So you know where I'm coming from, I upgraded from a 3a, but so far...?
The fingerprint reader is ace, and works no matter how sweaty my finger might be. No issues at all. It just works.
Screen is great, and far better than the 3a when it comes to colour temp.
Battery is big! From 100% to 15% today, day 2, and I've managed 7.5 hours SOT. That's with YouTube videos, browsing, a few hours of podcasts over Bluetooth.
Tensor is fast. I mean an abacus is fast compared to the 3a, but still, this thing is smooth, and the phone isn't even notably warm https://nox.tips/ https://xender.vip/.
And finally, this thing feels big compared to the 3a, but way more premium. It doesn't feel cheap.
So while there's lots of negative reviews out there from tech reviewers, hopefully you can find balance in the voice of a normal phone user.
Also coming from a 3a (XL though) I agree on how premium this feels (and is) comparatively. The screen is absolutely improved and the SOC is night an day better.
Thats said, FP under the screen sucks....I REALLY wish this still had the rear mount physical sensor. While I havent had the same nightmare stories others have this is no where near as good a FPR as the 3a was.
Battery is less vs my 3a XL but that had a lot bigger batter vs the normal 3a. Heat is a mixed bag, sometimes its unnoticed and sometimes it gets very toasty. Its a lot better now with my current kernel vs stock, but with added power comes added heat.
All in all though, yes depending on what device youre coming from this is a LOT better. This isnt a premium, flagship device and people need to stop comparing it with them. Its also not a cheap Chinese brand with questionable everything. This is the nicest "A" series device Ive seen/used.
had pixel 6a for 2 weeks, coming from a rugged phone with 5800mah battery, so for me pixel6a battery looks ridiculous, sorry google

I've found battery to be mediocre at best. 6-6.5 hrs onscreen over 12 hours or so. Low brightness, just flipping around social media and web and chat. But that is with LTE only, with some or all WiFi would be different story. Deep sleeping fine. Deep sleep drain is pretty crappy as well.

me with normal use, always 5g with optimal reception, lasted 12h from 100% to 10%. Good point with wifi but I had not the possibility to compare
12 hours on 5g is pretty good with this device stock. Make sure if you havent already, to disable adaptive connectivity, and try LTE vs 5G.

Screen on time with 6a? Unbelievable. Wouldn't even come close. All reports, reviews, anecdotal user reports show this isn't possible. I've been testing it thoroughly for last month and definitely impossible.
No screen on time, just my normal phone use, and Google says It lasts 24h, it's not true

Ahhh sorry. Didn't mean to sound like a ****. I could have just asked if you meant screen on time. Thanks for confirming. Yeah LTE and WiFi when possible, if screen on/battery drain is important should make a big difference.
Out of the box this is one of the worst devices I've used in a LONG time. However, my old OnePlus 8 (dd) had to go. Just to charge I had to hold the cord at an angle, and quick charge stopped working. Then random reboots and freezes killed me. I could tell the phone was on its last legs. Same glitches regardless on stock/custom. Battery lost a lot of charge in one year.
Either way after trade in I paid $188. It's a sidegrade, which is totally fine. Most CPUs perform about the same outside of benchmarks. Battery and heat are my only complaints. Hopefully the 8a/9a are better because the rectangular shape, and camera visor have really grown on me.
Deep sleep 2 hours. Use 20 minutes, battery down to 83% :/ Honestly it's just terrible. The phone gets hot just flipping around FB. Otherwise it's fine. I'll hang onto it for a year and trade it in for 7a hoping they get these issues solved somewhat. We'll have a clue with 7 and 7 Pro. The heat I can deal with but battery life is weak. That also I can deal with but just disappointing given the device is great otherwise.

24 hours off the charger with 4h screen on including 50 min of gps, browsing, YouTube, and some music streaming. Battery down to 43% which is acceptable for my needs.
Have found that PIA VPN was burning huge amount of battery... Much better battery life without it. Looking at about 8 hours onscreen over a 20 hours with LTE.

What kind of use are people getting out of their OneS batteries?
I've had my phone for just under a week and have run it through 3 or 4 full charge/discharge cycles.
Phone is running stock firmware. Last charge lasted ~36 hours with the screen using the most power.
I'd be interested to know what other people are seeing?

Yup. Turn it off.
im have an imported international one s on att in nyc and i only get maybe 10-12 hours i use it fairly oftern but no videos or calls. i get no where near 24 or even 18 hours like i need.
12-20 hours.
That includes about 2 hours of off-screen streaming while commuting, 8-10 hours WiFi on, 2-4 hours games and surfing, 10-15 minutes calls and a dozen or so messages.
My last charge was at about 25% after 16 hours, and usage pattern as described. Screen is on auto brightness and consuming about 60%.
Anyone else? My battery life is exceptionally bad took the phone with me to the park 4hrs of listening to music with maybe an hours worth of web browsing and 30 of those minutes taking pictures the phone is dead

That doesn't strike me as exceptionally bad but rather merely less than average. An hour of web browsing is going to use a lot of battery in itself. Do you use the Beats enhancements too when listening to music? Bet that drains some battery.
its exceptionally bad in comparison to what everyone e else is reporting about this phone. and the battery is one of the reasons i chose this over the one x. my phone also keeps switching between h and 3g. im on ATT on an imported MAO
First charge and usage was; A few texts, 10-20 min of video, fair amount of browsing, installing lots of apps, tweaking and changing everything about, GPS, camera etc. and brightness was at 70-85% brightness for about 1-2 hours and dropped to 50% for the rest of the time, however, I didn't have my SIM in for the first hour of use (testing the mobile first to make sure it worked ok), wifi was on constantly as well.
Second charge and usage was; the same as above but a fair bit more browsing was done and a few games (angry birds and ROM emulators) and brightness was at 50% the entire time, plus this time the SIM was in for the entire time.

really good battery life, after a day of calls, bit of gaming, couple camera shots, with sync on, fb etc, battery is at 50% - 60% ,
I reckon i could get 2 days easy if i was economical, but 1 day easy with heavy use.
The screen will always have the highest usage so really battery stats are somewhat useless without sharing screen on time..

I highly, highly doubt that. Beats, correct me if I'm wrong, is just an "improvement" of the audio frequencies. An automagical DSP.
Without particularly trying to save power my battery is lasting 36 hours or so.
By far the biggest drain is the screen, currently at 65% of power drawn. Wifi is second with 7%. Considering that wifi has been on more or less constantly for the period this is pretty impressive.
I could probably push battery life to 2 days if I replaced live wallpaper with black background and reduced screen brightness generally. It's hard to know what else to do though.

I got question regarding to battery and charging...
How it would affect battery, if I would charge it every day while driving 1h (it wont get fully charged if empty). Would it affect it badly in time?
i get about down to 30-35% at the end of the day with light web use, gmail, maybe a short phone call, and a bit of GPRS hunting when the signal is not that good. I just installed the power manager to see if there is any real use of it...
Mate...I've always disputed the battery andusic thing..your guaranteed to run out faster..I know it has that function and beats etc..but I pods or mp3 players do a much better job in every department and don't waste your phone battery. I'm getting a day and a half and I'm a fairly heavy user..I play the odd game. Text a lot to my wife lol..and surf the web. Its all about what your using...
One plus side..I use free beats earphones on my iPod and it sounds fing amazing.

Great phone
Truly amazing stats! Beats the crap out of my "battery monster" Oukitel K6000 Pro who can only reach ~9h SOT on a daily basis. (100% to 15%)
so far best battery life phone I had
Almost 6 days on a smartphone is just ridiculous ?
Mine lasts about 2-3 days but my SOT time is about 14-18 hours over that time.

Or just an hour or two of gaming. The average for me is 12h SOT, from 100℅ to 15℅ with 2h gaming for over 3 days on a single charge.

the P2 is not without it`s glitches (as most phones) but the battery is a big advantage,I go out with the battery at 50% all day knowing the phone will not run out of charge (on previous phones I always carried a powerbank)
This phone is IMO excellent value for the price.

After nougat update many bugs are solved. Battery remains great
70% auto brightness, wifi and data on all the time, about 60% of time wifi was my main connection
15h is easily achievable with lower brightness, good network connection and no intensive/background apps. The people getting 18h+ who don't show power drain profile i question. Also, I've noticed my stats don't reset if i do a brief charge. Or i could plug in a low current trickle charge from a computer usb. Would look like very slow power drain but i could post u some crazy stats! The most important stat really is the minimum SoT. If you run full brightness as I have been, with a bit of everything, you will get minimum of 11-12h SoT. Still going through a charge now, so will post final stats tomorrow. But 2d+ use, and 12h SoT with maxed settings doing whatever i like is epic from a fast smart phone!!!
8 days on a battery! Epic.
Rom S062_170117_ROW
11h45m SOT! From 95% to 10%.
No gaming, lots of browsing, youtube, downloading stuff.
WiFi only, brightness on auto.
I'm pretty heavy user, no gaming though. Apart from regular calling and messaging, I browse a lot, lot of music, every imaginable form of social media and hours of music, I get an average of 14-16 hours of SOT.
The only problem is with Hike messenger (most probably the app's fault), the SOT reduces by almost half. With below average Hike usage, the SOT I can squeeze out 8-9 hours barely.
Edit: WiFi or Jio 4G always on 24 hours a day. Brightness is manual.
Could probably push 20h SOT with only wifi, 2G, auto sync, gps etc. disabled.
Hello,
I have a question.
I have a one plus 5, and I am not exactly satisfied with the camera or the software experience
I have a few questions as I am planning to get a pixel 1
Is there a chance that pixel 2 camera bokeh will be ported to pixel 1
except the portrait mode am I getting an upgrade?
will the pixel 1 give me a whole day's usage easily?
3-4 SOT?
Are there any shortcomings about pixel 1 that fellow pixel users can give me?
It would really helpful if someone could give me their opinion
Thanks a Ton,
Arjun

1. The Pixel 1 camera already has it's own bokeh effect called Lens Blur. It's very good when used right and you can adjust the blur as needed. It could do with some little imporovements but overall it performs well.
2. I've never used the OP5 camera, and online pics don't always do justice, so I can't answer on that front.
3. The battery life on this isn't as impressive as most people say, but it just does enough. I'll usually just scrape about 3h SOT each day, and I do sometimes found myself needing some juice towards the middle of my day (from 6AM to 9PM, ar around three I'll be from 20% to 50%). Mind you, I'm checking emails, scrolling through Instagram and checking stories on snapchat, so your mileage may be way different from mine.
4. I can't think of any other short comings for this device, other than the battery. You'll definitely be satisfied with it, the Pixel is a solid device. The problems people complain with (mic and speaker not working, weird lines across the screen, etc.) are relatively isolated and if somehow you do encounter those issues, Google has an excellent policy on swapping your pixel for a new one.
@infomedia0
I can't say anything about the OP5 it's camera or software... but I've had my pixel 1 since launch and it's a great device. it seems like the software has also been improving with each new android release.... I've used the pixel 2, but I personally didn't find it's added features / chip upgrade to be a big enough upgrade for me (it uses the same chip/SOC as your op5; msm8998)... so just an FYI, u would be downgrading, in terms of HW.
I think battery life is dependent on how you use and also how u setup your phone. my experience has been quite different than the above response from @B0RD34UX ... he may think because he is only getting 3hrs of SOT that other people's experiences are invalid; but if I was only getting 3hrs of battery life checking email and skimming through Instagram, I'd be dissapointed...
you can do a lot to optimize and extend battery life; the biggest being; making sure no apps are running in the background causing drain... also using a custom kernel, if ur into that sort of thing...
for me; any less than 5hrs of SOT on the Pixel with moderate use (mix of light apps and heavy ones) would be unacceptable... I use my own kernel and for my typical day; I get at least 5hrs, usually 6hrs... on stock kernel, I would expect less, but 3hrs seems very low, like @B0RD34UX has an app or two excessively draining his battery.

Since the day I got the pixel I've only gotten up to 3hrs SOT, even the first day before I installed my apps. Judging by other reviews on this forum, my battery life is definitely not the norm, which I should've highlighted in my previous response. I've exhausted all avenues at this point to figure out how you guys are getting 5hrs+ of SOT, to no avail. I just carry my charger with me at all times and deal with it. Is it annoying? Yes. But I've already returned two Pixels to Google and each had the same problem, so I'll just live with it.

I only piped in on your comment because that's not the norm. 5+ hrs may not be either; as people like myself may be running custom kernels and actively making sure that no app is causing battery drain, etc.... I do think that something on your device is causing drain, I'd be going through settings/battery and see what apps are using battery most and stop them from running in the background...
this is an estimate, but fairly accurate on the SOT I'm getting on my own kernel in 8.1:
5-6hrs is typical moderate use. light use, I get more.
I get about 3-4 hours SOT with around 20 hours standby. It's so difficult to compare people's usage side by side as the number of factors are nearly infinite.
From what I'd read in reviews before buying the device, most say the battery is average to good. And I think that's a fair assessment.
Thank you, everyone, for your opinions,
I ended up buying it today.

I had my S10+ that ever had bad battery life, my s21+ looks like is much better, having 25% of drain in standby means there is an app that is causing that, when you talk about your last update, you should explain which version of firmware do you have now.
My T-Mo USA S21+ gets really great battery life. No change with the latest (AUAG) USA firmware. My S10 got very good battery life (24 Hrs +) but the S21+ (so far) gives me 2 days with MANY hours of screen on time.
Here's a partial dump of a discharge to 10%:
I'm using the exynos variant. I bought the phone on 13th Feb. The battery life is really realty bad for a 4800mah device. I was getting a expecting a decent battery life. But I'm getting like 4.5hrs SOT for 10.5 hours usage which is like half of what snapdragon verison is giving. This sucks. Should have waited for op9pro. Made a huge mistake.!!

No, that is with Adaptive Motion Smoothness (120Hz) turned on.
I thought maybe my AOD was adding too much Screen On time, giving me a very misleading value, so in one of the tests I made i just played a few movies, and I still got hours and hours of battery life. I have no idea why there is such a variance.
Edit: So I thought of two things to mention. I run my screen brightness at about 35%. If you run yours much higher, that could effect your results significantly. If you use your phone outside a lot and it's set to automaticly adjust its brightness, that could set the screen brighness very high (for when you're outside). Also, I have bluetooth turned off.
2nd Edit: I ran another test last night and I'm surprised to report that there was no significant difference at full screen brightness versus my normal 35% brightness. I had Netflix playing for 3 hours at normal brightness followed by 3 hours at full brightness and the slope of the battery level curve is essentially the same. I'm at a lost to explain this as well as it's been my experience that screen brightness significantly affects power usage.
fwiw
My battery life seems okay but charging is very slow. I've never had so much trouble getting up to a full charge

I use it outside about 2 hrs a day. That too usage. Only for changing the song. Nothing more . I use dual sim .listen to music atleast 1 hour a day via Bluetooth. Even then what you are getting is truly amazing.

I did some tests the other night and much to my surprise turning up the screen from my usual 35% to full didn't make much of a difference.
I'm in the habit of using the "Close all" function in the recent apps screen almost all the time. Maybe that makes a difference?
I'm trying all the scenarios to reach that level of battery life but I go out for atleast 3 hrs a day. So I use my phone in mobile data as well. That also contribute. Yeah closing all applications all the time prevent unnecessary background process. That may actually help in apps like Twitter and Instagram.
Here is the latest I have managed . I removed one of the sim and used carefully . This is the best I have managed so far. But again, I use it outdoors with mobile internet for atleast an hour of screen time. 3 hours of outdoor usage . I'm still not sure if it's a good battery life but I will take it.
As a new S21+ owner I can say that I have had great battery life so far consistently getting 7.5-8 sot. This is with the latest march update.

Watch some YouTube videos on battery optimizations
My battery has been good so far exynos.

Made a huge mistake.!!View attachment 5223623

Hi. Looking at your screenshot, it seems you are using an Indian variant. I do not want to get into specifics, but Indian networks are far more congested compared to other countries. So the modem has to work 4 times as hard compared to say the US. Also, dual sims nearly halve the standby time. So the usage you have is fine and I wouldnt worry too much about it.
Have anyone tried disable auto optimize app daily and disable adaptive battery.
Some say it really improve the battery on the previous samsung gen. I'm going to try it. And report to all of you guys.
Just came up to xda to search about anything related to battery and didn't find the solution yet.
Sometime I got a good battery like about 6 hours sot. The other day it just to bad only around 4 hours. It seems auto optimize overreacting to apps and make it closed and open daily causing a worst battery live. And the adaptive battery just seems not good at all in some report.
My best so far today, 10h of SoT doing mostly multimedia stuff. Exynos, 4G, 60Hz, April update. No power saving mode.

Johnny... please show us some new stats. Will it work around 15 hours with normal/medium usage? I'm afraid this battery... just battery ;/
Hi,
Normal/medium usage is different for everyone.
All I can say, is I was worried about be the battery size, but it has got me through the day just fine.
Depending on what apps I'm using and light gaming, I've been getting around 3.5 to 4.25 hours of screen on time.
I've averaged 16-22 hours of use even with my smart watched connected for around 6 hours a day.
We have to remember though, this is an early software version, so may improve over time.
For now battery life is very disappointing for me. Came from pixel 5 when I could leave the house with half the battery left and not worry. However, I am sure this can be improved but need some suggestions based on the below. I have google play services and carrier services that are draining quite a lot. Any idea how to pin those down/improve?
EDIT: clearly me being stupid after too much work. that's usage over the last 7 days and not 24 hours.... still battery life for me leaves something to be desired for now. I do lots of calls for work. after taking off the charge at 7am, I had to plug the phone back in at 6pm. will report towards end of the week to see if anything improves
Any news after few days of using?
Horrendous for me still after clearing caches and even turning off location. Google play services is at the top.
I need to charge twice a day. Comparing to Note 20 Ultra it's very disappointing. I am thinking about returning my Flip.

Yea. Mine lives on the charger. I get better life from my Galaxy Book. I'm assuming this will be fixed. I've seen a couple cases where people said they had better life on the Fold than note.
Had the Flip 3 for just over a week now.
Battery for me was acceptable yesterday, fair amount of camera use (mainly on 4G), and today so far is decent (mainly WiFi). At 80%, with 50mins SOT.
the only thing that did it for me was turning off 120hz refresh rate. sticking with 60hz visually hurts but it improves battery life a lot. it is now capable of getting me through the whole day easily and lasting around 24hrs. SOT is around 3 hours.

No, more a moderate user. A couple of short WhatsApp video calls, 20 text message, some light gaming, 20-30 photos, and maybe 30-60 mins on Chrome.
I have 2 accounts for Google/Gmail syncing.

Not terrible for me . It's not the best, but good enough for me. Gets me through the day, even when on the mobile network.
I have some back ground Sammy apps disabled like Bixby.
It has definitely improved over the last couple of days.
screenshot attached now. again, this is with 60hz only.

Could try the app in the mods section, set it to 96 refresh rate.
I'm going to give it a go, and try setting it up with 96Hz, and 48Hz idle.

why 96 though and not 90?

90 not available, 48, 60, 96 and 120 are the options
Am I the only one losing 30 percent after an hour of SOT? Not even using the big screen? Almost all apps are asleep too. Absolutely nuts. I'm gonna have to carry a battery with me if I ever take this on vacation. It can't last a work day. I hit 30 percent before 11am from 85.
