Coming from Pixel Experience ROM on my Mi 9 here is what I don't like about MIUI on the Xiaomi 12:
- you can't pause apps
- you can't open certain links with the respective apps, like selecting links with *reddit.com domains to be opened with joey for reddit
- when using work profile, the app drawer shows the work tab first even if it's disabled instead of showing the personal apps tab first
- quickcharge animation shows fake battery charging when first plugged in just for the purpose of a cool effect, it has a counter that goes from X% to X+2% in 4-5 seconds, when in reality after 4-5 seconds the battery is still at X%
What I miss having from a rooted phone:
- possibility to remove certain pre-installed apps like instagram, I removed most bloatware but instagram doesn't show in Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools 7.0.3
- AdAway root version, non-root version based on vpn is slow and works just sometimes
So far no bugs in MIUI. The phone heats even from normal use, browsing, tiktok, etc. I don't game but it would probably overheat a lot there. Battery life is mediocre at best. Camera is snappy and fine, impressed with the loudspeakers volume.
I am not rooting my phone just yet, I will wait to unlock and root after some custom ROMs start porting for Xiaomi 12, I really hope Pixel Experience will be one of them, was quite pleased with it.
What is your experience with Xiaomi 12 so far?

I use like 150 apps installed in the phone.
Tried pie open beta(and also other custom roms) with kernels and other greenify apps but battery sticks with 5 to 6 screen on time.
I feel grateful if someone can help me getting the backup 7 or 7+.
I hear some guys are getting 8 and plus sot. I don't know how if everyone is using the same phone. I don't use phone for gaming. My usage involves with social media, YouTube, chats and 40 to 60 minutes using maps and gps.
Is it because of number of apps installed?
It's not about apps installed unless they keep the phone awake at all time, wish I don't think they do.
Unfortunately the best thing to do is just stop using social media lol.. Facebook and snapchat atleast.. Those apps are true battery killers.
If you feel like Facebook is really something you NEED in your life then skip the app and use the browser instead.
The other thing is making sure apps that you don't need notifications from is blocked from background usage in Battery, total usage, click the app you know you can block and select background usage, block
Last is managing the brightness, now there are times for full blast on the display and there is times for low light, don't let the screen blast your eyes if it's not needed to.

I agree... Facebook is a Hog. And they push you into using Facebook messenger as well... :-/
I use this... It's a pretty slick front-end for Facebook that uses little of the resources that the app does. It also let's you use messenger without installing it on mobile!

150 apps lol, how can you manage so much, I think just a simple browser can help you get rid of atleast 100 of them. I never understand the need of app which works on a site on a desktop. Just to keep track of your location and what you are searching online, these apps track you and kills your battery. Go smart, use no tracking browser like bromite and live the freedom.
Now for ROM part, I get the best battery with any OOS + elementalX kernel. None of the custom rom are better than OOS and yes don't forget to remove all Google apps and OnePlus apps, they track you.
Also install betterbatterystats to check what is killing your battery, I easily get upto 8 hrs. of sot if no pubg.
Hey guys! Let's share our ROM + kernel + kernel settings setups over here!

Nice! Any screenshots?
All Kernel customisation are just gimmicks. The main culprit for battery drain is Google Play Services and the background running apps that provide quick notifications as soon as you receive a new message/email. This action takes up too much battery. The top list include WhatsApp, Snapchat, Facebook/Messenger, and other social media apps. The definte solution is 1. Magisk Modules- "Universal GMS Dose" , "Enable Dose for GSM Magisk Module" , "Greenify4Magisk". 2. Install Greenify(add all apps for hibernation).
These two steps will ensure excellent standby time and surely a better battery life that you not only need but you deserve.

Cool. I've flashed all the above mentioned modules. Will now add apps to the Greenify Hibernation list.
I'm running stock rooted, and I get 8 hours of screen time on most days. No custom kernel, I do have location off.
Location on, I use blue mail, WhatsApp and Textra and my battery is great. 9-11 hours sot work ex kernel or stock kernel. The custom ex kernel is for adjusting vibration motor intensity, max sound increases and lowering the min frequency of the little cores from 576mhz to 300mhz, this increases battery life a bit. I also use ex kernel to disable certain wakelocks as well.
Kernels overall really don't offer a ton for battery life increases, maybe 5%
Stock locked bootloader, clean oos 9.0.2 gets me over 5hours of screen usage. And i am using location services and bluetooth always. Since i moves to total stock state this phone is a battery beast.

Mate, what exactly wakelocks you're blocking via ex manager app? I mean which is safe to block?
There are a few already blocked with EX Kernel. the one I block all the time is IPA_WS, the others are preset to blocked. I recommend taking a look and see in the list that have high wake times and block one at a time and see how your phone acts for a day if no issues move on to another. This is of course based on if your phone isn't sleeping. If your phone has a high percentage deep sleep time (mine is always over 93% if im not streaming music with screen off) then you don't need to worry about your wake locks with higher times listed.

Do all notifications still come on time with the modules + greenify?
Back in my G4 days I use to use greenify but thought it's not needed anymore due to the nature of android pie
Edit: forgot to contribute. My current setup includes xXx module + EX kernel. Power efficient workqueues enabled, followed the recommendation for stune, and no other mods or edits after that. Best I've gotten was on a weekend, wifi all day, 8 hours SoT on track for 9 hours. Hardly used snapchat that day which likely attributed to the good times.
On a day to day basis I get less than that since there's moment I use data and I use snap fairly often. I'd say anywhere from 4-6 hours SoT.
Nice! I still get notifications (WhatsApp and Telegram), even after enabling the above mentioned Magisk modules, and Greenifying some apps.
As for both idle battery life and screen on battery life, I'd have one main recommendation:
1) use good well-made apps. i.e. open source apps:
-no data leaks so no idle battery drain,
-Most of the time better quality, lighter (so better performance and take less battery when you use them)
-Design-wise : usually they follow well google guidelines
-better support often as well, developers are closer to the community
2) If the option 1 is not available, use your browser instead of bad apps! Like for your favorite websites (news, bank, forums, etc.), most of them have decent mobile versions available on your browser and so you won't multiply apps on your device, and they won't drain battery for nothing. I've never had issues with idle battery drains for years now simply because I don't use random apps. Only the ones I trust.
So go through your app lists, and think for each one of them, do you actually need it? Wouldn't it be fine to just use the website? Could I use a lighter alternative instead?
3) Here are a few suggestions of lightweight apps you could use instead of the "famous" ones, and that I personally recommend:
-Phonograph instead of Play Music, Spotify. The design is wonderful, it's only a few MB and it's fast as f***. Open source
-Use Kiwi browser instead of chrome: no google bloatware, built-in adblocker, bottom bar, well made dark mode, other useful features, optimized performance. Partially open source
-Delete the facebook app and use your browser instead
-Use QKSMS: just a nice design and open source.
-Adaway if you have magisk: open source adblocker
-Amaze file manager: lightweight, gorgeous design, open source
-Libretorrent if you download torrents, nice design, open source
-Barcode scanner, open source
-MatLog to take logs, nice design, open source
That's pretty much all, you don't need much more apps. Feel free to freeze the Google apps you don't use.
Then it's basic advice: turn off location, bluetooth, wifi when you don't need it, check permissions, turn off always on wifi, wifi to improve location, etc.
Use dark themes when they are available, very useful on our device.

I wanted to know if they both differ in battery life..

How many hours of SOT are you getting now?
i want a rom with the minimal google services and every other thing is available on the damn play store, you don't need to fill me up with google speech services as well as the google application, yet android webview and don't even get me started on google services for ar and the list goes on and on for the bloatware that we in the first place, abandoned the official miui to get rid of, rather the developers of pixel experience and arrowos, etc... are giving us so much bloatware, even the vanilla builds they have so much bloatware, what i want is google play store and google play services and i will and can download any other application that i want and uninstall anything i don't want on my phone, developers seem to be forgetting the basic gist of a custom rom, it's to get rid of bloatware from its roots, not to just hide it or even disable it, but don't have that kinda storage on my or active background processors i wanna have the best battery life, with the basic functions of my xiaomi note 10 pro, i wanna have the 108 camera application, the default miui calling application, it's very light, of course i don't want the buggy google phone app, it's very laggy and severely slow.
don't give me the google calendar preinstalled i will just get it whenever i want it, don't give me no option to uninstall the aosp keyboard, give me the bare minimum just to run this rom as light as possible, anything else i will get it i promise, if i couldn't get it, let me cry on my own.
everything is installable, but not everything is uninstallable.
i have tried every other rom, that's on here, they seem to be just copying and pasting roms with different names, we don't need a ton of useless roms, what we want is one rom, very miui like, but with no bloatware and i don't wanna hear, try xiaomi eu, cause i did, and as a matter of fact i am on now, it has a lot of bloatware as well, mi browser, mi calendar, mi weather, mi coin, get apps, with no option to uninstall any just disable. still the stuff remains in my system storage, taking up my storage for nothing, and i am assuming also draining my battery very minimally in the background.
if a developer can provide that, we're by all means willing to donate very generously. we don't want a bunch of copycats, i already said that, i can't put enough emphasis on it, though.
Cause we didn't leave miui indonesia and so on and so forth, to get buggy custom roms with a lot of bloatware as well, and also so much more buggy that miui roms, no rapid charging, no taking advantage of my 33 watt, no 108 camera.

I bought my device on the 14th and the time that I have had it I haven't seen a single ad on any of the miui apps. I see ads on other apps I use like boost for reddit. But no miui ads. My file manager is clean. I remember seeing ads on it on whyred ages ago.
As for Bloatware I only had Facebook and YouTube music and YouTube itself. Otherwise I don't consider the radio, miui service feedback as bloat.
Anyone else with this device have the same. I see a lot of complaints from x4 pro owners but my experience on miui has been very solid. Only real issue I've seen is the screen flickering at certain brightness levels.
Nvm. I guess it took a while but I see ads now.

Hi, it seems that i didn't receive ads for a while too
can't say when it stopped since I've shifted to an AOSP based rom
but all my time being on Miui I've received no ads on this device (i have received ads on a different device though)
can't say the same for bloatware sadly, Miui IN has way too much bloatware for me to even list down
some of them are
Mi pay, Mi mail, Mi store, Mi coin, Mi Browser and the list just keeps going on
For me I only see adds in a couple of apps if I run them so try not to run them like in cleaner and I think the security app as for bloatware I would say Kaspersky is rubbish as the phone has i think avast as it's security within the phone that I don't think you can take off for me I think maybe what if they leave say 90% of all apps of the device and maybe have a file app with all the crap so you can choose what to install so no Google apps apart from the play store you know the basics that is vital for you to use your phone but still give the phone some nice things a strange one for me is second space some apps for me in there are not on the main account
Received my Global X4 Pro 5G last week and it came with bloat, ads and other junk but the Android 12 update pending. However, after updating to 12 the only things still there are Mi remote, Themes and Mi Video. I'm also using ControlD as my private dns and when I check the logs there are all sorts of blocked polling attempts to Xiaomi servers.
Wondering if anyone has noticed any differences with MIUI optimization turned off? Personally I feel the phone has been a lot faster/smoother since switching it off but I understand you loose floating windows
As long as you have taken all necessary steps to ensure you are getting notifications from non-Xiaomi apps (ie Google Messenger, WhatsApp, etc.) and replaced your MIUI stock keyboard and Voice Assistant (I uninstalled them by ADB command), then you can leave MIUI Optimization on. It provides much better battery management and a generally smoother exprience. There are a few annoyances (like it will ask for your Xiaomi account password before you can complete the install of Google apps which are banned in China) but your phone will run fine. Generally MIUI doesn't play well with Google apps, but as I say, if you have uninstalled the stock apps and ensured you are getting all notifications, then I found it was better to leave it on.
