Lockscreen Timeout Issue - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so my girlfriend and me both have an S6, but I noticed an annoying thing.
The lockscreen timeout, when the device is locked and you press the power/home button, mine goes back to black in about 8 seconds and that is nice, but my gf screen, goes out in less then 5. not enough time to see all the notifications. i googled a bit and seems others encountered the same issue. even some, less then 2seconds. now i would like to know if others have the same short time or is mine pretty long or any way in changing the duration...

It's because you have power saving mode on.

Nope, it is not active. When it is activated it indeed goes off withing a second or 2, but when off, mine does 8 seconds, hers about 4seconds.
If you want, I can make a video... I'm using pattern unlock, on both phones. I notice on mine, when I press the home-button, it takes about 2 seconds for the message to drawn the pattern, to show on the screen, above the dots. On hers, it is immediately. So that is 2 seconds "faster" for no reason.

Problem with my Display or the phone software?

Hello,
I have a very strange problem with my HTC Touch Pro phone.
I'll explain my problem:
When you turn on your phone and you are on the "Home page" (the page where the time is displayed) there is a bar at the bottom of the display.
This bar says Phone and Programs.
When i access my volume control by using the 2 buttons on the left side of the phone a black screen appears with some bars on it to indicate the volume. Note that the black bar with the Phone and Programs buttons is gone!
But the problem is that i can slightly see the Phone and Programs text trough the black screen of the volume control...
The first time i turned on my phone it was clearly visible, but after hard-resetting my phone 3 times it seems to be all gone now.
What could have caused this problem? Are these texts burned into my screen or is my screen sensetive to white letters?
I really dont know what to think about it because it seems very strange to me that it is now gone after 3 hard-resets...
Does anyone know what may have caused this problem?
edit
When i still had the problem i checked out if the text that was visible on the volume screen was the actual text that should stand in the black bar on the bottom, but when i accessed the volume control from the Programs tab (notice that the menu bar then displays "All programs" and "Remove"), but the volume controll still displayed Phone and Programs, so it isn't the actual text that is visible, so it cant be something like a shine-trough or something like that.
Really dont know what to think, at this time 3x hard-resetting the phone helped and the texts aren't visible anymore, but i'm still worried that my screen is over-sensitive or maybe broken or something =\
edit
The text is getting visible again after having my phone on "stand by" for 10 minutes.
Does anyone has a solution or does anyone knows what the problem can be? i would like a awnser today because i could go the the store tomorrow, i may be able to switch it for a new one if the screen is really broken.
Hope someone knows more!
edit
Maybe some of you dont see it on your one Touch pro, but you will if you REALLY look close at the bottom left and right corner in your volume control screen.
Could it have something to do with lazy pixels or something?
edit
It seems to get worse when i have the phone and programs texts on my screen for 10 minutes, and then switch to volume management. Are my pixels lazy or something?
The longer the screen stays on with the Phone and Programs texts on and the icons of the menu etc, the more you see when you turn on volume control.
it just looks like it burns into my screen.
Take care! Maybe it burned into your eyes!
No, serious it cannot burn into your screen.
Only CRT screens can burn it, not TFT.
Hmm ok thats true haha,
But what else can cause such a problem... it is only visible if the phone is off stand by for a few minutes.
I had my phone on stand by the rest of this evening and just turned it on and now it is all gone again. But if i put my phone on the home screen for a few minutes, so with the texts, then its visible again on the volume controll screen
Had the phone on standby the whole night and now the texts are gone again.
They seem to get "burned" in somehow if the phone is off standby for a few minutes, but then when its on standby for a while they are gone again.
Just wanna know if more people have the same problem, or else i could send back my phone to HTC for a repair

Well that seems to be the problem over here...
But when i turned on the phone for the first time there was much more "image burning" on the screen, and at this moment it is all gone ...
Could it be that the screen had to "warm up" or something because the phone is just 2 days old. The longer i used the phone the less the image burning is now.
Do these screens have to warm up or something when you turn on the phone the first time?
They shouldn't... Especially if you bought it locally, I'd take the safe road and return it. I'm not sure if it's exactly what that source describes, but I don't like taking chances with phones as expensive as this.
Hmm ok, thats wierd because the more i used it the less burned in texts are visible.
at this point there is nothing visible on my screen anymore ..
isnt there ANYONE else here that has the same problem or that wants to try it out and leave the phone off standby for some time ?
Someone that has the same problem, or someone who wants to check their phone for the same problem?
I dont know if i should return my phone for a repair..
Problem is getting visibl again,
Have used my phone some time today, but i didnt have it off standby for longer than 1 minute, and still there is a white bar slightly visible on the volume controll screen.
This is definately a problem with the screen right? something like Lazy pixels or something..
Anyone that can help?
btw, its seems that only the white colors get burned in
edit
It only seems to get "Burned" in when i'm in a window with white bars or spaces, and it fades when i have the phone on a black screen for a while..
And it only happens with the HTC Volume app?
no, but its good visible on that screen, its also slightly visible on the home screen etc..
It doesn't only burn in when the phone is off standby, but it also seems to get worse when the phone is ON standby... what i mean is that it doesn't fade away right away when the phone is on standby...
Just went back to the store to get a new phone.
I checked right away if the new phone also has the same problem, and it does...
texts also seem to get burned in for a while on this new phone, but also dissapear when the phone is unused for a while...
Could you guys check your phone's if you have the same problem?
Just use it for a while and check the volume control window if there are images still slightly visible on the screen.
Hope someone can do that for me!
edit.
Could i be SO unlucky that i have had 2 phone's of 1 wrong production serie?
Can anyone please check out their phone for the same problem?
I would like to know if there are more people experiencing this problem so that i dont have to return my phone for the 4th time =)
also i have spotted this problem. but it happened just a few times when the phone was hot (using gps).
Mmm ok, and you had the problem the exact same as me ? visible on the volume control screen etc?
More people having this problem?
Would appriciate it if some more of you could check it out for me
It never happened on my Fuze, I think it might be a bad batch that your store got in. That could be why when you returned it you're seeing the same things, a lot of people with yellow spots in their screen returned theirs and got the same thing in the next one.

AT&T Fuze screen issue - bottom menu-area of screen is flickering almost constantly

AT&T Fuze screen issue - bottom menu-area of screen is flickering almost constantly
(Forgive me for the length of this post. I am just trying to provide as much information as possible! If anyone has encountered this same or similar issue, your help is greatly appreciated).
I need help! (professional and otherwise) ...with my AT&T Fuze (rebranded Touch Pro).
I am developing a game for Windows Mobile called Scrobble (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3206316&posted=1), and I left it running overnight.
My screen is set to turn off after 1 minute, and my device set to sleep after 5 minutes when plugged in to external power.
I had the Fuze plugged into wall outlet power to recharge. I left it lying, like I always do, face down on a black soft-leather CD case (so the glowing charging light doesn't bother me).
I left it alone for the 7.5 or so hours I was asleep. When I woke up in the morning and picked it up, the screen was on. It usually is not on, and I don't think I pressed the button to activate the screen.
When I looked at the screen, the Scrobble program was still running, and the bottom menu portion of the screen was flickering. Scrobble has two menu buttons at the bottom -- "Turn" and "Game" -- with a SIP keyboard icon in between them (same as nearly all WM apps).
In any other program, or the Today screen, the menu portion of the screen flickers (the brightness constantly and rapidly fluctuates consistently... like a fluorescent light that is on its last leg).
I did a full power off and power on, and during the "world phone" screen and the the AT&T 3G "power up" animation, the flicker was -not- there. But as soon the Windows Mobile loading/splash screen appeared, the flicker returned, in the exact same spot.
And I can see the ghost "Turn -- [SIP] -- Game" menu in the flicker. But I don't think it's burnt into the display, because it's not there during the first two loading/splash screens.
Currently I have the battery completely removed from the device and will leave it out for a while. If that doesn't work I will do a hard reset.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! (This device is about 2 months old -- does HTC provide any support for it directly?).
Fixed
Phew! My screen flicker issue is no more.
I'm not sure if it's because I took the battery out and let it sit and think about what it had done for ~22 hours, or if it's because it just went away after a while (with the battery out for 22hrs). But either way, my Fuze is back to normal!
So if anyone leaves theirs on overnight and wakes up in the morning to a flickering ghost of a menu at the bottom, my suggestion is to fully reboot it, then take the battery out and leave it out overnight!
(It's kind of nice going a full day without any phone calls!!).
good for you.. you dont need a new phone giving you damage issues already... glad to hear that its gone
Thanks you for this post. I am going through the same thing with my ATT Fuze. This time it is Tomtom that I left running overnight with the screen turning on and off. I can add that the flicker and ghost is there the second the phone powers on. I have already hard reset and took the battery out for a few mins, but the flickering still there. Now I will take the battery out for several hours and hopefully it will be normal again.
I had a similar issue this week. I was using the phone all day, getting emails and phone calls, no problems. I get home and go to charge my phone and it doesn't appear to be charging. I flip on the screen and the whole screen is flickering on and off like it's not getting enough power. I charged the device over night, hard reset, pulled battery for 24 hours and still it won't go away. I just got the device thru amazon so I already reordered a replacement.
I've never left my screen on for hours at a time and I sometimes run into that same issue. The bottom of the screen flickers, and I can see a ghost image of my left and right soft keys when doing things that pull up a dark grey or black screen, like adjusting the volume. I usually try a few soft resets, and if that doesn't work I turn it off and take the battery out for a while. From what I am reading it seems to be correlated with extended periods of screen usage, but my screen has rarely been kept on for more than 30 minutes at a time.
Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but I was just having the same problem with my Fuze: the bottom quarter of the screen was flickering, but without the ghosting you spoke of. Out of curiosity, I went into my "Power Settings" menu, and for some reason the "auto adjust backlight" was unchecked, and the brightness settings were maxed out. I checked "auto adjust backlight" and the flickering stopped. Not sure why, but thought I'd add it to the thread.

Yeah I did notice that it's only really noticeable when the screen is set to max brightness. Setting it on auto adjust cleared it up for me also.

thx guys...helped me out too...
Just sent my unit in for repair (under warrenty) due to the screen flicker issue, lets see what happens when it comes back.
I just started to experience the flicker today. Has be somewhat concerned. The device is only two weeks old.
However, it seems to have stopped by itself while I was searching the forums for an answer. If it returns, I'll try the 'remove battery' method and see if that helps.
Also, I love Scrobble! Shame it doesn't work on QVGA displays. Or, at least, didn't on my Wizard...

Hey guys there's a thread with the same exact issue and a screenshot on the first post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=535099
Seems to be something related to the Hardware 3D Acceleration driver for Windows Mobile, I get this problem only once 3d has been activated.
If Sense/TF3D is turned off, I never see this problem. It only comes up once a game or Sense has been launched.
I can also boot into Android without 3D activated and not have this problem, but if I run Sense then go into Android I get the flicker from a Windows Mobile screen while in Android.
protwitness: That doesn't seem to be the case (for me, at least.) I don't run TF3D and it still happens. I can't really discern what the trigger is, but I have a feeling it has something to do with the screen brightness auto adjustment. (Sometimes, I'll turn my phone on when it's dark and it jumps to full day-light brightness for some reason.)
I've adjusted to it and it doesn't really bother me any more.

unlimited vibration

Hi guys,
When I get a message the phone vibrates 3 times, like normal. But sometimes randomly it vibrates 1 time and then unlimited vibration. Until I get it out of my pocket and press the powerbutton so the screen goes on again. When the screen is on again the phone resumes the 2 vibrates. Very strange. I had it on multiple roms with different radio's. I don't use TF3D but HTC Home Plugin VGA edition.
I've experienced the same issue you speak of with the stock ROM, and I haven't found a solution or cause yet either.
I think it was this what caused my phone to sometimes go out. Because the vibration consumed all the power.
Do you use Touch Flo?

That would be the angry bee. It is something that just happens. I've had it so bad that I have had to soft reset the phone. It only happens to me every great once in a while. However, I haven't run the stock rom since about 2 hours after buying the phone.
has happened to me twice now.
ive had the phone about 2 months.

I've had it happen to me a few times and had to soft reset it to make it stop. It doesn't happen too often, so I haven't been too worried about it.
I've had it happen when I launch an application just as it is starting to vibrate to signal a notification.
Do you guys also always have it as the second vibration? When it hangs it always is the second vibration at me. And when I press the screen again he makes 2 after it again.
I had a similar issue with the initial stock rom - my wife messaged me in the middle of a meeting and my phone would not STOP VIBRATING. Since it was on the desk, it buzzbuzzbuzzed really loud.
Now I'm on the Energy 3.0 rom and have not had an issue. Even with the updated leaked stock rom I didn't have the issue.
I discover that it only vibrates wrongly when I have the screen off. Pretty annoying though.
Don't we use some kind of stuff in common?
I use:
HTC Home VGA Edition for front end instead of manilla
HomeScreen++ for the handy shortcuts
I checked some things again, I am not 100% sure but I think it was HomeScreen++ that caused the problems here. The exact settings: at the Tools tab "Lock if Display is Off and vice versa, which didn't work anyway at the touch pro (did work on htc's I had before though), but I checked it off and now it still rings 3 times and no less or more. Hope this was it.
I do not use HomeScreen++ and it happens to me at least once a day, sometimes twice. Mine always seems to happen on the third vibrate, it will do the first two and then the third one just stays on. I press the power button for the screen to come back on and it stops.
I have it too sometimes.
EnergyRom 3.0
And you guys have something that auto lock the screen when you press the power off button? Or do you lock the screen before pressing the power button? Because here it seems to have something to do with the locking in combination of the standby mode (screen off)

Potential fingerprint scanner issue?

I have a S7 from AT&T, non-edge. I have the lock screen setup with the fingerprint reader and a pin code.
95% of the time, the fingerprint scanner works the first time.
4% of the time, it will work the second time.
1% of the time, it does something VERY strange. If it fails the first and second time, it will NOT unlock the screen using the fingerprint reader unless i enter the pin code. It will let me keep trying my fingerprint, but it will says its not valid. I can enter the pin code, unlock the phone, relock, then boom, the fingerprint reader works again. Its like once it fails twice, even though the phone lets you keep trying, it doesn't really read it.
Has anyone else experienced this? It's very annoying and I am wondering if I should RMA, or if this is a software issue.
Finger print scanner indeed suck.. Just make multiple imprints of same finger.. Get every angle possible.
Only time I have to enter my pin is when I reboot the phone. It wants my pin instead of my fingerprint. After that first time though the fingerprint is all I have to do.
when entering a fingerprint each time change the angle of the chosen finger slightly as you press the home key having multiple images at diff angles lessens the chance of not getting a match.

This has taken some getting used to, coming from the Nexus 5x... its fingerprint scanner is so much better.
On the nexus, you go from a black locked screen straight to the home screen in a split sec with a touch of the scanner that's way more accurate and gets it 99% of the time .
With the S7, I'm having to press the power/home button, then scan, which gets it right more like 65% of the time. And is a 2 step process. Or hold the home button down and try to time it just right- too soon and it doesn't read.. too long and i open google now... haha too complicated. I'm almost thinking there's an issue with mine it's so inaccurate. Or maybe i'm just spoiled to the nexus...
Bottom line= LG & Google implementation= much much better.

Press and depress the home button quickly, but instead of taking your finger off the button immediately, keep it on there lightly touching for a split second. It's not that difficult.
It works for me on the first try 95% of the time. The other times it's my fault for not covering the button but instead getting just a corner of it.
I also set it up with both thumbs and both index fingers and it works with all. I'm quite pleased
I've been having aroung 50% success rate on the first time with the fingerprint scanner and about 95% on the second attempt. I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong. I've made the fingerprint profile many times, change position and angles but I still can't get it to work reliably. I wish i could see if theres any gaps, or maybe tone down how "strict" the scanner is.
I've found another flaw in the finger print reader... I'll describe the issue, then upload a vid to show it.
My screen is set to lock/dim/shut off after 30 seconds. At which time you'll have to press the home button OR power button to wake the phone, followed by using your finger print to open the phone.
However, within a few seconds of the screen shutting off you can just press the home button with any finger even ones you've never registered a print for and it will unlock the phone.

There is a setting, which by default locks the phone 5 seconds after the screen turns off. During that time you can just push the button and no need to unlock.
But if you push the power button to turn the screen off, if locks immediately. There is a setting for that as well.
Yea...that's not a good thing. Should not be on by default.

It works 100% of the time for me if i press the home button and leave my finger on it. Its not even a tiny bit innacurate. Maybe your fingers are greasy.
The reading from screen off sounds a bit better but is essentially the same thing. Just on S7 you have to actually press the button down rather than just press the finger on the sensor. Im not sure why the added pressure makes it that much worse.

That's an android thing. My previous LG and Motorola phones had the same settings by default.
It is convenient because if the screen turns off due to timeout while you are reading something you can quickly turn the screen back on without having to unlock it (password unlock can be very annoying). I gotta tell you if that feature didn't exist, I would have to set a really long screen timeout because I do quite a bit of reading where I don't touch the screen for a while and the constant need to unlock would drive me crazy.
Plus, an extra 5 seconds (added to the screen timeout) is unlikely to make it insecure. If you hit the power button to turn the screen off, it locks immediately. I think it's the best combo of convenience and security.
i'm just saying i feel like that goes against the "security" of having your phone.... your phone could get stolen while unlocked, and all they have to do is set your screen to never time out and now they have access to all your info...

I someone steals your phone, while it's unlocked, they already have access to all of your data. The 5 second delay isn't going to make a difference.

Question how to fix random black screen after opening phone

My z-flip3 5g has a strange problem. If i close it (by folding the screen closed), then after opening (unfolding) the screen and touching the right side button/fingerprint reader to unlock it, i hear the quiet "click" noise that indicates the phone is unlocked, but the screen stays black. i then have to repeatedly push the lock button on the right to lock the phone again and unlock it again. after several attempts the screen finally turns on. sometimes it will go black a few seconds later and the same issue continues. but other times the screen will stay on and work fine.
i have noticed that if i do not close the phone (folding the screen together) then i do NOT encounter this issue. the phone screen turns on when pushing the right side button (or touching the fingerprint sensor) and everything works fine.
this issue started yesterday, a system update installed yesterday as well, could it be related?
i already restarted many times, booted into recovery mode and wiped the cache. nothing has helped. the only way to avoid the problem is by not closing (folding the screen shut) the phone.

I have same behavior. Did you solve this problem?
Unfortunately no. Did a factory reset, hoping that would help, but the issue persists
Mine has recently started doing the same. Last update was right before this started several weeks ago. I don't have mine set to require fingerprint, it should just turn on after opening. If I open it partway, it will turn on, then turn back off when fully opened.
hi,
i have same problem, it's software problem?
Not completely sure about that. They update this thing so often, it could be coincedence that it started shortly after an update. I want to try blowing out the hinges as I've got some dust under there that I hear when opening the phone. Definitely not a phone to put in your pocket after working in the wood shop!

and donĀ“t take it to the beach either!
What is also strange is that when I close the phone and open it a few seconds later, there is no issues whatsoever. However, if I leave it closed a few minutes, then when opening it, the problems with the screen staying off happen.
Yes, definitely don't take it to the beach!
@netridah , mine is doing exactly that. Which makes me wonder is it a wake issue, or a mechanical/sensor issue with the hinge.
one more to the bill
I checked the flexes and I warmed up the logic nothing works
I have the same issue: Flip 3 - 5G with OneUI 5.1 - 1 April Patch level
When I open the phone I eventually see for less than one second the lock screen, the goes black and unresponsive.
Then I have to press the button to turn the screen off (even if it is already) and then re-press the button or use the fingerprint to turn it on and it will work (eventually, sometime I have to do it a couple of times).
I already googled it on many forums but no solutions, I've tried to:
Disable the always-on display - no result, at first looked like it did the trick but the day after was having the same issue.
Check all the updates of the system components like always on-on display (settings --> lock screen --> always on display --> info), no help everything is up to date.
Hi,
I have the exact same problem, only difference is that I'm on the z flip 4.
I get the black screen and sometimes when opening or closing the phone the screen can flash in a bright yellow or green color.
I got a motherboard but the problem continued
Next step changing screen is very expensive at the moment
This is driving me crazy - also started the day I updated to OneUI 5.1.
Hoping for a solution soon!
I am also encountering this problem, I went to samsung repair shop 1 month out of warranty, sales person said it is a screen issue and needs to be replaced for 430$. Mine was before the update, i took mine near the pool, got wet maybe, as the alarm for usb charging mentioned unplug it immediately, day after it began randomly dark when phone is openned fully. Zflip 3
Oh just an update, i did some tinkering today, Good lock all updated, disabled clockface, sprayed some contact cleaner on power button, and hinges, fold close and open for a minute or two, fell asleep for 1 hour, and when I woke up, my screen works back to normal, it wakes up when unfolded, no more waiting or hitting the power button several times. hope this stays like this.

Hi, few days now, I still have occasional blacking out, I've tried putting my phone on safe mode, and this seems to solve the problem. I suspect it may not be hardware fault, but 3rd party software, "good lock" or something else that conflicts wit one ui, that makes the flipping open lag waking up. Contact cleaner used for electrical stuff
Didnt use my z3 for about a week let the battery drain.. then charged it too 100% without turning on the phone.. my phone back to normal now.. hope it works for you guys
Hello,
I am using Z Flip 4 and last night I started having this problem as well. I can confirm 100% that my phone has no hardware nor a history of impact of any sort that's why it's really frustrating having this kind of problem.
Has anyone already found a resolution for this problem?
Z flip 4 here also. Had the same problem with the screen. Took the phone to Samsung and they changed the screen, frame and back panel's for free under warranty.
They said it's a hardware issue.
So better to take the phone to Samsung.
