General Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5g Ads and Bloatware. - Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G (peux)/POCO X4 Pro 5G (veux)

I bought my device on the 14th and the time that I have had it I haven't seen a single ad on any of the miui apps. I see ads on other apps I use like boost for reddit. But no miui ads. My file manager is clean. I remember seeing ads on it on whyred ages ago.
As for Bloatware I only had Facebook and YouTube music and YouTube itself. Otherwise I don't consider the radio, miui service feedback as bloat.
Anyone else with this device have the same. I see a lot of complaints from x4 pro owners but my experience on miui has been very solid. Only real issue I've seen is the screen flickering at certain brightness levels.

Nvm. I guess it took a while but I see ads now.

Hi, it seems that i didn't receive ads for a while too
can't say when it stopped since I've shifted to an AOSP based rom
but all my time being on Miui I've received no ads on this device (i have received ads on a different device though)
can't say the same for bloatware sadly, Miui IN has way too much bloatware for me to even list down
some of them are
Mi pay, Mi mail, Mi store, Mi coin, Mi Browser and the list just keeps going on

For me I only see adds in a couple of apps if I run them so try not to run them like in cleaner and I think the security app as for bloatware I would say Kaspersky is rubbish as the phone has i think avast as it's security within the phone that I don't think you can take off for me I think maybe what if they leave say 90% of all apps of the device and maybe have a file app with all the crap so you can choose what to install so no Google apps apart from the play store you know the basics that is vital for you to use your phone but still give the phone some nice things a strange one for me is second space some apps for me in there are not on the main account

Received my Global X4 Pro 5G last week and it came with bloat, ads and other junk but the Android 12 update pending. However, after updating to 12 the only things still there are Mi remote, Themes and Mi Video. I'm also using ControlD as my private dns and when I check the logs there are all sorts of blocked polling attempts to Xiaomi servers.

[Bug] Aggressive RAM management on 9.0

I notice many apps close when they shouldn't. I don't play any games at all and the most apps I use at the same time are Instagram, WhatsApp, Now for Reddit, Chrome and Spotify.
Maybe the last 2 apps stay in memory but all the rest don't. Sometimes even Spotify closes.
Anyone else experiencing this? I'm on Android 9.0.

I'm not having any of these problems. I have 15 opened apps right now, and none have been closed.
Stock or custom rom? I feel I'm experiencing this with custom roms on my Pixel, but stock seems to not have this effect (still waiting for my PH-1 to be delivered)
No problems like that here on unrooted stock, official pie.
I see the same with instagram and play music. Since the upgrade the closes in a minute or so and that absolutely sucks.
OP
Chrome Dev does occasionally reload for me, especially with 5+ tabs, but I expect CD to do so more than other apps. In the main everything stays in memory for a good enough time (hours +) with multiple apps.
Same here, usually I have a list of apps open in recents. They seem to be getting closed after not being used for while.
Already switched off Battery Management (thought this might be the cause) but didn't help.
I'm also on official Pie, no root or other tweaks.
EDIT: I probably should mention that I am using the la(te)st Xperia launcher from APKMirror instead of the Essential's default launcher. Not sure if this might be an explanation...

[Nougat] What is "zdemo" app? Could it be malware?

Hi Everyone,
Long time no see, but I'm back with a quick question: I've noticed an unknown (to me) application on my Leagoo T5c running Android 7.0 called "zdemo".
It doesn't appear in my app drawer (I use a launcher called Rootless Pixel that I like a lot, because it's extremely light and easy on the eye), only in the Application list in Parameters, and I've uninstalled it, but I suspect it could have been malware, because all of a sudden, I've started to get unwanted popups in a few application, Blue Mail among them, so I suspect it could come back.
Do any of you know of this app? I Googled it and got nowhere.
It happens to me too. I have another one named media provider or something like that, it has a fake Android logo and it can be desistaled.
Yeah, I managed to uninstall it... Twice, which means it's coming back at more or less regular intervals. I suspect it's a malware, but MalwareBytes didn't find anything wrong on my phone, so I'm a bit stumped.
I suspect those malware were bundled with Rootless Pixel Launcher, because since I've uninstalled it, they're gone and haven't returned...
Zdemo appears in conjunction with System Input Method. I think the former is a trojan and the latter adware. I keep stopping and uninstalling the apps just to have them return. I think the gallery app is the culprit but haven't figured out how to clean it yet because its a system file.
Hi Donna,
Do you own a Leagoo phone too? I've had issues with rotten ROM from that brand before, but I thought that was a thing of the past.
If the Gallery app is indeed the culprit, then there must be a bad picture or video in it that you imported, maybe a cover from a music album you downloaded?
I for one know that all the music on my phone doesn't come from CDs I ripped...
The funny thing is, before I installed those two launchers I mentioned, I had no issues whatsoever. The Rootless Pixel Launcher contacted me via Play Store and defended himself from injecting any bad code into his launcher, and says that CPL Launcher is based on his own Rootless Pixel launcher, so it could be that the repository where the APK is stored has been compromised, and the malware is added to the files before it's made available to the Google Play store, but I can't be sure.
For reasons unknown, my first reply got lost somewhere, and I don't feel like rewriting it word for word. Do you have a Leagoo phone too? If so, which ROM do you have installed on it (mine was released in March 2018)?
I suspect those two malware come bundled with the launchers I mentioned, but the dev for Rootless Pixel launcher assured me his code is clean, and I tend to believe him. I think the repo where his code is stored could have been hacked, but I have no way to prove it, of course.
EDIT: my first reply finally made it to the thread. Sorry for the double post...
UPDATE: I finally did a factory reset, reinstalled all my apps (minus a couple I never used anyway) from the Play Store, put my music back on the device (not my pictures though, because I want to sieve through them first), installed Rootless Pixel Launcher again, and so far, so good, no malware in the applications list.
I'll give it a day or two, just to be on the safe side, then I'll modify my incendiary comment on the Play Store about Rootless Pixel Launcher...
Somebody created this code to bug people, had probably nothing to do uses your ip to track and install his popup window.
If I disconnect my wifi and use my phone without an internet connection zdemo and system input method don't come back. I should try on another wifi or in another country. Wonder if it could be tracked and maybe interesting to see where it leads. Could it be stashed on google play store? It seems curious that there is little info on the web about this problem as if somebody in a key position really f...-up
Yeah, I too find it hard to believe that those two malware aren't better documented on the Web. However, if you scan your device with MalwareBytes and look up the entire name of both, you find ***partial*** references, stating that they aren't "real" malware, just PUPs, which I find intriguing too.
On my phone, I've noted unwanted popups that were hard to close when they were installed, but nothing untoward once I got rid of them, so they're definitely adware, either separately, or working jointly, I don't know.

Ads built into OS. Not as bad as all that?

Hi all.
Thinking of grabbing one of these come payday but heard conflicting info regarding ads built into the OS. Apparently they only appear in the Xiaomi apps or when you install something from the play store. I wanted advice from actual owners, are there many ads? And is there a way to remove them (using AdGuard)?
For the price and specs I'm really tempted but not sure how I feel about being bombarded with ads.

Being a bit curious and having time to explore the devices, leaves you with absolutely no ads on the device.
For instance, you disable all sorts of tick boxes on the crappy MIUI security app, disable suggestions during setup and also while in the package installer, you press on its settings button (top right) and unselected both options there.
I have done this and confirm I have absolutely no ads on system apps on my Poco X3
Havent noticed much ads after turning off suggestions, an ad after downloading an app on playstore appears but nothing like a video ad or an unskippable one. So far no problems on my end as well. Deleted some apps using the debloater and I use mostly non-miui apps.
If you turn "security scan" off in the settings you will not get any adverts while installing apps. On my poco x3 those were the only ads i got while using the phone so everthing is well. The issue is not only the poco x3 tho, it is with more MIUI phones fortunately you can turn it off.
If I do buy this phone I am wait till I can replace the Stock OS as I hate Ads
Ads? Haven't noticed any ads yet.
I did factory reset the phone x4 times (other problem) and I think it got rid of some of the pre-installed games. Maybe it helped with ads to?
Where can I find the setting for off the suggestions?

In the app itself.... Either recommendation or suggestion turn all to off...
Well I caved and got one. Betty happy with it and have tinkered and shut down all the ads I think. Not as intrusive as I feared but annoying. Glad you can remove them. Tempted to remove some of the bloatware but last time I used adb it went horribly wrong

Questions - workarounds when not rooted?

I finally pullled the trigger on this device.
The one thing I am a bit worried and need advice on is using an un-rooted device. I've never used a device as a daily driver without root. Can anyone help with some questions:
is there any way to block ads system wide without root? i've tried googling for this answer but I'm realy not sure.
Does Vanced youtube work?
that is it thus far I'm sure there will be many more after I get the device.
Blokada for ad blocking and yes vanced works great. I haven't rooted my phone in years due to the fact that there is little reason to. Honestly it's more of a hassle to do it for me (updates etc) than it is to not.

I am using disconnect pro from Samsung store.. its not cheap but does block majority of ads system wide. And yes youtube vanced works perfectly well.

awesome. thanks for that info
i think the only other app i needed root for was DarQ that let you make apps dark system wide and then choose certain ones you didn't want to darken

can I ask if it blocks the annoying ads in TuneIn app?
Thank you
For Youtube i suggest Samsung browser with adblock installed - no more ads in youtube and it works basically the same as youtube app. The only problem you may have if you use youtube notifications - they obviously will bring you to youtube app. Otherwise youtube in samsung browser with adblock plugin is perfect.
Karma Firewall is a simple, useful tool.
Less so probably on Q and higher due to their restrictions.
On Pie it has logging capabilities... try it and see what you got. No Ads, freeware, very low battery usage.
A compatible package blocker is highly recommended... to take out the trash.
my first few days with the fold
I'm using Adaway right now to block ads, the non root version, though any non root ad blocker goes through some type of vpn which slows things down a bit. i'd still much prefer to have root
I turned on force dark mode everywhere in dev settings and that helped darken apps good enough.
I am still trying to use Nova as my launcher as I hate the samsung launcher and rarely if ever use multi window but for some reason nova is sucking up a ton of battery
also have Vanced loaded for youtube and it is great, the only downside is there doesn't seem to be a way to use OK GOOGLE to play videos in vanced while driving, etc.
Lose Nova, it uses more resources/battery and is likely slower than the native launcher. After another 3rd party launcher cost me 2 reloads I stopped playing with them.
Can't speak for your variant but on my 10+ One UI is fast and very stable... I use the Samsung customization apps, themes and icon packs.
Got 99% of what I want and that missing 1% isn't worth the battery drain, system instability or loss of some of the functions I get with the Samsung customization.
Had no issues whatsoever with Action Launcher. Not a chance I'd use the stock launcher, no adjustable grid is a deal breaker right out of the gate. Add in all the missing features and it's like going back to an SGS2 or something using the stock launcher, woefully inadequate.
I am using nextdns.io for ad blocking
Works great, no extra load or battery drain.
Also supports newer dns standards via private dns option in android 10

General Xiaomi 12 experience so far

Coming from Pixel Experience ROM on my Mi 9 here is what I don't like about MIUI on the Xiaomi 12:
- you can't pause apps
- you can't open certain links with the respective apps, like selecting links with *reddit.com domains to be opened with joey for reddit
- when using work profile, the app drawer shows the work tab first even if it's disabled instead of showing the personal apps tab first
- quickcharge animation shows fake battery charging when first plugged in just for the purpose of a cool effect, it has a counter that goes from X% to X+2% in 4-5 seconds, when in reality after 4-5 seconds the battery is still at X%
What I miss having from a rooted phone:
- possibility to remove certain pre-installed apps like instagram, I removed most bloatware but instagram doesn't show in Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools 7.0.3
- AdAway root version, non-root version based on vpn is slow and works just sometimes
So far no bugs in MIUI. The phone heats even from normal use, browsing, tiktok, etc. I don't game but it would probably overheat a lot there. Battery life is mediocre at best. Camera is snappy and fine, impressed with the loudspeakers volume.
I am not rooting my phone just yet, I will wait to unlock and root after some custom ROMs start porting for Xiaomi 12, I really hope Pixel Experience will be one of them, was quite pleased with it.
What is your experience with Xiaomi 12 so far?
you can h
