I have annoying problem with my smartphone. When I take it out from pocket (where it sit most of the time upside down) and I unlock it fast with fingerprint, sceen goes horizontal, vertical, horizontal ( or the other way) until it finally stops vertical. Is there some kind of way to have it locked vertical when it starts unlock and keep it like that just for couple seconds ( I need autorotate to be turned on all the time/ the problem is just in those few seconds)

That is probably a problem with how you're holding it when you unlock it and how quickly you're unlocking it.
Yes, I do it quick. But it is really annoying when this happens several times a day

I am either going nuts or this is a common isue:
Normally when you tap "lock" on home screen the brightness diminishes and the phone is locked. To unlock, you have to tap "unlock" on the lower left side of the screen, hen you get a message telling you to tap again unlock in the middle of the screen and its unlocked.
Well, my Polaris only does this sequence sometimes. Especially if I let it go in standby for a couple minutes, as soon as I press any key I get another story:
In lower left corner of screen I have the word" cancel". Tapping it doesn't give me another "unlock" button on screen and the phone remains locked. I have to put it in standby from the power button and then try again to get the normal unlock behaviour.
Anyone else experiences this?
Nobody? So everybody's unlock feature works like it should?
Then I think it's reset time for my Polaris....
I personally don't use, the device lock feature... Just the standby, whith the HW buttons off... and it works just fine for me
I have noticed that when you press the central button in the TC, what you describe is what exactly happens. But this happens to me only when I do that. If a tap the screen without touching the button, I have the normal behaviour.
Yes, exactly.
@gnick: if I use the standby with HW keys lock it works ok for me also.
The issue is only with the HTC Home lock feature and the central key

Yes, but very rarely and even then when I press Cancel the normal lock screen resumes and I unlock in the normal way. I have "Do not lock all buttons" selected in the Key Lock settings. Don’t know if this is significant.
2 stages for screen lock?
I use my TC while riding motorcycle, so I want several apps (TomTom, gps tracking [gps.run]), music [was WMP, but now Coreplayer] and TellmeText) running and the screen off so as to save battery power.
If you press the power button when key lock is on it will turn the display completely off, and *most* programs will keep running. TomTom is a notable exception- it stops working, presumably because it can no longer access the gps?. But better behaved/next generation GPS apps such as run.gps continue to run. WMP, bless its pathetic cotton socks, seems to work sometimes!
Are these inconsistecies uinique to my unit, or known quirks?
Anyone suggest a app that will turn the screen off and allow ALL open apps to run, including TomTom?
Thanks
I don't know how you're operating any of the buttons on the TC with riding gloves on!!

anyone got anything more useful to add to what was a serious comment/Q
Man, the battery life sucks on this device So my quest on how to turn the screen completely off and lock the keys properly while running all software (especially GPS based such as TomTom) continues....
Anyone know of a 3rd party app that will do this?
I have not read all 200 pages, but it seems there are mixed results for running S2U2 on the Touch Cruise (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353008) ? Anyone having success?
Thanks
I know its late but I just saw this and thought I would mention that I managed to over come using TomTom without the device being on. However it doesnt save much on power as the GPS device need power to work.
But I using a simple function I wrote in my application to lock the device using the standard device lock API calls and then rather than switchingthe device into sleep mode (off) I switched it into IDLE mode, which is basically just switching the screen off, the device lock prevents any unwanted button presses.
The power button would just return this back to normal.
I have not yet worked out how to stop the device brightness changing when the screen lock is enabled on the device... :/ Which is my next task.
Ramakin...
well that would be great because even saving having the screen dimmed during lock would help battery life. And, pressing the power button to resume would be MUCH easier than stabbing around at in the sun trying to unlock the screen. It would also make TomTom behave like all other 21C GPS applications, i.e. run on idle.
So, can you send details?
During a recent motorbike trip where I just used TomTom and tracking software (even turned the phone off) I was SHOCKED at how crap the battery life was
Hi guys,
Strange things started to happen after my OTA 2.3.4 upgrade yesterday. Maybe it is a coincidence but 5-6 hours after I did an upgrade my lock ring started not to work that smooth as before and I'm completely sure I didn't have it yesterday ! I mean - very often I can't drag this lock ring into the middle of the screen to unlock. It simply does not follow my finger and goes back to the bottom of the screen. The other thing - my back button refuses to work occasionally. For the first time (after two weeks of usage) I was not able to use it, no response at all ! I need to push the button 4-5 times and then it starts working. It is easily repeatable - simply try to launch your text messages or phone directly from the lock screen, use you back button (it should work for first few times) and then turn off the screen to lock it. Repeat it several times and at one point it will not react on back button pushes. It will respond after 4-5 times.
I know there is very similar thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129272
But does anyone of you suffers this issue just after upgrading to 2.3.4 ? Or is this just a coincidence ?
This happened to me with the previous rom. 2.3.4 is excellent
Hi everybody,
I found fix to my problem. It turned out the reason for this was my screen protector. What is interesting it is original screen protector from HTC ! So one time when I couldn't get my lock ring to the middle of the screen I took out the screen protector and voila ... everything is working now like a charm. I suspect that the screen protector got harder or something after little sun exposure. HTC - shame on its poor quality !
But I still do have problems with back button, but only when I run apps directly from the lock screen. Otherwise it works always, so for me it seems like a software bug ! Will write to HTC to report it to them.
This isn't happening with my phone. I have 2.3.4
so my girlfriend and me both have an S6, but I noticed an annoying thing.
The lockscreen timeout, when the device is locked and you press the power/home button, mine goes back to black in about 8 seconds and that is nice, but my gf screen, goes out in less then 5. not enough time to see all the notifications. i googled a bit and seems others encountered the same issue. even some, less then 2seconds. now i would like to know if others have the same short time or is mine pretty long or any way in changing the duration...

It's because you have power saving mode on.
Nope, it is not active. When it is activated it indeed goes off withing a second or 2, but when off, mine does 8 seconds, hers about 4seconds.
If you want, I can make a video... I'm using pattern unlock, on both phones. I notice on mine, when I press the home-button, it takes about 2 seconds for the message to drawn the pattern, to show on the screen, above the dots. On hers, it is immediately. So that is 2 seconds "faster" for no reason.
All of a sudden my lock screen turned grey with two question marks down the bottom. Fingerprint unlock doesn't work and I have to swipe up, enter my pin which takes me to my normal lock screen where I can then unlock normally.
The grey screen displays the time only which doesn't update, it stays the same no matter how much time has past.
I have no idea how this happened or how to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Couldn't find any similar topic except in forums for s10+, OnePlus and other phones. Sorry if I missed anything.
As in the subject, after unlocking, approximately half of the screen flickers black and goes to the home screen. It takes less than a second. Always top half, bottom half shows home screen right after unlock. This does not happen on each unlock, but also, there is no pattern - it can be after 5 or 30 unlocks, it can be after 5 minutes or 10 hours of not using the phone. It started mid-July and not only annoys but is starting to worry me. Solutions from other threads didn't help. For example:
Fingerprint sensor problem - I don't use it, I have pin lock.
Samsung Pay issue - I don't even have it available, so, don't use it either .
Animations - setting them off did not help.
I cannot guess anymore what would be the cause, if it's some app which wakes up after unlock or what else. The only thing I've changed (except updating apps) was adding another sim card, but my tiny little brain cannot find connection. I didn't test removing it as I need this sim active and don't have backup phone right now. Also, I would really like to avoid resetting the phone...
Did you experienced anything similar?
Thanks a lot for any help or suggestion.
are using Samsung or some third party launcher. Did you wipe cache? Latest firmware updates?
Yes, I did both, firmware update and cache wiping, no change. I'm using stock launcher.
did you try in safe mode to exclude some app causing it
Yes, I tried safe mode without success.
i would take it to Samsung repair centre if pos
Thanks for trying and all the steps. There's nothing like that where I live, neither any advisory place except for hotline. I can drop it at their service but will need to wipe it down before, which I keep as the last resort. I'll keep waiting for another firmware update and if nothing changes then I'm willing to do the hard reset. I just hope it's not a symptom of some virus - I'm trying to be most careful, scanning device periodically, didn't root, so I naively count on being safe...
i don't think it's virus. fingers crossed it's just software issue
hi again, just to let you know, I think I know what was causing this flickering and now I feel silly . Home screen rotation. I had this option turned on, and it's possible that sometimes, when I put my phone on the table, home screen rotates to horizontal position. Of course it locks after few seconds. I've noticed it completely accidentally, because one time, when screen flickered black there was slow-motion rotation animation in the background (which I've never seen before). That's why flickering was completely random to me, not connected to any type of notification whatsoever. Well, it's not, it has a pattern . I've checked it plenty of times and each time I lock my phone with home screen in horizontal view, but unlock in vertical, half of the screen is flickering black. That's it, at least I believe it must be this, because it happens each time and never when I lock my screen in vertical position.
Once again thanks for all the help!
