well on all Android phones.
Wondering why you want to play back the bad backups made?
I really only need the text messages and the contacts if I don't actually have a csv (sp?) file of them.
For the backup, I told it not to save the photos or programs. I have a list of the apps I didn't uninstall, and the photos on my PC. I think the reset, plus no apps saved will fix things.
Can I just restore the texts? Or, is it possible that one of the files I saved has them?
Thanks

Do you know I would be able to do what I mentioned in the post above this one? Still stuck.
Thanks
Hi, sorry to post again but I'm hoping the forum tells you that I'm replying to your message as I can't DM you.
[Added info] As I said above, I didn't backup the apps, just the texts and such, so a reset and restore should help. Even if it doesn't at least I can save the texts and contact list.
I still haven't found a solution to this. The Google app shows a restore that's also after the reset, BUT, I also have what is clearly a restore from before the reset. I don't care what jankcraft magic I have to do. How can I restore to that restore point? I have a copy on my PC. Can I tell the phone that I'm transferring data from a different phone on to this phone? Same phone of course.
The file on Google Drive starts with the word takeout and then has the date and time and is in a zip.
Nobody is posting any response to this but you, and someone else who pointed me to this section of XDA.
[Minor Edit] The files are "takeout1" and takeout2" with the date and times after them. The "takeout2" is the one from after the reset. Takeout1 is from before. If I delete "takeout2" will Google Restore see "takeout1?"
I'm dying here.
Thanks
DM
