Hey,
I am facing a pretty common issue with this phone - camera quality after EMUI 10 update became just a joke. How I could rollback to EMUI 9 or 8? Or maybe there are some fixes for this issue?
@qreto have you managed to get to EMUI 9 again? I'm curious because I'm trying to get from EMUI 8 to EMUI 9 without any luck

No, I just bought S20 FE. For 380 euros that phone was a bargain. No more that crap P20 that is lagging on every corner.

This is ridiculous. My crumbling p10 has EMUI 9.1 for a few years now and the "new" p20 I wanted to replace it with just can't get EMUI 9.1?!

You should be able to update it easily through the settings of the phone. EMUI 10 is available for sure.

I should; that's right. Yet.. it just says: "no updates" in both the normal settings and in the HiCare app
@qreto In fact.. I just double checked again and the HiCare app isn't even showing me an "Update" section anywhere. It used to be under "Quick Services", I think? – It's nowhere to be found!

I live in India and was desperately waiting for this phone to release here.. But don't know why they released a single sim variant here.. So I had to import it from china.
AL10 variant works fine with Indian sim.. everything is perfect but just had a few question.
1. Does this phone has volte support.. If not then will It get volte support in near future like Indian variant.. - I cannot make calls from JIO 4G sim with its inbuilt dialer... (I have to keep the JioVoice App running to receive calls.. )
2. What about the updates?? Will I get EMUI 5.. ever??
3. This is something strange.. Apps generally do not gives notification on its own.. Like WhatsApp.. I have to open the app to get notification and receive messages.. Seems like it just does not work in background
Anyone?? Please

You've asked a lot, my friend. It's hard to predict the future. I can only try:
About VoLTE: I guess that it won't come with EMUI 5 for AL00 initially but it may be add later as VoLTE will become a standard feature soon in China too.
About upgrade: I had Chinese Honor 7 and upgrade to marshmallow came late and I had to download it from a Chinese website. I hope that it wouldn't be the case with Chinese Honor 8 since Huawei is committed to bring upgrades to every Honor device every 3 months.
And about your notification issue: Check app settings regarding notification, permission and battery. Make sure that all involved settings are enabled.
I too got a honor 8 FRD-AL00 Chinese version....
Please help me as well to remove chinese apps and as well as to get emui 5.....All others r getting it..... But not mine..... ????

It doesn't have VoLTE support even in Indian version too. It is little hard to use JIO Dialer. But still, there is no other option

Nope. I don't think so. You should be prepared to stay in the current version itself.
If you have got the Indian Version, you will get it for sure Till Android O.

This is common EMUI problem across all Honor mobiles. Updates might fix that. But its not for your model.

A few days ago I got the update, it wasn't EMUI 5, but regular security update B171. I'm pretty sure that EMUI 5 will follow. So be patient. Nobody has really gotten EMUI 5, some owners of US, UK and Indian models received beta version, but it's still buggy.
Regarding Chinese apps, a lot of them could be uninstalled. Those which can't, could be deactivated. Just use force stop and disable in settings-apps. And disabled apps (any other as well) could be removed from the home screen. On the screen pull two fingers together and you'll get option to hide any app you wish.
Install google play store and any other google app by your preference. Download and change theme - this one looks very promising: https://huaweiemuithemes.blogspot.si/2016/11/emui-50-dark-beta.html
change wallpaper, install Nova launcher and find better icom pack like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themezilla.pixelui&hl=en
Just download icon pack, change every icon on your home screen with the new one, save configuration and uninstall icon pack.
You gonna have totally western phone like your friends and you'll feel better.

As of my knowledge, This model won't get updated.
I do have Honor 5X like this. Im staying in EMUI 3 till now.
If it is US, Europe, Middle East and Indian region version we can guarantee that it will get for sure. Not for this one.
It certainly will get EMUI 5.0. There is no reason not to get it as the phone was launched this year. There are beta versions being tested now. Guess the actual update might only happen early next year. Check the official chinese forums for the updates: (use google translate and you will understand most of it) - http://club.huawei.com/forum-2404-1.html
And this one is specific to FRD-AL10 model as well: http://club.huawei.com/thread-11277704-1-1.html

I do not have the Honor 8, but its bigger version - the V8. However I need to follow the Honor 8 forums here at XDA and the chinese forums for the developments as Honor v8 does not have a dedicated xda forum. I am still on Android MM.

If you are having KNT-AL20, then you will get the EMUI 5. But it will be little late.
I have a KNT-AL10 that would also get EMUI 5. It's in closed beta testing now. I know it may be late, possibly by March-17
Its 2020 & still i am using Honor 8..model is FRD-AL10 and EMUI 8.Does it support VoLTE?
Starting to get frustrated with this phone, since the last update b156 Google maps is stuttery which wasn't before, also noticed general stutters everywhere as well not just google maps, it's fine on my 6p so the mate 9 should be eating Google maps for dinner, why are these firmware updates so slow ? Don't think I'll buy a hwawei again until they get their act together.
I have no problems with B156. With B156 my mate 9 have more Akku power.
Gesendet von meinem MHA-L29 mit Tapatalk
Well on mine there's 100% micro stutters when it tries to open an app, a little stutter that never happened on the previous update. And why are they not rolling out updates at the same time, I've been on 156 for ages.
use firmware finder, and get a newer release..I'm on 181 and its awesum!

Depending on version (Cxxx) the builds are different. I'm on B181 on my Mate 9, C432. And, for example, C567 has B183.
However, if Huawei hasn't approved the full or OTA firmware you wont be able to download from Firmware finder.
Just wanted to bump this back in to the spotlight.
Google Maps is not fluid on my Mate 9 pro. I have no issues in any other apps, but Maps is jittery/laggy when moving around. Is the app just poorly optimized for this phone?

In my experience one week or until next update.... ?
Can this version be rooted with Magisk?
No, no root is available.
Can someone who did update confirm that the OEM Unlock is not grayed out ?

We need developers who are willing to spend a lot of time and resources on this phone. The development for this phone has been marginal and things are unlikely to change much.
The newer Mate 20 running Android 9 has to this day still not been rootable .... everything pointing to one single thing: if you buy a Huawei phone you get stuck to Emui and unrootable phone. I myself plan to stay on 8.1 forever unless root and twrp become available.
Got OTA today. The problems with sound distortion that I had when streaming using LDAC and HWA at the highest bitrate are gone. They added the gesture navigation from Mate 20 Pro but this still need work as it's not smooth enough.

Yes, I'm in the beta and this is the first update since the initial release. The model is CTL-L29.
I think they are close to releasing the final version and I heard that this will happen this month.

I don't think there is a way to check per say, but you should see big differences in how it processes images. For instance Blue Sky or Greenery will not be over the top like in P20 Pro. The Mate 20's version of Master AI is much improved over the P20 series.
I hope this version would help fix some historical problems, especially the one with smart unlock stop working that really piss me off.
Said this, I hope at the time Huawei will release the OTA it will be stable enough to don't let me regret Oreo.
Just for fun, in Italy sometimes major updates appeared before on branded models, I think this is merely due to the attempt to please the operators.

Was thinking exactly the same, this disappearing Smart Lock issue is very annoying.
Is there anyone here running on beta that can confirm it was resolved?
This is why I prefer the Chinese version. Excellent. I'll post my thoughts.
And I'll see if this affects Google and closes the new method of installing it. Or better, allows a simple Google play store install now that Trump might be easing up on the ban

I'm not complaining
Still on .125 patch3 on my LIO-AL00 imported from China - are you guys doing anything differently to get the .132 update such as using a VPN? I've tried that and using HiSuite but it still says no available updates.

Coronavirus pandemic from Wuhan!
The HMA-L29 Mate 20 already get 10.1 over OTA. I bet frw days and we will get 10.1 for Maze 20X
https://www[DOT]huaweicentral[DOT]com/emui-10-1-begins-to-roll-out-for-huawei-mate-20-x-4g/
the update started going to 20x
So I've gotten EMUI 10.1 and lot of the features are missing from Mate 20 X. No app switch gesture no Huawei Assistant No Meetime No multi device control panel. mate 20 Pro users suggest these work
For me only really the colorful AOD, and better multitasking work.

Everything work fine with the new way of activating floating windows and Split screens!
I can feel the performance increases too as Huawei has claimed about EMUI 10.1.
However, there is one major "disadvantage" and that is the speaker media volume loudness has been reduced about 30% to 40% as compared to EMUI 10 judging by the media volume control level! It's quite obvious literrately!
If the speaker media volume loudness is a great concern to you. This issue might hold you back! Other than this, EMUI 10.1 is problem free! :good:
