Phone backup confusion. HELP. - General Questions and Answers

I want to switch to another rom.
My question is, can I transfer Everything ar it is on this current software that I'm using (including photos, icon arrangements, logins and everything there is) and having them exactly the same on the future rom?
Logins are the most important to me, so if there is a way to make that automatic it would be of great help.
I don't really want to log in into everything and do everything again.
I want to have the same apps, same layout,
Everything in the background like the wallpaper, sounds, notifications and system settings can be reset and, I don't care about them.
I am currently using MIUI and it's pretty annoying. because apps keep resetting whenever I leave them and it's up to no good for me + I can't seem to figure it out how to deactivate that sshhh.
If anybody can help me. Please leave a message, it would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

What is the purpose of switching ROMs only to have EVERYTHING exactly as it already is in the new ROM?
You can backup your user data and transfer it to the new ROM but you will not be able to backup any kind of system data and transfer it to the new ROM, that will certainly cause issues in your new ROM because the new ROM can not use system data from the previous ROM.
If the things you are asking about are stored in user data, you should be able to do it the way you want but if any of the things you ask about are stored in system/system data, you will not be able to do this the way you want.

Ok, Droiddriven. I've just said why.
And just to repeat, the MIUI os isn't good for me.
I would not change the rom if I could fix the stupid app refresh whenever I leave the particular app.

consider this bug is caused by wrong app permissions, or even in settings in app itself (cookies disabled?)

Huh?

apps do not resetting on leave by default, and sure it's not the ROM that causes this. it's more likely usage issue

How can I be sure? It's the stock rom, I didn't change anything.

your information is too vague, so only broad answer. check app permissions, settings etc

Any way to save everything I have on my phone to the cloud and then auto-setup my future device?

[Q] Titanium Backup Restore Issue

(First off, this is my first post so my apologies if I've done anything improper here)
Ok, so there are a lot of posts about Titanium Backup restore issues but I haven't quite been able to fix my problem. I'm not trying batch restores or anything complicated like that, and the advice I've seen in the past and on the Titanium Backup FAQs doesn't work. Here's my problem:
Yesterday I backed up then uninstalled "Facebook for HTC Sense 1.0" but then realized that my phone (HTC Incredible) uses that to link my contacts with their Facebook profiles (for pictures, birthday notifications, etc.). So today I went to restore it and Titanium Backup just hangs (there is a spinning wheel on the left and it says "Restoring App: 'Facebook for HTC Sense 1.0'") It does this whether I try restoring just the app or app+data.
I have root and updated busybox from the "Problems" button in the app. Many people on here have said to go to "Troubleshooting settings" and change the "App processing mode" but when I go there that option is greyed out. I'm sure this would work (it has for others it seems), but I don;t know what to do since it is greyed out.
I thought about reinstalling Titanium Backup, but I don't want to lose my data to restore from. I don't know how that works.
Anyone know what to do?
UPDATE: Well I don't think reinstalling would help, since an update just came through the market. I figure an update would've fixed anything that a reinstall would have. Also, to add a little more information on the problem, I was able to restore "Adobe Reader 9.0.1" but not able to restore "Footprints 1.10" (another HTC built-in app)
I have the same problem on my HTC Desire.
After installing the latest CyanogenMod, I wanted to return a couple of the HTC-supplied apps. Titanium Backup gets superuser permissions and seems happy, but then freezes at 0% restore. The application processing option in preferences is always greyed out.
Hi guys, one thing that I learned while migrating to Cyanogenmod is that restoring HTC apps will really hurt stability and possibly lead to bootlooping, as there is no HTC sense framework for their apps to work correctly. AFAIK, there is no way around that. I learned the hard way that restoring all apps and data just will not work between AOSP roms and Sense roms. I'm sorry I can't offer more help on it, but you'll need to pick and choose your apps and data and make sure you don't bring Sense/HTC stuff into Cyanogenmod. I know, it's frustrating! Good luck guys!

We'll my problem is slightly different because I'm still using sense. I didn't load any new roms. I removed it and then tried to restore the next day without making any other changes. So why won't my apps restore?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
what did you remove? was it a system app or something you installed from the market? system apps, when "removed" even when backed up, don't reinstall from my experience. I never had any problem reinstalling any user apps that were properly backed up though.
I'm wondering if this is something to do with HTC's "S on" extra security.
Need to read up on this — anyone have a good resource about it? It seems a bit more obscure than just rooting, with some unreliable-looking websites about it. And I'm coming at this as a total n00b
But the system folder does indeed seem to have some kind of extra write-protection going on, even when accessing it as root.
I have a G2X and I have also learned the hard way that Titanium will not restore system apps. So the problem your having has nothing to do with Sence. If you search the for forums hard enough there is info on the topic
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
So... If I do a factory reset on my phone then, will all be fixed? Or does uninstalling it remove it from wherever the factory reset would pull from?
I'll probably need to root it again after, but I just want that "Facebook for HTC Sense" app back so my contacts link with their facebook profiles for continually updating phone numbers, profile pictures, etc.

Problem Solved
I flashed Liberation Enhanced v1.00 yesterday and everything is fixed. Liberation does all that I wanted to do in the first place: have Sense without the bloatware. It was my first time flashing a new ROM and I'm happy to say it went very well
(Now once I get enough posts in, I can add it to my signature like everyone on here seems to like to do)
guess you fixed the issue, but dealing with Titanium Backup, i sometimes have it hanging when i freeze/unfreeze or sometimes it hangs/freezes when backing up/restoring. in the settings there's like some different restoration methods it lets you choose (Direct, Indirect, and something else), but switching it to Indirect Method fixed the issue for me, so just incase someone else runs into a similar problem. im on a SGS4G.

I think what you're talking about may be part of the "App processing mode" option that I said was greyed out for some reason on my phone.

[Q] Bean Stalk bug

I installed bean stalk 2 days ago and really like it except for my swift key 3 keyboard loses its ability to do predictive text. I have to force close it and reopen it to get it to work again. It seems the problem occurs when i uses a text box that doesn't allow predictive text, then it losses prediction util i close and restart it. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing it. Is there anything that could be done or an i missing something?
Oh yes it also has really poor battery life, is this normal? too

The poor battery life is normal cause i have experience with that too.. You have to be patient and let the ROM settle in for a few days.. But on your swift key i suggest you use rapid typing style and change your "spacebar will..." to complete the current word. If you use those options it should work fine for you. But good luck :fingers-crossed: (Hit that thanks button bellow please lol)

I don't think deleting them will cause any harm. Maybe you could move them to a different folder instead of deleting them, then see what happens and go from there. But I'm pretty confident that you'll be fine deleting them.

I've done it in the past, yes. You can add your own ringtones to it and they'll show up, so why wouldn't they disappear when you delete them?
...
Ok so I did it again right now, just for you, and yes they can be deleted. So it is clear you're not mounting /system as rw.

Where are you doing this from (es file explorer, etc)?
Wakelocks and other small issues
Hey guys, just to input to what has been asked here, I had problems mounting earlier as well, but with root explorer (Rom toolbox) and the file manager that comes with the ROM, but it worked with ES file explorer when I deleted system files. As for swiftkey, I don't have it so can't input for that. Anyway here's my problem (sorry for hijacking the thread, but just posting here as well since there was a reply much more recently than Beanstalk Q&A thread):
I'm new to beanstalk ROM and recently installed the kit kat build posted on new year's eve coming from carbon 4.3. I have performed all necessary wipes (data, cache, dalvik, system) and installed Gapps posted by vaughn in the dev thread. I am just wondering if anyone has experienced wakelocks caused by android system, exchange services and google services? So far, when I searched xda and googled the problems, I only found solutions for google services and exchange services which were to turn off sync (exchange services) and location (G-services), but for some reason my system is still experiencing a wakelock from g-services and I'm not sure how to get rid of it...by the way, I clean flashed the ROM a second time (but wiped my internal sd also this time) to see if that would help but so far it hasn't. I've been running the ROM for 3-4 days now if that's important.
My other questions are does anyone have misaligned icons in active display and also slightly misaligned number in the battery ring icon (i think this was reported in dev thread) and will installing SuperSu fix the problem with V4A asking for superuser rights, but then when I try to install driver, it asks me to check if I'm rooted or have su binaries? Thanks in advance for any help!
I have uninstalled updates for google play services and it updated back and now it seems to have gone down in my battery stats. Now only thing left is android system.

[Q] Setting up the phone after clean install - is there a better way?

Hi everyone,
Since probably all of you here in XDA flash new ROM's on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, do you always have to go through all the phone setup process?
I find this to be quite an issue becasue I have to setup all the home screen icons and folders, notifications per Gmail account, language and keyboard settings, per app settings.. you name it.
It takes about 3 hours for me to set everything up including installing all the applications. In addition, I loose all SMS.
I use TitaniumBackup but I found that it cannot restore everything and in many cases it will cause more harm than good so I avoid it unless I only need individual apps.
As for system settings and what not, is there a better solution for this setup process so it will be easier to update ROM versions?
I'm currently on 5.0.2 and want to update to 5.1.1

Well you definitely need to clean flash when going from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1, no question about that. As far as the launcher goes, I use Nova Prime so I back that up with Titanium and then just restore it after flashing. You should be able to do that with any launcher. And when it comes to the system data (settings, etc) you do need to set that up from scratch. I mean you could try backing up your system data in order to restore it after the flash but it's a huge no-no and will most likely just cause issues. Sorry to say it but this manual setup stuff is part and parcel of flashing ROMs. I know my setup quite well so it takes me less than 15 mins to setup my phone after a clean flash.

I use Google Now luncher and there are no backup settings for it. I don't believe TiB can help either, unless someone knows what is the value that needs to be backed up.
As for other settings, for example I always change the keyboard sounds and boot animation. Then I have o setup all the accounts which is iffy... I hope someone could come up with an application that does it.

All you need to do is use TiBu to backup the Google Now Launcher app, then you restore the app + data after the flash, simple as that.
There is an application that does that: TiBu. But it isn't advisable to backup/restore system data. Any other app that would be capable of doing it would have the same risk involved. It isn't a problem with the app, it's a problem with the concept.

[MOD][GUIDE]How To Enable The Hidden Alternate SystemUI In Note5

Not sure how many of you are aware, but there is a completely different user interface built into the Note5 that's hidden. I thought maybe some of you might like to check it out just for fun. It allows you to place widgets and apps on the lockscreen and has a bunch of cool lockscreen effects. Also, the "notifications panel" and the "recents" page are totally different, as well as many other interesting features. I added some screenshots for you guys to check out in this post.
Here are the steps to activating it:
1) First, anytime you're playing around with the SystemUI, even if it's a built in feature, it's a good idea to do a full system backup in TWRP. Not necessary, but recommended.
2) Next, you will need to have the Galaxy Apps store installed on your device. If you happened to have deleted it like I did, then I've attached the APK to this post for anyone that needs to reinstall it.
3) Open the Galaxy Apps store and update it if/when it prompts you.
4) Once the store has loaded, search for the words "Good Lock". Click on the app and click "Update", then "Install" and reboot the device when it prompts you.
(This is the hidden SystemUI that you already have on your device, but it needs the current update to work.)
5) Once rebooted into the new SystemUI, it will begin walking you through all of your new customization options. You can change any of these anytime you want by opening the "Good Lock" app in your applications list.
NOTE: If you decide that you want to deactivate the alternate SystemUI at any point, then you can just open up the "Good Lock" app and click on "Uninstall" too. You can also uninstall the Galaxy Apps store at any time and features like the new "Recents" page, if you don't like it, can be toggled off in the app as well.
Anyhow, I hope you guys have some fun with this. I'm trying it out for awhile just for kicks. Be sure to let everyone know what you thought of the new SystemUI in the comments too!
Just installed this running N5 Express ROM with no issues yet. Really like being able to have Tasker widget shortcuts on the lockscreen.

That's a really good idea. Been trying to think of a more useful widget to use on the lock screen. So far I've only added a fancy clock/weather widget. [emoji14] Maybe I'll give it a try.
Cool cant wait to try it out!

TWRP is mentioned for backing up your current configuration of TouchWiz(and your device in general) if you can before using Good Lock in case anything goes wrong. Obviously backing up your device is never required, but definitely always recommended when altering the system in any way, regardless of where it comes from. It's important to understand that Good Lock isn't just some Samsung app in the app store or just another launcher that changes the home screen, apps page, etc. It tweaks the system ui itself, including the look and function of the notifications panel, lock screen capabilities and more. It's true that you can just revert back to TW whenever you want pretty easily from within Good Lock, but the process isn't perfect. In fact, I myself applied it and reverted back only 2 times and the second time something went terribly wrong during the reversion and the system halted and it would no longer boot after that, so I had to restore a previous backup which I was glad to have had. All the data that I hadn't recently backed up though was of course lost, so yes...a TWRP backup is recommended when using Good Lock.
Also worth mentioning is the fact that if you're not running a compatible version of the stock firmware or at least a compatible TouchWiz rom, it will try to prevent you from installing it by not showing it in an app store search or by blocking access to the app's page(if you're following a link) in the Galaxy Apps store. For instance, it was there when I was on stock Marshmallow, but does not allow me to access it on stock Nougat. Instead I get error messages saying the app is not supported on my device when trying to load the Good Lock page.
Here is the link btw in case anyone can't find Good Lock in a search and wants to check if it can be used on their device. If it shows it, then it's compatible, if it doesn't then it's likely not. Just open the link in a mobile browser and click "OK" if prompted.

WTF dude? Seriously. Stop being an ass and actually read what I wrote. It's the least you can do after I typed all that out. You're not helping anyone by TROLLING this thread and repeatedly mentioning something so extremely redundant. If you don't want to backup then don't backup. I clearly said that it was obviously not required to do a backup and that I was only recommending to do it because I lost data and couldn't boot after selecting the option to revert back one time. Stop wasting people's time with your pointless comments. NOWHERE does it say in my post that making a backup is Required, so get over yourself. Either stop being a destructive ass or go and troll someone else! Your negative comments are not welcome here.

[APP IDEA] Nandroid Backup Tool

Hey guys,
First of all i'm no developer..( yet ), but as an android user that needs root, I rely on nandroid backups as a last resort of restoration when a phone bricks, and i imagine that a lot of other users do the same, but there was never this AIO app that can get the job done, which is why i think our community needs to pitch in to make one for all of us.
I know there is apps out there that does what i'm seeking here but not quite there yet, most of these apps either does not have full support or simply left with no updates for years even though there was some great potential.
Now my goal here is either to revive an old app and somehow motivate the developer to support it and help it grow, or construct a new one from scratch.
Please let me know if you guys have any ideas or suggestions regarding this topic and if you think it is worth it for you or not.
Thanks
What do you mean? Isn't TWRP not enough for you? Could you explain a little bit more what function would you like to have in this app?

mmm I see... But correct me if I'm wrong, these are just my thoughts and I'm far from understand how Android works: I think that making a backup using TWRP is safer because everything is turned off, whereas backing up with the phone turned on might ends up with corrupt data (for example if you get a call while backing up the telephone app).

To be honest I have no idea... But it would seem like you are correct haha.
Guys, i think you misunderstood me, TWRP is a great tool to backup and i don't think there will be a better alternative, what i'm seeking here is an APP that can take the backups made by TWRP or CWM, and extract/restore what ever the user needs out of them individually.
apps that were aiming to do so but never really reached that goal is Titanium Backup, Nandroid Manager and others like it.
I hope that makes a bit more sense
anyone ?
