Tried the Noob Friendly "Ask ANY Question" thread, got no answer so I'm going to make a thread just to try and get some help.
Bought a GS4 with US Cellular, currently trying to root it using the motochopper method.
I followed the root instructions using Motochopper exactly, and it appears to work. Superuser is installed on my device, etc, but whenever I attempt run Superuser, I am informed that the Superuser binary must be updated. Naturally, I click "Install", but I am greeted with this message:
"There was an error installing Superuser. Please send a log of the error to the developer."
There is no log.
Yes I have USB Debugging enabled
Yes I installed the drivers
What am I doing wrong here?
The ONLY thing I can think is that there might have been an error with the driver installation - When I plug my phone into my computer it tries to autoplay-install drivers even though I already ran the installer for the drivers before I plugged the device in.
I'm completely lost, any help would be appreciated.
Bump....
Anyone out there who has any experience with USC GS4?

I'm not any help, but I experienced the same thing on both of my GS4's and am still looking for a solution.
I'm not a pro but...
I also had this exact same problem. After all the time I spent looking for an answer and not finding one, I eventually found a different method. Which is the twrp method found at galaxy s4 root (dotcom) . Also if you have problems with that method, there are lots of comments and one of them probably address your issue. Speaking from recent experience I'm going to suggest downloading Root checker from the play store because it sounds like you don't actually have root yet. Also, what I had to do with me Sch-r970 is uninstall superuser and go with supersu instead (which is what is included with the above method) , and yank my battery out immediately after running Odin so it doesn't wipe it out. I honestly was just wanting to root mostly to use my s4 as a hot spot but after rooting, have yet to figure that out yet. Good luck.
I am working in China, I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy A8. How can I root it?
I have tried Kingoroot without success. I tried a few other one-click root PC apps, they all can't do it.
Let me just say I'm what you guys might call a noob, I don't really understand this stuff yet.
I mainly want to root the phone so I can install Google Play, Android phones in China are not set up for it unless you root the phone and configure it yourself.
I'm dead keen to do this, as it annoys me greatly that I bought a phone and am seemingly denied the regular usage of that phone.
So in my research I also heard about a thing called Odin which you can use to install a new rom on a Samsung phone. And I came across a Chinese website which gave info on a rom you can install on an A8 which after installation means the phone is rooted. I got Odin and the rom now but I'm clueless what to do next really.
I'm thinking the phone has to be rooted to use Odin on it anyway, am I right? And if I do install the rom, it will wipe the phone right? Lose all the data and apps I've installed on it, right? I don't want that to happen, is there a mway to secure the data, put it all back just the way it was beforer the 'rooted rom' is installed?
Like I said I'm clueless really, but I'm trying to proceed cautiously, I'd be grateful for any advice.
I think that I'm going to have the same problem next week, when I get my new Samsung Galaxy A8
Have you tried methods from this page?

In that link they say, that Frama Root App (Galaxy A8 is not on the supported devices list) worked for A800YZ in their case, but some users have had problems. Can I safely try it, without worrying that it could damage my phone? (Losing knox 0x0 is OK!)
Easy Root
so you can Easy Root almost any phone (maybe) with no risks , no data loss and absolutely no brick , follow the steps.
1_Make sure that your phone is plugged in and it have "USB Debugging" enabled ( you know how right ?)
2_Download Mobogenie for PC here >upload<<<<<.mobogenie.com<<<<</mu/release/Mobogenie_Setup_3.3.7_10002<<<<<.exe
"REMOVE THE <<<<<"
3_after the setup is done open it and click on "Please connect to your device"
4_after the device is connected go to "Toolkit" tab in the middle left and choose "One-click Root"
make sure you have internet access !
then you'll notice a small wide white status bar , that means you're starting the Root operation
5_after that a window will open with your phone model shown on it asking you rooting or no
6_click in Root and wait until it's done , then Congratulations on your safely Rooting
I hope i helped you
No you haven't helped at all to be honest, your post seems like spam.
None of these automatic one-click root programs can currently root the Samsung A8, if you had read above you would see I've already tried most of them, the best of them actually, KIngoroot, Framaroot, KIngroot, all ineffective. So you honestly think your little app can do it?
Is there anyone out there with real help to offer?

I am in a similar situation to you. I used Odin and the SpaceX A800F firmware however all goes fine until the writing of the new firmware begins. The log prints out the write has failed and then I am presented with a mandarin screen saying the device is locked out and I need to visit samsung.com/cn. I can reset the device and use as normal.
My quest to crack this continue and will let you know if I succeeded. 加油!
Having the same Issue
My phone died on me and I had to run out to get a new one. I forgot China has restrictive programs and custom OS to block anything they don't want.
I am trying to root the phone and hitting walls. I might to take to a shop and do it.
can i flash polish language to A8 ?
Disable android device manager in device administrator tab and go to download mode then flash spacex kernel. (Disabling will remove frp lock) I tried it's worked on my a800f

bro i have root file for Samsung A8 A800YZ and i have rooted my phone. if some one need the file, i need some donation before i can send the file. its easy to use, just flash it using odin. thanks.
So I finally managed to root A800F 6.0.1 thanks to @rs1981
Link for TWRP: http://www.4shared.com/get/oUigxM-6ba/TWRP_302-0.html
Downloaded supersu from:
1. Make sure usb debugging is on and oem unlock is on
2. copy supersu file into phone
3. Turn off phone and go into download mode (vol down+home+power)
4. Connect to pc and flash TWRP file via odine (make sure you untick autoreboot)
5. When flash passes unplug phone and hold (vol down+home+power) immediately once the screen turns black switch to (vol up+home+power) even if you see the red error keep holding and TWRP will open
6. Flash the Supersu file that you copied from TWRP and wipe delvik cache then reboot to system
Supersu should be installed and you should have root.
Thanks again @rs1981
Been trying to root A8 all day with no luck... It took me 10 mins using this method
all old methods are not working with latest firmware. follow this guide - https://forum.xda-developers.com/sa...-samsung-galaxy-a8-a800f-a800i-6-0-1-t3529327
as the title says, does anyone know of a noob friendly guide to doing a full root on the S7 G930F version? managed to get twrp installed (whether its done properly or not is another question) but i cant seem to get magisk installed and working, mainly want to root my phone for the benefits and still play games like pokemon go
since putting twrp on my phone i keep getting device security alerts saying "Unauthorized actions have been detected. Restart your phone to undo these actions."
EDIT: i put my phone back to stock with stock recovery using smart switch and following a guide on here, if no one recommends a guide soon then ill have to wing it and follow some random guide on youtube or where ever.

That is a knox related error , try to disable the:
SecurityLogAgent service
the main reason to root my S7 is to spoof on pokemon go and for the life of me, i cant figure out how to, got the root done with twrp with magisk installed, tried different apps to move the gps joystick app to system app but they didnt work and the few that DID manage to work never gave me the option to choose system mode in the app for it to work so unless someone here has a guide on how to get it to work, with a S7 fully update(even if i do have to downgrade) i will be extremely thankful
Hi all. Have come across a few threads which are indicating that 8.1 can be rooted by flashing supersu via OTG USB. Then the external are others who say it's not possible.
Does anyone know of circumstances where they or someone they've read about has successfully flashed supersu in this manner (OTG USB)?
I highly recommend using magisk as it has an easy universal installer and comes w much more features than SuperSU along with a module repo to add functionality to your device
SuperSU did a great job, but now it's kinda dead. Magisk has a lot more support and updates, also is more easy to manage/update. I really recommend Magisk.
I am able to easily get majisk to install but it won't work with a majority of the app I frequently used such as wifi-tetherAP, ti backup, and few others. The apps will install and root permissions are granted but apps don't work as they should.
Why do they not play nice w majisk?

You cannot root 8.1 with supersu. You have to use magisk. And Magisk works great.
Unfortunately chainfire has retired from the scene, at least for now, and there are obviously tensions with the new Chinese owners of supersu. Supersu is not being updated and the new owners are nowhere near as responsive to users as chainfire was. He's a big loss. And magisk has its own advantages. It's systemless, works reliable and great with 8.1 and is frequently updated. I would switch to magisk. Its the future when rooting your phone.

Thanks for the in depth explanation regarding chain fire, supersu, and the Chinese. Such a shame they got the privilege to assume such a legendary tool for Android and they don't have the decency to support it as it should be. Alas, all great things must come to an end. Looks like it's time to7 move along and embrace the future, as you said, and get on board w majisk.
My only issue w majisk is that several of my favorite apps, the most needed one being AP-tether w root, does not work properly w majisk. It will start but other devices can not "see" the network. I've made sure that it's not hidden.
At a loss to understand why majisk can't get this app to work like supersu did... Anyone have any thoughts?

Have you tried a clean install? Start all over with latest Feb factory image, full wipe, Inc data and then flashing twrp, magisk etc? Can't think of anything else. Magisk doesn't pass safety net so Google pay doesn't work, but give it time. Magisk is your only root option anyway on 8.1 whether you like it or not.
Hey everyone -
I have a Fire HD 10 (2017 model) that is successfully rooted with SuperSU. I am wondering if anyone has figured out how to gain root access with Magisk? All the tutorials I have found regarding the switch from SuperSU to Magisk involve flashing some zips in TWRP, which we can't do. Has anyone figured it out?
Ultimately, I'm trying to get DirecTV Now to work, but it doesn't play nicely with rooted devices. The Hide My Root app used to work, but it has stopped. If we can't get Magisk to work, I'd at least be happy if someone has advice on getting DirecTV Now working again!
I tried flashing Magisk 16.0 with 15.3 installer today and got stuck in bootloop. It flashed but would just boot to amazon logo over and over. Have a Ti Backup but it sucks. I'm sure there's a way through adb. I'm still learning. I wanna know the best way to flash any zip in general cause without FF TWRP or some other custom recovery im lost. I'm assuming you'd have to uninstall SuperSu anyhow. My 2 cents. Rebuilding new ROM now, I love spending hours doing the same thing ?. In hindsight I get better each time and find new hacks tricks etc.
You might be able to use tasker with a variation of the code in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/microsoft-intune-company-portal-t3611588/page12

Sorry for any revival, but is that really possible? I don't really think so, because Magisk, is by definition Systemless, meaning that it doesn't affect the system in any way, but modifies the boot.img. And modifying the boot.img even a tiny bit results in a bootloop, because it fails signature verification. I would be glad to hear any ideas because when we manage to get our Amazon tablet rooted, I would prefer Magisk over anything as I always did, because it is open source and systemless.
Today I successfully rooted my HD8 2016 with SuperSu permanently. Install Magisk Manager but hesitate to install Magisk as afraid of boot loop. Is there any solution to "flash" audio mods zip files without Magisk or TWRP?

So far no. But don't worry. The HD 10 can be unlocked, it's just a matter of its done. Unfortunately, we don't have it easy. The HD 10 is built sorta convoluted. It's 64 but in some cases, 32 in the rest. Something's can't pick up on it. I have a thing or two I am working on. Unfortunately I am dead in the water PC wise until after 10 am. I need a new mouse. And I don't have a spare.
If anyone wants to help... mediatek uses their own fastboot executable, mtboot.exe. I still need to gather all the files to build it and or the binary (they aren't in the right places at all). But it would be nice if the mtboot.exe could be located somewhere on the web.
Also in the Amazon source code for the kernel, they left a potential honey pot. Datool, also known as fbtool. They left the module in their source, and I can't figure out why. In the source it lists some usb props, vendor and product IDs and lists three boot modes: unknown, brom, and preloader. It's also tied into sp flash tool somehow. When you compile the datool at the mediatek source, it will put the tablet into preloader mode. So prehaps it can also put it in brom. But if we can get datool to do a proper dump, we might be able to get SP flash tool working.
That's been my findings the past few days.
Now when I get a mouse, hopefully I will have the first test rom built today.

The only thing we have available at the moment for flashing is flash fire, on the HD 10. I have magisk on a few devices. It's pretty cool once you get the hang of it. It's different and took me a while to get to the point of liking it. I think it will be amazing on the HD 10 because the hardware is great. I haven't tried it on my fire 7 yet. I don't have a rooted HD 8.

No, it's not. Same way many (arguably most) 64-bit devices behave in a 32/64 hybrid world. Someday 'everything' Android will be 64-bit or greater with 32-bit being religated to history - much 8/16-bit is today. Not there yet, especially on economy devices using older hardware. Amazon is not doing anything weird.

The SuperSu do the root management. Magisk manager is great on my phone, but it creates disaster on my HD 8 when testing the Magisk installing from the Manager. It made my HD8 boot loop at Amazon logo, no way to boot. I have to sideload the stock ROM then rooting again.
