Question Problem with new Flip 4? - Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4

A family member is trading in an unlocked flip 3 for an unlocked flip 4, the flip 4 arrived on the 23rd. I popped in the sim card from the 3 and rebooted and could not receive calls. I placed a call from the phone and it worked, then I called it again and the call went through just fine, so I am thinking that it registered on the network and all is OK. A few hours later I called the 4 again, and the call did not go through... This is still happening today (the 28th) if I reboot the phone it works (for a few hours). I took the sim out of the 4 and put it back in the 3 and it works just fine. So, I don't know if the problem exists with the phone or with T-Mobile. It is on a pre paid TMO connect plan, so getting someone to look at this might be difficult as pre paid seems to be looked down upon with TMO.
EDIT: I just tried calling the old phone (flip 3) and again the call did not go through, but it did receive a text, and then I was able to call it....Sim card?

I'd say call the cell provider, they might have to reset something - I had similar problem in the past and it was easily fixed.

^This^ and try a network reset, clear SIM toolkit data.
Replace sim card if these don't work; handle the sim card like a stick of ram. They can be damaged by ESD. While they are dirt cheap, a partial failure can be a pain to chase down. Any failure can leave you with no service. ESD damage may show up immediately or days, months even years latter. Almost all sim card failures are due to ESD. Most techs mishandle them; use ESD handling protocols.

Strange Problem - Please help

Money is tight, phone broke, bought a T-Mobile Dash off Craig's list. I am a T-Mobile Customer. Tried my sim card in it before I bought it - made a call - no problem. Got home (8 miles away) and couldn't make any calls - dropped before connecting. Hard reset . Searching, searching, searching. No bars. Tried husband's sim card - same thing. D/led manual to be sure sim card was properly seated. It was. Called, texted, emailed seller. No reply. Reset phone to manufacture's settings. Same issue. Switched Sim cards back and forth, back and forth. Was able to make one call for 10 seconds and then call dropped - no service.
Next day: opened case, wiggled battery, wiggled sim card, finally got some bars. Made a call successfully. Second call - call dropped as soon as connected. Third call - Call dropped before connected. Now it still shows bars but will not make call or send text. Everything else works - contacts, games, checked settings, Wi Fi works, no obvious damage, nice display, nice keyboard, all buttons work. Can do anything except make / receive calls or texts.
Now I'm out my money and still have no phone. Is there anyone out there with any ideas? Please Please help. Somebody, Anybody??
Have you considered a hard reset?

Good luck,
Yes, I did that right away. Sorry I forgot to mention it.
... actually you did mention it...
May not be anything, but how "old" is your SIM? Have you called T-Mobile to see if they can see your phone w/SIM on the network?

Maybe you should flash another Radio !
But since the WiFi works maybe its not related to Radio.
You could try.
By the way it is new or used ?
Maybe you should just go back to the seller And sue him for selling you phone which is not working to its full capacity !

[FIX] One possible solution to your data dropping issues.

What's up guys, don't post much, so excuse if this is in wrong section or whatever. Just thought I'd post my solution for constant data dropping problem I was having. Where for one, I would only have a data connection for no more than 30 minutes before it would stop downloading/receiving any data. And then I'd have to turn mobile network off and then back on again. It also affected phones calls. Where once the data dropped and I tried to make a call it wouldn't connect at all. Nor could I receive calls without first turning off and back on mobile network, or airplane mode. In rare occasions it wouldn't even send texts. The worst part was that even when I had a data connection for whatever amount of time, I got 4g lte absolutely nowhere.
After extreme amounts of frustration, and 100's of reflashes, (not really) I came across a few forum post where users were experiencing the same issue. Some with root and some without. After further reading, some users posted that after contacting HTC, they recommended it be a sim card issue, as early micro Sims have shown to have some defects. And then that's what made me think. Sim card, maybe it's more simple than we think.
Thinking about how many times I dropped the fu*k out of my phone, I thought to grab my sim card removal tool and pop it out.
I noticed that with the sim card holder, the sim doesn't sit very snug in the slot, so given the thousands of times I've dropped this thing, it's likely that the sim card wasn't sitting in that "perfect spot". So I went ahead and blew in the card slot like a 90's game console, (cause that fixes everything) reseated the sim in the holder, and put it back in. And wala. 4g let speeds EVERYWHERE I go now, and not a single data drop for two days. Even when it's switching towers.
Now I no longer want to blow up AT&T
Because our phones don't have expandable memory, and an internal battery , we don't find ourselves having to open it, or constantly remove anything from it. Unless you have multiple carriers in which you switch between Sims with. But most of us contracted HOX users aren't even going to touch that sim slot.
To sum it up, I just hope that anyone that comes across this issue in the same details, and hasnt opened their sim card slot since the day it was activated and put in the phone, will come across this post. Just to give it a try before getting a new sim (as HTC suggests) or getting a different phone manufacturer (as AT&T suggest. -___- )
Thanks to all the devs for the hard work, and for keeping us interested in this ever-changing field.

I haven't dropped my phone, but if I shake it, I hear rattling. Is that the SIM card not sitting in there as tight as it should? I notice if I shake it enough, I'll lose some signal. Another weird thing, I'll get 4G LTE in school, but I walked into the parking lot today and only got 3G, but right now I am getting LTE again
It could be the sim, but it could also be the g sensor. I wouldn't imagine the sim be loose enough to cause a rattling. But who knows. They are micro šims, so the possibility of displacement on the contacts could be a bit more prone, as they have less surface area.

It's the camera. Normal.
I have quirky cell coverage areas on at&t too. Same spots with different phones for past 8 years.

My network losses were seriously unbearable. Sometimes I could only be browsing for less than 5 minutes before it dropped. Then it would continue ever five minutes after turning off and back on.

Just got my 5 yesterday... problem today

So i traded to a nexus 5 from my gs4. everything was good yesterday buuuuuut.
today, and i dont know what time, i havent been able to make calls or texts. everything else works.
called customer service, walked me thru some troubleshooting... no luck
went to the store, they tried doing some stuff, took out the sim and put it back in. worked for a sec. then no workie.
did a factory data reset, same deal. cant call, get calls or text.
i get this message when i call my phone or try calling from my phone "we could not complete your call, please try again"
its weird it will off and on let me call out from my phone. but cant get calls or texts
going to the store where i got it tomorrow.
anything have something similar happen?
Sounds like a hardware problem. DEMAND FOR A REPLACEMENT!
When I bought my second N4, I had a similar problem. It would connect to 2G but never 3G. LG replaced the whole unit for me
no wonder why he traded his n5..
Maybe issue is with the sim card. Tried another one?
I had a similar issue with a phone last year - turned out it was my Sim Card as mentioned above. To be on the safe side I would contact your carrier, request a new sim card but also request a new handset. A new sim card should only take two days to come maximum and you should not be charged for this, providing you are on contract and paying monthly.
+2 on the sim idea

[Q] Possible hardware fault

Hi all.
Received a supposedly new Galaxy S6 today and the seal was broken.
All seemed OK with phone so accepted it.
Put in a 3 sim card as phone is unlocked. Problem is it just says "Not connected to network" when trying to make a call. Though it has received 2 text messages and I managed to send one after the phone tried to send it for 30 minutes. Phone also isn't showing any data connection. It's been tried with the sim out my old phone and also with a new sim from 3 store today. Sim had been in phone for approx 8 hrs before I run out of ideas.
So the phone definitely works. Just can't seem to figure out why its not working properly . I'm thinking it likely hardware fault though would like anyones opinions or suggestions.
Cheers for reading the post
Mark
The new SIM card probably is not yet activated. Bring your S6 back to your telecom provider so they can test there with a working SIM. If it does not work then it maybe a hardware problem. Have them replaced your S6 if it is.
Sim was activated. 3 store tried it in another phone and it worked ok.
To make matters worse. I put nano sim converter inside Galaxy S3 to test my old phone. Couldn't get it out and bent pins inside phone DOH!
After leaving the store and arriving home my phone was showing full signal and the '3' symbol. Unfortunately would still not send a text or make a call.
My conclusion is that the phone isn't quite reading the Sim properly.
My decision now is to either wait till the seller replies(Who I don't trust) to numerous messages I have left or just send it off to Samsung for repair.
Cheers for replying
Mark
Send to Samsung for repair.
I've sent the phone back to seller.
I'm beginning to doubt myself though after this nightmare. This is going to be a long story....
When the S6 arrived I had to cut my micro sim down out of my S3 to nano size. I'm quite a perfectionist when it comes to stuff like this and did a good job. Though as the S6 didn't hold a signal I went into 3 store for brand new nano sim. Put it into the S6 instore and it was the same. Though they said wait up to four hours for it to register properly. Went home and after 6 hours still no luck. So I decided to try it in my S3.
This is when the nightmare began.
As I needed it micro size I cut out a template to put nano sim in. When trying to insert it in I wasn't happy. So I tried to take it out and the tip caught hold of the sim reader pins and came away. So I had a bit of plastic stuck in sim reader. Boy could I not get it out. So had no option but to buy a new sim/Mem card reader. Local shop wanted a tenner for one. Had no option so bought it along with a proper nano to micro sim housing and went along home.. Fitted it and then went along to the 3 store armed with both S3 and S6 to make sure I could either get the S6 working and if not get the sim put in the S3.
This is where my next dumb moments was. So I didn't lose the nano to Micro template I partially slotted it into the S3 sim reader.
Got to 3 store, explained S6 wasn't working with new nano sim and asked if they could check the sim was ok. They tried it in a HTC and it worked fine.
So this to me proved the S6 was faulty.
So I asked if they would put it into my S3 to show it worked ok in that.
So they went to put the Sim in my S3 and couldn't get the template out as i'm not sure if they pushed the sim converter all the way in!! As no sim was in the template the pins had hooked onto it. So ended up damaging the sim reader again. Jesus!!
So no working phone again. Just an apparent working nano sim.
Got home ordered ANOTHER sim/mem reader.
To get me connected I ended up taping the nano sim in place on the S3 and part of an old credit card on top so the rear cover put pressure on the sim as well. This was after cutting away the top part of the original sim reader to get the plastic out and to expose the pins. LO and behold it worked!!! Full signal just like I normally get and H+ data
So I've had a phone for last 24hrs working and got home tonight to find the new sim/card reader had arrived. Thought wow that was quick delivery. Took sim out and thought i'd give S6 one last try as I install the new sim reader. . Still no luck getting stable signal so boxed up S6 to return. Put sim into S3 with proper template AND you'll never guess what........ITS DOING EXCACTLY THE SAME THE S6 WAS!!!!
S3 now keeps dropping signal and going into emergency only calls. I'm thinking why didn't I just not touch it.
So is it possible that the 3 network throws a Dummy every time you swap sim into different phones??? Its just strange the S3 is doing excactly what the S6 was. Or could the S6 be upsetting the sim?
God i'm really baffled as there always seems to be more than one factor into the equation of whats wrong.
Now I'm just waiting to get hold of another sim to try or just hope after leaving my S3 on overnight it might settle down.
God phones....I hate em LOL
Just to clear up the Sim issue with the S3. Even though it was connected on the '3' network and not receiving calls. I happened to check the manual network provider list again and it was showing the '3' network twice in the list. Clicked on the one it wasn't auto selecting and S3 is working fine again. Tried the Sim in the S6 again hoping that may have been the problem also. Again the S6 manual network provider was showing the '3' network twice in the list....But unfortunately still didn't connect to network properly.
So S6 definitely going back Monday.
Anyone know if having your network provider listed twice in the network settings is normal? Or is it possible that '3' have not programmed the sim properly?
Cheers

Question Sim gone bad? One ring and then hangs up on outgoing calls.

Just wanted to share some info in case anyone else has this issue.
First P7P was highly defective. Video issues, connectivity issues, fingerprint issues, upload speed issues and a few more. Phone went back to Verizon after they sent me a replacement. I couldn't get the new phone to connect to the network, so I brought it to the local Verizon store. Guy pulls the SIM out of the old phone and places it into the new phone, and everything then seemed to work. I had assumed the new phone would connect via the eSIM, but I was totally wrong. Dummy me! Now I know
So, new phone seems to work until the first time I call a business number. Rings once and then hangs up. I can call my house and other cellphones no problem, but not certain business numbers. Can't even call *611 or #832 as both come up as "invalid number". Many, many hours of customer service at the tier 1 level doesn't fix the issue. Factory reset, clearing network connections, cache, safe mode, refreshing network and towers, nothing helps. Finally they connect me to tier 2 who thinks it may be a pSIM issue. She had me remove the SIM, and she tries to set up the phone on the eSIM. no luck, as Verizon states the IMEI number for slot 2 is not listed in Verizon's database. She puts in a ticket to get that number added, which is supposed to take a few days. She also told me that the SPAM settings (even though I'm making outgoing calls) had been problematic. She also said that some of the call filtering settings at Verizon's end can cause this, but neither seems to be my issue.
I head down to the local store and ask for a new SIM. I had asked for a new one when I got the replacement phone but the Verizon guy just put my old one into the new phone. Be advised, tier 2 says that the stores are told to never use the old SIM, and to always place a new one. Old SIMs can bring along old problems into the new phone! Well, I guess the store doesn't follow company policy.
So, getting back to the story... Today when I go in and request a new SIM, the guy says that my old SIM, which has a black stripe at the top, could be the issue as black stripe Sims supposedly have been having issues for a while now, and they've been replacing them with Sims that are totally white, with no black stripe. Why the guy 2 weeks ago put the used, black stripe, SIM back in, who knows....
This seems to have fixed the issue, as the phone numbers that I couldn't call, now work, including 611, *611, & #832.
Now, the only issue I'm having is that every time I've turned this new phone off, the color palette reverts to factory stock when the phone turns back on. My selected color palette (Settings/ Wallpaper & Style/Wallpaper Colors) still has a checkmark on it (greens in my case), and appears to be the selected, active colors, but the phone is using the factory stock blue color palette. My old phone kept the greens even after a restart, so I don't know what other issue is going on with this new phone. It's not a deal breaker, but there's something still not right.
