Antenna radio signal shows an "X" where my signal strength is shown after system update - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys, I've been nearly driving myself insane trying to find a fix for what seems to be a pretty serious, near-system breaking bug in the most recent Android 11 system update for the Blu View 3 (B140DL)
I had working antenna signal and strength working perfectly fine, after marrying my new SIM card's iccid to my carriers account. After marrying, I was told to reset my network settings, apply system updates (if any) and reboot the device. There was an update, so I proceeded with it, and when my phone was done rebooting, there was an empty antenna signal triangle with an x in it. I've heard about and seen ota updates have bugs in the firmware that cause issues but it's always been with top tier flagship type devices and there's a fix rolled out almost instantly. This being a budget unlocked device, I have had no luck with any kind of information about possible fixes or any being released; hell, I can't seem to find if anybody else has experienced this problem with the specific update on this build or not anywhere on the internet, and this update is from January of this year. I am going to post the build and specific software update that caused the radio firmware to not work, so hopefully that helps. I'm hoping that maybe there's a fix for this that doesn't involve reflashing the official firmware (can't seem to find the stock firmware for this device at all) and I'm humbly asking for any help or advice that anyone is willing to share with me. I'm having to resort to using text now & voice over WiFi with no access to my carriers services. Thank you in advance!
P.S. I also put a screenshot with the current kernel and baseband as well, because I'm not sure if either of those got updated during the last system update.

There is now firmware available. I'd try flashing stock

Dial *#*#info#*#* which will open up a menu to change radio from 3g to LTE only, and others, try them.
Also is your apn set?

[Q] Update – HTC Desire HD Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update

Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.36.405.5. Update: Android 2.3 upgrade. Note:Please back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. I tried but with no luck (
Any ideeas??
so what exactly is your question and what does it have to do with the apps and games thread?
I tried too! But nothing. No updates...
its UK only...
I am in uk and seems like there is no update yet for us...
I have received this upgrade and have had nothing but trouble since installing it. I was wondering if there was a way I can put my phone back to the way it was?
Basically, since the update, the only difference in my phone that I notice is an app called "Dock" which is basically a new screen for when you are driving. I have had nothing but trouble receiving calls or texts and at worst, I have received texts 26 hours after they were sent. My work depends on my company being able to contact me at any given time which, since the update, they have had a great difficulty doing.
Is there any way I can roll back the phone to the previous software as HTC and my network company are shockingly bad at making any attempt to solve the problem?
Thanks

Intermittent Data/Cell -Exclamation Mark in Signal Indicator

This happens on every Lollipop ROM I have flashed, no problems on 4.4 ROMS. I do clean installs, do not restore anything from Tibackup. So basically what happens is I will randomly but very frequently lose all data and cell service. Like once every three minutes frequently. It only lasts about 5 seconds at a time. The signal bar triangle will have an exclamation mark in it (see attached example). I delete and re-enter my APN, turn off wifi AND the Scanning Always Available option. I have read some threads about this exact same thing happening on Nexus 5 after Lollipop update but they are old and it seems to have been fixed with an update. Does anyone have any ideas about what is going on? I'm on TMO in the US and like I said, it ONLY happens on Lollipop ROMs it does not happen of Kitkat.
I read this as sort of an explanation as to why but nothing as to how to fix it. It is driving me insane.
I'm in the same boat, I cant make calls with hangouts or with Dialer or it will disconnect. I haven't seen a solution yet. I've tried every ROM I can, but it keeps crashing. drives me up a wall. I want to logcat it, but having issues while at work.

Only discussion about this I have seen is in the Nexus 5 forums, nothing in OPO
Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated.
Come on guys, am I really the only one with this issue?

You're not alone, I have this as well but I don't get the exclamation mark but instead the triangle appears completely empty, as if I have no signal at all.
anyone know a way to fix this awell? i flashed the new lolipop alpha modem and still same thing if not worse
The only time this has happened to me is when I toggle Wi-Fi. It for this every time, but have no data issues otherwise. Seems to be when switching between ip addresses. Are you possibly between towers or roaming on another network? May be the issue, but I can't say for sure. Running the lollipop rom exodus, no issues at all.
EDIT: also what baseband are you guys on? I thought I saw something similar and someone flashed a test baseband and it fixed whatever issue they were having. Link coming shortly.
EDIT 2: just now noticed the list above mine about the alpha modem and it not working for them. If anyone else needs to try however, link is http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho... work for some and not others.

In OP "I delete and re-enter my APN, turn off wifi AND the Scanning Always Available option."
Same issue here. Running SlimSaber using alpha radio.
Same problem on two OPOs here, both running Temasek CM12
Anyone found a solution yet?
I have the same issue on CM12, BlissPop and Validus ROMS.
Strangely I do NOT have the issue on Euphoria.
Think it happened after I flashed the Alpha L modem.
Tried flashing an older CM11S modem, but no luck...
Hi,
Sorry for the noob answer but anybody tried settings>mobile networks>preferred network type and set it to 3G? I flashed a new rom from stock CM and noticed that I was experiencing signal trouble, I checked my status and the signal detected is LTE so I changed my network to 3G and network signal improved. Downside is that you cant use LTE (but thats ok for me since here in our country, LTE signal is still kind of limited)
Zino same for me. Ever find a fix or a rom that doesn't do this?
OP here, it's strange that all of us have this issue, the same issue that came up on the Nexus 5 thread when L was first released but know one else seems to have any knowledge of it. I am almost certain it doesn't have to do with our carriers but rather something software related.
I'm also suffering from this issue, until now the only way I knew how to fix it was to wipe the cache in recovery which takes ages!
got the same problem :<
I have a similar issue. I use t mobile in the USA and LTE works, H+ works, but 3g shows signal and won't load anything. No idea how to fix it.

[Q] Connectivity issues on Nexus 5

Hi,
I have serious connectivity issues with my Nexus 5.
Most of the time I am only picking up 2G signal, sometimes the connection drops compeltely. However, I had a very unstable 3G/H/LTE connection for a few minutes sometimes in the last days.
This started after changing the battery and upgrading from Cyanogenmod 12 to 12.1. Unfortunately I did both changes at the same time, so I am not sure what caused this problem.
The following things I could rule out/test:
- Another phone (Nexus 4) picks up H+ with my sim
- My phone doesn't pick up 3G/H/LTE with another (working) sim
- I have checked the connections of the both cables running alongside the battery, I also checked the cables itself.
- I fiddled with the apn settings, also I never touched them before and everything worked fine.
- I have updated the radio image.
The one thing I couldn't try is flashing an older cyanogenmod 12, because I have no backup and couldn't find one online.
Does any of you have any ideas what I can do?
I would be really thankful for any kind of help.
Who is your carrier :/
I probably should have added that in the first place.
My carrier is T-Mobile in germany.
I have the same problem. Also i'm tryed flash Android 5.0 and Android M, in stock i have Android 5.1.1. Who khow how to fix this ?
I have no solution yet. The next thing I want to try is to roll back to Cyanogenmod 12, but I guess I am going to build it myself because it seems to have vanished from the internet.
I do occasionally get LTE, but it is very unstable and doesn't work most of the time.

No Wi-Fi on Nexus 5 - on any version of Android

The Wi-Fi on my wife's unrooted Nexus 5 (Sprint version) which was upgraded (via OTA) to Marshmallow last month suddenly stopped working last week. The slider would get hung while moving from Off to On (like it was trying to turn on) and therefore was not detecting any available Wi-Fi signals.
After trying many things, I eventually did the extreme and did a full factory data reset. No dice. Still not detecting anything.
Figuring it might be an OS issue with Marshmallow (given we're seeing a lot of forums indicating Nexus 5 issues based on Wi-Fi with both Marshmallow and Lollipop), we downgraded the OS first to Lollipop and then all the way back to KitKat (4.4). Still not working. At initial phone setup, the phone is not detecting any available WiFi signals and gets hungup trying to find networks for me to choose from - so I end up having to skip this step.
Any other tips out there on what I can try? Is this a sure sign of hardware problems? Don't think my wife's phone is under warranty any longer (have had it slightly over a year, I think).
PS - Now I can no longer even upgrade the phone (OTA, at least) from 4.4.4 because my phone is saying it needs Wi-Fi to download the update - with no option to do it over my data plan.
I'm in the same situation and it appears to be a hardware failure. The wifi chip can't be replaced so a motherboard swap is required.
You can upgrade to the latest stock ROM by flashing the entire ROM from a command prompt in Win7.
Plot thickens
So, I figured out a way to get the OTA's over LTE (by manually changing my phone's date up a week). While going through each OS update from 4.4 KitKat to 6.0 Marshmallow (about 5 or 6 rounds of them) my phone briefly was able to detect WI-FI, I believe during set up at 5.1.1 Lollipop - and I was able to get on my home network.
Probably should have just stopped updating after that, but definitely was not detecting anything after that. I lost it during one of the Lollipop updates - well before getting to 6.0. Not sure if WiFi was actually working well or not.
Maybe the chip is in the process of failing? Not sure but it seems like you are having better luck than me.

I wish. Don't want to go through all those steps again after doing a clean wipe to have a fleeting glimpse of Wi-Fi.

Hi, pagalbengal. I'm having the same problems right now, and I wanted to check with you to see if there have been any developments with your situation over the past month. Still hopeless? Have you contacted Google tech support? Do they still even support this phone? Thanks for any info.
You guys might want to try reflash the modem firmware.
Couldn't get my wi-fi to work so I replaced the motherboard. Every stock and custom ROM I tried could not enable wi-fi.

Baseband / radio - what's the most stable firmware version?

I have been using a Droid Mini for many years now, and am still quite happy with it. One of my few complaints, is that the radio does not play nicely with Canada's Bell/Telus LTE network.
I've used the versions in both 4.2.2 (doesn't hand off to HSPA properly after a call or MMS, repeated service drop-outs) and 4.4.4 (hand-off is fine, but LTE connection is started/lost many times a day regardless of signal strength). While the latter one is an improvement, there are other weird bugs that seem to come with 4.4.4 ("this SIM is from an unknown source" errors which randomly kill your connection, prompting to connect to WiFi when opening apps even if all available relevant settings have been disabled).
I know the radio firmware from the Moto X is compatible, but I have a few questions before I start toying with this as it is my daily driver:
Is it OK to flash the radio partition from a newer major version? (Lollipop radio to Kitkat)
Is MSM8960PRO_BP_23255.140.93.00R the best option available? What is included with the available CyanogenMod releases?
Is the radio partition the only one that must be flashed to support this?
What's the easiest way to backup the partition before I try to update it?
Does anyone know if there is a working repository for the XT1030's stock images?
