Hello guys. Someone who tried the konabess App on the s22 with snapdragon 8 gen 1? Is it possible to undervolt this thing a bit to lower the heat output? Its hot here in germany (28° Celsius) and the phone become very hot (cpu 50-65°C) just with Surfing the Samsung browser... So looking for a way to tame it a bit.
pfff....just take a drill and make big holes in your plastic phone case
ps: what is your background processes?
i hope not trashy fb, intagram, snap, twitter apps which wakes up your screen & modem every 10 seconds to show you what your friends eat in restorants? make debloat

I made some underclocking by EX Kernel Manager app (cluster 2 max freq 1555, cluster 3 max freq 1843, all clusters regulator is shedutil instead of walt, gpu max freq is 599). As can i say, konabess made simmilar procedure, but by patching boot image, so may be my reaults can answer your question. In my place also in this summer temperature rises to 28-35 celsius, before changing cpu settings phone was sometimes warm when i use it at sunlight, now it less hot and live longer (approx 6hrs of screen with using from 85% to 15%, but for battery life i also put to sleep some apps in settings). At antutu indoor phone is heated up to 34 celsius (before underclocking it was up to 39 celsius). In ui, browsing and camera i cant catch any lag or stutter with these cpu setting about a month so i think it very stable. But in straight sunlight phone still can heated to 45-50 celsius, better not use it in straight sunlight for long

You do realize that body temp is 37C...right. It gets hotter than 25C just by being in your pocket. It isn't outside temperatures causing your problem, it's the app your using.

Please dont comment if you havent a clue what are you talking about. Mate the Ambient temp. The cpu itself is 40-50 then... 25would be nice and cool...
One or more of your apps is using more power than they should. You're going to have to figure out which.
I haven't rooted or debloated. I have social media apps installed and running. I was at the Blue Angels airshow last weekend. Even being on a hot tarmac with no shade it was working fine shooting video and photos with no overheating or stuttering. It was around 31-32C in direct sunlight the whole time.
Ive already factory resetet the phone. There isnt app. Then u are using the amazing snapdragon 8 gen 2 prototyp s23u from Samsung. The 8gen 1 is a hothead. Its confirmed. 31-32°C cpu temp in direct sunlight is impossible. Even the battery is a bit hotter then....
Here an example:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/rn1ffg
And Millions more if you Google snapdragon 8 gen 1. So please stop now. Only wanted to tame it a bit cause optimzing isnt bad.

After 7 days of with the phone in my pocket, I think battery needs some serious optimization. Compared to my previous device Redmi note 6 pro on 4000mah had a lot better battery than Mi note 10 at 5260mah. Battery is draining like too fast. I'm on xiaomi eu btw.
I sincerely hope Xiaomi fixes this battery issue with a firmware update. A 5000+mah battery with a mid tier chipset should give phenomenal life.
I think we should get together and make some noise to get Xiaomi to address this. Tech reviewers are blaming the UI
I must agree on this. The battery life leaves a lot to be desired. Thought it would be amazing, but it's only marginally better than my old Nokia 7 Plus.. And the battery in that one is 3800mah.
Please optimize the software Xiaomi!
Yeah after rooting i did some digging. There is some kernel optimisation needed.
Example: Min freq is not set to 300mhz but to 5xx mhz. Also there is some kind of cpu boost enbled (i wasnt yet able to disable it) which is way too agressive, this also causes the min freq to get stuck at 13xx mhz. This cna only be solved by rebooting

Actually I am impressed by how long the battery lasts on my Mi note 10

Yeah exactly. But thats not that big problem, if you watch your CPU Stats you can see your idle freq get stuck at 13xx for both clusters. Thats quite high for idling. Also did look into the released kernel source, but couldnt find the problem
Not the biggest fan of things like LKT, but in this case it works. Sets the cpu to 300mhz and gets rid of the 12xxmhz boost! if any one want to try it aswell

I would like to feel the same optimism that you feel, but until now, I cannot. I got my phone 2 days ago, 2 full charges, one gave me 8h of SOT and the other 7h of SOT. There is something wrong here. I had more battery life with the Pocophone I had than with Mi note 10. Let's see if in a future update it gets better

Thinking about it, 4000mah sounds right. The Oppo Reno2 has a 4000mah battery, uses the same 730G chipset and has about the same screen size.
The GSMarena endurance test gave the Oppo Reno2 a 102hr endurance rating.
The Mi Note 10 scored 95hrs endurance rating.
I think we've been duped here

Hi, I want to buy the Rog 5 but I've heard that it has high temperatures even from light use (like when using YouTube it reaches 40degrees celcius). How are the overall thermals? I'm not talking about throttling I'm talking about general temperature when using the phone for light tasks. Any info would be highly appreciated. Also any info on battery life would be great too
From what I have heard from Youtube and reddit, It is a hot phone because it keeps internals in a good temperature, plus they achieved better temperature after update.

But having a warm phone isn't a good sign is it? I'm currently using a huawei p40 pro plus and it's super cool (probably because of the ceramic body). You mentioned an update, so is the rog 5 cooler after the update? On YouTube Technick ran a battery drain test and the Rog 5's peak temp was almost 60 degrees celcius

Thanks man. This really helped.
I got it a few days back, I can share some impressions. Yes, it's a hot phone. Yes CPU temp gets up to about 40 degrees sometimes when browsing or multitasking. Gaming also gets it to about 45 - 50 on CODM and Dead Cells and between 55 and upwards of 60 with Genshin Impact. A Peltier effect cooler like the FunCooler from black shark brings this down about 10 degrees. This temperature is mostly felt at the center of the display, while the sides on the back, where the batteries are, remain noticeably cooler. Perhaps their goal was to dissipate het through the display, idk.
I haven't been able to notice any drop in performance yet, even with the thermal limit set to low. What I don't know is how this affects the chip long term, but I hope it doesn't degrade for at least about 5 years. Either way I'm sticking with a cooler for Genshin impact just to make sure the device lasts longer.

40 is still too high though for normal usage. I've never heard of a phone go that warm. My huawei sits at 22 maximum.
Phone arrived 2 days ago, in my experience It Is not that hot, while browsing / YouTube / Instagram It Is cool (about 31/32 °c) and my ambient temperature Is around 20 °. I have played 1 hour call of duty and It reached 37 ° on the cpu, while the phone was hotter, especially in the middle. I think this Is how It works, getting hot outside to be colder inside. Also I updated to firmware 2102.81 which helped a lot.

When Samsung developed the Exynos 2200 it was supposed to power the central core clockspeed at 1.9GHz. After they finalized development (or possibly before they finalized development) they discovered any speed over 1.34 GHz generated unacceptable overheating. Instead of re-engineering the SoC they decide to throttle the crap out of it. In the meantime they've been tampering with the other cores in an attempt to find an acceptable balance. I would submit to date those efforts have failed. Welcome to the wonderful world of Exynos!

And I don't understand why people are still buying devices with Exynos from Samsung..Only because it's a Samsung? Don't get me wrong, I would go instantly to Huawei if they would have again GMS, because I really loved my P30 Pro, but without GMS my only alternative it's Samsung since other brands are having a lot of things that annoy me.
Welcome to Exynos !
btw, 35 isn't high. my a3 usually heats up at 40-60 (when playing games) and also has an exynos processor (Exynos 7580)
Get Good Guardians and install Thermal Guardian.
It will let you change the thermal profile, like if you are in a hot day or cold place. Also logs all the apps that might warm your device, then you can turn problem apps off or set more battery savings aka less power, aka less temp.
i found when converting .vob to .mp4 on the device it gets very hot, but of course that is quite an intensive task, i would be interested to know how a snapdragon version handles that
Snapdragon!! Very useful to Cook egs, with exynos in the last ten years and for note (with s22) never seen a minimal rise in temperature
Mine is 36.2ºC when idle, but reaching 41ºC on shell and battery temp. while lightly browsing / telegram.
I'm on Snapdragon 765G 5G.
Is that temperature normal ?
In my opinion yes, it's should be normal.

I was a little nervous since the phone has always been quite cool, and since updating to A12 I can feel the heat way more, even through the case...
Mine is 31ºC when idle. The CPU is Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

* YOU are choosing to make these modifications, don't point fingers at me if something goes wrong
*/
Ladies and gentlemen,
A small modification for you with great and HOT results.
Changes I made to the thermal configuration:
-The default Virtual-SKIN-based throttling threshold was starting at 39 Celsius, that was removed and the first threshold value is now 55 Celsius (at 55C it will HARD throttle, throttling is not completely eliminated here on purpose and at 55C it will behave the same as the default throttling mechanism at that temperature).
Keep in mind that SOC will throttle regardless of when it hits its own TjMax values so you don't need to worry about any "meltdown". lol
- Display won't switch to 60Hz anymore and neither will the maximal possible brightness be reduced as it is normally happening with stock throttling thresholds.
So far I'm using this on EvoX ROM but this should work basically on ANY ROM as the throttling is relying on the same file and as far as I managed to observe (amount of ROMs checked out) it's the same on those ROMs.
Pros:
- Throttling thresholds are drastically increased, meaning if you experienced any HIGH FPS drops during playing any "heavy" games, this will prevent that from happening to an extent and time.
- Any apps that rely on high processing power, will have more space and time to work without being affected by thermal throttling
Cons:
- Depending on your usage and what exactly you do on your phone, the device could get uncomfortably warm in your hands, and battery temperature will raise MORE than you got used to it since the SOC won't be throttled that fast as it does on the stock. Keep in mind that high battery temps are not healthy, and they will cause faster degradation. Degradation occurs anyways, the question is only how fast based on the temps the battery is being exposed to. Many OEMs allow such temps, so, Pixel 7 series with this mod isn't anything different compared to them.
- If you're a heavy "gamer" and play some games like Genshin, TOF, COD (at 120fps), etc... (you'll have a smoother experience (less FPS drops) based on slower/weaker throttling) but I recommend always using a Peltier cooler to keep that battery and the device as cool as possible (regardless if this phone or another).
Why did I create this mod?
I personally use an app called MotionCam Pro. It's basically a RAW video recording app that relies on HIGH processing power (it records RAW DNG frames) and it heats up the device pretty fast, well, Pixel 7 Pro hits the throttling threshold really fast and it's causing the recording to drop A LOT of frames to a point that the footage recorded is not "usable".
With this mod, I can now shoot RAW videos for longer periods with almost no dropped frames and under higher ambient temps. Yes, the phone warms up much more, but it does the JOB for me and that's all that matters to me anyway. I don't care if I'll need to replace my battery after 1 year instead of 2 years because I lost maybe 15-20% of the battery capacity (I upgrade my phones almost yearly).
Have fun frying eggs on your phone.

Is it possible to change threshold around 41 Celsius? 55 Celsius is quite hard temp for me, but 39 is to low. I think best for me will be around 41 ~ 42. Thanks for reply
Too bad there is no mod that limits the CPU temperature to 26 degrees Celsius 🥹

There actually is. Open up the phone, remove the "heatsink" from the SOC, and add liquid nitrogen to keep the CPU under 30c degrees.
What device has a CPU temperature lower than 30 Celsius degrees? That doesn't even happen in idle mode, and especially not with passively cooled CPU/GPUs

I've regularly seen my SOC sit between 27c and 30c when idle.

I have the temperature of the battery itself 27-35 in normal use on lte. Samsung s22 ultra Stays at 25 degrees(((
The hot battery issue was back in the Pixel 6 Pro. In summer, at 27 - 45 degrees when using social networks.
Pixel 7 pro is now - 31 degrees battery at 11 degrees room temperature .
I already have a custom kernel - does not help

Of course, it depends on the ambient temperature a lot. Don't take it literally, but you know what I meant.
As soon as you touch your phone it will start spiking way above 40c and under some load instantly 50c+.
Tensor G2's default TjMax is 100c. YES, 100c.
Thank you for this, makes things much more bearable. Stock thermal throttling is really bad.

So it does happen in idle then.
cant wait for pixel 8 pro with tensor G3 zuma manufactured in 3nm process

Indeed. I'm not a fan of the "heat", but I would rather bear with the heat on the surface of the phone than have a completely crippled phone when it hits the throttling threshold. As I mentioned, the apps I use are completely useless when that happens.

yes dropping frames when using android auto and want to record something is really annoying because phone get 40C while using android auto and you can miss good video while driving
I'm really interested in knowing how you use the MotionCam on Pixel 7 Pro. i tried it and edited the footage with the app itself and it turned out to be super noisy. Any tutorial would be awesome.
Also, do you know if it's possible for Pixel 7 Pro to get DC Dimming?
This is unfortunately not compatible with TD1A.220804.031 - causes phone to hang on G with progress bar
It seems a little counter intuitive, but my phone stays cooler in standby with this mod. I believe it is because it no longer throttles during longer tasks in the background, like photo or DropBox syncs. Of course it also heats up more while gaming, but the performance also doesn't degrade. Thanks for this OP!
@JohnTheFarm3r Does this mod work with the latest March update? Thank you!

You can test it and let us know.
I'm not on STOCK ROM. Also, I doubt Google did a big change when it comes to thermal configuration, so it should work.
Since it's a magisk module, it's easy to test, if it doesn't work, it can be removed.
