How black wallpaper can save your battery

In the smartphone market the majority of displays are either AMOLED or LCD, but many people don't know that the wallpaper color you choose, yes, wallpaper, can actually make a difference to your smartphone battery life depending on the type of screen with which your device is equipped. Pure black wallpaper, or a dark-colored background in general, can actually save you a significant amount of battery life.
Display tech explained: LCD
LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display and it's the same kind of technology you'll find in your televisions, monitors and so on. As the name suggests, Liquid Crystal Displays are actually crystals, and as such, they don't emit light of their own but rather transmit light from a light source behind them.
This means that even if you're looking at black on your smartphone or tablet screen, it is actually black lit up from behind. Therefore, LCDs don't really display "true" black
Display tech explained: AMOLED and OLED
Next, AMOLED. AMOLED stands for Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode and it is also used for televisions screens but more notably, for smartphones. OLED displays are similar, but do not use an Active Matrix.
Samsung displays, for example, are usually AMOLED: the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 4 all use an AMOLED display. The LG G Flex 2 uses a Plastic OLED display and the Google Nexus 6 also uses an AMOLED screen.
As the name implies, the screen is made up of organic material that actually produces light when a current is passed through it – electroluminescence. Because AMOLED displays can be lit up pixel by pixel like on the Moto X, black is "true" black because there is no back-lighting.
This also means AMOLED displays are easier on your battery because every pixel is not always lit up.
Battery life: AMOLED vs LCD
AMOLED
You can probably see where this is going: if you have an AMOLED display then you can actually save some battery life by using black wallpapers, or generally darker wallpapers and themes.
little experiment and figured out that you can save about 6% battery life/hour at 20% brightness by using a black wallpaper on an AMOLED display, and about 8%/hour at full brightness.
These results are based on an always-on screen, but the basic theory is sound even if the figures are not exactly set in stone. Another tester using a different method came up with a general 18% saving all day.
LCD
What about LCD battery saving wallpaper, I hear you ask? Sorry, LCDs rely on back-lighting, so there's nothing you can do to save battery there.
The only thing you can do is set your device settings to Battery Saver mode and try not to turn your screen on all the time. Keep your display brightness as low as possible and your screen timeout nice and short.
The good news is you can have the brightest colored wallpaper and themes imaginable and it won't make a difference to your battery. Just think about that when you look at the gloomy screens of AMOLED owners clinging to extended battery life (just don't stray too far from a charger while you gloat).
Other battery life tips for AMOLED screens
There are other things AMOLED owners can do to maximize their battery life too, like setting as many app themes to be as dark as possible.
If you can change the appearance of a bunch of apps you use frequently (or download a different app that does the same thing but that does allow appearance customization), you can save even more battery life.
After all, we don't spend all day on our home screens but more time in apps. You can also set your text and email preferences to be black background and white text, depending on your device and chosen apps.
The easiest way to figure it out for yourself is to fully charge your device as is and wait until it's almost totally dead and look at how much of your battery was used by the display. Just go into your Settings menu and look under Device Settings for Battery.
Make a note of the percentage your display has used up, then, while recharging your phone, switch to a black wallpaper and repeat the cycle to see the difference.
Great app :good:

Burn in? Fixed by liquidremix( software ) and samsung ( hardware) ??

As we know one plus 6 has a stunning optic amoled manufacter by samsung
galaxy s8 and s9 display panel are little different.. Jerry rig on youtube video show that new s9/note 9 display panel can't be burned by fire during 60 second of fire ( the s8 pixel burned and not restored). Only the oleopobic coating is removed due to fire but pixels restore normally like lcd panels. Interesting technology . Since one plus buy display from samsung and it has been released after s9, it may be possible to have this new stronger technology to help device from fire and burn in
OK BURN IN IT DOES NOT MATTER WITH FIRE BECAUSE IS PIXEL DEGRADATION DUE TO STATIC IMAGES FOR LONG TIME DISPLAY ON.. BUT SINCE SAMSUNG S9 PIXELS ARE MORE STRONGER, THIS COULD AVOID BURN IN FOR LONG TIME
my question is : Anyone know if this tecnology is present on op6??
Now for software
liquidremix and some other roms like aosp extended has the pixel shifting to prevent burn in( mine setting is 15 sec ) .. My question is : Is this features move only the status/nav bar or all statics images like wallpaper and icons... ???
I can only speak for HavocOS, but it shifts all pixels on screen once every 15 seconds to 1 hour (Shift frequency is adjustable in settings.) when burn-in protection is enabled.

Is it possible to get burn in protection feature on oxygen somehow?

i think one plus already implement a similar technology like other flagship.. for example light status bar icon like grey.. light nav bar colors and can be replaced with gestures ... but in my opinion liquid remix is the best in term of smoothness and is as fast as oxygen os .. also it has a better burn in protection for long term usage

Samsung Galaxy A20 - The good and the bad

O.K, the Samsung Galaxy A20 is a budget phone (I bought mine for AU$239) so I do not expect any "flagship" performance but the initial attraction was the Amoled display that has some degree of daylight readability, reasonable camera performance, the relatively big battery capacity for SoC size and the glimmer of hope in rooting this device.
After a little while, some things becomes apparent which I would like to share:
There is no light sensor so screen brightness cannot adapt to ambient light....a strange and disappointing omission
The phone is made in Vietnam not South Korea...just an observation
The heavily embedded bloat from Samsung and Google is chronic in magnitude and its primary purpose is for harvesting personal information and pushing ads
Fingerprint lock works efficiently but the rear sensor is hard to locate
WiFi reception range is poor.
The Android One UI is pleasingly clean but the Settings menus are a bit disorganized
Root can be achieved relatively easily but is "precarious" to say the least.
Show me your good and bad list

It had no light sensor but somehow it uses the cameras to adjust to ambient light.
Update after using for some time.....
I really miss not having a notification LED - a backwards step to delete it for the notched display fad. An edge LED would have been great but that would cost 3c to include.....
Mobile reception is noticeably weaker than my old Moto G 2013 and Xiaomi Redmi Note2 - another backwards step!

I agree. I came from a Nexus 6P and found the notification light very handy. It's not a deal breaker for me though.
Does anyone know if the A20 has an oleophobic layer on the screen?
This might be stupid question but why does my A20 SM-A205G not have NFC there is no options under settings or on status bar to activate it but I see some SM-A205U have it and other 205g have enabled, do I have the chip in phone already? Just need to flash other firmware to use it? Has anyone else had any luck activating NFC?
I've had the phone about a month now and coming from an LG V30 before this I can say that despite all the cons I'm overall happier with this phone over that garbage. Barely.
Pros:
The A20 camera is much better with low light
Apps seem to crash less
I also like the Samsung UI more than I expected
The samsung keyboard is so much better than any other keyboard I've been able to find in the app store
I like how the lock button is on the side instead of the back like on the V30
Cons:
The camera is still pretty grainy even in sunlight
The auto screen brightness sucks balls. I can't even count how many times the screen dimmed & brightened just in the last few mins while I'm sitting in one spot
I also very much notice the lack of ram. It feels really laggy at times, like a 5 second delay when I'm just typing or sometimes I'll tap and it'll register as a hold
I can easily see the downgrade in screen resolution when watching videos
The proximity sensor. I'll be in a call and occasionally my face will mute the call or dial numbers
Or when I had the feature activated to double tap to turn on the screen, it would turn on in my pocket all the time and mess with buttons or sliders. On numerous occasions my phone would be ringing and I'd pull it out to find out my leg was messing with the volume slider. Not once did the LG do that
And finally I should've looked into the ability to root this phone before I got it. I have the A205U sadly and didn't make sure it's even unlockable with all the extensive research I was doing while I was looking to replace my LG

I have the same question.... I've seen through the internet many sites saying the a20 has nfc, and even give instructions for activating it , but i couldn't.... Wether it has or not, I'm not certain at all.
Any way to activate nfc using root or something else of the sort?

where find display review for phones

I want site or review for display phone
but what i need is measure harms on eye
so what aspect need to know in display to know which better display

Question Always on display on Poco X3 Pro

Hey, we do not have option to set always on display on Poco X3 Pro,but is there any way to do that? Or any aplication? I try some from Googleplay, but they are for amoled screens. Thanks for any answers .
An always on display makes no sense with an IPS panel.

Cut&Paste from Quora (I'm lazy!):
Here’s the main difference between OLED screens and LCD screens: when an OLED screen displays black, the pixels are powered off, so the battery is not being drained by the screen but when an LCD screen displays black, it does so by tinting the backlight dark, which means the screen is still generating light and is hence draining the battery.
An always on display requires the screen to show the time (and some extra details) constantly. In an OLED screen, this means only the pixels that are displaying the time are turned on, which results in less battery drain. But when it comes to LCD displays, there’s no difference in battery drain during always on display versus normal usage (taking into consideration only battery drain due to display).

There are no apps for always on display on LCD screen's , only if you move to an custom AOSP rom, you will find that feature (but you will experience battery draining!!!).
Also the led of your ips-panel will degrade super damn fast

Better read my post again, preferably two or three times, and then you may understand why an AoD on an LCD / IPS panel makes relatively little sense. Does it basically work? Yes it does and I have never said anything to the contrary.

Holly damn... How people like that manage to live in this world if they think and act like that....
AoD on device with IPS screen is like keeping engine running in the car ALL THE TIME even if you park it in your garage during night....

yea i know, but i talk about more user's choice, not company or MIUI choice. i hope AoD still work in IPS panel.
in ur post u explain how AoD and screen work and hardware work, but here i more talk about choice AoD software. There is ton explanation about different LCD and AMOLED in youtube and i already watched it, so i no need explanation about panel.
Thankyou

yea i know, but give user's choice without rooting or change OS. that what i want or people want (maybe). there is phone out there, has option to turn on AoD. user's already (or must ) know what effect if turn on AoD. if user use IPS panel, maybe u cant longer turn on AoD than AMOLED panel. just need complex setting, simple as that
