Question backup and restore - Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

for various reasons I have had to reset already couple of times my GW4 and i find it very frustrating that the backup solution is only partial - the watch backs up (apparently to google and not to samsung cloud) only some settings, messages etc but not the apps, so each time I have to start from zero with reinstalling all my apps.
anyone has a better /full backup and restore solution?
with my previous GW3 I was able to restore almost 1:1 everything including apps. ..

Welcome to basic Android wear os......... Yay

What really shocked me was the fact all my purchases watch faces disappeared - and didn't even show up in the Galaxy Wearable app to be reloaded! Had to install them all again - really not impressed.

I didn't think not backing up the apps would be so bad, as most should be on the phone, and you just need to reinstall the watch version - but it's a pain, and time-consuming compared to a proper restore. It's the watch faces that really shocked me, as they weren't even there in the Galaxy Wearable app, and the Play store doesn't show them - I had to search for them and download each one again! Unbelievable...

Looks like the new DUJA update supports the backup of watch faces and their settings - check out that thread...

[Q] Restoring free apps automatically in Google Market after reset

I just wiped my TF101 more or less voluntarily... I have witnessed before that in Google market only my PAID apps seem to be restored automatically; is there any way to also get the free apps at least listed? I always forget which apps I had installed
Thanks everyone! Even a pointer to other threads is appreciated since I couldn't find anything.
EDIT: It is especially annoying for programs like ROM Manager and Documents To Go where the free version is required before the (paid) key can be used
Well if you use Titanium backup you can backup all your apps so when you wipe your device you can restore them all quickly and easily.
I dont use Google to backup my apps, much easier to use Titanium.
One other app that is really good is Mybackup you can backup your apps that way as well along with many other features but most are really designed for a phone.
Hope that helps

Yeah, I know. I have Ti Backup but as I stated in my post I wiped more or less voluntarily... That's why I was wondering if there is some kind of Google magic that can be used as a backup-backup So basically it was my fault to not make a Ti Backup first. Luckily, I don't have any important data on the TF!
For me it restores all my downloaded apps automatically by default, weird.
if you log onto market. android.com go under my market account and that lists everyapp you ever downloaded.

I also found an app called AppBrain App Market which apparently also stores the installed app information and can be used to sync with any given device. It's got really good reviews and is free
EDIT: I think I know what might be the reason that I do not get the free apps. When I click on the apps in market.google.com they show up as "installed" although they are not! Either I am missing a setting or it's a bug in the system!

apps didn't sync

Coming from turbo and none of my play store apps downloaded...is this normal?
honestly its probably a good thing. i have found my devices to work much better when i chose to fresh install everything versus restoring from backup from Google. with root products like Titanium i would restore but not with Play.
if you really want it you could try a factory reset then restore.

When you restore apps with Google, it just re-downloads the apps. Titanium Backup is what you need to be cautious of when restoring apps, as some apps have different versions depending on the OS you are on.

well i have had it happen to me once and several people i know have had it happen where there are issues with the Play store when restoring from Play and a factory reset is the only thing that fixes it. i have never had that issue with titanium. in the end fresh is always best to me
i just setup my s6 edge from scratch

I normally do the same as well, I cancel the auto restore and just search for the apps I want and re-download them. Many of the apps it tries to restore are ones I've since deleted anyways.
learn something new everyday...if you click the "all" tab under my apps, it lists ALL of the apps you've ever owned. can multi-select them and install all at one time. Easy peazy. Some of those I had forgotten about

My wife and I each got an S6. My phone never asked me to sign in to Google while setting it up and the apps had to be manually reinstalled. Her phone asked for the Google account on startup and synced just fine. There are definitely some subtle differenced in the phones. Her phone had apps grouped into folders in her app drawer. Mine did not. She has a white 32gb and I have the black 32gb.

Full app-data transfer or backup

I know this is a tired topic, and it seems without legit root + TB that it really isn't doable...still, I'm very curious if there are strides made that maybe I'm not aware of. All of my searches, regardless of device, seem to be more or less the same; you can get a good chunk between apps like Helium, SmartSwitch, and ADB backups, but none of those will be all-inclusive or really even close to that.
For those seasoned in this, is this just the status-quo at this point? Devs, is it safe to assume that without root, one simply cannot backup app data verbatim?
I ask for the obvious reason: I don't necessarily recall every user ID and password, all settings, etc that I set up for a given app. Especially with the introduction of finerprint readers. I seldom have to type in passwords anymore, between saved credentials in Chrome and established logins on individual apps.
I'm really hoping it isn't a far stretch to find a way to transfer, if not backup this data completely.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup
Works on majority of apps, make sure its set to app data only, otherwise it won't backup. If it nags about some desktop password remove pin/pattern or any other screen locks.
If you want to backup sms/mms/call logs use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackup

I've used Helium in the past, and it wasn't all-inclusive. If I do app-data only, will it backup app data that includes login info and whatever settings I've configured per app?
You really don't have much choice, this is the only app that can backup data, you can try smart switch but I didn't have much luck with it. Just try it and hope for the best.

Are you coming from a non samsung phone? When I had to return my 1st Note 7 I backed it up to the samsung cloud and when I received the 2nd Note 7 I restored from the cloud and it did the screens, apps, data and everything. I was surprised and also happy with it.
I currently have the S7 Edge. Samsung cloud is enabled on it. I sincerely can't be the only one who is looking for this ability without root though.
Im also searching, but for per app as helium doesnt work for me

I can't remember as it's been well over a year. If you have Samsung Pass on your phone and you back it up I would think it would log you in to your individual apps.

Question How to backup Watch4 app data and downloaded watch faces?

Hello community!
The built-in backup feature is extremely limited, and almost useless because it essentially backs-up only the Quick Settings screen and a handful of other Settings.
All downloaded watch faces as well as other apps (and app data) are excluded from the backup.
I have sideloaded this File Manager using EasyFireTools.
File Manager - Apps on Google Play
Fast, easy-to-use and full-featured file manager app with cloud integration.
play.google.com
This file manager allows me backup all apks, as well as connect to my phone and PC wirelessly over the network.
But the main issue is app data. None of the watch faces come with a configuration file that can be exported/ imported, so every watch face has to be setup from scratch each time.
Is there a simpler way to backup watch face configurations as well as other Apps'data?
Thanks.

I use thema watch faces (for example I use this Chrono) and it comes with a partner app on your phone to customize more settings and it has a built-in setting saver. While not all watch faces have this, it is amazing and thema has a ton available on the playstore. They're all free with limited options but the settings save options are free and a single iap for unlocking all options.

I have seen some of the watch faces from thema and others like RichFace, whose phone apps look similar.
Most of the features are locked behind a paywall. Does one have to buy each feature separately or buying once unlocks all features?
On the Play Store, they say x dollars per item. So not sure what exactly that means.
It is per watchface for thema unfortunately. But it's not unreasonable to me. Less than $2 and I use Google opinion rewards and I get $2 worth of credits in less than a month for Google play so like I said imo I don't think it's much.

Sure, the payment for each watch face is separate. That is obvious.
My question is regarding features inside each watch face. For example, weather update, Google Fit integration, Samsung Health integration, AOD customisations, etc. are all locked behind a paywall.
Is the payment for each of these features separate, or just a single payment is required to unlock all premium features inside the watch face?
The 'Buy premium' option is shown separately against each of the premium feature. That is what is confusing. Does the 'Buy premium' unlock all premium features inside the watch face, or just that particular feature?

They should make that clear on the store description. They say x dollars per item, hence the confusion.
Thanks for clarifying this.

Watch faces from RichFace, Thema, and others have pretty much everything locked behind a paywall. There is no way to test and see how the watch face would look after the user configures it the way he likes.
Going through the refund process of in-app purchase is a pain. Plus there are often licence verification issues on devices with multiple Google accounts.
I would rather install a paid app, see how it looks, and opt for refund with a single click if I don't like it.

That's pathetic despite Android now being over 12 years old in commercial business. This is one area where Apple products are clear winners. They allow you to backup ALL app data, even if not the app themselves.
With Wear OS, the backup doesn't even include the downloaded watch faces themselves. One can't even unpair the watch without factory resetting it. When there are such limitations, the backup should be more elaborate and include the app data, including for downloaded apps and watch faces.

I've been trying to find any useful information on trying to backup my Facer and WatchMaker face files to a microSd card because faces on the app I've download seem to dissappear. If I've paid for a membership I'd think I'd have the right to back them up but I haven't been able to find anything. Searching through my file manager trying to even find anything resembling watch faces or the apps themselves is like looking for a UFO at Walmart. What the heck. There has to be a way to back them up. Anyone?
According to some info people gleemed in the files in a recent Google play services update, Google is working on a more thorough backup feature for wear os but I wouldn't count on it to backup everything
I am also now trying to find this, because I had purchased watch faces that for some reason unknown have now been removed from the playstore after being there for years, I wasn't expecting to loose a number of my watch faces, wouldn't have cared so much if they were free the face was from watchfacestudio com.watchfacestudio.tagcarrera. I have now purchased another however I am worried that this will get pulled as well, and no backup.
Does anyone know any ADB or ROOT methods to backup securely these faces?
Do they work like an apk following these methods?

As mentioned in the OP, you can install the file manager linked there and backup the watch faces you want, just as would backup any app on the phone. If the watch faces get booted from the Play Store or you don't find them from their original source, you can simply reinstall the apk from your backup above and it will work just fine.
No need for root to backup (and reinstall) just the watchface apk.

Question Safe to debloat list?

I'm looking to transformmy gw4 to close to pixel watch style and want to get rid of any samsung ux apps.
So i would like uninstall/disable any samsung ux apps and services that eat battery for no reason and not break any services (steps, heartrate etc.
Not uninstall but preferably disable (correct me if i'm wrong, but after uninstalling system apps using adb can these be installed again if i want to go back to stock by factory reset?)

No it's absolutely safe to uninstall bloatware as factory image can't be modified without root.
Calling pm uninstall --user 0 [package] should uninstall for current user eg. on a different partition which was setup during device initial setup.
Also it's safe to execute pm delete-dexopt [package] it order to remove files after the app optimization process on first start.
Next week I'll try to create a list of app safe to uninstall.
P.S. Oh, meanwhile could you try to take a look at the installed system apps list
pm list packages -s

Sounds good to me, its a shame that I can't remove samsung health for all the health tracking functions of the watch to still work properly, it's a huge battery hog and I'd rather use google fit or better yet, and open source tracker, but I guess that's on me for buying a samsung watch, can't wait for it to be rooted

This list still works, it has been updated due to an issue with gps not working when uninstalling sth related to Bixby. I've used this list just two weeks ago and no issue. Even uninstalled more aps then listed. So just give it a try.
