I am using Galaxy watch since long (gear1, S2 and S3) and it was easy to make watch face backup with Samsung cloud backup utilty. Y'day I have bought GW4 (lte) and found here on XDA search that samsung cloud no more backup third party app and watch faces. It's a pain to individually download from play store everytime.
Today while exploring watch, I have found an option to make backup over Sasung smart switch so thought to give that a try! Surprisingly it can backup watch faces too.
Some limitation there for non rooted phone users though. As smart switch on phone saves backup to Android/data/*smartSwitch-packagename*/ and you needs to have root access to use this directory.
Root usesr (only rooted phone requires no needs to root watch) can make backup of Smart Switch with some backup utility like I am using SwiftBackup and make backup of App+data+Ext Data (Ext data backup includes backup of watch faces and other settings of watch)
You can anytime restore this to device and later to watch.
Here guide how to backup & restore (Apps/Settings/Watch Faces etc) on Watch 4/5 (Wear OS)
• While your Watch is connected to device - Open Galaxy wear app in phone - watch settings - Account & Backup - Smart Switch Backup
• Make backup of desired things
• Once it is completed, use SwiftBackup and make Backup of Smart Switch (App+data+Ext data)
• Now whenever you factory reset device & watch, Simply connect your watch to device → Restore Smart switch from Swift Backup (App+data+Ext data) → From wear app Watch settings → Acc & Backup → Smart Switch → Restore → select desired stuff you want to restore and you will have all apps,Watch faces etc get restored.

Okay, so as i have often had to reset the watch during testing this and that, and since i have a few apks that arent on the Google Play store, i wanted a quick easy way to backup the 3rd party apks on my watch, and to also have a quick easy way...

i got tired of installing software and apps and decided to use the simplicity of adb and batch files, i think its compact as you can make it...theres almost more comments than code...
Also respect, your name is well known going back a long time!

Good to know.
But I think if phone is rooted, Smart Switch + Swift Backup is far better and easier solution. Main benefit is no PC requires so you can do it anytime anywhere with just couple of clicks.
This is indeed quite useful and Dr.ketan proves again, that he is a person, who is always eager to contribute to everybody here.

Really weird
Here it is. May be try after logging in with samsung & Google Ac
Cannot backup Watchfaces made on WatchFaceStudio on PC and loaded to the phone.
Tested backup from Watch 4 to -> Watch 5 and vice versa.
Ended up manually loading all GWD files again.
I suspect this is only available on Samsung phones, as it isn't showing up on my Poco F4 as well

App Eater: A highly functional uninstaller with incredibly useful home screen widgets

}
App Eater (Uninstaller) lets you remove unwanted apps right from your home screen, in addition to being a fully functional standalone uninstaller.
Using the widgets, you can uninstall the following without even entering the app:
Last installed app
Last updated app
Most recently used app
Each widget shows the icon of the app you will be uninstalling as well, to make it even more intuitive. Take a look at the screenshots to see what I mean.
Additionally, App Eater is an extremely capable standalone uninstaller, with features including:
Easy access to last installed, last updated, and most recently used apps
List mode to show all apps (including non-application packages like widgets)
Batch uninstall
Silent batch uninstall (rooted devices only- this is an Android limitation)
Uninstall history
Option to show system apps
System app uninstall (rooted devices only- this is an Android limitation)
Disable apps (rooted devices only- this is an Android limitation)
Clear app data and cache (rooted devices only- this is an Android limitation)
Ability to lock apps to prevent their removal from within App Eater or the widgets
Sort by name, install date, update date, size, system/user installed, recently used, disabled/enabled status, and locked status
Reverse sort order
Search all apps for a specific string
Long press to open app, open app info, open Play Store listing, or share app
System storage info displayed
Show app version option
"Apps Eaten" counter to track number of uninstalls with app
More features coming soon!
I want App Eater to replace whatever uninstaller you are using now. Its widget functionality doesn't exist in any other app, and I intend for the standalone uninstaller to be the absolute best in the Play Store. More features are coming soon, but please let me know if you want anything in particular. Thanks, and enjoy!
Screenshots:
I've uploaded the APK for those who prefer to install manually. Thanks, and enjoy!
I have added a first-time start-up tutorial for those who didn't quite understand certain features like app locking. Enjoy!
Does this app can uninstall the app/s completely include cache, data & so on?
Thank you. Will try it out.
Features l like to see!!
Look great app features l like to see!!:good:
- Apps freezer
- Uninstall system applications
- Backup date/system apps+data apk to sdcard
- Restore backed up applications
- Sync to/from Dropbox
An article I read said this can remove bloat ware system apps, insinuating without root. Is this right ? Thought that would be impossible

The way it works (as do most uninstallers) is that the app tells the system it wants to uninstall an app. Then the system then takes over (displays the "OK/Cancel" dialog and actually uninstalls it.
If I have an app that has data or cache, and I uninstall it and reinstall it, then all the data and cache seems to be gone. I have only tested this on a handful of apps, so there might be some that are not cleared. If you have any examples, I will be glad to take a look.
I am planning on adding rooted uninstall features (which removes the app manually), and I will look into having this as an option. Thanks for your interest!

I will look into freezing apps. I've never used it, but it seems like a good feature to have.
You can only uninstall system apps if you are rooted. I am currently working on this functionality.
I'm not sure that I want to add backup/cloud functionality, as it seems somewhat tangential to uninstalling apps. There are some power-user apps that can already do that, as others have mentioned. If demand is high, I'll look into it.
I am also planning on adding a feature that will keep a list of your uninstalled apps, and direct you back to the Play Store to reinstall them if you change your mind.
Thanks for the feedback!

I have an app that need special attention, it is picarts photo studio. I have uninstalled it (with built-in uninstaller), but it still leave garbage file in /sdcard.

I tried it out and I see what you mean now. Unfortunately, this is just bad design on the part of the makers of PicsArt. There is a way for apps to use a private file directory that will be deleted automatically when the app is uninstalled, but instead PicsArt opted to use the general sdcard storage, which is not tied to any app. For example, if an app writes to a folder called "Pictures," it's probably not a good idea to delete it when the app is uninstalled, since other apps might use the same folder. Trying to solve this problem would likely open up a whole mess of potential issues that I think the general user shouldn't have to deal with, so I don't think App Eater is the right place for it.
I found an app called SD Maid which can find folders that aren't needed anymore, but it was not able to automatically detect this one in particular. Maybe you'll find it useful, though.
The internal "data" and "cache" for the app does get cleared using App Eater, though. You can see this by checking Settings>Apps>PicsArt after reinstalling and before opening the app.

Oh ok, so its from the developers, and picarts has designed to doesnt delete internal data even it has been uninstalled.
I have used it, but sometime detects false positive. Probably still use old database.

OK, I understand now. Reading your post again, I wonder if you meant the actual app icon, and not the widget design. I will look into allowing for alternative app icons (I don't know if this is technically possible from within the app), but I am hesitant to change the icon design outright, since as the app grows in popularity it's important to maintain familiarity.
I will definitely look into alternative widget designs, though, if that's what you meant.
Thanks!
for various reasons I have had to reset already couple of times my GW4 and i find it very frustrating that the backup solution is only partial - the watch backs up (apparently to google and not to samsung cloud) only some settings, messages etc but not the apps, so each time I have to start from zero with reinstalling all my apps.
anyone has a better /full backup and restore solution?
with my previous GW3 I was able to restore almost 1:1 everything including apps. ..
Welcome to basic Android wear os......... Yay

I didn't think not backing up the apps would be so bad, as most should be on the phone, and you just need to reinstall the watch version - but it's a pain, and time-consuming compared to a proper restore. It's the watch faces that really shocked me, as they weren't even there in the Galaxy Wearable app, and the Play store doesn't show them - I had to search for them and download each one again! Unbelievable...

I traded my wife's note10+ and bought flip 3 with the hope that esim will work (box has 2 imei printed) and newer phone, despite lose of sdcard/stylus. esim is not going to be enabled anytime soon, now i understood.
question: before trade in, i did a samsung backup (as i do all the time in the past). But on flip 3, there is no option in the samsung member settings to do restore (or backup), like in the past.
Samsung stopped their backup/restore via their cloud? or did i miss something?
The backup and restore feature is definitely available on the Z Flip 3. I am not sure why you are trying to access it via the Members App, but you'll find it in Settings/Accounts and Backup/Samsung CLoud Backup. You could also use Samsung Smart Switch when changing to a new phone. Pretty easy to do.

Greetings,
I am enjoying my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The watch was a gift from my wife because she knew I wanted one just for the fun of a new device, but because I did not need one (disabled, unemployed, socially disconnected for the most part) I would not purchase it myself. The only reason I would consider buying the device was for blood pressure monitoring and to remind me to take my medication, and becuase I live in the US the former feature was disabled. Now thanks to @Dante63 my watch is worth the price, and is assisting myself and my doctor in adjusting my medication.
Now that you have all that information you do not care about, I have a list of things I wish the watch could do that I do not think it can. Perhaps someone could tell me if I am missing workarounds/hacks/etc. for any of the following?
Podcasts: I like the Google Podcasts app on my Galaxy S20 FE 5G phone, but I cannot find a way to get episodes onto the watch. I found a file manager (Cx File Explorer) on the Play store that allows me to view the downloaded podcasts on the SD card in Android > Data > com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox > files > Podcasts, but asside from manually copying them to the directory that gets synced with the GW4C in the Galaxy Wearable app, I cannot find a way to make this seamless. I looked at IFTTT, but it does not seem to have the neccessary tools to copy/move a file from one directory to another on my Android phone. I can use Spotify for podcasts, but I do not have a Premium account, and I prefer the Google Podcasts app. I pay for commercial free YouTube as I watch many hours of long form educational videos and it comes with YouTube Music so I am not interesed in paying for Spotify. In either case (or even that of an alternative podcast app...which I am willing to consider if it is really good) it leads to my second item on the wishlist....
Is there a way to make podcasts and audio books play through the speaker on the watch? I cannot see the point of listening to music that way, but for spoken word it would be great.
Speaking of audio books, is there a way to get Audible audio books onto the Galaxy Watch 4? What about some alternative such as Librivox?
Maybe I am just asking more of the device that it can deliver. Once again, thansks to @Dante63 I would purchase the watch again as it now has meaningful function for a disabled individual that does not have lots of todos or meetings etc. Still, now that I have enjoyed the health benefits I would like to squeeze more out of it if possible.
Any help/direction/suggestions in any or all of these areas is appreciated!

I believe there is youtube and youtube music for the watch4...
But I'm not sure about podcasts and audio books ...
Ps. You're most welcome for SHM MOD...
You can automate folder sync using mixplorer on your phone apparently like this:
Settings - Auto Task - New Task
Enter title
Select Move and Replace options respectively
Enable the Regex option
In Files enter path/to/your/folder/.*
Enter destination/path/folder in To
Set Trigger and Interval
Hit Save
You can set it up to sync with the your music folder and then play said podcasts through the music app on your watch
As for installing those apps on your watch you probably could via adb but they'd probably be useless because they are not setup to be used on such a small screen, even if you adjust dpi on your watch using adb elements would probably be off screen. I cannot say this for sure, as I've never actually used any of those apps.

Not recommended to have the phone app, they won't be UI friendly and if they crash in background, you will have serious battery drain, and dpi change will affect all apps on the watch...
As for auto-sync, the watch already have such feature that doesn't affect the battery...

Not recommended to have the phone app, they won't be UI friendly and if they crash in background, you will have serious battery drain, and dpi change will affect all apps on the watch...
As for auto-sync, the watch already have such feature that doesn't affect the battery...

I wasn't recommending using any phone apps on the watch either, just for the record. I was actually recommending against that as well. It sounded like he had already figured out how to sync the files to his watch, I was just trying to help him automate the file moving process on his phone, so that his downloaded podcasts automatically moved to the folder that syncs to his watch.

No worries.
Hello community!
In this post, I am giving you info on some aspects of Wear OS, which you may or may not know. All the details presented are based on my experience with Samsung Galaxy Watch4 (WiFi model), running on Wear OS 3.x. So they may not be representative of all the watches (and those that run on custom software like Tizen) in the market.
Let's begin:
01. You can sideload phone apps on the Watch using ADB. There are good tutorials on the internet that explain how to go about it. If the UI on the app is difficult to use, you may be able to make it usable by reducing the DPI of your watch. Again, there are good tutorials available for this on the internet. It is advisable that you restore the DPI to its default values after setting up the apps to prevent unexpected behaviour or other problems.
02. There is no support for VPN service on Wear OS. So you can't run Android Firewall apps like Netguard, Karma Firewall, etc.
03. There is no App Info page in the watch for installed apps. This means you can't delete cache or data for apps. You can only install or uninstall apps, just like in iOS. However, the app info page is available on the Galaxy Wear app (for Samsung Galaxy Watch) that will show the storage used, battery consumed, memory occupied for each app. It will also allow for force stopping and uninstalling apps on the watch from this screen.
04. You can backup your watch faces and other apps installed from Play Store (or other official stores like Galaxy Store) using an Android File Manager that supports APK backups. There is no built-in support for this though.
05. As with Android, there is NO support for backing up app data, or the configurations of watch faces. The built-in backup feature is very limited in what it does, so don't expect that you'll be able to simply restore everything after a factory reset. This is one area where iOS and WatchOS are clear winners.
06. If you reset the network settings on your phone, you'll have to factory reset your watch to pair it with your phone again. Apparently, this is for security (of your data) purposes.
07. If you are using a Samsung Galaxy watch running on Wear OS, then the Galaxy Watch Manager app on your phone is very crucial, and holds your watch's pairing key. If you delete this app's data on your phone or uninstall it, you'll have to factory reset your watch to pair it with your phone again.
08. Your watch can actually play videos, stream media, act like a FTP server, and do a few more things if you install (sideload) the right apps. I wouldn't recommend doing that regularly because the watch hardware is not designed to do these things, so you'll really be pushing the hardware if you use your watch for such activities for extended periods.
09. Unlike your phone, the displays used on smartwatches are prone to screen burn-in, especially because most of the watch faces do not offer a proper AOD feature that minimizes this risk. So choosing the right watch face is very important. Alternatively, keep changing the watch face every day or so.
10. AOD works only when you are wearing your watch. This is a good thing because it not only preserves battery, but also helps reduce screen burn-in.
