Will there ever be AOSP roms for this device?
I feel like i made such a big mistake getting this device,
I regret it too xD waiting for S23 so I can trade-in. btw I think a custom rom will void warranty since Knox will probably be tipped. Try some Optimizations in the mean while, get some custom launcher just to make your experience a little better
++1
Yep underwhelming. The ROM scene for s22u is a joke.
Wow...so I just literally bought a S22 Ultra because I was so upset with the Google Pixel 6 Pro...now I'm sad there's no custom roms for S22U, lol! Can't win for losing!
Same here, coming from xiaomi mi 9t pro / redmi k20 pro to S22 ultra and while I used to see every day 3/4 custom roms now none are there. What a big joke,
Yeah, I'm so sad about this, i thought there really would be some AOSP roms,
You will get used to.
I was in the same position when from Pocophone F1 I passed to the huawei p30 pro
You will miss it couple months atleast, will look for ways to change the device...
Chill and install some third party launchers and so some customizations

Okay so first off, I'm going to be visiting China soon and I'm looking to buy a phone from there. Considering that OnePlus and Xiaomi are very widely known, I'm only going to be considering these two companies. I'm only looking for a secondary phone. So I don't want the best of the best. But I do want a good phone. I'm currently looking at the Xiaomi redmi note 3 pro and the OnePlus One and the OnePlus X but I'm kind of ignoring the OnePlus X. So, first things first, I hate MIUI. Like I hate it to bits. But since it's a secondary phone, i don't think I'll be really that bothered. But Xiaomi is absolutely horrible with releasing kernel sources so CM won't be coming any time soon. And I love customising my device. From flashing ROMs to flashing mods, I love doing it. So my question to you is, Which one do you think should I choose? The obvious answer is of course whichever I prefer. Between its better sounding specs and that horrible horrible way to be able to have your bootloader unlocked, I'm really confused as to what would be a better device for me.
Thank You for your consideration!
Oneplus one
Considering you want to flash Roms and modify your phone I would say that go for one plus one as it has a huge developer base currently developing roms. Redmi note 3 pro is right now new and has amazing specs for half the price. Though the kernel sources will be delayed ( maybe 4 to 6 months at max hopefully) some Roms do come out after that. (Eg check mi 4 forum on mi website). So basically it's how urgently you want to get start modding your phone. The choice is up to you of course.

I'd definitely suggest Oneplus One since you like to flash ROMs and tinker with your phone. If you ultimately decide to go for the Redmi Note 3 go for the Snapdragon 650 version. Qualcomm does a good job releasing CAF source so that particular one is more likely to get support but it depends on if a maintainer picks up the device and builds a ROM for it. You could be stuck on stock for a long time

I have both. I'll go with one anytime any day
I have both. One plus is 2 years old but still looks great. I didn't have too much trouble unlocking, installing custom recovery + root on Redmi note 3 pro but it is very easy on OPO. Cm13 alpha is available for redmi note 3. For the price xiaomi is outstanding. I'd go for the xiaomi.

Look at the 2g,3g and 4g bands. OPO is better
There are lots of interesting alt roms for the Mate 9. Has anyone developed (or be willing to develop) a custom rom for thr Pro? Pretty please!
The poor pro is being left behind... I realise this is largely because of limited geographic release but it's a great phone which deserves some attention. I'm not sure how ewsy/difficult it is to adapt the mate 9 custom roms for the Mate 9 pro... Or perhaps there are some Pro owner developers out there.
FYI I'm currently running LON-L29C636B225. Latest version appears to be B229.
Thanks in advance, and apologies if I missed something on this that has been posted already.
Did you tried to install a Mate 9 Rom?

No. I have asked on threads if a mate 9 rom would work on mate 9 pro and generally got a response of no or 'not sure'. Given that the correct region also seems to be important to make these roms work, I really didn't want to risk flashing a mate 9 image on my mate 9 pro in case of bricking. The twrp I flashed is also different from the standard mate 9 version.
I saw that KangVip build a rom for Mate9/pro...

Isn't it just a different screen size/resolution? That shouldn't be a problem software size. I would imagine.

you should know that huawei phones will never have many if any custom roms. the few that have custom roms like the honor 8/P9 are loosing interest from the few devs that are trying to build roms. oreo might fix that but like i said, devs are loosing interest fast.
im waiting to see the pixel 2 and the LG v30. those will have great hardware and will have a huge custom rom support. never again huawei!

Based on your response, why did YOU yourself even bother purchasing a Huawei device when you knew that rom development was going to lack?
I already knew for months before purchasing mine that ROM development was going to be small or basically non existent and I've been a ROM flasher for many many years, this is the first device I've ever own that I didn't have to root or even flash a ROM, seems you're pretty much unsatisfied because you can't flash any custom ROMs compared to other devices

my only huawei devices have been the mate 7 which i bought brand new and a gifted bartered honor 5x and honor 8. i got rid 2 of them as soon as i could. the honor 5x is the only one i still have due to it having a snapdragon soc and a big custom rom selection.
had someone warned me about the mate 7 i would have not bought it but lesson learned. as i have stated many times, huawei hardware is great but their software is complete ****! thankfully huawei is becoming less popular on xda due to them going back on their word about providing major updates for 2 years.
to each their own i guess. you can stick with your huawei devices but most will never take hauwei serious for good reasons. LG v30 FTW!!!

Little bit of V30 fanboyism there?
EMUI 5.0 has never been a hiccup for me it's infact the best UI I have experienced so far alot better than 4.0.
Sucks to be you, should've done the research if you knew what you were getting yourself into but you learned it the hard way, but each to their own.
I rather have a device that rarely anyone knows about VS a phone or a brand that everyone knows, have fun with your V30, cuz I'm pretty content where I'm at, no need to go batsh** over what ROM has marginally better battery life or what kernel provided better performance or signal strength with modem files. TBH at least some credibility is due for them for actually polishing up EMUI, if they didn't care this brand wouldn't get far ?

Great - I didn't know about this one! The only challenge for me is the Chinese forum. I know I can google transalte but it is still a bit of a struggle - especiall;y to post questions etc.
I was hoping that some of the custom versions for the Mate 9 could easily be adapted for the Pro. I guess the Pro is a mainly Chinese audience. Depsite these ROMs being based on EMUI, I was pleased of late to see that more of them are coming out. Just not for the pro!
I also notice that the kernel source has been released. Although those experimenting are still experiencing some issues with it. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/kernel-source-t3639912
But hopefully this means renewed iinterest from developes for an ASOP ROM for both mate 9 and the Pro!
I'm just curious about any developments porting this feature to other handset roms.
I have a redmi note 4 as my, now, spare phone after buying a zte axon 7 as my main (great phone), it is now broke so have replaced it with a oneplus 5t, which has yet to arrive (any day now). I was really juggling between the Xiaomi mi 6 and the oneplus 5t and now I've opted for the 5t, and while I await its arrival and am back using my note 4 with its second space, which I do use. I find myself regretting selecting the 5t.
I find this, second space, feature so amazing yet it doesn't appear top of the list of custom roms and I can only assume because devs have not tried it yet.
I never tried dual apps on my axon 7 so maybe that's better, but still I do like the second space.
So, yeah, is there any devs trying to port it? is there any alternative?
Thanks
edit: Ok ignore this thread. Apparently there are alternative versions of this feature in the oneplus 5t, so I shall assume similar in most handsets now.
So, I got a oneplus 5t.. lovely phone, but regretting not getting the xaomi mi 6 now; as lovely as this phone (1+5t) is the parallel apps feature is massively limited.
Thinking of installing parallel space app from store but... Ahhh...

SecondSpace is the only reason I do not install 3rd party ROMs on my Xiaomi phones. I love the Xiaomi huge batteries and everything else you get at this price point. It's a steal! I really don't care for the MIUI system because it's just too ordinary. But I love 2nd space so much that I put up with the vanilla MIUI. I do root the phones, however. One interesting problem is that SecondSpace communicates through the wireless infrastructure in 1st space in some cryptic fashion. It gets blocked by the firewall in 1st space, but I can't figure out how.
I miss second space. Had to resort to using my spare phone (a respectable honor 8), but in this instance I'd still prefer just having to carry a single phone.
I have the Global Version of the Poco F2, the updates on this device have been terrible, I will be exchanging phones from the Poco to a Mi 10 Pro, this is only my opinion but it had great potential, no updates, the lack of security patches at least and some bugs I have encountered have made my experience worst.
I hope they give you your updates.
I hope my experience with the Mi 10 Pro will be good.
I had mi 10 pro before this f2. Good phone

Good for you. I bought the F2 Pro mainly because of the big battery and the pop-up front camera, which is great for paranoid people like me. That was nearly 2 months ago and my phone has been switched off since then due to lack of custom ROMs, because I'm not a fan of Chinese software. I agree that Xiaomi support for our devices is laughable though, but I have no valid alternative to switch to.

Yeah I get you, I almost of the times switch phones, but the lack of updates has made my mind on changing it. It is a good phone tho, I have a bug where if I do or receive a call and if I talk with the earpiece they don't hear me, I have to go into speaker and then again to earpiece to be able to talk normally. My signal hasn't been stable tho, I have a redmi note 8 pro which supports same bands and it doesn't have that problem, switching Rat mode doesn't seem to do any effect either. There are many things that need to be fixed but this are software problems.
Hardware wise I haven't had any problem.
The mi note 10 was good but just remembered 1 bug. The curved edge always made false presses. Done my head in!!
I can get a Mi10 for the same price as a F2 Pro and I took the F2 Pro, because few min. Mi10 make me sick, curved and **** hole.
Thinking also about swapping Poco for Find X2 Pro
What do you mean lack of updates? I have had three already! They have updated it to miui 12 and now they have got to update it to Android 11, be patient.
Just install Xiaomi.eu ROM and forget about oficial global ROM. Anyways only 2020 phone worth to get instead POCO F2 Pro is Oneplus 8 Pro and you need spend more money, Mi 10 Pro is garbage having the Oneplus 8 Pro and Oneplus 8 normal version is not worth compared to Poco F2 Pro. Another alternatives are new Oneplus Nord and you save money or 2019 top phones like Oneplus 7T or Realme X2 Pro.
And still every phone have annoying hole or notch, so Poco is the only one choice if you want a clean screen.
Definitely worth getting off global onto xiaomi.eu then? I've had the phone about 4 days and not sure how much work is required to make the switch.
I imagine it's just bootloader unlock, twrp install then clean flash. After that any regular updates should be easy?

I'm the same I've got a OnePlus 5T that's getting old and the battery life isn't great. Got this because of the battery life, pop up camera, headphone jack. The specs and features are awesome, but the lack of custom ROM support is terrible. I haven't actually began using the phone and was more trying to debloat it, but having issues finding how I can remove everything Google and Xiaomi related without crashing the phone.
I'm not in an urgent hurry to change over, but yeh if LineageOS or any other ROM was released it would be an awesome option. Even I'd be happy with a MIUI ROM that was fully debloated and without gapps, as it's proving tricky to work out what I can remove.
I had a Huawei Mate 8 previously and said I'd never again get a phone that has limited support. I almost went for the OnePlus 8 Pro, but has no headphone jack. Otherwise I almost would go for the OnePlus 7 Pro and just put up with no headphone jack as there's a lot of development for that, but it is old.

I'm using One plus 9 for 4 months and I really like it. The performance is good compared to other flagship phones and I didn't change the custom ROM till now. There is no problem with the ROM but my only regret is the battery drains faster when I see high-quality videos from Youtube.

I have the OP 9 from launch, hoping it would have the same custom ROM support as its predecessors (I've been sn intermittent OnePlus customer from the original OnePlus One).
Sadly, when mauronofrio departed the TWRP scene, the community never recovered. The lack of a fully functional updated TWRP has caused the development community to essentially wither away, with maybe 2-3 viable custom ROMs standing. That's terrible compared to the past.
Bottom line is that I migrated to the Pixel 6 Pro, where I hoped to find a more vibrant developer community. Same thing here. No TWRP. It's relative desolation. Sigh.
I like the device overall sure go for it, but still if you have a great deal on a SD865+ phone, buy that instead. The SD888 is great and all but only on paper, it heats up quicker than 865 and 855 and then whoosh all the great performance is gone.
