Does anybody have any idea when/if the "iAnnotate PDF" App will be actually available in the "S Choice" on the "Galaxy Note"?
This is an iPad App and it's site says there is no Android version yet, but it's featured here:
samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxynote/note/applications.html
as a major app... However it is not pre-installed on my phone and is not available, as far as I can tell. Some other apps featured here are available, but this one is not. Not yet, anyway.
I've noticed that launching Samsung Apps requires the SIM in place. So is it possible that this App is available in Samsung Apps store if accessed from, say UK, but not when accessed from US?
Thanks.
P.S. I live in US, but my Galaxy Note came from Germany.
That site you linked clearly states that the apps mentioned as "Coming Soon".
This could be one good app for us

that app does look very nice considering it might have weight effect on the pen. Unfortunately i have been using a pdf nnotator on the noe which didnt have a weight effect but i recently had to remove everything from sd card because i was getting too many adverts and it kept turning off randomly.
I want that old pdf annotator back now! i think i had one in word as well, it was very nice.
the reason i am here though is im interested in the best way to look at multiple pdfs and multitask! would it just be a case of using like four different viewers?? i think i am answering my own quesion really, unless there is a way two have an application open twice.

That's funny...
The "(coming soon)" next to some Apps wasn't there earlier.
Now it's pretty clear that their release is simply delayed.
As a matter of fact, Goodreader for ipad is the best annotate pdf app out there.
it has a useful feature to extract all text highlited both with goodreader, with adobe acrobat, even with the galaxy note only worthy program for pdf editing: ezPDF.
even adobe acrobat can't extract highlighted text content (if it's not highlited in adobe).
basically, i am saying that iAnnotate functions are all there with ezPDF for android. i've tried also repligo reader but pen interaction is bad and everytime you lift the pen while ending the highlight, the text is deselected again.
what i am doing now is using dropbox to get the pdf, annotate and stickynote with ezPDF, then saving back to dropbox, edit them if necessary with adobe reader, then when all editing is done, i use GoodReader to extract just the annotation and sending them via eMail back to me.
got it?
PV.
nice work. will definitely look into this methodology at some point, presumably you have an ipad stuck on your desk then ?
i know what you are saying about adobe not even being able to highlight highlighted text aswell thats really annoying.
my first step is to re-install ezpdf because i accidently uni stalled it ..
although we're all screwed over with no pressure sewnsitivty in the note's ezpdf, iannotate will solve this though no-one likes writing then highlighting the whole thing to delete too!
I want this app as well... in the hope its a bit better than the .10c Ez PDF Reader Pro I bought...
"Lite" version of this App is finally available!
I think it's not compatible with our Note.
Edit: I finally downloaded app from Samsung App, looks promising but still too simple, I hope this app will be properly developed to reach the same quality as on iPad.

It works on mine, but it's pretty basic. They promise to keep adding features in the coming months...
yes it is, I have it installed, you need to get it from the Samsung market, not the Google/Android one.
Could someone generously provide the apk? Thanks in advance.
FYI, the "iAnnotate PDF" has been available from the Market for awhile now. It is more stable and has more options than the "iAnnotate Lite" version available from the "S Choice".
True, I didn't see it on the play store though, but I have seen it in the S-Choise.

I tried iAnnotate and wasnt that impressed.
I've settled on QPDF Notes really good, allows me to annotate, drawing, scribble, highlight, you name it. :good:
Hello everyone, Moleskine Journal app is finally released on Samsung Apps ( I only found it available on Spain's app market for now) and supposedly it is going to be exclusively on Samsung devices for 6 months. It might not replace S Note or Lecturenotes for everyone, but I found it to be quite handy and useful for quick sketches/notes. I'm a big fan of Moleskine and been waiting for this app since it was announced in August. Hope you guys will like it.

Thank you, I'm glad to see other users making use of this app. I wonder when it will be publicly available in the US and other countries.
Moleskine Journal for the Note 10.1 and Landscape mode
Thanks silverbladef
Upon reading your post I've seen that actually in Samsung apps (Spain) there is it, but only selecting as device the Note and the Note2 and not the Note 10.1.
Hopefully there would be soon a slightly different "tablet" version of the app since, it seems to me, the one for the Note works only in portrait mode and a tablet user should be able to work in landscape mode too, as it can be seen in this document by Moleskine.

thankyou!
Amazing ! I Know it's no S Note but amazing to have
It seems to be a special Samsung version that requires touchwiz to work.
Does fc when opening on CM10 based rom.
Update
The app has been updated to v1.1 and now it is compatible with the Note 10.1 (portrait mode included.) I tried to search for it in the Samsung App Store but no results came up, so you have to go to the "Best S Pen Apps" section and you should be able to see it there.

Great! Thanks silverbladef for the heads up!
The new version (1.1) is finally usable with the GNote 10.1 as it can work in both portrait and landscape mode.
I've tried it (for about half an hour) and my first impression is that there's very great potential but also some work to do... (see "cons" later in this post).
Yet I find it the most simple and effective note taking app amongst the ones I've tried so far.
It has almost all of the essential tools I judge as important and necessary for a S-Pen enabled tablet and some more.
Some of them are:
Free hand pen writing with pressure sensitivity.
Quick commands to change the pen/brush/pencil size/color/transparency
Text box insertion (and editing function at a later time)
Quick tool to free-hand select part of the ink writing or some text box to copy or move it to another position.
Quick way to use image/ink writing or text clips saved in "the pocket" to use them later, also in a different notebooks (this feature is rather unique for note taking apps and could be very useful for some type of usage!).
Some of the cons I've found so far:
There's still some excessive lag in opening the notebooks, in executing some commands and in navigating through pages.
Lack of some custom settings.
Automatic saving process is not fully reliable (i.e. even if almost always the notebook is automatically saved on exit, in some cases during the tests I've made, it wasn't saved and I haven't seen a command to manually save it...)
To summarize I think that the app needs some more testing and streamlining to be used with a 10.1 tablet, but, if the developer goes on to work on and improve it, it will probably soon become one of the best note taking apps (together with my presently favorite one that's LectureNotes).
What I liked most is the ratio between the effectiveness of the available tools and the simplicity of the UI and of the settings.
Yet to improve further the app I think that some few settings should be addedd (i.e. to create custom pens/brushes, to set the pressure sensitivity level or to create more custom templates).
I agree with you. As a big fan of Moleskine, this app probably would never replace S Note for me. I use it if i wanted to sketch or write something quickly with the same feel of the physical journals I posses of. It needs a lot of improvements to be done, a better reliable back up system, and autosaving for sure. One thing I noticed is the pencil/pen setting always defaults to a thicker kind of pen and I have to readjust it every time I open a notebook, frustrating.
I really hope they continue to develop this app, but it has some serious issues. It is soooo SLOW! When a page has any significant amount of writing or drawing on it, it takes ages to load the page, or switch to a new page in a book. It must be storing all the lines as vectors, because even after erasing all the lines with the eraser tool, the page still takes forever to load. Even with a blank book, it takes a couple of seconds to switch to a new page.
The color picker lets you choose a transparency value for a brush, but it doesn't work except for the marker tool, but only if you change transparency, and then adjust brush size.
With a graph paper book, switching from landscape to portrait will mess up the graph paper and make it not square. You have to re-select the graph paper background again to get it back to normal.
The brush size will reset itself when switching from landscape to portrait.
When doing small details or letters at a medium to slow speed, they are automatically deleted.
I like the idea of this app, but right now it really stinks, usability-wise, I'm surprised they released it in its current state.
password problem
Since the update my password doesn't work and I can't open any password protected books. Anyone else have this? Any way of getting into the book?
Other than the apps that come as part of samsungs note package what else do you use that takes advantage of the spen. I intend on getting a few different drawing apps, but was wondering if there was anything that I hadnt considered that really shines when using it with the spen.
Thanks
Not strictly a drawing app but I like "LectureNotes" a lot, you can configure the button on the pen to be an eraser toggle which is awesome. The UI needs some improvement but as far as functions goes this is way better than s note IMO

Papayrus is another good one, though I think I prefer LectureNotes for most uses. LectureNotes is amazingly customizable and the developer seems very responsive (there's a forum here on XDA that he seems pretty active on).

Side question (hopefully not hijacking this thread!): I can't figure out how to make use of the S-Pen button in LectureNotes (or anything else for that matter)--any time I hold down the S-Pen button and then draw (to erase, select, etc.) I just trigger the snapshot utility built into the OS. Can these functions not coexist (ie, do I need to just disable that snapshot utility to be able to use the S-Pen button in other apps like LectureNotes)?

For LectureNotes you only need to press the pen button once while hovering to select the alternate tool (eraser, cutter, ...) and it will change to that tool. After one use it will change back to the previous tool you had.
More apps need to make use of that pen button, there's so much potential.

Great. Thanks! This is what I was hoping for. Not necesarily drawing apps, but other apps that people may not have considered for their notes.
I read good things about MyScript Notes Mobile on another site but haven't had the time to try it out yet.
Also 6$ seems quite hefty for an app without a limited trial or something like that...
Also have a look at S-Pen Voice and Snap Pad, both available as freemium apps.

Yoko

ArtFlow Studio: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bytestorm.artflow (cant post link yet, sorry), a holo themed drawing app.
Disclaimer: I'm a developer so I'm not quite objective , but basic features are free (and ad free) so you can try for yourself (full functionality can be unlocked by single in-app licence purchase).

I think LectureNotes could work for you. I believe you can use it in either Portrait or Landscape (I always use Portrait, personally). You might be able to sync the files between devices using Dropsync or FolderSync. I use Dropsync just to backup the files to my Dropbox account. I've not tried to sync between devices. You'd probably need to be careful to only open a note on another device after it has synced, or you'd likely end up with collisions.
There's a thread here on XDA where the author ( @acadoid ) is very active.
It is a great app--I highly recommend it!

thanks for the tip, i purchased lecture notes yesterday and it was exactly what i was looking for. i also contacted the developer with a question or two and he was quick to respond and helpful.
For stuff that didn't come standard issue the only app I really tend to use with the S-Pen is Skitch, I find it lightweight and perfect for simple markups that won't need S-Note's more productivity oriented GUI.
Not a fan of Quill, it's too clunky in the UI (unlike S-Note) and I'm too lazy to try Papyrus again even though they both support the S-Pen.

Snap Pad is pretty darn useful. :3
I was wondering about this myself as I am trying to decide if I should get the note 8 or not. This info is helpful. thanks.
Lecture Notes is rocking my world. Leaves S-Notes in the dust.
Without GMD S-Pen Control my S-Pen would be less than half useful. And, of course, Lecture Notes.
For syncing App Data (for example Lecture Notes) between devices I think DataSync+ is a better solution than Dropsync or FolderSync, both are more useful for data which is not hard linked with apps.
With DataSync+ I even sync Notes from AwesomeNotes between Note 8.0 and N7000.

According to the Samsung rep I spoke to, there are only certain widgets that will work on the outer screen. I'm wondering if that's a defined list and will always be just that, or is it a matter of devs being able to add other apps' functionality on the outer screen as well in time.
A couple of examples that come to mind -
Maps navigation using the outer screen
Quick replies on texting apps. Whatsapp has reply templates and I use those a lot for standard replies. Would be real cool to not have to open the phone unless it's to type a proper reply.
I use Gmaps on the phone to navigate, and having an extra-long and relatively delicate screen open at all times isn't ideal. It just seems intuitive that the 2" screen could show nav instructions the way it does on the notifications shade.

It's loosely possible now by spoofing one of the existing packages. The reason Samsung Health was selected is that it was the easiest one to replace because you can uninstall the app. With root, it would be possible to override the other widgets without causing a collision, too.
You would think Samsung will eventually publish some sort of API for it. They are big on that.

Could you explain the bit about Samsung Health? Not sure where that's coming from. I've noticed Samsung has the jetpack windowmanager library in their dev notes that recognizes the fold state so apps can make use of Flex mode. I'm assuming it's a matter of time that they also do something similar for the outer screen, given that it's their first device with (a somewhat usable) one.
I've not been on Samsung since my S2 about a decade ago so not sure how dev-friendly and quick they now are.

[App] SubUI-browser: Browse the web on the cover screen

If you look into the code, that uses the package names for Samsung Health. I assume it's on some sort of whitelist.
Wondering what the actual difference is between them. I am hesitant to go deep into trying them as I'm still setting up other stuff on the phone, and I don't want to bork something, but eventually I'll probably try them both. Was just wondering before I do what the actual pros/cons are of them. They seem to... imply they do similar things, but the examples are few and far between (especially on the samsprung one).

SamSprung TooUI never required deleting Samsung Health and could never be added to the widget list. It was the Z Flip 3 Launcher, which was remade into SamSprung, that could replace Samsung Health to run as a widget. Somehow, a year later and having posted it everywhere, we still get people asking why SamSprung is not in the widget list and why they had to remove Samsung Health.

Both have very extensive bug reporting features, or at least I assume because most of what I add has been mimicked. I can't speak for the other one, but if you reported it on SamSprung, then it was investigated.

https://github.com/SamSprung/SamSprung-TooUI/wiki has a bunch of information and being the first of its kind to release, SamSprung was used in a lot of videos on how to run apps on the cover screen (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=SamSprung). Most of the videos are a bit dated, so again there is no deleting Health and no widget (Android 11 loophole). It gives you the general idea, though.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/samsprung-tooui-cover-screen-home-free-zf4.4484079/ is the thread for SamSprung on Z FLip 4. I can't really give you a comparison, though. The short version is that I started an open-source project to compensate for a shortcoming that got played off as an "original" idea for profit. Rather than stress about it, I ignored the author.
Best thing to do is try any that seem interesting and if there is one you like that has an issue, see if you can get it fixed or deal with it before moving on to your second choice. The only one that really "is what it is" is good lock because they are affiliated with Samsung and still hijacking the widgets. For some, that is an advantage. For others, it's restrictive.
I have tried CoverScreen OS from @jagan2 and it`s really as best as it can get!
It transforms the coverscreen to a full fuctional ... mini phone.
