I am a vanilla Android guy, and hate all the Samsung things about my GW4. The Pixel watch doesn't look like it's going to be my thing, aesthetically.
Is there a Vanilla Wear ROM floating around out there that would work for the GW4? I bet it runs a zillion times better than this clunky moshpit of Wear and Samsung mashed together.
I would also be interested in it. I think it should be enough if we could use "vanilla wear os" home app instead of "one ui watch Home" you can find it under apps "choose default app" section.

I know it's not what you want but there is another home app for Samsung wear os called bubble cloud launcher. It takes a bit of a learning curve BUT I have found it's better on battery life than regular watchfaces with lots of complications.

Unfortunately there isn't, mostly because there is no root options for Samsung watches, and because Samsung hasn't released the firmware to the public so there's no base to build a ROM on with drivers and firmware because Samsung refuses to let the public make stuff.
Samsung released Source Code for Kernel for GW4 and GW5... available since monthS
Samsung Open Source
opensource.samsung.com
So this is not the problem...
Problem IMHO... to use netOdin for Custom stuff... to bypass Security check.
Because only way confirmed via USB cable... and ODIN...
Maybe look here:
Rooting Galaxy Watch4
I've unlocked bootloader, got boot.img(hashes match in update.zip and my boot.img + it boots fine), patched it and vbmeta in tar by magisk 24.3, but when i flash new boot.img, it throws me "SECURE FAILED: BOOT" error on watch and system doesn't...

So one of the biggest features that I've looked forward to when Lollipop was announced was the smart lock feature, especially the trusted face one. I was so giddy when I finally got to test it out when I tried CM12 build, though it didn't function as well the way I saw it perform on my friend's nexus 7. I was so excited to try this out when lollipop was leaked both to the Note 3. I was utterly disappointed though that it was missing. I've tried beckoning the few developers who have cooked up ROMS from the leaked lollipop.
So I guess this is me beckoning everyone else who have the means to try and figure out if Samsung simply buried trusted face or not and if it is possible to bring it out.

try clicking on the hidden content. I wasn't referring to smart lock in general, I was pointing out that trusted face is missing from the smart lock features.
here's an example:
i see what you mean now however i don't think Samsung disabled it though. I think it's tied to the Google play services app.
i was able to get trusted places by installing a leaked apk from APK Mirror

hmm okay, I really tried researching on it but since lollipop isn't official yet on most Samsung devices except for a few ones that already got an OTA(S5) and nobody really ever bothered, I think.
I've updated my google play services and I still don't have it, can you link it by any chance?

trusted place has been there since the beginning, I was referring to trusted face--which still isn't there even with the latest google play services.

Ok i guess it's been left off official builds for now
Is there any way whatsoever to make it ask me what default app I want to choose each time. As in, the old Just Once/Alway complete action dialog?
I've tried Complete Action Plus. Doesn't seem to have any effect.

Nope. It's lollipop forced. Maybe marshmallow it changes... Get used to it.

I'd love this too, but unfortunately I don't think there is. Sucks because I have to keep switching between Adobe and Write on PDF for my business. **** is annoying.

I just came across something last night that's a decent workaround for most things.
Better Open With (sorry, no link; new member) prompts you with it's own UI, which is still pretty intuitive. It works by having you set the default application for each intent it supports (which isn't a lot, but it's most) to itself. Then, when you open something, it will bring up it's own dialog box that's pretty similar to the old style.
It doesn't have as much customization as Complete Action Plus did, but it gets you 80% there.

I thought it was lollipop forced as well, but both my Note 4 and my Note 10.1 2014 are running 5.1.1 and give me the choice of running specific apps just once or always, could it be the Note 5?
Sent from my SM-N920T using XDA Premium HD app
So I pair my Gear S3 with my PH-1 and got that all going just fine. Pairing another phone always involves resetting the watch so I have to go download a few apps afterwards and I can't! I get an error from the Gear app's store saying "This device does not support Gear."
Everything else has worked fine up to this point.
Also looks like I can't install/use Samsung Pay for it either.
Super lame.
Had this problem on the mi mix and the G6. I'm pretty sure Samsung has to update the app... It got updated pretty quickly for the G6 but never got fixed for the mix... Pretty much a crap shoot on if they will update it or not.
S3 works perfect on my mi mix running resurrection. Got the s3 to connect to my essential but software crashes when I try to install Samsung pay.

Ya, I'm paired and running ok. Getting notifications and all that. Just no additional apps or Samsung Pay.

It didn't used to work on the stock rom on the Mix. Maybe it does now, not sure as I don't have a Mix anymore or a Gear s3..lol
I don't think Samsung knows WTF they're doing. Just chatted with support about this (after being directed to one support site based on my Play Store review that later told me that wasn't the right place to go)...
Here's how that went:

I MIGHT try to chat again and get a different person but this is ridiculous. They apparently want Essential to update their phone, because it is new, to work with the Gear app...
[Same thread in S8 Q&A forum]
I asked this in the specific Hades android 10 ROM thread, but mabe this solution works in any One UI ROM.
AFAIK the steps to find a solution would be:
1. Figure out the processes involved in making the keyboard cover work.
2. Extracting them from a (or almost) stock ROM.
3. Flashing on top of the ROM in TWRP
4. If it doesn't boot up or is unstable, try editing the ROM myself replacing the new apps with the old ones.
5. Flash again
If it works, then perfect
If not, find a workaround with some external apps.
7.Make the keyboard stay always on screen.
8. Set up a keyboard that exactly matches the case. Maybe the native samsung keyboard from Pie itself works with this.
9. Lock the screen rotation.
10. Have a quick toggle to add and remove the keyboard cover settings and link it to the bixby button for convenience.
I have absolutely no idea about ROM development, so any help would be most helpful. thanks!

Hello @corsicanu and congrats on the great ROM.
I'm asking you and anyone who has some experience in android ROM developement if it could be possible with a bit of tinkering to add support for the keyboard cover.
I know there's some remnants of code of it in your ROM cos in first boot, in the setup wizard it was attatched on the back side and a message popped up telling me I could not use it while setting the phone up (as it said on first boot on Pie).
AFAIK, there would be several processes involved in supporting this keyboard cover, from the Samsung keyboard app itself to some other system processes. Probably some background log registers which processes start runnig in a stock Samsung ROM and from then i'd have to export them to Android 10.
I don't know how hard is to grab them from a pie ROM, replace the Android 10 parts and hope it all work together while fashing in TWRP, or just have both apps in the same ROM and disable the newer ones and start tinkering.
Is there some signature or something required while flashing it?
If you could guide me to some material to start figuring this out, It'd be most helpful. Thanks!

Hi!
How's it going trying out to make the case work?
I recently found this case on Amazon for $10 and had to get it although I don't own a S8+ myself. Next task will be to buy a not too expensive phone and start to experiment. I have no knowledge either of ROM development but will try out different ideas on how to make the case work. Would be nice to have it still working on an recently updated phone.
Hi there,
recently I purchased the obove mentioned Smartphone.
Its my first Samsung and I was quite scared by the encroaching behavior of OneUI, paired with Google this a no Go.
I heard, that Samsung has locked my Phone very well, so please kann you give a Guide how to get LineageOS on this Phone.
Btw. i live in Germany and i wonder how I came to an US Version of the S10e .....
Thx a lot in advance
If it's the Snapdragon SOC the bootloader is likely locked.
The Samsung UI is extremely customizable. Galaxy store, choose a theme (the native high contrast one works well), then free icon pack, then choose whatever wallpaper you want.
Turn on dark mode.
Get the Good Lock family of apps especially One Handed Operation Plus and these:

All Samsung's should be optimized. I use most of the Samsung apps instead of Google except for gmail and gmaps. Google play Services is normally temporarily disabled unless I need it as is Playstore. It increases speed and reduces battery usage.
Disable global power management and deal with power hogs on a case by case basis. Use app settings first and either Package Disabler or adb edits to take out the trash. Don't go too nuts, dependencies! Most of the small Samsung system apps should be left alone as many provide functionality and appearance enhancements for the UI, they use very little resources.
Disable Bixby and disable the cloud crap if you don't use it. Battery hogs. Get a V30 rated SD card like a Sandisk Extreme and use it as the data drive, all critical data goes here, then back that up.
A stock N10+ (Pie) tricked out as described.
Thank you for the Answer.
But thats not what I had in Mind. I want to get rid of all the Samsungness' Samsung is calling more home than Google. For privacy reasons, I wont use Phone that way.
Btw.
Its a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 with 8 Cores

Use a firewall to lock it down. Bixby is the worst in that respect, read its EULA for fun, it's nasty.
If it's using the Snapdragon chipset loading a custom rom probably isn't doable. If it's the Exynos chipset you can.
I used Android Debloater and AdAway. Now i'm feeling much better with the phone
Thx
