This is not new to my 6a, but is consistently annoying. I use the power button 100% of the time to turn off the screen. But sometimes when I touch the FP sensor to turn it back on, I'm forced instead to use my PIN/pattern with the message "Device manually locked". What causes this and why does it happen seemingly at random?
Fortunately Smart Lock keeps it unlocked most of the time around the house...
Smart lock will require you to reauth every 4 hours. There's also a setting under "Screen Lock" - "Power button instantly locks. (except when kept unlocked by Smart Lock.)"
I've turned on Always On Display now too. This enables the sensor to be used without having to turn use the power button or double tap screen.

How is the battery life after turning on AoD? Did you feel any difference?
I need to test further. It is still deep sleeping fine and the AOD is off when the proximity sensor is covered, so the difference should be negligible.
Its usually like 3-4%/ hr with AOD on and <1% with it off

So should that option be turned off? I turned it off today and it seems to be working better. I guess what's not clear from the way that's worded is, if the power button doesn't "instantly lock" it, does it eventually lock based on a timeout?
I think I'm also getting better at using the sensor. It seems like it only gives you a couple of tries before forcing a PIN unlock and I think I've sometimes touched the sensor too lightly or even done sort of a double tap and used up all my attempts at once.

No difference. If anything it's better, lol. 3% over 5 hours. This is with the phone turned facedown so the display off. Deep sleeping fine.

Hi everybody !
Here is another alarm clock, but different
The light of the screen wakes you up, and if you are really tired, a backup alarm sound is played.
It really works if you sleep in a dark room, and because the phone is near you, you are the only one to wake up silently. You don't bother madam.
Also, in the evening the phone goes to sleep (dim the screen light, turn off sounds, wifi...) and wake up in the morning (everything turns on)

This app is still in developpement, please report bugs if you see them (menu / bug report). All the features are not done, so they can be desactived.
PLEASE SET UP YOU USUAL ALARM SOFTWARE IN CASE OF BUG.
For example if you want to wake up at 8am, this software will open at 7h30 with the minimum brightness and increases softly until 8:00. You HAVE TO set up you usual alarm software at 8:02 in backup.
Here is the description for the market (if you see mistakes, plase notify me, I'm not english) :
This gorgeous software softly wakes you up. It turns your phone on 30 mins before the alarm with the darkest screen and increases slowly the brightness.
In the middle of the process it can play birds sound, and if you didn’t wake up 1 minute after alarm time, it plays a strong sound to be sure you don’t miss. It also let the phone check the emails by turning the notification sound off and the wifi on. So when you wake up, you don’t have to wait to know what’s new
If you sleep in a dark room it really wakes you up with the light, and if the phone point at you, your wife doesn’t wake up !
One more thing: This software is able to turn your phone in a “night mode” the evening, and turn back in day mode the morning. And so it shuts down the notification sound, the wifi…
This app is free for standard use, with the best settings. If you want to customize if, please leave me a few money (you choose!) and everything will be unlocked.
For those who care, here is the explanation of the authorizations:
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
CHANGE_WIFI_STATE
WRITE_SETTINGS
To open or close wifi, the evening or in the morning.
WAKE_LOCK
DISABLE_KEYGUARD
DEVICE_POWER
To turn on your phone and change the brightness of the screen, to keep the phone on.
FLASHLIGHT
HARDWARE_TEST
CAMERA
To make the led flash light blinking at the alarm time.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED
To activate the software after a reboot and set up the next alarm.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
To write debug logs, in developer mode.

I don't know if I'm barking up the right tree, but my CM9 auto-brightness is too bright. I've tried tweaking the light sensor levels, but, if I understand it right, they're not being honored. IN the screenshot you can see that my sensor is currently reading "100" and the screen's brightness is maxed to 255. But my levels say anything between 100 and 500 should set the brightness to 67. Am I not understanding what I'm doing, or is it just broken?

I'm pretty sure there's always been something up with the auto-brightness on CM9. For me at least. I've mentioned it before but didn't get much of a reaction. What happens to me is that, if I'm sitting in a dark and set the screen brightness to auto, it'll immediately go down to fully dimmed. And then I go and start reading xda or whatever. Then my screen times out and shuts off, and when I wake it back up the brightness goes to fully maxed. And only by toggling auto-brightness off and back on will it go back to fully dimmed.
So that's my experience with auto-brightness. I've never manually tweaked the levels, but I would imagine it wouldn't even matter if I did.

"Allow Light Decrease" is the Key
I finally stumbled upon some information in this thread: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/23464-toro-b32-lights-decrease-when-allow-light-decrease-is-unchecked/#entry641152
It seems that "Allow light decrease", which was unchecked for me, is quite important. I just assumed that the automatic backlight worked continuously both ways -- brighten when outside, dim when inside. But that's not the case. Without "Allow light decrease", it only ever brightens and then stays there. It will reconsider when you unlock your screen I think.
So I added a 5s window filter, enabled allow light decrease and *bam!* If I put it in bright light, the screen gradually brightens. It I go back in the dark, it soon dims. Exactly what I always wanted.
It now obeys the light levels!
Hmmm unfortunately that doesn't seem to be fixing it for me. If I quickly double press the power button to turn the screen off then back on, the brightness will go from being fully dim to fully bright, same as before, even with that checked. Real annoying haha.

this was my solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828180
Edit: though I'm surprised you get anything at all, my cm9 light sensor page says -1, maybe its an issue with InstigatorX kernel, idk. But the app I linked in the other thread works for me.
I use double tap to wake almost exclusively to turn my screen on, but I find some of the other HTC motion gestures annoying or problematic. For example, I have pulled my phone out of my pocket, while accidentally holding a volume button, and the camera app opened. This is generally an annoyance, but I have had this occur in a dark room followed by blinding everyone near me with the flash. I'm using ViperOneM8 at the moment, but didn't see an option to selectively enable these gesture controls.
Under display and gestures in settings.

I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. I want to disable to landscape+volume to turn on camera, but I want to keep double tap to wake. I don't see any option to do that.

Completely agree with you; I find myself triggering voice calls more frequently than I'd like. Unfortunately, the current ROM only permits "all" or none with the motion gestures (hopefully they'll fix that if enough folks complain).

That setting only affects the volume button function while the screen is already on.
It is a all or none approach as a previous poster stated as far as I can tell. Can wait until the devs figure out how to mod that.
I just got the Sprint GS5 last week and have been slowly Turning OFF some of the bloat ware and downloading apps that I use. The past couple of days I have noticed that I charge my phone to %100 before I go to bed. I sleep for like 5 hours and when I wake up my phone has dropped to %89 battery. I went to settings>battery and have noticed that NFC services is causing the most batter drain....even though I have turned it off, forced stop and turned of S beam. I have also tried to turn it off and then reboot and charge phone, but I still see the NFC services draining my battery. Can someone please help?

I personally do not use NFC so I just froze the service in Titanium Backup.

I am not rooted and it won't let me turn nfc off. When I click on the tab in settings, it is gray and "on". It won't let me change it.

That is odd. You should be able to toggle it off in the settings.

Yeah, I know but when I go to that screen, it is grayed out and I can't toggle to off. It's also the cause of my battery drain. Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried turning off the phone and pulling the battery? If that doesn't work the only other thing I can think of is a factory reset.
Hey!
So last Monday my Xperia 5 III fell and now the screen cracked.
As a side effect, I can't access the camera, and when I try to use it it says that there is an error (Plus, the flashlight claims that the camera is in use).
I suspect that the fall somehow triggered the camera to be always on, and now the battery drains quickly (It went from 100% to 10% during a 6 hours sleep, with the screen off).
Do you think I should send it for repairs somewhere?
Should I try to open the phone myself?
Or should I just give up on it and buy a new one?
I've attached pictures of the phone, the flashlight saying that the camera is used, and the Pro app saying that there is an error.

Always use a good case...
Impossible to tell what's wrong without tearing it down. Mobo damage is a definite possibility.
That would effectively total the phone.
enable the turn sensors off button in developer options, with it enabled you can disable the camera from the pull down menu

I enabled it, but I don't see anywhere that I can control which sensors will be turned off.
And it seems that the camera is still in use, since the phone is still overheating.

Hey, I opened the rear part of the phone, I tried to remove the cameras and various other sensors and nothing changed, do you have any idea what it could be?
Im amazed people make threads for this.
Yes, you should obviously send it to a certified Sony repair center, yes it will be expensive and yes, buy a good case and screen protector.
