you know, I have been with LG for quite some time now, but I do have to say that the LG G Flex 2 was a huge disappointment. I have owned the G2, Original G Flex, G3 and the Flex 2 and it was by far the worst phone. I absolutely loved my G2 and then got the Original Flex to try out and loved it (except for the screen res and burn in effect). When the G3 came out I loved it but had a few problems, like sticking with the SD801 was a bad decision and made the phone laggy due to the screen, and there were ways to speed it up and it turned out to be a great phone.
But now that LG has started to gain popularity with their mobile devices, I am worried that they are going to let it go to their heads and start cutting corners. I am going to try LG one more time to see how they handle this disappointment, and trust me they know this phone bombed because the world has let them know how bad it really is. I hope that the G4 is going to blow everyone away and restore all of us die hard fans' faith in the company. I know alot of people are going to this from the G2, and are disappointed in the speed of the phone. so if you dont mind a big phone, I went with the Nexus 6 and could not be happier, this phone blows me away by how fast and responsive it is. this phone is a Rooting Person's Dream lol
I do have to say i will miss my LG, but for people out there wanting to upgrade now, I think if you can wait just alittle bit longer, then wait. this phone isnt worth the upgrade and wait for the G4. but if you are looking for an amazing phone, I have to say go with the Nexus 6
You should have hung in there for the update it runs fantastic now all the transitions are smooth and the phone is very good now
Nexus 6 was just too big for me.
If your only issue with the phone was the lag then you should have waited a bit..., I personally love this phone.

Was all the lag fixed with a firmware update, then?
Not all but the most.
I'm on 10b and its good now.
10d is better but not available for Vodafone germany. The software/ui wasn't optimized for the snapdragon 810.
Gta San Andreas runs very smooth with max settings
I personally haven't had a lot of lag. But I just got my phone 4/4 and the update had already been released. What I do have is battery issues. Neither my nor my friends phone will read my samsung 64 GB sd card and infact if i put the card into either phone it immediately corrupts the data forcing a reformat.
This combined with the relatively absent dev community is likely going to force me into a Galaxy s6 on the 10th
That being said There are some things this phone did completely right and I wish Samsung would have stepped their sh*t up a notch.
Frankly the current offerings fail to excite me and these upgrades feel lackluster.
From my galaxy s5 with a sweet Dev community to the G flex 2 with *cricket cricket* no dev community.
TBH if i didn't have the above mentioned issues and little things
(for example smart remote not deploying into notification panel despite the fact that i chose home wifi and was connected to it., The youtube app not letting me pause a video.) That may be Lolliflop issues and I would be surprised if a lot of those type of bugs go away when 5.1 hits.
Lately Android seems to trying to be more iPhone like meanwhile apple is stealing Android features by the bushel and becoming more android like.
I will likely never buy an apple product do to the lack of transparency and also hatred for the walled garden.
That being said android needs to wow me. I kind of wish I had waited to pull the trigger on upgrading but I traded in my phone after a year with sprint and now Have to take a step up.
It looks like it's going to be an s6 for me.
But I curse the loathsome curr dogs Samsung for taking away my microSd and My removable battery.
But alas I need to get a real phone with a dev community.
Or else start learning to dev myself.

I don't have problems with lag, battery or the other problems your phone has. Did you try a factory reset?
I agree the lack of devs is discouraging.

I think a lot of dev are waiting to see if this phone bootloader will be unlockable because the first og G Flex was able to be rooted but the bootloader was locked on tight that's the reason it also lacked in the development section.

The s5 had knox and it was still defeated. If enough devs get this phone ( big if) someone will defeat it.
If i were lg i would be trying to do everything I could to move phones.
That would include pandering to the modders.
Lets be honest here most of us here on are the most tech savvy people in our family/friend circles.
At least i am. And all my friends and family follow my lead as far as phones.
Everybody has a galaxy s5 in my family. It's because I recommended it to them. I definitely can't recommend LG based on the super locked boot loader. Nor the issues I've had. Tbh im prob returning for an s6. As long as bootloader is unlocked.

Your right but it's very risky for these devs to just put out the cash for a phone that your to not sure is going to succeed in the development department especially with the locked boot loader. The original Flex was a nightmare when it came down to development but overall the phone was great so I stuck with it for a whole year.
I was waiting for the flex 2 but saw too many reasons to not get it so I decided to buy the nexus 6 right out for $500 brand new sealed and I don't regret it at all and plus I still have my upgrade available so I could use it for a device well worth in quarter 4.

Hey guys, Sorry havent had the chance to check in, but I am glad that most have had updates to fix alot of the problems. I am on sprint and 9 times out of 10 sprint is the last to provide any updates for a phone for some reason. I really did like the phone and im sure I will try LG again in the future, but I didnt want to be stuck with a phone I was having so many issue's with until they decided to throw out an update, and we know sometimes that can be months. The Nexus 6 is big but I love it and the battery life is ALOT better than my G3 and the Flex 2, but nothing has beaten the G2. I sure wish LG could find a way to bring back the best of performance and battery life like they did on the G2.
just out of curiousity, are any of you guys on sprint? I was just curious if sprint did release an update

But also, I have multiple lines on my account, so I get a new phone every six months. so while you are still using this I will have probably gotten three phones to your one. Peace

yea, i cant seem to make up my mind so i just try them all... lol
but coming from LG's I hate how the USB OTG doesnt auto mount thru the UI, I loved that feature. and Stickmount is ok but it still doesnt make it work with all apps
also, just out of curiousity... I have had LG for awhile and liked the UI, but the Flex 2 was the first time it was just super laggy and I never really cared for other launchers, but now that I have the Nexus 6 and have been playing with Stock Google and AOSP roms, I didnt care for the Google Launcher so I started playing with others and really like Apex. It works great for me and I can customize and setup just how I like..
So has anyone with the Flex 2 tried any other launchers on it and if so how did it work. was it an instant transformation or was there still some issues?
Hey guys, I would really appreciate some help with this. My phone is often extremely laggy, to the point that when it's asleep and I get a phone call, it wouldn't wake up for me to be able to answer it (even though I can hear it ringing) until the person calling hangs up. I know TW is famous for being slow but this is just ridiculous. The only thing I have running in the background with the exception of normal TW stuff is the DS Battery Saver module (only set to control wifi/Data, not killing apps) and yet often I can see that the phone is using more than 2.2GB of RAM (after I've killed everything in the task manager). How can this be? Surely the system itself doesn't need THAT much RAM? I shudder to think what phones with a smaller RAM are like.
I'm running the Thunderbolt ROM (basically just deodexed stock 5.0.1) with Xposed and the "Fix Lollipop Memory Leak" module. Is there anything else I can do? I love the design of this phone but I am close to getting rid of it and going back to Sony which was always smooth as silk. I would prefer to stick to the Note though since I love the design and extra functionalities but what use are them if I have enough time to make a cup of coffee every time I try to do something?
It must be your Rom. I used to love to installed custom rom on my S1 and S2. But at the end of the day, custom roms are all buggy.
Sent from my SM-N915T using XDA Free mobile app
I would agree with you but if anything, it was worse when I was on stock which is why I decided to try a custom rom (and I tried many buggy ones before settling on this). I'm not someone who spend my time flashing various roms just to experiment, it's usually because I find the performance or features lacking.
Have you tried to wipe everything and odin back to stock? Im on stock, unroot, and I dont have any issues yet.

Same. I just don't even bother with Custom ROMs except if it gives more battery life. KNowing how hard Samsung has worked to make customization harder, I haven't bothered with custom ROMs for my edge.
Also I too have high RAM usage always but it doesn't make my phone any slower or laggier than past Bloatwiz phones. I am on 4.4.4 stock with a bunch of T Mobile stuff disabled.

Yeah I wonder if I should revert back to KitKat. My phone was great when I first got it, even when I had a whole heap of stuff installed. But maybe I'll wait for 5.1.1 first and see if that helps (the 915G still hadn't received 5.1.1 yet).

From what I have seen, you can no longer downgrade Android once you update to 5.1.1
Suffice it to say I will see if there is a way to stop my phone from auto updating itself. Kit Kat is working well for me and it retains all the native Edge features that made the Edge different.
I was able to get 6.5 hours screen time with my phone with location turned off and a full day of note taking, facebook, and music

6.5 hours?!? Holy crap, did you play any games at all? I usually last only around 3 hours but that's because I do play quite a lot of games. Anyway, I'm downgrading to 4.4.4 now, hopefully it'll stop acting up.

No. Not really. Like I said, I One Noted all day with my S pen, music, facebook alot and Chrome. I managed battery by using power saving mode, turning off location and turning off sync and turning it on every hour for about 5 minutes to get my emails in.
Today I did gaming and art on my Edge and got about 4 hours

So I've been back on stock 4.4.4 for a few days now. It is simply fantastic! The difference is huge! No problems what so ever now. I would like to stay on this for the life of my phone but I am a little concerned about the lack of security updates (such as Stagefright). What are your thoughts on this?
BTW, I noticed that Android system and kernel often takes up the majority of my battery percentage. Each by between 9-16%. Do you get this as well?

Yep, thats normal
And don't worry, i got the stagefright update on 4.4.4 and I was on MetroPCS lol. MetroPCS rides on T Mobile, but its just goes to illustrate that you have nothing to worry about. Glad you are enjoying your Note Edge again. Its a shame Samsung forgot they released this beast of a phone. Imagine this thing with the Note 5's but Edged version of the new TW. Nah, makes too much sense for consumers. Doesn't make sense if you are trying to get people to buy new phones.
Anyways just make sure you never upgrade to 5.1.1 That thing is a point of no return

I can't even begin to describe how happy I am with my phone right now. I remember a couple of months after I first got it, a friend of mine was watching me use it and commented on how snappy it was. Then more recently, not only did the sluggishness drive me crazy, I was watching others with envy, especially my girlfriend who is rocking my old Z1 Compact which still performs like a little rocket. Anyway, I am now back to loving the Note Edge again. I even prefer it over the new Notes, looks and all.
I just want to ask though, how did you manage to get the Stagefright update without updating the firmware? Software Update in the Settings won't allow me to update at all because "the operating system on my device has been modified in an unauthorised way" (I guess they're talking about the root) and Kies 3 tells me there's a new firmware available which I guess is 5.0.1 again (the N915G still doesn't have 5.1.1 as far as I know).

Lol, exactly. I wouldn't be worried about your phone at all. Unless you do shady online stuff
I've been running LiquidSmooth 3.2 (4.4.4) practically since I got the phone nearly a year ago. The last few months it's been getting henky; occasional random reboots, particularly when playing games, plus sometimes games would crash or simply freeze. Angry Birds 2 (crashes, restarts), Assassin's Creed Pirates (freezes), Kill Shot (crashes), etc. I've been meaning to try a 5.1 ROM, but have been lazy about it.
Then sometime between going to bed last night and waking up this morning, something happened. No apps were updated (I have that turned off). But it rebooted, and my wallpaper reverted to the LiquidSmooth stock wallpaper. It works fine until the screen locks, and it won't wake up again. The capactive keys light up (but don't vibrate like they should), but the screen doesn't respond. After the screen times out, sometimes I hear the "click" of it locking (I have the lock timeout set to 5 seconds) over and over and over. This in itself is odd, because it didn't make that click before (I guess I disabled that). The only way I can do anything is to reboot it and keep the screen on. And when I reboot, the wallpaper reverts, yet everything else (icons, widgets) remains as it was. I'm completely baffled, because, like I said, I did nothing other than turn the screen off and go to bed, and when I woke up, it was doing this crap.
So I sad "#$%@" it", I'll back everything up and try BlissPop 5.1.1. Downloaded this plus GApps. I go into TWRP (2.8.7.0), wipe everything but internal storage, try installing BlissPop, and it fails. I happen to have an older version, and that fails too. The only thing that flashes is LS 3.2, and after flashing that, it has all my apps like it did before, but Play Services continually crashes.
I'm not a novice to flashing. I tried upwards of 30 different ROMs on my Nexus 4. and never ran into this problem. However, these were all 4.4.4 ROMs (although Titanium back-ups originated from a 4.2.2 device), as is the LS version I've been using on my OnePlus One. Is there something I'm missing/not doing going from KK to LP? Do I need to revert to stock, update to official OTA, then install my chosen 5.1 ROM?
As I'm typing this, I've restored the TWRP back-up I did before trying this other stuff, and now the screen keeps showing the LS wallpaper (off-centered) and then the homescreen to the left (2 out of 5), and back and forth and back and forth, not responding to touch.
W T F ?
OK, I see now that there indeed is a firmware change needed to go from KK to LP. Not gonna try it tonight - too drunk for that. I'm off work Wednesday and Thursday, so I'll give it a try then. Come to think of it, I should try the official CM12s too, to see if the crashes/freezes happen, in which case it might be a hardware issue and I'll have to send it back. Meanwhile I've got LiquidSmooth up and running again. Games still crash though, and irritatingly, the Play Store crashes every time I try to type in a search (but not if I use voice).
I still would like to know WTF happened in the first place, but I suspect I'll never know.

If you wanna flash firmware using twrp you'll need to downgrade to 2.8.6.0 it's the only one that works without issues. Cos12.1 is a good choice but don't use the flash-all script (in fastboot) without backing up your phone, you'll end up wiping everything. Unless you're encrypted there's no need to use 2.8.7.0

Thank you. Perhaps that's why the "update.zip" batch restore I created in Titanium wouldn't flash.
I admit I'm no expert with the OPO. When I got it I flashed LiquidSmooth and never looked back, so I'm out of date and undereducated. I was planning on reading everything and getting caught up in the near future, since as soon as I've got the cash I'm picking up a Nexus 6 ($300 for 64gb on Amazon right now) and I was going to play around with LP/MM ROMs on my OPO, but then this crap happened ahead of schedule. Kinda ridiculous that a few years ago I was hesitant to get a smartphone because they were so "huge", and now my OPO isn't big enough anymore.

I was also considering getting a Nexus 6 some time ago but it isn't a big enough bump to justify switching when I could just keep using the OPO and end year wait for SD820 Nexus. TWRP is a pain for a lot of users and they experience a whole host of issues that they can't seem to understand, such as several in this section titled no sim/no network and sometimes proximity sensor issues are related to not being able to flash firmware while on TWRP 2.8.7.0. You're still on 4.4 so you're even more clueless ?. Only two things you need to be aware of Lollipop uses a new firmware (baseband 241) and latest CM13 uses a different firmware too (c7-00011)

I was also considering getting a Nexus 6 some time ago but it isn't a big enough bump to justify switching when I could just keep using the OPO and end year wait for SD820 Nexus.

I was so excited with the Nexus 6 was coming out...until they announced the price, so I got the OnePlus One. Now the the price is reasonable (a freaking bargain, IMO) at $250/300 brand new, I want to get one and maybe sell my OPO. I read eBooks during downtime at work and that extra bit of screen makes a huge difference (it did when I had a Note 3, and the Nexus 6 is even bigger), plus I read with white text and black background will work great with AMOLED. I also like playing some games, and the big screen and front-facing speakers will be perfect for that. Sure, the latest and greatest would be nice, but I can't afford that. My dream phone would be the rumored Xperia Z5 Ultra, but it'll likely cost $800-900.

Hey, I like KitKat! Still running KK on my S4 and Nexus 4. I had zero interest in 5.0, but now that the 5.1 ROMs are fleshed out, it's time for something new.

Does that apply to all Marshmallow ROMs or just CM/CM based ones?
Again, thanks for your help, and putting up with me.

Haven't heard of a Z5 Ultra but Sony is not my taste. I'll hold out for the Nexus at the end of this year and I'll probably buy it in 2017 (depends on finances) or get a 6P at bargain prices. I've also heard the Nexus 6 isn't great in battery life department so custom kernel will be a must
5.1.1 ROMs are rock stable right now so I'd suggest them over Marshmallow (numerous bugs at the moment but getting better every day).
The new modem is only if you want to run CM based ROMs which are the majority so you'd have to flash latest CM13 nightly first before flashing any other. If you use Omni or any ROM based off their source like Slimsaber or SAOSP etc they work with Lollipop firmware.

There have been rumors of a new Z Ultra for years ever since the first (and only) one. 6.44" screen, etc. I plan on getting a new tablet soon as well (Tab S 8.4 or Nexus Shield K1), but if they ever came out with a new Z Ultra (maybe they're waiting for the SD820), it'd be big enough to replace a tablet, yet still fit in my pocket. Maybe the Nexus 6 will suffice on its own.
Reviews I've read of the Nexus 6 say it has great battery life, but those are with scripts and can only simulate real-life usage. I'm not worried. Reading at work drains my batter the most, and with a white-on-black theme and AMOLED screen, I should be fine. I usually only play games at home, when it's plugged in anyway. Of course, I'll be playing around with custom kernels anyway. I never really bothered with them on my OPO (it already has smooth performance and great battery life), but probably will once I try 5.1 ROMs.
We're getting OT here, but it's my thread, so I can if I want!
I almost entirely regret Giving moto a chance with this phone.
I loved the Z Force, the Z2 was great but this is hot garbage, and every update makes me wish I had a way to go back to android 9.
Is there any custom OS / Firmware I can install? I cant find any LinageOS links that exist, Im sure its asked here 100 times over and over again, but I am also asking, is there a good way to get this guy back to factory default? lol

What issues are you having?
I've had the phone for almost two years, and still works great with great battery life, after taking all OTAs. I'm BL Unlocked and rooted with Magisk.

Im currently having the issue where every like idk 2-5 minutes, I get a lag spike, so typing on the keyboard would go from smooth to holding one key (but all future keys get typed in no problem).
You said Magisk? is that like a CFW?
I get this problem with third party launchers installed.
Is there any TWRP development coming to is phone?? Feel like it's gone back to galaxy s one days before twrp was invented. What the wtf, we going backwards?
Was given the impression the pixel 7 pro was the bees nees of dev but feels like a phone in chains. Do I need to carry a laptop around to flash a ROM . Wtf!
the s23 ultra has an unofficial twrp build already and the pixel 7 pro nadda.
I feel I want to return this and get something that actually has possibilities. This is ****. I want to play with different roms they look good but with the trouble of not being able to flash on the fly, flash majisk, I have no interest in flashing these days, seems to trouble some. Pixels feels like they are just in locks and chains. Not happy so far at all with this phone.
I'm currently on calyx os and if I flash magisk from a computer I can't take the OTA, where if I had TWRP recovery I can just flash OTA or file.zip and the majisk and done. Feel like this phone is a step backwards. That do you think?
Just thought I'd ramble on a bit about my upsets. No pun intended. But to thoughs who made this harder
There just haven't been a need for TWRP as of now, since you can/need to do most things via a computer and a cable. Factory images updates for example, cannot be flashed via TWRP.
Other ROMs such as LOS or Evox has their own recovery implementation. Which is incompatible as well

If twrp was available right now I would flash it without a heartbeat. Flash roms like nobody's watching. And be greatfull I didn't need my laptop for such things.

I might be wrong but the s23 series is probably the last who will get twrp too.
I think twrp on a/b devices is not a big thing and google forces any device released with android13 to be an a/b device.
And TWRP is generally of little use on Pixel devices, which do not have a recovery partition. Since the bootloaders are easily unlocked and accept flashing commands, firmware can be flashed via ADB.

What you mean not a big thing? What? bootloaders unlocked. Every mainstream phone has bootloader's to unlock. There are many ab devices with twrp.?
In a few years it seems flashing a ROM will be a thing of the past. Google android is sailing the way to an island with no food. Android is dead. I think i'll have to go back to my op5t for the full fruits of life. There is no life here.

The last devices im using had trouble with TWRP. (OnePlus 8 Pro, Nothing Phone 1, Pixel 7 Pro)All A/B Devices.
Im fine with using my computer to install roms.
If having twrp is such a big deal for you, you should not pick devices that dont have it.
The Pixel 5 was the last Pixel with twrp.

Well, I didn't have a chance at the time to study what the pixel 7 pro would or would not have. And had to take a luck dip at the time.
I guess I'm just used to using twrp for such a long time and now new pixel are feeling old.

I understand this. Im Here since 2010 and used a Huawei p30 pro a Long Time. It is a great device without root/bootloader unlock. I came Back with a oneplus 8 pro without twrp easy hard/soft bricks and more.
We have to adapt.

For The Win as opposed to the other option, I'd guess... Using that old thing called Google. Before getting a new device I always have a quick check on XDA as to what kind of support/ROM etc development is being done. Only takes a moment, just like the search I did for you. No need to rant, just change your device then. Job done!
It's really a backwards for Google without TWRP's support. Very Badly.

Yeah, as I mention on a few posts above. If you read properly which only takes a moment, i didn't have time to do a full examination on this phone. But I did a brief one and thought it may come to it's senses down the line like all the other phones I ever owned. But Nuh doesn't look like this one is going anywhere in terms of twrp recovery. Or any recovery that helps the user flash on the fly.
I will rant on about it, that's why I created this thread so we can rant. If you not happy to rant don't rant. Lol

Yeah, sad and restricting. Don't know how anyone can think this is a step in the right direction, really.
Tinkering with your phone without having a proper Nandroid backup is a no go, for me.
So far this phone is not what I expected it to be. Came from a OnePlus 7 Pro. Is it smoother? Probably, can't really notice. It is faster in regular use? Well no. Are the cameras better? Sure. Can I really play with it like you should be able to on a rooted phone without any fears of losing hours and hours of time? No, 'cause no TWRP/Nandroid.
Real shame.

Yeah dude, I did read the thread... Seriously, you bought a pretty expensive device without taking just 2-5 mins to check up briefly about the device. Rant away my friend, rant away. Doesn't bother me, just sharing my 2 cents!!
FWIW I do actually agree with you, twrp is becoming harder and harder to flash with various methods, banking apps are detecting unlocked BL's etc. It is becoming a bit of a nightmare!

According to TWRP website, "is done by roughly 4 people at this point." For all other phones and everything else, they depend on volunteer "maintainers" as "We can’t afford to buy every device made" (source: their website About & FAQs). So if you wish to learn to become a "maintainer" to bring it to the P7P, or commission an expert to voluntarily "port" it to this device....
This is how TWRP comes to devices. It's not like Google pays them, or anyone pays them to get it on devices, so ranting and demanding it with that expectation is unfounded. Also, it's well established that they have been having issues/problems with the next version of Android each time -- starting from the Pixel 5 when it moved from Android 10 to 11, then by the time they got it working for Android 11, Android 12 was released and they weren't able to get it working for that, and by the the time they were "beta" able to get it working for Android 12, Android 13 released and they are not able to keep up.

I do truly miss & regret not having Nandroid backups anymore! It truly was a pure, whole snapshot of your whole setup where, if anything happened, you restore it from there and ABSOLUTELY everything was restored like the second you backed it up...! Nothing now compares....
RIP TWRP you're always missed.
Thankfully Pixel Flasher "kind of" seem to be more and more like TWRP but on the computer. A/B really killed TWRP hard.
Really, after my OnePlus with its quirks and requirements, the 7P seems like a breeze to flash and root...
