I have a Zenphone 6 US version that I bought in 2020 in the U.S. while living here in Ireland. I ordered from Asus directly and not through a carrier. When I first got it I was unable to get mobile data. I was able to fix this by updating the APN no problem. I recently had to wipe my phone and reinstall everything so I lost alot of settings. Now when I go to APN Setting I get the "Access point name setting are not available to this user" I this something the added with the updates? Does anyone know a work around. I know rooting could be an option and I may finally go that route but if anyone has any other suggestions that would be great!
Thank you!

Ok, so I've been with Simple Mobile for a while with no problem. The default "Access Point Name" is T-mobile. The new access point name is Simple mobile which after set up all I had to do was move the green dot to "Simple Mobile". Now, since I've updated to gingerbread via LG update tool which installed successfully, I set up the simple mobile access point name and moved the green dot to it. The data then works for about 3 minutes and then the green dot moves back to the damn Tmobile access point name. WTF? I called simple mobile and they said it was because my phone is not unlocked and once I've downloaded the LG update they locked my phone automatically.
Well, I just unlocked my phone and same problem. Can someone please help, this is really annoying. Everything else works.
I to am having the exact same problem.. Exact same phone, exact same carrier.. There has got to be a way to set the simple mobile apn as the default apn
I am using my G2X in Thailand. I set up my provider as a new APN, selected it and exit out. Everytime I reboot it stays. I think the problem you are having is that Simple and T-Mobile have the same MCC and MNC. At boot the phone reads the sim and sets the APN based on MCC and MNC. In your desired setting change the APN Type to "internet". Maybe this will cause it to become default when you boot up. The TMO one has no setting for apn type. Should be a way to delete the TMO one but it is locked in as default.
Also, flashing new firmware to an unlocked phone does not relock it. I unlocked mine, flashed the GB update and it remained unlocked.

NOt sure if will help u but my buddy had the same issue simple gave him what he needed to edit his acsess point just click on simple and there should be a list of stuff they should be able walk you thru it. His is working just fine now hope this helps.
Are you setting up a new APN entry name "Simple" with apn "simple" and apn type set to "internet"? My settings for my carrier in Thailand are persistent upon reboot. If they don't stay then I would think it is because the MCC and MNC belong to T-Mobile and the phone defaults back to the locked in T-Mobile apn. Otherwise you just have to set it every time and don't reboot so often. There are apps in the market that will set an apn for you upon boot. Maybe you need one of those?
So I bought the HTC Once E8 from Etotalk, which came with all the Chinese apps removed and the Google Play store added. I went to the ATT store to get a nano sim, and calls and texts work just fine. My issue is with the data connection. I have done a lot of google fu, and have tried the same settings that people are using for UK M8's but am still having issues. From my understanding the bands are supported, so It should just be a configuration issue.
Would anybody be able to shed some light on this for me? This is my first overseas phone, and I have only had experience with vanilla Android installs to date.
Also, the first thing I did was install the software update from HTC, which probably wasn't the smartest move. I don't see how this would affect APN settings though....
Let me know if any other info is needed, thanks in advance for any help!!

You probably lost the etotalk modrom while updating, but that shouldn't be a big deal. Though it may have overwritten the predefined APN settings?
Did you manualy check your APN settings under settings --> mobile data --> sim1 --> access point names?

Yeah that's what I think happened, is that I lost the modrom. I wouldnt think that would affect the APN though, isn't that supposed to be unique to each country, or something of the sort? I will send Etotalk a message and ask them if there's a chance that could be it anyways.
I have indeed tried keying it in manually, trying every combination from default, to the one I got from the ATT rep, to the ones I have found online from different forums.
Fixed
I tried using the legacy cingular APN. Apparently my grandfathered unlimited data plan was on these old codes, ie. 3G only...
Thanks anyways.
I jumped on the $250 eBay deal for this phone. Today, after installing my tmobile SIM card I can talk and text fine but the mobile data is not functioning. I've gone into the "Data Manager" menu and turned on the "mobile data"...airplane function is off....performed a factory reboot, and still nothing. What am I missing? Do I need to do an APN configuration? Being an unlocked phone, I thought it was a matter of plug and play. Data works fine in my moto g. Please help. Thanks

Yes, get your apn settings from Tmobile and enter inSettings, Networks, mobile networks, access point names. Create a new APN for t-mobile...save....choose the new apn. .... see if it works
Yes, sounds like you'd have to enter APN values, especially if voice and text are working. Not all phones auto populate APN values.
Not sure if these APN values are correct but it's a starting point: http://apn-settings.com/t-mobile-apn-settings-step-by-step-configuration/ . This is T-mobile's site for generic data settings for non T-Mobile phones: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2090
You guys were spot on...contacted tmobile and they had me up and running in less than 5 min with the proper APN config. Thanks for the help fellas.
Now if I could just get the latest software update without having to purchase the gophone SIM/plan...
Does Hotspot feature work for you?

Sorry to revive such an old post, but I am thinking of doing the same thing right now ($200 for a new unlocked AT&T Flex2), and wondered if your WIFI Hotspot function on the phone works with TMobile?
I've tried other AT&T unlocked phones on TM, and when I turn on the hotspot feature, I get a network error.
Thanks.
ps. Can you post the APN settings that TM gave you?
Hey all,
So as the title says, I recently got a replacement unit for one I lost. This one came with 5.1.1 so I'm currently on a rooted stock debloated AT&T ROM. Just put my SIM in it, text and voice work fine, but if I turn data on nothing happens? No data symbol, nothing. I'm in Australia, and want to try enabling more 4g bands in the hidden Menu, but I went through the whole thing and couldn't find where to enable them? If someone could help me out it'd be appreciated.
Cheers
maybe you have to add the correct APN for your provider. I am in the US so I don't know Australia's provider.
Hi guys,
I've been running the stock rom (6.0.1) with RingPlus for about 4 months now, and just got word that they were discontinuing service. I canceled my service with them and have moved to Tello, which many of the users on RingPlus were saying was a painless switch. I've received my Tello phone number, and activation/provisioning instructions, which I've followed several times. I'm able to make and receive phone calls, but don't have 3g or LTE data.
From my experiences with Nexus devices and AT&T MVNO's my gut says it's an APN setting, but when I browse to the APN list the whole list is grayed out and unchecked, the add button is also grayed out.
Does anyone know how to open this up?
This issue is solved. I used a hidden menu (##3282#) to view my APN settings and they were being pulled from Tello. Later in the day my phone randomly did a prl update (several dozen had been done since posting this thread) and after that update everything worked. My best guess is that the line wasn't fully activated.
Hi Thunderbolt,
My phone is rooted and after putting in the MSL and dig down I have the same issue as APN Type and many other options are greyed out. I'm with Sprint. Looks like you haven't done anything and it automatically became available. What's Tello? Do I need to install any otger app to get the access? Thanks.
I'm on Stock TouchWiz Marshmallow on my S5 Sport G860P and my APN settings aren't greyed out, but they don't save when I add the proper APN for my FreedomPop SIM I received yesterday.
Is there a way to unlock this phone for free? I bought it on Ebay used and it has a clean ESN. I'm not the original owner so I don't have to Sprint account number and I may not be able to get it because it was purchased from a reseller.

What does it mean to use a hidden menu? And what is Tello? I am having this problem as well and would love to fix it. My issue is ultimately about not sending and receiving MMS consistently. But having the prn menu grayed out isn't helping my efforts to fix it.
Thanks!

Open dialer Punch in ##3282# this brings up the hidden menu for a lot of things.. Choose edit, and if it ask for you MSL enter it, then go to apn settings and you can add one, it should not be greyed out.
