battery takes for ever to charge =(

Is there any way to speed up the charging process? a rapid charger? external charger where i can take the battery out and charge it in a charging pod faster then it charges while in the phone?

You may have a defective battery, mine charges as quickly as expected. Note: charging via a computer's USB port is always slower than charging from a wall outlet (though it does top the charge off slightly higher), though this rarely delays charging by more than 30 mins.

I understand your pain. When I had the SGS2 (coming from an iPhone), it took almost a half a day to charge up (exagerating). 30 min charge would only give you a handful of percentage. I am a bit more happy with the charging time of the Skyrocket though. Not amazingly faster, but quite a bit.

Took 6 hours yesterday to make a full charge from USB :-(
Realy bad. Now thinking to go back to iPhone ....

You can do sooooo much more with an android device that this should be an easy choice unless your a die hard fanboy. I wouldnt use an iphone even if it were free. Sure androids battery life isnt great but any superphone or superlaptop isnt going to be either unless they make it twice as thick to hold a very large battery. Also when you had your iphone i bet you did not use it nearly as much and now you probobly watch videos on youtube and netflix download free music surf the web alot more. So that may be another reason you arent as happy with the battery. Cant do awhole lot with an iphone to drain the battery nearly as much.

Umm.. We talking about battery life here... It's also not "android battery life" (no such thing), it's the samsung skyrocket phone's battery life we are talking about. You can vibrate the hell out of your phone between your legs and run out of juice. But it'll take a long time for it to recharge until you can continue with your vibrating.
As for can't do a whole lot with an iphone: I drain my phone with tower defense games like Sentinel 3. Available for both platforms. Drains battery just the same.
Nobody an iPhone fanboy here (this is xda, is it not?), but then again, I dont drink anyone's kool-aid...

That's why you don't ****ing charge from the computer. Also it is really fast to charge up to around 85%, the next 15% will take much longer due to the way all lithium batteries are made.

Yes, it takes longer to charge up the Skyrocket than it does an iPhone.
Part of this is because the Skyrocket battery is a larger capacity battery than the iPhone battery.
The larger the battery, the longer it takes to charge up.
The bigger your glass of milk, the longer it takes to fill it up.
The larger your cars gas tank, the longer it takes to fuel it up.
Etc.etc.etc.
But in keeping with the thread, I'd like to second the request for any info on fast chargers. We know that USB/computer charges slower than wall outlet chargers (wall-marts). But are there any wall chargers that charge faster than others?

I doubt it i believe the phones hardware only excepts a certain voltage and amperage. So even if the charger was slightly.highrr voltage and or.amperage the phone will only accept.what the hardware allows. You can have an underpowerd charger but to prevent mishaps there designed not to be able to overpower i may be wrong but i believe thats whus up

Tmobile phone/battery/charger warrenty replacement issues....ugh..

I bought my G2X around the end of April.
the USB became very loose and would rarely charge even when it shows it is charging after jiggling the plug to get it to work. Ive tried this with multiple chargers.
if i do get any sort of charge its no more than 10% and it discharges very fast about 1% in less than a minute. you can actually watch it drain.
the wall charger itself also does not charge, yet when i plug the wall charger USB cable into a PC USB it will slow charge.
yesterday I went to the local Tmobile store to order a replacement and the replacement phone showed up today without a battery so i still cant use it.
the new phone has been charging the old battery for hours and still has only 1%
I called Tmobile customer service and they tell me I have to choose between the battery OR the charger I cant have both, then I'm told I will have to pay $7 and change for GROUND shipping.
I explain the phone is around 8 months old, under warranty, I have insurance. and i know PLENTY of people that have had batteries shipped to them free of charge and they get to keep the old battery.
I know i can just get another wall charger from Ebay cheap but that's not the point
Im not trying to get something for free, i just want the phone,charger & battery that I paid over $500 for + insurance to actually work without me having to pay extra for it.
has anybody else had this issue?

well if u had to choose i would take the battery. they cost more then a charger does. but that is stupid they are telling u to choose between the two. i havent had to replace my battery or charger yet so idk if there are always like that. but i bought an extra oem lg battery just to have.

That's terrible to do. Batteries die over time, and quickly when sitting idly by just waiting to be used.

Im willing to bet he keeps a charged spare to swap in later in the day.
Id like to do that myself because I have never been able to make it 6-8 hours without a charge even on light use.
I love android but Im increasingly tired of the horrible battery life on every android device & Tmobile bending me over and screwing me. I read all these stories about great customer service but i always get the person that barely speaks English, replies from a script regardless of what i say and they never seem to care to offer any real help.
I want a damn phone that i can use as intended and only needs to be charged over night. sure maybe not streaming all day but at least everything else

Seriously, battery life is an issue with ALL smartphones. Look at all the ios users complaining about battery life, there are plenty. And, they can't swap batteries.
As far as T-Mobile goes, their replacement policy is no worse than any other carrier. If you have insurance as well, that would cover your shipping.

True but Ive NEVER had an android last anywhere near any of my friends Iphones as far as battery life is concerned (havent compared the newest model though). I can spend a whole day with an Iphone user and My phone is ON the chargers as often as theirs is off.
If I wasnt in love with the Screen size and HDMI out I would go back to my N1 <3
come to think of it I need batteries for the N1 & G1 as well lol

*puts on the old PDA Tech hat*.. yes I used to work in a T-Mobile Tier 2 PDA support... I supported Android, WinMo & Blackberry devices. Mostly blackberry, LOL, those things were terribly unreliable.... I trained on the G1, MyTouch3G, Cliq, Behold II (ugh) and Nexus 1.. though they wouldn't actually give us Nexus 1 devices to handle for some reason.
Anyway.... you can tell how old my info is now, so take it with a grain of salt, some policies may have changed.
First, insurance should cover shipping. Without insurance you pay shipping, with it you don't. If they told you otherwise, ask them when the policy about that changed. Also if you've paid shipping once in the past 30 days and it didn't resolve your problem, they are supposed to waive shipping on subsequent exchanges even without insurance.
They will NEVER send you a complete package of battery, phone AND charger all at the same time. The reason is simple: For all 3 to go bad is incredibly rare. If proper troubleshooting steps are followed, you can eliminate which one is the cause of the issue. If you cannot eliminate one of the 3 by testing at a T-Mobile store, they will normally send you the battery first.
The reason they did NOT send you a battery first was because you mentioned your charge port was loose. That's a phone issue, not a battery issue. Again, very rarely do TWO OR THREE separate devices go bad all at the same time, so you replace the one that's obviously bad first.
Now, you have a new phone and still have issues. Chances are it's the charger or the battery - but again, rarely both. Pick one. If you're unsure, then go to a t-mobile store and ask them to let you charge your phone for a bit on THEIR charger and see if you can see a difference.
Why they won't send you both, as I've said above, is it is very rare for both to go bad at the same time. Proper diagnostics (trying another battery and/or charger) should determine which is at fault.
If they were in the habit of replacing EVERYTHING any time a customer had a problem, then costs would go through the roof and your device would cost much more.
EDIT: As far as battery life... keep in mind that an original iPhone has a much slower processor than new Androids and didn't even support 3G (which uses more battery) in its first incarnation. The smaller screen on an iPhone also impacts battery life positively, whereas the bigger and brighter screens on many Android take more battery to power. Plus, Android has the capability to do much more multitasking, which leads to more processor usage. You have to be careful what apps you install because of that - or do as I do and use "Autostarts" from the market to prevent apps that believe they are special and should start up at all sorts of system events. Autostarts is much better than a task killer ever could be because it prevents an app from starting up on its own in the first place, and in the end, is a very positive influencer of battery life.

as far as testing all 3 devices thats already been done. the Tmobile store tested the phone and battery and agreed it wouldnt charge over 1% and the USB is loose and needs to be wiggled to work ( if you are lucky )
the old battery has been in the new phone charging all day. It wont charge over 1%
if I plug either phone into the factory wall charger its as if I havent done anything, phone doesnt recognize its being charged unless i use PC USB or my Motorolla 950mah car charger. and again its only getting to 1% and turning off.
I explained all this to customer service and as usual i get the scripted reply. We are sorry for your inconvenience but i wont really help you blah blah
So far Tmobile customer service has been worse than Sirius and thats saying ALOT. i wish they were more like Zappos. customer service there is nothing short of shockingly amazing.
I called to say I accidentally clicked the wrong size sneakers and the rep called the warehouse, stopped the order before it shipped out. sent the correct size next day air getting it to me EARLY and signed me up to the VIP service which gets me next day shipping on all my future orders. because of that I have ordered with them many times since.
Im not expecting Tmobile to go that far but it would be nice to have what I paid for working without all this hassle and any cost

Well, I admit a lot could be done to make technical support better. However, it's an industry-wide issue, not just with T-Mobile and not even specifically with cell phones.
While it *is* possible for all 3 to go bad, you have to look at it from the viewpoint as well of the tech rep sitting in a cramped and noisy cubicle all day. 99% of the calls she gets are because people forgot their Google password and are locked out of their phone due their kid enabling pattern lock. They don't even KNOW they have a Google account in the first place! Then the T-Mobile store wipes their phone, and they wonder how to get all their contacts back.. you know, the ones safely stored on their Google account... to which they do not know the password.
And then, they get your call. You say your phone, battery AND charger all 3 went bad? If the rep were to replace all 3, she would lose her job if that call happened to be graded. Why? Not following proper troubleshooting.
It's frustrating, I know, as the customer who actually does have a problem with all 3 at the same time. But that is an outlying case. 99% of the time, only 1 of the 3 devices were actually faulty to begin with.
In my experience, customers would ALWAYS demand a new phone first, when I was pretty sure it was the battery at fault. Most of the time it WOULD turn out to be the battery as well. Batteries fail a lot more often than people suspect. Except, that by demanding a new phone first, now they've sent back a perfectly good phone, and have a refurb which could have its OWN issues.
I would almost always try to start by replacing the battery first, but most customers would shoot that down.
In your case, as I said, the loose USB port indicated a phone problem, so they started in the correct place with replacing the phone.
Anyway, back to your last post.... Yes, customer service could be MUCH better. But it is the price we pay to have affordable gadgets delivered to our door.
I remember when I was a kid in the early 1980s and my Atari 2600 died. We had to mail it off to a repair center hundreds of miles away, and it was nearly 6 weeks before a new unit came by UPS. Oh, and we had to pay return postage COD. Good thing my mother was home when the UPS guy showed up!

Battery or Charger?
When I had a problem with my battery in April, I just called customer service and the gentleman I spoke with said no problem and sent me out a new battery, with free shipping and told me to just keep the old one. I'm one of those people who have had nothing but excellent service from T-Mobile. I've know A LOT of you all have had crappy service from them and I don't doubt it at all, but I'm a lucky one I guess. If I were you I would call again, maybe a few times until you get what you deserve! Good Luck Bud.

Hi, I'm getting a Nexus 5 today, and by some reason, everyone in my country (sales person) recommends to charge a new phone for 24 hours to "maximize" the numbers of hours that the phone's battery will last after this initial charge, however, I've always find that theory not so logical, could you tell me if this actually works, or a simple full charge would do the job? I suppose that would be true if it were 1998 when all phones had NiCd batteries. Charge and go my friend and figure out what your friends are smokin' (sounds like some high grade stuff).

Yea, it no longer matters at all. Charge whenever you are near power. Even if its only for a few %, it makes no difference. The days where you have to condition a battery by charging it to the top and then letting it drain all the way are over. Now you charge whenever you can and it makes absolutely no difference.

Samsung wireless charging battery case

So for the s7 edge I opted to get the mophie battery case because neither was water resistant and the mophie charged faster and gave more protection. With the Note 7 the mophie one isnt out yet, but the samsung one does have water resistance now. With 3100 mah i think itll be enough to get some good screen on time. It does come halfway charged so i recommend charging it before use. It works as simple as putting it on and turning it on.
I purchased this on amazon with prime shipping because the samsung website is so backed up they couldnt even give me a date when they might send it.
First up is the packaging. Its nothing special just the normal samsung packaging we've grown accustomed to.

Overall this will do its job but dont expect very much protection as the front is totally exposed. The charging is very slow. It does make the phone both heavier and thicker as is to be expected and makes 1 handed use harder but its a phablet so who cares. I do reccomend this case, but it is a tad expensive. On the other hand though you have to pay to play. Let me know what ya'll think. Will you get one?

The backpack itself does not charge wirelessly, only charges the phone wirelessly.

It is slow, but the way i look at it is, does it need to be super fast if its on your phone like all day?

About 3 hrs to full from 16 percent.. idk if it would even make it to full if you are using it but there you go.

I had this for one day and took it back for the Samsung fast charge power brick. The case made the phone very warm and just slowed the drain of the phones battery while in use.

Yeah at one point I was just cruising Facebook and I kept getting notifications about the device charging too slow. And this was while on wifi with the display at about 50%

Alright, so update. The charger doesnt charge fast we all get that. But it does work well enough that i started today at 500am and it is now 624pm with what i would consider pretty heavy usage. Probably a good 5 hrs screen on time and my phone is at 61 percent with the charger totally depleted, i started the charger at about 80 percent battery. I didnt browse the internet too much i was playing a game called dokkan battles pretty much the whole time with screen at about 25 percent brightness because the room i work in is dark. Just some figures for you guys i will keep updating as info is necessary.
As far as the power bricks go they are nice. And significantly faster, but i like not having to carry them around or plug them in, just one button and im charging.

I think for less than half the price with more capacity and 1.8a output, I would rather have this. It isn't waterproof and no access to spen though.

That could be legit

the samsung backpack charges the phone from 0 to roughly 40% - just tested it with my completely drained note 7 - charging....did not use while charging......turned phone on - battery level was 41% on the phone for about 30 seconds, then dropped to 40%.....
backpack was completely drained at the end of this.
i agree with the OP that it is MUCH easier to have this on the back of the phone rather than lugging around a power bank and cord. however, the backpack battery case is really expensive given the mAH it provides.....
i bought two of them b/c i'm on the phone all day talking to clients from my car.....my two cents is that the cost is worth the convenience, but most others will likely disagree......

Cords.....hate having to plug snd unplug. Also in in and out of my car all day. This way I have one backpack on my phone while the other one is connected to my fast charger in my car....

My Samsung backpack charger took the phone from 20% to full with 1 dot left. I changed wireless charging settings to slow charge only. Used it a few times while charging for light stuff. Gets a little warm while charging. I'm pretty happy with it. No cables and has pass through charging if you need it. Makes it twice as heavy though. I recommend it.

Charge to 80% or 100% ?

I've been an avid follower of Accubattery and keeping my battery from degrading...BUT I'm curious if anyone knows, is this still a thing in 2020 with the N20U?

I think it stands for old batteries and chargers, that charged them at a constant rate while lithium ones are sensitive to heat (at least) and need variable voltage and current depending of their actual charge level or they degrade faster over time.
And that exactly what the Power Delivery standard does which Samsung phones are compliant since the Note 10 if I'm not wrong.
So i wouldn't mind charging to 100%

I've been charging my phones to 100% and leaving them on the charger overnight for years! I've never seen any noticeable degradation of the battery life due to this.

Pretty much this lol.
I try not to leave them on the charger all night these days but I did that for years also and no issues either.

Not worth the hassle for me. I've had slight battery degradation if I keep a phone two years, but hardly worth daily struggles. I usually upgrade after a year anyway, haha.

Haha yeah thats a good point...never have one long to even think about battery issues lol

I charge my Note 10+ to 80% and Accubattery shows battery health at 99.95%
I have noticed battery health falling about 8% in one year of use if you always charge to 100%. That being said, I think Samsung has improved batteries a lot and Note10+ onwards use special battery that degrades slower than previous devices

The old 40%-80% was for older technology batteries. Even then it only extended the battery life marginally, and only over many years. it's not like it's a magic cure to make your battery last a significantly long time.
Just charge the phone to 100% whenever you need to, and don't worry about how often yo need to charge it. Battery technology has come so far, and it doesn't matter how often you charge them or how high. There's technology in there to stop charging once it reaches 100% so that it doesn't overcharge.

On the Tab S tablet and under the charging setting there's a protect battery toggle where it will charge the battery to 85%.
I don't know why they don't have this option on their phones but I'm not sure how necessary it really is.

I had great success on my note 9 with the 80 percent charge. Over the long haul it seemed to me to keep getting better. I am doing it now to see how it goes . I also avoid fast charging as much as possible to see if that helps as well. I wasn't aware that they made changes since the note 9 ,so maybe it's all for nothing.

I seem to be on a “how to” kick this AM .... so I understand the debate about 80 vs 100
But how in the heck do you guys actually accomplish only charging to 80%?? I’m so busy I can’t remember to do half the stuff that I really need to remember , let alone remember to take my phone off the charger.
Also do you guys just turn of all 3 of the “fast charging” options in the settings , unless you need them at a particular time?

I used to turn of all fast charging options. I also would find a routine where the time needed to charge matched the time I was doing something without the phone. For me in the morning when getting ready for work was the best time . Had it down to a science, and the alarm from accu battery helps me as well. It does go kinda rough at first, but after a month or so , I did notice that the charges to 80 lasted longer, then it was down to once a day.

I bought this nifty little gadget called a Chargie (chargie.org). DHL/USPS still jerking me around on delivery so I've not yet received it, but oddly excited about trying it.

Have you guys noticed with wireless charging the phone is still warm after reaching 100 percent.

Did you finally get and does it work well as advertised?

I opened a separate thread some time ago and people advised to use 30-80 range. I also have Accubattery and follow this principle religiously. However, no matter how I do it, the power charge cycle goes up like crazy. My phone is 2 weeks old and the cycle is now 15 whilst it says the average life is 400-500 cycles. I never bothered about this with my previous phones but don't know what to do with this one. I want it to serve for at least 2 years before I upgrade.
