as the title says, does anyone know of a noob friendly guide to doing a full root on the S7 G930F version? managed to get twrp installed (whether its done properly or not is another question) but i cant seem to get magisk installed and working, mainly want to root my phone for the benefits and still play games like pokemon go
since putting twrp on my phone i keep getting device security alerts saying "Unauthorized actions have been detected. Restart your phone to undo these actions."
EDIT: i put my phone back to stock with stock recovery using smart switch and following a guide on here, if no one recommends a guide soon then ill have to wing it and follow some random guide on youtube or where ever.

hi
Did you followed all steps in TWRP installation?
That is a knox related error , try to disable the:
SecurityLogAgent service
the main reason to root my S7 is to spoof on pokemon go and for the life of me, i cant figure out how to, got the root done with twrp with magisk installed, tried different apps to move the gps joystick app to system app but they didnt work and the few that DID manage to work never gave me the option to choose system mode in the app for it to work so unless someone here has a guide on how to get it to work, with a S7 fully update(even if i do have to downgrade) i will be extremely thankful

I am working in China, I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy A8. How can I root it?
I have tried Kingoroot without success. I tried a few other one-click root PC apps, they all can't do it.
Let me just say I'm what you guys might call a noob, I don't really understand this stuff yet.
I mainly want to root the phone so I can install Google Play, Android phones in China are not set up for it unless you root the phone and configure it yourself.
I'm dead keen to do this, as it annoys me greatly that I bought a phone and am seemingly denied the regular usage of that phone.
So in my research I also heard about a thing called Odin which you can use to install a new rom on a Samsung phone. And I came across a Chinese website which gave info on a rom you can install on an A8 which after installation means the phone is rooted. I got Odin and the rom now but I'm clueless what to do next really.
I'm thinking the phone has to be rooted to use Odin on it anyway, am I right? And if I do install the rom, it will wipe the phone right? Lose all the data and apps I've installed on it, right? I don't want that to happen, is there a mway to secure the data, put it all back just the way it was beforer the 'rooted rom' is installed?
Like I said I'm clueless really, but I'm trying to proceed cautiously, I'd be grateful for any advice.
I think that I'm going to have the same problem next week, when I get my new Samsung Galaxy A8
Have you tried methods from this page?

I found this from another thread (posted by psafx):
Hello,

On A8, it's Android 5.1.1 with kernel 3.10.9, KNOX 2.4
Thank you very much.

In that link they say, that Frama Root App (Galaxy A8 is not on the supported devices list) worked for A800YZ in their case, but some users have had problems. Can I safely try it, without worrying that it could damage my phone? (Losing knox 0x0 is OK!)
Easy Root
so you can Easy Root almost any phone (maybe) with no risks , no data loss and absolutely no brick , follow the steps.
1_Make sure that your phone is plugged in and it have "USB Debugging" enabled ( you know how right ?)
2_Download Mobogenie for PC here >upload<<<<<.mobogenie.com<<<<</mu/release/Mobogenie_Setup_3.3.7_10002<<<<<.exe
"REMOVE THE <<<<<"
3_after the setup is done open it and click on "Please connect to your device"
4_after the device is connected go to "Toolkit" tab in the middle left and choose "One-click Root"
make sure you have internet access !
then you'll notice a small wide white status bar , that means you're starting the Root operation
5_after that a window will open with your phone model shown on it asking you rooting or no
6_click in Root and wait until it's done , then Congratulations on your safely Rooting
I hope i helped you
No you haven't helped at all to be honest, your post seems like spam.
None of these automatic one-click root programs can currently root the Samsung A8, if you had read above you would see I've already tried most of them, the best of them actually, KIngoroot, Framaroot, KIngroot, all ineffective. So you honestly think your little app can do it?
Is there anyone out there with real help to offer?

I am in a similar situation to you. I used Odin and the SpaceX A800F firmware however all goes fine until the writing of the new firmware begins. The log prints out the write has failed and then I am presented with a mandarin screen saying the device is locked out and I need to visit samsung.com/cn. I can reset the device and use as normal.
My quest to crack this continue and will let you know if I succeeded. 加油!
Having the same Issue
My phone died on me and I had to run out to get a new one. I forgot China has restrictive programs and custom OS to block anything they don't want.
I am trying to root the phone and hitting walls. I might to take to a shop and do it.
can i flash polish language to A8 ?
Disable android device manager in device administrator tab and go to download mode then flash spacex kernel. (Disabling will remove frp lock) I tried it's worked on my a800f

bro i have root file for Samsung A8 A800YZ and i have rooted my phone. if some one need the file, i need some donation before i can send the file. its easy to use, just flash it using odin. thanks.
So I finally managed to root A800F 6.0.1 thanks to @rs1981
Link for TWRP: http://www.4shared.com/get/oUigxM-6ba/TWRP_302-0.html
Downloaded supersu from:
1. Make sure usb debugging is on and oem unlock is on
2. copy supersu file into phone
3. Turn off phone and go into download mode (vol down+home+power)
4. Connect to pc and flash TWRP file via odine (make sure you untick autoreboot)
5. When flash passes unplug phone and hold (vol down+home+power) immediately once the screen turns black switch to (vol up+home+power) even if you see the red error keep holding and TWRP will open
6. Flash the Supersu file that you copied from TWRP and wipe delvik cache then reboot to system
Supersu should be installed and you should have root.
Thanks again @rs1981

So, I finally got my phone (SM-J320FN) rooted, thanks to info and downloads on this forum.
But now I have some questions, to which I haven't found the answers to anywhere else on the web.
1. To root, I followed instructions that told me to switch-on OEM unlock and USB debugging. However, there was no mention about turning them off again after root. Should they be on, or off?
2. Part of my rooting process involved installing/flashing TWRP. I did read that TWRP can be removed after root. What are the advantages/disadvantages of leaving or removing?
3. Now my phone is rooted, what is the best app/way to prevent it becoming unrooted by updates?
That's all for now, thanks.

It's better to let them on.
You can remove the TWRP recovery by flashing stock recovery. But TWRP can backup your whole android partitions (nandroid backup) that can restore your android if anything goes wrong.
TWRP can flash custom roms, mods, mount partitions, and many more. So, it's better to you have TWRP(custom recovery) installed.
If you are using SuperSU superuser app then in option you found OTA survival that prevent root from OTA updates.
I think you can't get OTA updates because you are rooted. If you get OTA updates and applied on rooted android then it chances of brick your android.
Hi every one. First sorry for bad grammar I am not so good at english. Now to the problem at hand.
Jester day I bought a smj320fn and realise it is not what I paid for, so I tried to root witk KingoRoot and fail. Then I realised there is a "bootlock" witch prevents root (I think it does that).
So I tried ODIN and installed a custom FMW and it worked, allso I instaled a custom twrp and boot win.rar file. and there is the problem.
Every time I hold the power buton the samsung logo apears for 5 seconds and then goes black. It wont take any commands. I tride the recover meny to open, no it wont, but I can restars it to boot again and fails every time.
I tried to do it from a youtube tutorial and maby I know what I did wrong. I Instaled a Sm-j320h boot on my smj320fn so I think thats the problem. Any whay how do I fix this. All and any solution are good.
EDIT
TL;DR: in this post lower on the thread I shared some of the things I learned in the process.

Hi everyone,
My OP7 (non pro) is on the way. Really excited about it!
I'm trying to line up all the information and downloads in advance in order to root the device calmly when it arrives.
One thing I remember when I tried to root my last phone (Huawei P10) is that I rushed too much and ended up losing a lot of time. Also there were some "gotchas" that made it kind of hard with the particular version I had bought. In the end, after bricking and unbricking a couple of times, I gave up.
So, my question: with the OP7, are there any "Gotchas" I should be aware of, little subtleties that it would be better to know before starting?
If I follow the steps under Steps for unlocked bootloader with TWRP AND Root(Magisk) on this thread, should it just work?
(Don't have it in hand yet so don't have any version numbers, but in case that helps answer the question, here is the Amazon listing where I bought the phone.)
So far this is the list of files I have downloaded:
MagiskManager-v7.3.2.apk
twrp-3.3.1-52-guacamole-unified.img
Magisk-uninstaller-20190604.zip
Magisk-v19.3.zip
platform-tools_r29.0.2-windows.zip
twrp-3.3.1-52-guacamole-unified-installer.zip
OnePlus7Oxygen_14.E.14_OTA_014_all_1907280716_7e28877dd39949e3.zip
Should I download something else (for instance a system upgrade)?
Thank you in advance for any tips!
So don't do an over the air update afterwards even if the option is there. It put my phone in bootloop. Had to reinstall twrp afterwards.

Not sure what you are talking about. I did it 3 times and it worked perfectly.
1. Install OTA via Updater
2. install TWRP trough magisk
3. Install magisk to inactive slot
4. reboot

So far it sounds good. But I have 2 tips.
1. Never lock Bootloader if phone isn't stock! You will 100% brick it.
2. If you flash twrp with twrp installer.zip you also need to flash magisk. It won't work that way if you don't flash magisk.
does rooting require unlocking bootloader? i dont want to unlock my phone's bootloader, but i want to try to root it.

Root without unlock is impossible.
Hi everyone, thank you very much for your replies.
My plan is to root via TWRP + Magisk.
From the discussion, I am understanding that it is easier to update OxygenOS before rooting?
In other words, can I install 9.5.8 from August 8 then root?
I see that after root, there is also a guide (for the OP7 Pro, but guessing the process is same for OP7) to perform an OTA update via TWRP.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

That's the command to see phone is locked or not. I would check that first.
When I sold my OP7 I used MSMTOOL to be 100% sure phone is stock!
The root process was successful! Installed Magisk Manager. So far, so good.
One newbie question: with this kind of root (TWRP + Magisk), do I always have to use "Magisk Modules / Downloads" to install all Apps that have rooted features? I ask this because I read that Magisk is important to avoid tripping Google's "SafetyNet".
Or can I use any apps that used rooted features, such as Greenify, Titanium Backup, NotificationsOff, AdAway, etc?

You can use any apps without the need being a magisk module.
They'll absolutely work.
Now that my setup is basically done, thought I'd come back and share the "gotchas" that I found during the process:
- after rooting, DO frequent backups with TWRP (like every hour of setup at the most) so you don't lose too much
- DO NOT install Pixel Netcut, that's what caused the one bootloop I got on the first install
- If installing Xposed inside Magisk watch out which one, I got a boot loop with one of the versions, from what I read edXposed is the one that works
- DO ask here if you're not sure… The community is super knowledgeable and friendly!
After leaving Samsung, I did not root my phone as never felt the need for it, as I used root for battery mods and roms.
So can anyone tell me that what interesting mods I can do after rooting my phone?
You can install custom ROMs which have extended features for your phone like changing what buttons do, having an always on display show different things, have shortcuts mapped etc. Custom kernels can manage your phone better whether you like more battery or more performance. Then you have magisk modules come in that can add further functionality and then Edxposed, F-droid the list goes on and on.
You can get rid of ads in your apps.
You can have modded youtube without any ads and other stuff.
Tons of stuff
i root because a few mods:
Viper4android
Call Recorder - not available in my country.
EdXposed with gravitybox - for little customizing
Youtube Vanced
i also root because i had oneplus 5 before which was not rooted and one day i messed up and couldnt get it to work again. i really tried everything - if i was rooted i probably could have fixed my op5.
How do you install new updates then?
Once the updates are out you can install them directly with your phone as you have been doing with any other phone.
The only thing is that after every update you have to root again your phone as the update 'delete' the root.
Nothing major, don't worry. Trust me, us, once you root you won't be able to have your phone unrooted anymore ?
If you are in doubt I suggest you to root it once and then, after a new update you can decide if root it again or not ?
If ur not willing to walk the mile of getting knowledge, dont root
You can use it to teleport to another dimension.
Jk jokes aside you have full control of your system and can do all kinds of modification which how you modify will make it awesome or perform worse.
@bibop80 @chintu1234 @whizeguy
I have rooted my phones for years when I used Samsung devices.
Samsung had issues with battery and performance so that time I had rooted my device.
But since I am using op6 I am so satisfied with the performance and battery, that's why I never rooted my device.
Now I am bored and want to try few mods, so I will root my phone.
I have never used magisk root method, and as I said it's been almost 2 years I rooted device, so I'll be happy if someone can guide me in detail and best root method, I am currently on latest fw android 10.
Thanks in advance!
I do agree with you about Samsung, that is why I passed to oneplus few years ago, the only thing I do miss is the camera quality.
A part of that, you'll be happy to have your phone rooted (Magisk is amazing!)
I suggest you the section of this forum GUIDES, NEWS AND DISCUSSION; once there you'll find the guide titled "OnePlus 6: Unlock Bootloader | Flash TWRP | Root | Nandroid & EFS Backup !!"
It looks more difficult than with Samsung but it isn't at all!
Good luck man and welcome to the Dark side

Thanks for the info, I checked the forum.
Kindly help me to understand few things -
Do I need to install Twrp tp install Magisk?
Will I lose any apps like snapchat?
You can root your phone also without installing the twrp (if you are not intended to deep mod your phone). I'd suggest anyway to install the twrp.
Yes, magisk is needed it can be compared as the supersu but with extended feautures.
If I don't mistake (I did unlock my bootloader on my 1st day I owned the oneplus) all data will be wiped and yes... You might loose your data.
If you can make a backup of your photos, videos and any extra file on a PC and after the unlock and root procedure you can restore them.
All other app can just be downloaded again.... ???
for people mentioning about adfree & background youtube, this can be done in a virgin phone also. just install the vanced apk.

All other app can just be downloaded again.... ???

I guess I'll be doing this on next weekend. I'll post query if I have any doubts. Thanks!
I find that making phone calls with this device seem to be the thing that most people do

You can root your phone also without installing the twrp (if you are not intended to deep mod your phone). I'd suggest anyway to install the twrp.
Yes, magisk is needed it can be compared as the supersu but with extended feautures.

Follow this guide
h***s://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-twrp/
Double check all the adb instructions before confirming them and check that you have all the right files necessary for the operation. (start your pc terminal as administrator)

Thanks. successfully rooted my phone.
Hi.
1. Will ROOTing allow me to deGoogle my phone like LineageOS does?
2. Do I need to unlock my bootloader in order to get root?
3. Once I get root, is it reversible? Will it ever be?
4. Once you unlock your bootloader, is it reversible? Will it ever be? (Galaxy S10 let me relock it by flashing official ROM)
5. Is anyone working on a custom ROM for Xperia 5? I just got the phone and it's worse than galaxy s10 in terms of notifications that haunt me and cant be deleted.
Please help, I would really appreciate it. It caused me a great headache just to unlock the bootloader on my S10, I gave up before I managed to flash LineageOS on it.
Thank you very much
1: possibly. Root uninstalling apps throws my phone into a boot loop
2: of course you need to unlock to root
3: magisk is easily uninstalled. Just flash stock boot image using new flasher
4: not sure about the bootloader relock
5: I wish. I would love lineage. I can delete mine. Must have something turned on. My problem with this phone is it's too thin for my huge gorilla paws.

Quite informative, thanks a lot.
When you said root uninstalling apps throws your phone into a boot loop. Are you referring to Xperia 5 or another phone?
Copy/Paste "Uninstall System Apps on Android with Debloater Magisk Module" . You will find Droid Views which explains how You can do that. I would also mind making a Automated Magisk Module for that purpose even If i love Google. Shouldn't be that hard. Requirement should be to not Login on the Initial Setup Wizard on the First Device bootup since it could force issue based on the Systemless Logics of Magisk (Files are still present but hidden for Android)
