[HOW TO] Fix Fossil GEN 6 pairing issue (Wear OS - An error occured...) - Wear OS General

Hi,
I got a Fossil Gen.6 Smartwatch and struggled a lot to pair it with my Oneplus 8 Pro (OOS12 + UB + Root). Staying on the setup screen on the watch is very frustrating, and hopefully, i found a workaround.
I browsed the web a lot and have seen this fix only once, so i intend to share it widely to raise awareness. I also posted it on Oneplus Community forums.
Issue :
At first boot, the watch asks to download Wear OS by Google on a phone. In my case, if i download Wear OS from the Play Store, the app keeps saying "An error occured while finding devices" and i can't setup the Watch. Is the watch shy ? Why won't she come up to the phone ?? Is my phone wrong ? Did i get a defective watch out of factory ?? Many questions the google help page won't answer... You can read the Google troubleshooting guide on your phone but none of these tips work (to me)...
Fix :
Just uninstall Wear OS from your phone, and install this one from here or use the apk attached
Virustotal check here
It seems using Wear OS 2.0.0, (Android Wear at the time), works slightly better !
Before the setup with Android Wear, don't forget to factory reset / unpair the Watch if you connected it to another phone before (for me it worked on a P30 Lite but i don't own the device..). Once the setup is done and you have access to the watch, you can update Android Wear to Wear OS though Play Store
I have no clue if it's phone related, android OS version related, app permission related but this may work on other smartwatch too.
Creds to a redditor on an old thread
Cheers

Huawei Watch 2 as a standalone device

Hello.
Because i did not liked form factors of most mobile phones, i did not owned any for last 15 years. Recently i found out that certain smartwatches allow usage of SIM cards and can be used as a stand-alone phone.
So i gave it a try to use the watches without any phone.
Solutions
a) Old tablet on Wifi.
As watches require an activation via Wear OS app, this was easiest and fastest way how to get them work.
b) Virtual Box, with Android x86 image, and Bluetooth
This solution failed for me for probable reason that USB bluetooth i used was just 2.0, and i dont have newer one available. Anyone has an experience with this?
Virtualization would help me to manage the watches alone, without any other tablet or phone.
Current difficulties.
1. Activation of the watches.
2. New PW protected Wifi.
Can be solved with an app.
3. New contacts.
For each new contact (stored in Recent calls), i have to get to a PC and add the number to Google contacts, which get synced with the watches.
Can me recommend me set of apps to overcome those difficulties without rooting the watches?
Ok, I finally succeeded to pair my Virtual Box from Windows PC with my Huawei Watch 2.
1. You need a Bluetooth 4.0 on your PC.
I used this one Belking USB BT 4.0
2. Download and install Oracle Virtual Box.
I have version 5.2.
3. Download Android x86 7.1 ISO. - android-x86-7.1-r1.iso
4. Setup your virtual machine (CPUs, RAM, Storage)
5. Boot the ISO from virtual CD/DVD drive.
- Install the OS on virtual box
- set it up with your Google account.
- Install Google Wear
- Enable bluetooth in Virtual Box, and then in the Settings inside of Android OS.
To be sure it works, Bluetooth has to disappear from Windows.
Notes:
a) You have to reset watches to factory defaults, else it will be invisible over Bluetooth and you wont be able to pair them.
b) Only Android 7.1 worked with newest Google Wear app.
Older androids got stuck during pairing process.
Hope this helps.
so why do you even bother using a Wear os watch??!
the are many watches in the market with full android os or other usable operating systems on them that they dont necessarily need a phone to pair with because they are basically a phone!
All the models available here (Slovak republic) were:
a) Using eSIM which is not yet supported by the local GSM network providers.or did not used SIM at all.
And i need a phone number (first time over 15 years )
b) Were called "smart watches" but were incapable of more than taking data for "Fit" applications and had GPS.
So they did not had any communication capabilities at all.
c) Were using a proprietary, and thus limited OS
So everything available here was designed to be attached to phone or a tablet, or it it was a standalone device, it did not had phone capabilities.
What is available here is Samsung S3, Garmin watches (various), Apple Watch or Huawei watch 2. Most of the offer is at least 6-9 months old or older.
Also, and oddly... specs on most shops are missing a lot of data. The guy who was selling me the Huawei Watch 2 believed that the slot is for MicroSD card...

Huawei Watch 2 after three months as standalone
Features which work on 4G/LTE
There can be a problem for some users, the watch need google account to make features work. The positive side is, that you can manage some of them - like the contact list - on a PC and phone is not mandatory.
Phone calls
SMS
Contact List is syncing with Google
(Watch allow to type in phone number manually even without contact list)
Translate
Google Assistant
System updates
Apps updates
App Store
Additional apps i tested:
Google Maps (Partially. Navigate feature attempt to pop up on a phone)
Video Tube (youtube app. switches between 4g/Wifi depending on available network).
Browser app, yet i dont recommend to use it, as there is no optimized content.
Features which work only on BT (and therefore need phone/tablet)
Those can be managed from google assistant (you can schedule an event), however update in Agenda app will not show up until Watches get connected to Phone/tablet via BT.
Calendar / Agenda
Reminder
Notifications from Google services (Google plus, Youtube).
Huawei fit app (some parts need phone)
There is also some features which allow watches to control apps on phone remotely. In most cases it has little to no added value (such as remote control for youtube viewer, or music player)
Apps which need GPS location, else not working properly
Weather
Certain Watchfaces which report weather forecast via Widgets.
Certain Watchfaces which display map on the background
I understand why Weather apps need location, but exactly same feature over Google Assistant has no problem with telling weather forecasts.
Now for Google Pay.
a) Configuring
You need phone/tablet/virtual machine with android.
You have to add card on the watch, enter the details on phone/virtual machine
Rest of the identity verification may differ, depending on your bank App. Its good to know that the app works on Virtual Machine in the advance.
Virtual machine or android tablet does not need to have NFC, but google pay installed on the device will alway attempt to complete the payment method - and later politely explaining it will not work. Its ok to have NFC just on watch.
b) Once configured, no Phone app is required for using.
The application will work independently on phone.
Therefore its a success, and but the results may wary depending on your banking phone app.

new to huawei watch 2 and wear os

Hi as the title says i am late to the party
I managed to get one of the watches cheap recently and have a few questions.
Im having problems because the roms ive installed dont have gapps i chose not to install them because i didnt need any of the services until now and ended up with more issues e.g. even with gapps installed i needed the latest play store for the wear os app to even run then after installing it said my play services or something similar needed updating before wear os would run after that the wear os app would just freeze.
After that annoyance i decided to install a stock rom and have to go through all the updating google stuff again then i finally could get my watch to boot and sync up etc but the battery life on my phone was a lot worse and not really worth the hassle (using airplane mode on both roms)
I see theres a few roms and kernels for the watch but not sure what the differences are.
What do the roms offer that stock doesnt? I know it seems stupid having a smart watch and not using all the features but some of the things i wont use at all and the things i would are hindered by the fact it has to go through the wear os app that then needs all the google services to run.
Is it possible to use the watch without all the google stuff? I have an alcatel "smartwatch" that just seems to be easier to get running and pair with its basic app on my phone . at the minute i prefer the alcatel or even just my analogue watch becuase of the hassle the huawei seems to have to go through but if i reset the watch im going to have to do all that nonsense again with the play store.

Wear OS Watch?

Hey guys,
I'm looking at potentially buying one of these and I can live with side loading most Google apps i need but, i've seen some info on the web that suggests due to the lack of GMS that Android Wear will not work. Can I use my Wear OS watch fully with this or, not at all?
Thanks!
Hi,
I've owned the Mate 30 Pro for all but 12 hours last week and managed to move all my apps via "Phone Clone" but remember that one of the reasons I returned it was the fact that even though I managed to have Wear OS app on the Mate 30 Pro, it wouldn't launch due to lack of Google support.
Hi,
Even if you still manage to install GMS on the phone, you will not be able to sync the Google account from phone to watch. Due to this you will have only calls, notifications and health tracking working.

Not true for the people who have GMS fully working except google pay and netflex. My fossil gen 4 is working fine, installed a bunch of paid watch faces bought on google play store on the Mate 30 pro and transferred on the watch. I had GMS installed in January this year and have no pop-up warnings.
I also don't have any issue with GMS on phone. I don't use GPay and i use the older apk for Netflix. Only issue i have is to copy the account from phone to watch. BUT... i think this applies only to Huawei Watch 2 users. I don't know for other types of watches.
I have not found a way yet of adding my Google account from my mate 30 Pro to my Android Wear watch too. Notifications work ok from other apps on the watch, so not a complete loss but 'Google' wear apps can not be installed as Wear play store and it's account does not exist on the watch.
I have the Moto 360 and works fine with my mate 30 pro
My Huawei Smartwatch 2 (2019) is working fine with WearOS

Question Gmail and Dual/Cloned apps notifications

Hi all.
I open this thread after reading and searching on all the WWW a solution on the notification problems the GW4 has.
I'd like this thread would be a repository of all the solutions tried and tips or workarounds to fix these issues.
Here following my direct experience
Gmail - every received email is not notified on the watch: no vibration. It's visible just the "notifications" dot on the left. Then, no one of the quick action is working. If I delete the email, the watch tells me to look at the phone, but the action is not taken.
I use Stark for other email accounts, not Gmail, and it's working perfectly.
Anyone of you has the same issue? Any fix for it?
Dual or Cloned apps - my phone is a Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro and I have the cloned WhatsApp. Whenever I get a message on it, the watch doesn't do nothing, not even the notification dot. It's like this app is not "seen" by the GW4 and by the wearable app.
My former smartwatch, a Ticwatch E, was correctly receiving and notifying both WhatsApp' messages.
I tried to clone the wearable app as well, but no success. I wanted to clone also the Plug-in, but there's no option in my phone for this.
Same question: anyone else has my same problem? Is there any solution?
Please share your experiences and let's try to find out the solutions!!
Thank you in advance

For cloned apps or apps from Work Profile - you can use Tasker and AutoNotification to intercept the notification, and AutoWear to produce the new notification directly on the watch from captured data. Or buy Samsung phone - they are passing all the notifications to the watch natively (exclusive feature for sams phone + sams watch)

I honestly wanted to avoid the installation of several apps for something that should work without any problems.
The wear OS made by Samsung seems really to be too much closed to all which is not Samsung, and this is not nice...

It's not a Samsung - it's a Google. Android is separating normal and work profiles as much as possible, as technically you have two separate users and they shouldn't mix. On own phones Samsung just have a backdoor for that embedded into the ROM.

It's strange because, as I wrote in 1st post, before I was using a Ticwatch connected to the phone via the Google's Wear OS app and everything was working smoothly.
Samsung doesn't allow to connect the GW4 via Wear OS app, but just its Wearable app.
In Wear OS app I was able to see WhatsApp as 2 different apps, the native and the cloned. In Samsung app just the native.
Is there any way to make cloned WhatsApp "visible" to wearable app?
I see one commenter on Sammobile says the latest update (DUJA) fixes Gmail notifications!

Question Help needed for Galaxy Watch 4 india : activation of Google assistant, ECG and BP

Hi guys,
Its my first watch n hence am over whelmed by the information that I found regarding activation of Google assistant , ECG and BP for the indian version of the Samsung galaxy Watch 4.
I am on the latest os version one 4.5 ui but still cant figure out how to activate the google assistant.
I have already updated to the latest version on the watch but the "open on phone to activate" does nothing in the phone. Not sure where I am going wrong.
Also, I found a thread asking me to sideload the assistant go app but again there are 4 variants of the app in there. x64,x86 n what not. So couldn't understand which one to use.
Also, for ECG n BP if anyone could share any useful info on how to install them in India, it would be a great help.
Phone: Xiaomi Redmi note 10 pro ( android ver 12) ( Miui ver 13.0.5)
Watch os: 4.5 latest one in india
Thanks
I believe the Google app you want to side load is the x86 nodpi
As for the ecg and bp, Dante has a guide on this forum on how to install his modded Samsung health app on the watch and the phone to get all that working.
Hey thanks, I sideloaded the Google go assistant that I found on a "how to" guide online. But i cant set it as a default assitant in my watch. It works as long as i hit the app button in my watch. Neither can I set it as a long press shortcut instead of bixby. Funnily, I can do all this in my parents samsung phone by just changing the language.........but not in my xiaomi phone. Cant figure whats so different in them for google assistant to work on while not on the other.
