I've been patient but I will exchange phones - Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro (Redmi K30 Pro) Questions & Ans

I have the Global Version of the Poco F2, the updates on this device have been terrible, I will be exchanging phones from the Poco to a Mi 10 Pro, this is only my opinion but it had great potential, no updates, the lack of security patches at least and some bugs I have encountered have made my experience worst.
I hope they give you your updates.
I hope my experience with the Mi 10 Pro will be good.

I had mi 10 pro before this f2. Good phone

Good for you. I bought the F2 Pro mainly because of the big battery and the pop-up front camera, which is great for paranoid people like me. That was nearly 2 months ago and my phone has been switched off since then due to lack of custom ROMs, because I'm not a fan of Chinese software. I agree that Xiaomi support for our devices is laughable though, but I have no valid alternative to switch to.

Yeah I get you, I almost of the times switch phones, but the lack of updates has made my mind on changing it. It is a good phone tho, I have a bug where if I do or receive a call and if I talk with the earpiece they don't hear me, I have to go into speaker and then again to earpiece to be able to talk normally. My signal hasn't been stable tho, I have a redmi note 8 pro which supports same bands and it doesn't have that problem, switching Rat mode doesn't seem to do any effect either. There are many things that need to be fixed but this are software problems.
Hardware wise I haven't had any problem.

The mi note 10 was good but just remembered 1 bug. The curved edge always made false presses. Done my head in!!

I can get a Mi10 for the same price as a F2 Pro and I took the F2 Pro, because few min. Mi10 make me sick, curved and **** hole.

Thinking also about swapping Poco for Find X2 Pro

What do you mean lack of updates? I have had three already! They have updated it to miui 12 and now they have got to update it to Android 11, be patient.

Just install Xiaomi.eu ROM and forget about oficial global ROM. Anyways only 2020 phone worth to get instead POCO F2 Pro is Oneplus 8 Pro and you need spend more money, Mi 10 Pro is garbage having the Oneplus 8 Pro and Oneplus 8 normal version is not worth compared to Poco F2 Pro. Another alternatives are new Oneplus Nord and you save money or 2019 top phones like Oneplus 7T or Realme X2 Pro.
And still every phone have annoying hole or notch, so Poco is the only one choice if you want a clean screen.

Definitely worth getting off global onto xiaomi.eu then? I've had the phone about 4 days and not sure how much work is required to make the switch.
I imagine it's just bootloader unlock, twrp install then clean flash. After that any regular updates should be easy?

I'm the same I've got a OnePlus 5T that's getting old and the battery life isn't great. Got this because of the battery life, pop up camera, headphone jack. The specs and features are awesome, but the lack of custom ROM support is terrible. I haven't actually began using the phone and was more trying to debloat it, but having issues finding how I can remove everything Google and Xiaomi related without crashing the phone.
I'm not in an urgent hurry to change over, but yeh if LineageOS or any other ROM was released it would be an awesome option. Even I'd be happy with a MIUI ROM that was fully debloated and without gapps, as it's proving tricky to work out what I can remove.
I had a Huawei Mate 8 previously and said I'd never again get a phone that has limited support. I almost went for the OnePlus 8 Pro, but has no headphone jack. Otherwise I almost would go for the OnePlus 7 Pro and just put up with no headphone jack as there's a lot of development for that, but it is old.

Thanks for that. I started the process of bootloader unlock, it took many tries of the exact same steps before it acknowledged a valid account and then started then 7 day timer, how anticlimactic lol.

I suggest you go for the stable version because the beta has some certification issues at the moment. Unless you need root and also like to fiddle around

OnePlus One vs Xiaomi Redmi note 3 pro.

Okay so first off, I'm going to be visiting China soon and I'm looking to buy a phone from there. Considering that OnePlus and Xiaomi are very widely known, I'm only going to be considering these two companies. I'm only looking for a secondary phone. So I don't want the best of the best. But I do want a good phone. I'm currently looking at the Xiaomi redmi note 3 pro and the OnePlus One and the OnePlus X but I'm kind of ignoring the OnePlus X. So, first things first, I hate MIUI. Like I hate it to bits. But since it's a secondary phone, i don't think I'll be really that bothered. But Xiaomi is absolutely horrible with releasing kernel sources so CM won't be coming any time soon. And I love customising my device. From flashing ROMs to flashing mods, I love doing it. So my question to you is, Which one do you think should I choose? The obvious answer is of course whichever I prefer. Between its better sounding specs and that horrible horrible way to be able to have your bootloader unlocked, I'm really confused as to what would be a better device for me.
Thank You for your consideration!
Oneplus one
Considering you want to flash Roms and modify your phone I would say that go for one plus one as it has a huge developer base currently developing roms. Redmi note 3 pro is right now new and has amazing specs for half the price. Though the kernel sources will be delayed ( maybe 4 to 6 months at max hopefully) some Roms do come out after that. (Eg check mi 4 forum on mi website). So basically it's how urgently you want to get start modding your phone. The choice is up to you of course.

I'd definitely suggest Oneplus One since you like to flash ROMs and tinker with your phone. If you ultimately decide to go for the Redmi Note 3 go for the Snapdragon 650 version. Qualcomm does a good job releasing CAF source so that particular one is more likely to get support but it depends on if a maintainer picks up the device and builds a ROM for it. You could be stuck on stock for a long time

I have both. I'll go with one anytime any day
I have both. One plus is 2 years old but still looks great. I didn't have too much trouble unlocking, installing custom recovery + root on Redmi note 3 pro but it is very easy on OPO. Cm13 alpha is available for redmi note 3. For the price xiaomi is outstanding. I'd go for the xiaomi.

Look at the 2g,3g and 4g bands. OPO is better

Is the One plus 6 a worthy replacement for a Huawei P20 Pro?

4 months in owning my first Huawei device and I already miss stock android. I've had Oneplus phones in the past and i have absolutely love them. So would you say the Oneplus 6 is a worthy alternative to the P20 Pro?
If you've owned them before and you know you like the feel of the OS, then I think you're the only one that can answer that question. There are some things you'll trade off, but you'll get stock(ish) OS, and faster updates.

Probably yes, based on what you want. If you'd like to sacrifice your camera (not so much) for a stock and improved OS, fast updates and large community support, well, go on!

Before buying. Some questions

Hello fellow XDA users. I decided to change my aging mi5, my first thought was mi mix 2s, but i realized that almost none of the phones has home button nowadays, and maybe i'm old school, but it's kind of important to me. I realized that maybe only huawei and oneplus is the one which is keeping this feature, and since p20 is more pretty for me, i'm really onto buying it… but of course i'm not sure about it, i'm a sucker for stock android, and as i see, there isn't any custom rom here.
Are you generally satisfied with the Huawei rom? Is there anyone working on custom rom? If so, will it be any soon available? For users who are already having the phone, any regrets? Would you choose any different phone if you bought today?
Would greatly appreciate any answers,
cheers.
The Huawei ROM is fine, no limitations, all you need in my opinion. Never felt I have to change the ROM.
I loved the home button in my Honor 9 before. It works well on P20 but, somehow because of the position (bigger screen) the onscreen buttons are easier to reach.

Hi
I am living in UK and one of my chinese friend want to buy a new phone but not Apple.... He asked me and i was suggest P20. Now he want it to buy in China but using it in UK. So my question is the chinese OS will work in UK without limitations? I mean google map, google translation etc.? Or is only one "global" OS on P20 not like Oneplus where is HydrogenOS in Chinese region and OxygenOS for Europe etc.?

MIUI 12 OTA versions for Global?

I see that the MIUI 12 stable version (V12.0.1.0.QFDCNXM) for the Chinese ROM came out a few days ago: https://www.xda-developers.com/down...ing-out-several-xiaomi-redmi-mi-poco-devices/
Has anyone received the stable update on the international versions?
Also, would the China version install without unlocking the bootloader and what would be the differences between it and the Global, other than languages?
I'm pretty sure the main difference between the Chinese version and the Global version is that the Chinese version doesn't include Google apps, but the Global one does.
There is also a lot of chinese/ junk apps included.
Global/ eu releases is generally two weeks later than cn releases.
The Chinese version includes MUIU dialer, with but in call recording.
Unfortunately I doubt you could install a China rom, or MUIU dialer, without unlocking your phone first.
Sent from my Mi Note 10 using Tapatalk
You can install Indonesia version it has miui dialer and call recording, but until now there no miui 12
They said that the mi note 10 will be updated to miui 12 starting from August but not sure when

So I can install the Indonesian version on my Global Mi Note 10 without unlocking it?
I'm interested in using the miui dialer for call recording.
I guess you can't simply install the dialer alone?
I might look into this, thanks

I am on MIUI 12.1 (weekly, but stable 12 is there too) eu release (miuios.cz - it is MIUI ROM from Chinese version, not from Global (where is still no official MIUI12 release), but good translated (no translate for outer languages from Xiaomi, better translate from european translators) and added all google things etc. and without chinese bloatware.
Working pretty well without problems.
my mistake

I don't think performance is an issue. I've just downloaded and installed these same superwallpapers unlocked for all Android phones from this forum and they run fine with no issues on the note 10.
It's just annoying as they should be included with this Note 10 global MIUI 12 update. You get the same result with this work around, but it just feels like your running none stock versions and you have to use google wallpapers. It's not a huge issue, just annoying as it's not like the Note 10 is a really cheap phone.

They haven't included Super Wallpapers in SD730 phones.
I have the Super Wallpapers on my Mi Note 10, but I can see why Xiaomi did not include them on SD730 phones. The performance is OK, but there are a lot of framedrops when opening/closing demanding apps, also when opening the new control center/notification tray. It's not bad, it's just not good enough.
Some people complain about framedrops in MIUI, and it would get worse with superwallpapers.

Yes we can agree with that. It just saddens me a bit to see such an expensive midranger from last year struggeling already with such a simple thing - especially powered by a "gaming SoC". Its not like a hefty task. Encountered some framedrops with Archero as well.
To bad the Mi 10 cameras suck and the Pro is way to expensive. Poco F2 is to big and pop up camera + indisplay sensor is asking for troubles.
Honestly speaking I don't believe its the SoC but more or less a lack of optimization of Kernel Parameters, especially since its Android 10 now.

It's definitely optimization. On my Oppo Find X2 Pro (SD865), with super wallpapers on, the system ui also drops frames. Of course, this is because its not made for that phone. But that's where it needs optimization. I think they already tried to optimize it a bit, but they didnt succeed to meet the quality standards, so they just let the super wallpapers slip on SD730 phones.
Because, it's really not that bad, its just that the phones does get slower with the super wallpapers on on the Mi Note 10. And if normal consumers use these super wallpapers, they blame Xiaomi for a slower phone.
More things need optimization in MIUI. For example the camera app lags a lot. Not just with the 108MP camera, but also with the ultrawide and tele (2x, 3.7x)
[Warning, my own opinion below]
If it is the hardware, then it is what it is. The cameras are flagship-grade and thats where they put all the money into. Plus, they chose a curved screen. The build is also very premium for Xiaomi standards. (not as premium as a real flagship though, it still misses the real flagship feel, but better than all of the other Xiaomi phones I had)
Also don't forget the extremely good battery on this phone. I only paid €330 for this device, and I am very happy with it. I already have the best performance on my Oppo, so that's why I didn't choose the Poco or 10 Lite as a second phone. I also just love MIUI. ColorOS (7) and Oxygen OS are so boring. But yeah, you sacrifice that there are more bugs and framedrops, but atleast they try to be creative. This is NOT a mainstream opinion though haha.

Yea, we can agree that the Note 10 is something special. I'd just hope it gets a bit more attention in regards to finetuning it like the past phones from Xiaomi. The thing is more or less Googles fault with its recent move against root and unlocked bootloaders. It keeps developers away which means less third-party kernels and less community involvement like in the past. It feels a little bit like they gave up on the Mi Note 10 and moved to Mi 10 - just due to the SoC and RAM.
Hows the camera software in the Oppo? I've looked at a few reviews and found very satisfying samples making me understand how Oppo and Vivo are before Xiaomi now in China. Only thing keeping me away are prices, language and warranty for EU. Even imports are just to pricey. Aside from that Oppo is on my "want to have list" as well together with the Vivo F4 Pro. I've long since gave up on OnePlus, on the other hand, mind you - but that's also very subjective.

The camera software is pretty good. The colors are very natural, no focus issues, no framedrops in video, stable video (also on 4k60). I am pretty satisfied. I don't like the colors though when AI is on.
I have bought my Oppo Find X2 Pro at my carrier here in the Netherlands with 2 years of local warranty. They use the same (awful) repair company as Samsung and Apple use here.
The rest of the software (ColorOS) is good, but boring. ColorOS nowadays feels as if its OxygenOS with their ''not-so-pretty'' UI changes. The performance is very good with almost no framedrops (but there are very little animations lol). The only thing that's not so great is the battery life. (standby)
But yeah, its an expensive phone. I paid €950 for it. There were just no other choices. Mi 10 Pro only has an 90Hz display @1080P. OnePlus only 3X tele and 256GB for the same price (+the huge display issues). Samsung only possible when importing, but that would have been very expensive and no local warranty (bcs of Exynos, which is just trash, not just the performance but also huge standby drain). The Oppo has everything spec-wise (only thing that is not possible is unlocking the bootloader, hence why I bought a second phone too).

Question Do you recommend this device?

Hey everyone, I'm thinking of upgrading from my run-down Redmi K20 Pro.
Do you recommend this device in general? How's thermal performance? How's the custom ROM scene? Do you have any regrets?

I'm using One plus 9 for 4 months and I really like it. The performance is good compared to other flagship phones and I didn't change the custom ROM till now. There is no problem with the ROM but my only regret is the battery drains faster when I see high-quality videos from Youtube.

I have the OP 9 from launch, hoping it would have the same custom ROM support as its predecessors (I've been sn intermittent OnePlus customer from the original OnePlus One).
Sadly, when mauronofrio departed the TWRP scene, the community never recovered. The lack of a fully functional updated TWRP has caused the development community to essentially wither away, with maybe 2-3 viable custom ROMs standing. That's terrible compared to the past.
Bottom line is that I migrated to the Pixel 6 Pro, where I hoped to find a more vibrant developer community. Same thing here. No TWRP. It's relative desolation. Sigh.
I like the device overall sure go for it, but still if you have a great deal on a SD865+ phone, buy that instead. The SD888 is great and all but only on paper, it heats up quicker than 865 and 855 and then whoosh all the great performance is gone.
