Question Buggy device after modding - Moto G Stylus 5G

I recently modified my Moto G Stylus 5G 2021 with TWRP, Sekiyama, and Magisk. After everything was said and done the device is very slow and the System/System UI frequently freezes, along with other apps. Will be happy to reply with any data if needed. Assume i'm dumb and that i may have forgotten a step (e.g. changing a setting). I'm on the TMO variant.

Hm. I noticed that too at first when I first installed the Sekiyama-Kernel, TWRP, Magisk and Modules... I then noticed that if I had stock kernel instead of Sekiyama-Kernel then performance was noticeably increased. I've got the XT2131-1 Boost Mobile variant running stock kernel 5.4.86, TWRP (touch screen works), and of course Magisk... I dont know if the culprit will be Sekiyama-Kernel for you as well but it's worth a shot to try stock kernel and see if it makes a difference.
The performance is so far from buggy, laggy that I just literally streamed Diablo Immortal to twitch, lol. The game runs perfectly no lag or buggy... just a thought...

Alrighty, thanks! There will apparently be an update to twrp soon that should fix some of the issues with touchscreen not working for some users. Ill probably wait until thats released before i switch back to stock.

Hi how command enable diag the xt2131-1

I've been getting notifications popups about "verifying my contextual audio output" alot of time when in games and it lags out the game during this verification process(only takes 3-4 seconds each time) every 20-30min sense I've rooted. It's not much of a bother I just wonder what it's trying to do cause it only does it during games for most part. Not using any headphones or Bluetooth. Just the main audio speaker in the phone.

I've been running this ROM for last 2 days now & not had any issues at all. Did you dirty flash or do a full wipe?
I had frequent SOD so I couldn't use as needed reboot quite often. Wouldn't wake from any long period of standby.....could be kernel related and linked to double tap to wake.....

I been using for quite pretty much a week or so, and have zero issues, it's doing great in every way.
And about camera? I've been using snapdragon camera, but photos are really pixelated and out of focus a lot of times, I tried several apps, but no success... Any ideas?

I've just been using the standard camera that comes with the ROM which to me seems to work ok, also the zte camera from the stock ROM works pretty good too!
I liked ZTE camera too, but is it available and working for this rom? I installed one version that didn't worked well, lots of FC

Here's my copy of ZTE Camera, http://www.mediafire.com/download/3gdhkc1pkdwdzw8/zte_camera.zip
Ok, already downloaded and tried, no luck... Still not satisfied, too much noise on the photos, but I think I know what the problem is... I also have a LG G4, and the photos are superb, and comparing both phones is not really fair, but I'm forced to compare... But thanks for the camera app, going to keep it.
I've just flashed the rom and working perfect... Thanx man..
2 days edit;
just an issue for this rom, I got a little bit heated back near the camera. when screen is locked, it's 39 Celcius. but while I was using Whatsapp and Facebook I checked it in CPU-Z and around 55 Celcius. Is it normal?
...yes, I been noticing that too, I think that the kernel does not have any thermal control enabled by default, just go to Kernel Adiutor and enable the thermal option, enable Core Control only. It's pretty much just a guess, but I think it may solve the overheat problem... By default it doesn't seem to have any thermal control enabled, you have to manually enable it . The best way is to ask the developer, Nutsda, I'm pretty much just trying to get there...
Thermal control should be enabled by default, if it isn't then enable it using kernel auditor & yes it does seem to be normal, I was reading a while back that it is a issue with the chipset our phones use & other phones using the same chipset, to run hotter than most phones, sitting between 50 & 60 degrees in use. The only real way to lower the temp is to drastically reduce performance
True, it's pretty much confirmed, have done some research and this chipset caused heating problems to several smartphones, it's not even about the phone brand, it's pretty much about the Snapdragon 615. In my phone it easily gets 65.C, but it's not big deal, if it fries up Vodafone will have to give me another one.
can do a port of rom miui 8 or rom pac?

[Q] Why is my N5 so slow ?

I can't really put my finger in the cause, it seems to follow all N roms (though most are based on LOS, so..)
Sometimes the device crawls to a standstill, until i'm able to close all open apps, and then it gets snappy again.
I would consider this device at least as fast as my M7, but although the One is slower in general than the N5, it never gets slower...
I don't have weird apps installed, the most crazy ones are the Facebook messenger and chrome, the rest is google apps and whatsapp...
mine is showing same behaviour since a few days ago, ive enabled sync and enabled cm email, others things ive done is installing tumblr, i think some apps that works on 2nd plane arent managed well with ram autokill and somewhat with persistent services.
ill clean flash and disable sync forever [emoji14]
other thing ive noticed is other storage is permanent oversized and the phone cant really know whar is this

Is it insanely hot when it slows down? If that's the case it's overheating for some reason.
I used to have that problem last year. I kind of fixed it after I formated the memory while I was trying to have F2FS. I knew i'd lost everything in the memory so I did a backup and trough TWRP changed the partition to F2FS and it helped a lot. A friend's tab had the same problem and he fixed it that way

Or maybe it went out of memory? Although I doubt it. One thing that comes to mind is mpdecision, sometimes it shuts down all cores except 0 and won't switch them back online, forcing you to do it manually or somehow wake it up. Have you tried keeping tabs on your cores with a monitor app? Anything mpdecision-rated in logcat when the crawls happen?
I was on Catacalysm until nougat, which can be considered stock. didn't have speed issues then.
when I flashed nougat all 3 roms i flashed had annoying lag which was not acceptable.
eventually me and other users discovered it was happening because of the memory filling up.
apparently the phone needs quite a bit of free memory to work well. tweaking memory management through kernel editor solved it for me.
I can't tell for sure if that's your issue but u can give it a try.
What I do is that I clean flash about every six months, generally upgrading to a higher version of android (stopped after 6.0.1 tho cuz of xposed), after backing my media. Once I restore that after the flash, I always have more space available than pre flash and it feels a lot faster. Might be a placebo, might not. But is it stupid if it works?

Your findings are consistent with mine, it seems the device is running out of memory and is trying to swap out heavy apps to make do, namely chrome and facebook. While it's doing that, it's slow as hell. I've also had launcher re-start, like if the OOM had it killed.
Which settings did you tweak ? LowMemoryKiller ?
Yep, LMK set to exterminate.
I wonder what the original configuration was, not only for LMK but also CPU gov etc, Because honestly I think that even after tweaks it was still better on stock.
In general nougat doesn't really add much for me, M was great, I was in a hurry to upgrade because I had play services battery drain bug on M. That was terrible.
Also I noticed mine is thermal throttling really quickly, I don't know if its normal or not. I've been thinking about improving cooling with a mod but at this point my N5 is on its way out. In november I'll close 4 years with it and I'll get a new device (maybe 1+5?)

It's all because of memory,
3/4 cores are going offline and online regularly, but sometimes cores won't go online which create frizzing untill cores get online,
For solution you should be first root then install kernel editor you like and edit core to performance or high performance,
That solved my problems.

What gapps are you using? Using pico or Beans mini will let you put most of your Google apps on the user partition and not the system partition. You could also try an AOSP based ROM instead of a LOS based ROM like Krexus, Pure Nexus or Tesla

I tried PureNexus, but it hasn't been update recently. I also suspect of a bug in LOS, since it seems to follow all roms, no matter the builder or kernel.

Using small gapps packages frees up space in /system, I never use full gapps packages on my Nexus 5 and I've never experienced this slow down you're having.
Pure Nexus just updated on May 13th, Tesla updated today. If you choose to flash one of them, be sure to wipe system in advanced wipe as well as data and caches before flashing

I don't think the suggestions in the last few comments will help. I'm pretty sure it's mainly a memory management settings issue.
if you want here's my profile in synapse (kernel settings editor you can find on google play). I'm currently testing it for a few days and it seems good so far but I still need to test it under really heavy load.
I'm running nitrogenOS with the kernel that comes with it. if you run something else you may have to tweak it a little.

CrDroid Oreo version for Mi4c

How is your opinion about this ROM.
It is very good and customizable with a ton of options.
Only thing that is boring sometimes is lag when open apps. Waiting for 4-5 seconds to.open it.
Does someone know how to avoid that lag?

But messing in the Settings, menus and that kind of stuff on a fresh installation seems to me the same as in Nougat. On my phone, lag appears in crDroid O (and all the Oreo builds) when I'm switching and reloading apps, with many apps installed and many processes running in the background. In this situation (regular use, not setting up the phone) I feel Nougat is better than Oreo.

Well, I'm not really complaining about Oreo, I know it was a hard work for its developers and builders and all the enthusiastic guys involved. The real accomplish was to be able to install and use Oreo for Mi 4C, almost bug-free. There are many alternatives to Oreo for Mi4C, even now, when devs are leaving its boat for other devices. MIUI 10 it's on its way, but LOS 14.1 is still developing - great work!
Personally, I'm using latest AEX Nougat and I'm happy.

Thanks for yours tips. It was necessary to wipe also data (internal storage) to avoid bootloop. All apps, contacts restored.
I'm giving up - no dialer during incoming call.
LineageOS ftw
I use LineageOS found here for some half a year without any issues as a daily driver.
The only two things that i found missing are no vibration and the fact i can not find a way to activate Camera2API, so i can not use Gcam mods. But these are not really an issue tbh.

mk2000 Oreo. What versions of the kernel work. best?

I've been catching wind of people mentioning different versions of the mk2000 kernel working best for them on Oreo. In my personal experience flashing mk2000 v2.0. Works quite well for me. I member reading someone saying that a beta version of the 2.2 worked good for them. But for the life of me can't find where I read that. I want to say it was beta 14. In my experience 2.1 and 2.2 have been very unreliable. I even tried the 2.2 build2 by Phenix using the Clang compiler.
In my experience my phone has never run better while using V2.0 on Oreo. Even compared to Nougat. However I probably wasn't flashing it right.
I know next to nothing about android. I just recently learned you are supposed to flash magisk after flashing the kernel. I have only done this procedure in the specific versions listed above.
The LG V20 is my first smartphone. And I must say it has been quite a nightmare. The only redeeming factor is that after two years of using it. I've figured out how to make it sound decent.
I digress... What versions of the kernel have worked best for you? Can you go around flashing away different versions without messing things up?
Good luck!
I've been using the stable 2.2 "re-upload" version for my VS995 on AO oreo for a while now. It is the one that has given me the least issues. Wish I had more info for you, but honestly it was just a LOT of trial and error to find what worked for me... Don't know why and I'm done trying to figure it out
All I can say is good luck. None of them are perfect for me. This version has the occasional crash of an app in the background but that seems to be it, even after many months of heavy use. So if you mean "has the least bugs" when you say "working best" then that is my answer.
The version I am talking about is located here by the way:
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=297449
Just make backups and try them all out... why not, ya know?
Not sure what issues you guys have been having my phone has been great.

This was the post i was looking for. Flashed the kernel and Magisk. The phone really cooks! In a good way. Performance wise and heat wise lol. Only under load. I feel like I have a good phone finely. It's only been 3 years. Now if I can only get my spell check to work.

I guess I'm back to 2.0. My alarm service crashed and I was late for work. First time ever. I'm not 100% sure it was the kernel but I'm almost positive as my phone started exhibiting strange behavior pryor to the battery swap. I even rebooted before going to sleep. I was charging a new Perfine 10000mAh battery. I have read reviews that it made some customers phone unstable. I understand how important clean power is in any electrical system. In phones the battery seems to be the only component in the powersupply that delivers a clean voltage. It's entirely possible that the balancing system in the new battery screwed things up on the first charge.

I haven't had much luck with that. I didn't like the way the phone booted. Then I got a kernel panic and jumped ship.
I'm still struggling with this. However I think I have discovered something. I cannot find any sort of installation instruction from the official MK2000 thread. I originally made the assumption that clearing Dalvik cache and cash in TWRP was sufficient enough. However it seems that that doesn't clear the app cache that can be found in system Settings.
After having issues trying the other MK2000 versions, I decided to revert back to 2.0. After doing so the system still ran like crap, until I cleared the cache in system settings. I have now achieved system stability and performance I was only able to achieve through a factory reset.
The complete [installation / upgrade / downgrade] procedure is as follows.
1. Flash kernel zip.
2. Flash magisk NOT version 2.2
3. Clear Dalvik cache / Cashe in TWRP
4. Clear app cache in system settings.
For now I'm sticking with 2.0. However perhaps when I get board I will try the other mentioned versions.
I am particularly interested in the mysterious Stendro re-upload. It did give interesting results.
I've put my V20 through some grueling real world tests. Testing the following Kernel versions:
MK2000 V2.0
MK2000 V2.2 Beta 34
MK2000 V2.2 PHXCLANG2-rebuild
MK2000 V2.2 Stendro re-upload
Stock Kernel
I was running the following programs for the test:
Google maps (driving directions)
Google assistant
USB Audio player pro (FLAC player, with dedicated audio driver)
Flud (torrent software)
Messages (sms)
Contacts
I set all cores to performance in Kernel Auditor
In a nutshell I can see no difference between reliability between the MK2000 versions. I would recommend using ether the Beta34 or the PHXCLANG. I find they both lag in different ways but equally so. During the testing I did run into some issues where the music would stop playing or the navigation stoped. Aside from noticing the second screen getting killed. I believe this is all due to the LMK not the Kernel, which sounds like a bad idea to me but what do I know.
Then I went back to the stock kernel. Oh boy! I forgot how slow this phone can be. It brought back feelings of nostalgia. To a time when I was afraid to root my first android smartphone. And utterly completely frustrated and disappointed with it. My dispatcher called me 2 times in a row and a friend shortly after. My phone never even displayed the answer screen.
I had heard rumors that there were problems with the MK2000 kernel. I remember the words "crashing in the background". I would like to be informed of the issues it may possess.
During my initial test of the stock kernel. I ran into the issue where the music stoped. However when going back to the app, instead of the app being reset to the state it was when first opened. The app was paused precisely where the music stoped. Also I think the DAC sounds better on stock. It could be because my ears got a chance to rest over the weekend. These seem to be the only differences thus far. I'm going to continue testing stock kernel and see if I notice anything different.
It's been a couple days running the stock kernel and I have to say it's been quite an interesting experience. I had to uninstall Google or revert back to the original version. And after doing so voice input and Google Assistant have been working better than ever. I still believe the DAC sounds better. I recall being amazed with if the difference between MK 2000 nougat and MK 2000 Oreo.
I'm starting to believe that you have to do a factory reset after flashing the kernel. So I feel all of these this testing is almost for nothing. And would also explain why different users are getting different results. I am getting a lot of bugs with apps such as titanium backup. Where are the app list doesn't load. And I had an issue where LG music service was disabled and I couldn't enable it. The LG music app is apparently the only way to select a ringtone or notification sound. Which I'm very upset about. I was able to fix it by installing an APK.
I've been on A-O_VS995_20C_1.3.1.zip with VS995_v2.2-mk2000.zip for a LONG time. Used to have some heat issues intermittently... Afer i installed Greenify my heat issues have gone away... phone is snappy, stable, and battery has been really good.
Flash order:
Clean (wipe cache, dalvic, system) 3 times minimum.
Flash rom
Flash kernel
Flash magisk
Reboot.
Use the correct version of TWRP.
( no issues as mentioned two above.)
Not exactly what you asked for, but apparently a promising kernel is almost out that you might be interested in trying out: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/bounty-kernel-h990ds-stock-oreo-t3952667
EDIT: disclaimer, I haven't tried it myself yet, and would love to hear from people when it comes to fruition
the clang variant is superior in performance

Question Awfully slow scrolling on POCO X4 PRO 5g

EDIT: I've done a factory reset and it stays the same. there is no intertia when scrolling. even at first step, when choosing the phone langage at first setup.
Hello everyone, hope you can help.
The scrolling is very slow compared to any other phone, I borrowed a samsung phone from a friend to show the difference. There is not inertia, it's really annoying, I have to scroll 10 times to see a long webpage. It is really a software issue, the screen is working perfectly.
The only place where the scrolling is smooth it's in the settings/developer options, see video.
Thanks all in advance.

I've never encountered this issue on stock ROM nor on MIUI EU ROM which I've flashed on this phone. See if switching between 120/60hz screen mode changes anything. Seeing as you have developer options enabled maybe you've selected so etjingnin there shouldn't have too - try disabling that. Have you tried factory resetting to see if that fixes it? Obviously backing up all your data first.

Hello and thenks for your answer, I've just got a brand new phone. It's been happening from the beginning, even before enabling developer options, I've seen other people having the same problem, thought it was a rom problem (i'm using stock rom updated to 13.0.5)
https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/laay68
tried that fix as well of corse and didn't help
Can you run Geekbench on your device when this happens and post the scores here?
Thanks for helping, below both CPU and COMPUTE Benchmarks

Although I think is not a matter of bad performance it's just the ROM itself Im afraid. It's a feature let's say.
PS: I've done a factory reset and it stays the same. there is no intertia when scrolling. even at first step, when choosing the phone langage at first setup.
If you've watched videos of this phone in use and you can see the scrolling works alot better than yours - if I were you, I'd return my device. If the issue was ROM wide then it could perhaps be a digitiser issue. If it's only some screens then I'd think it was a setting somewhere... Since you've factory reset your phone I'd say you can rule out a setting applied on accident. Haven't seen anyone else mention this issue yet

Hello, thanks for your answer. How does the benchmark look? Strangely the scrolling is super-smooth and has inertia with some apps or setting, for example in the developer settings and in the settings area in general is butter-smooth. My phone came with MIUI 12 and unfortunaly I've updated it straight away so can't really compare.
I've seen other people complaining:

Why does MIUI 13 (Android 12) feel so sluggish and generally-speaking slow on X3 Pro?
Hi everyone, I was thrilled last night when my X3 Pro showed an upgrade to Android 12-based MIUI 13 was available. I downloaded the thing (all 3.1 GB of it...), install went without a hitch, ditto reboot, but I'm severely disappointed so far...

To be fair, I've never cared for benchmarks unless I've run flagship devices so I haven't bothered testing this as it runs smooth and has good batter life. Which benchmarking app would you like me to test for you? Will post results

Thread 'Redmi Note 11(spes) CPU throttling issue with Android 11 based MIUI 13' https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-issue-with-android-11-based-miui-13.4433093/
I asked to run Geekbench to know if you face the above issue. Sometimes, my Redmi Note 11 caps peak CPU frequency to 1.1Ghz (instead of 2.4Ghz) and it never peaks till I reboot!
Juste wanted to check if it's prevalent across MIUI 13 irrespective of device.
Hi! This happened to me on freshly flashed xiaomi.eu ROM.
I was able to fix it by changing default wallpaper to something else

I did change the WP but didn't help either. Just seen a MIU 13 update has been rolled out. I'll wait a few days to seee if it's buggy and install it. Thanks

I have the exact same issue so send text or WhatsApp messages is a nightmare, I often just send half completed messages as a result. I raised this with Xiaomi support who just refunded me without troubleshooting suggesting it's a known fault

Not so much lag but when want to move the cursor or scroll for editing it freezes. I am very tempted to buy another one as they're not cheaper and hope for the better. Same on gbord and swifkey using text and whatsapp.
