Awfull Support from Huawei(Softwarewise) and no Custom ROM Support.
If you want a cheap device and can accept maybe some problems and a maybe for Android N Update then you can buy it.

If your interested in the p8 max then check out the asus zenfone 3 ultra.. same size phone with some way better spects
I agree. I have had both the DAV-701L and DAV-703L. Hardware is ok but Huawei is H O R R I B L E at software. The worst experience in my life was with huawei software and their "support" which is hell-bent to "make it impossible". I have sold both phones and will wait for the Zenfone 3 Ultra. **** you, Huawei.
Do not "upgrade" to the Marshmallow (Android 6). It will ruin the phone. Newer is not better, especially with software "updates". Check-out the "changelist" for the Android 6 "upgrade" here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67787826&postcount=83
HiKirin is a horrible chipset.
And for who might be interested in the differences between the two, hardware-wise they are EXACTLY the same. DAV-703L's case finish is rougher/cheaper and the SIM/card slots are also flimsier than the DAV-701L and you feel it instantly as you touch the device.
Also, DAV-703L is absolutely FULL of chinese software crap that you cannot get rid of. You have Yellowpages (for china, of course) in the Phone app and it doesn't come with anything Google (including PlayStore).
If you really want this phone, get the DAV-701L. The 703L is not worth it, even thought it is the same phone, the software (which is already crap) ruins it.
And to finish :
" But I guess there is no cure for stupidity, since every time I "upgraded" my phones ever since the Galaxy Note N7000 got Android 4, they always screwed it up, every single manufacturer (LG, Samsung, HTC). They're not at fault here, I'm the idiot who never learns his lesson and disables the damn updates. "

I disagree with most of this cause if you have time and knowledge you can get rid of the Chinese crap and have all Google things you want on it.

I assumed that also and just like you, I was wrong. You can uninstall some of the software and install google play store apk, sure.
But the chinese stuff that I'm talking about is embedded into the phone's core functions (dialer, menu, settings, gallery etc.). You can't get rid of them without rooting and doing some very risky editing of the phone's config files which will most likely result in a bricked device.
Bonus points : Absolutely no Huawei service center located in any other part of the globe except ASIA, will be able to fix a bricked DAV-703L. So if you brick it, you have to send it back to China. The reverse is true for the DAV-701L.
The genius that is Huawei, decided that if you can afford to pay 600$ for a phone, then you don't have the money to buy a plane ticket. Idiots...

I am so sorry you cant root your phone and do some simple build.prop changes!
Me too, actually. Programming (even simple text) puts me right to sleep. I really admire people who know how to configure Android so, good on you.
Rooting was not an option for me as in my country (although illegal, they did it anyway), Huawei made it so that the warranty is rendered invalid if I get the bootloader unlock code from them. So you guys are lucky and I'm happy for you but I've given up on Huawei.

You're in an EU country, so it doesn't matter what what Huawei tell you about the warranty, it's against the EU law. So unlocking the bootloader won't void you warranty. And I have no clue of programming, but I got rid of all the Chinese stuff on my 703, and I'm full on google, like on my previous LG G2.
If you're serious about your phone, you have to invest time on searching and editing. I couldn't be more happy about my P8 max since it is now exactly how I wanted it to be at the beginning. No single Chinese app or word, everything replaced with the right software, very long SoT.

That is very cool. Would be nice if you made a tutorial for the other people who are using the DAV-703L to get rid of all the chinese bloatware.
I know what they are doing is not legal but if I argue with them, they just won't give me the code. Weird thing is, even the tech support from UK told me the same thing.

How long is your SoT? I have 701L (unrooted) and get 6 hours max I bet.
I where Surpprised two see both the 703L handset does manage LTE+ 4G here in Denmark.. (a 32GB titanium grey and 64GB silver, both 703L on EMUI4.0)
at least on the celluar-carrier "3" here in scandinavia..(only LTE-carrier i have checked on) (attached screendumps)
NB.. in respons to upper-replys about lacks of 703L vs international 701L version..like getting google-services, like play-store on 703L.. is as easy as just open "Hiapp" and type "google" and take play store from there or any other google international service..// purchased another p8max at the start of 2016, and wonderd about getting the 701L version, but didnt make sense, it costed close too double the price of the 290US delivered' i ended up paying for an 703L titanium grey..

Hi there people,
I've searched forum a little bit, but didn't found what I need. I want to switch from G6 to Pixel 2, and I can save 200€ by getting Pixel for USA market.
My question is: Is there any difference (except charger), can I use that phone in Europe (Bosnia), network frequencies, software or something is it all the same?
LG has different versions eg. H870, H873, US997, G600 etc..
Should I pay attention to something, and is it worth it? I've red that phone is amazing, best camera, amazing speed, OS up-to-date. All positive things, is there negatives?
P.S. I've googled and it seems that there is none, anyone maybe experienced that?
Thanks guys,
I have the UK version, which is the same as the US one (AFAIK) and no differences except for the charger.
Good to see there's still people in Bosnia who know what a good phone is
Hello fellow XDA users. I decided to change my aging mi5, my first thought was mi mix 2s, but i realized that almost none of the phones has home button nowadays, and maybe i'm old school, but it's kind of important to me. I realized that maybe only huawei and oneplus is the one which is keeping this feature, and since p20 is more pretty for me, i'm really onto buying it… but of course i'm not sure about it, i'm a sucker for stock android, and as i see, there isn't any custom rom here.
Are you generally satisfied with the Huawei rom? Is there anyone working on custom rom? If so, will it be any soon available? For users who are already having the phone, any regrets? Would you choose any different phone if you bought today?
Would greatly appreciate any answers,
cheers.
The Huawei ROM is fine, no limitations, all you need in my opinion. Never felt I have to change the ROM.
I loved the home button in my Honor 9 before. It works well on P20 but, somehow because of the position (bigger screen) the onscreen buttons are easier to reach.

Emui is just soso. And the screen of p20 is rgbw LCD. That's very uncomfortable.
Hi
I am living in UK and one of my chinese friend want to buy a new phone but not Apple.... He asked me and i was suggest P20. Now he want it to buy in China but using it in UK. So my question is the chinese OS will work in UK without limitations? I mean google map, google translation etc.? Or is only one "global" OS on P20 not like Oneplus where is HydrogenOS in Chinese region and OxygenOS for Europe etc.?
Hi ! I'm looking for a s10e SM-G9700 (HK version), for Europe. From what i've heard it's the best non-Exynos version to have.
However, I can't find any still selling. What i found though are a lot of G970U1 (US version unlocked).
Will I have any trouble by using one of these (I mean, impossible to access some essential feature like my local Play Store, impossible to change language, or any other software issues). Can i correct a potentiel issue by flashing with Odin a new firmware/something else ?
I don't really care about rooting (even if this would be nice, but i'm not dreaming).
I've compared the bands available on both of these phones, and i find them very similar, so i guess i shouldn't have an issue on this side.
Thank you very much for your help !
PS: Alternatively, if the Exynos can run better or similar with root/custom rom (I'm mostly worried about battery consumption), that could be a solution
You can buy one from Taobao though, i also buy a 970U from there.
