I've connected a physical keyboard via OTG to my X3-Pro, but it won't change the language.
It tells me to use shift+space, however, under "Keyboard, Mouse, and trackpad" in Settings, I choose my second desired layout, but it isn't applied (first image).
Additionally, the shortcut page shows me a magnifier glass to press for shortcuts (second image), but there's no such button on my keyboard (or most other keyboards)!

Is there a way to map a button (prefer the PPT button) so that when you push it, the onscreen keyboard appears?
Thanks!
Not too sure ...
AFAIK, the keyboard can only popup when the OS recognises you are in an environment where text input is allowed by the foreground application.
If that is the case, then a crude way of doing this would be to write a mortscript to "click" the screen at the coordinates where the keyboard icon is. This script could then be linked to one of the many keyboard mappers available (Have a look at AE Button Plus at http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php). This is crude however - I realise the position of the keyboard icon can vary from the middle to the rhs of the screen depending on application.
Why not just use the real keyboard ?

The reason is that I'm trying to get Windows 95 to run on my Fuze - and I got everything working except that I need to hit the F12 key. For that I installed VGA_Keyboard which has that - but the issue I'm having is figuring out how to get the keyboard to popup so I can actually hit the damn F12 key...hahaha...so close.....yet so far away...grrrrr
W95? Wow, that's interesting!
Sounds like the keyboard will be a w95 thing rather than a ppc thing? If so, is it not a w95 soft keyboard you need? Anyway, sorry, don't think I can help :-(
I have tried to install different keyboards and select it under setting but it will not change from default keyboard any ideas? Smart keyboard.
go to your web browser or and long press on an open input field. the choose input method and choose your keyboard of choice.
I enabled it in the settings by checking it and when I long press on an empty field I don't get an options to change input. What do I do?
*** I have to enable it in the settings since long press doesn't work.
when you have a text field open and the stock keyboard showing, long press the setting button on the stock keyboard. bottom row, second from left. select thumb keyboard.

How to apply PC layout?

Instead of hijacking the original thread the above question came from, I'll put the instructions in this new one.
The Android keyboard (AOSP) (and the Google Keyboard, I believe) is capable of having a numbers row and being set up to resemble a traditional PC keyboard. For those who are unfamiliar with how to set it up, here's how:
Go to Settings > PERSONAL > Language & Input
Press the settings button to the right of 'Android keyboard (AOSP).'
In 'Android keyboard settings,' scroll all the way down and press 'Advanced settings.'
In 'Advanced settings,' press 'Custom input styles.'
In 'Android keyboard settings,' press the 'ADD STYLE' button on the upper-right corner of the screen.
Choose your Language. Then choose 'PC' for the Layout. Press the 'Add' button when done.
Return to the 'Android keyboard settings' page in step 3. Press 'Input languages.'
In 'Input languages,' deselect 'Use system language' and any other default 'ACTIVE INPUT METHODS.' Select the method that corresponds to the language you previously chose that is followed by '(PC).'
Back out of Settings, and enjoy your PC layout keyboard.
Hope this helps.
Very nice guide, cheers, I was wondering how to get the number keys to show :good:
EDIT - Not a biggy, but it doesn't seem to have changed to UK layout even after following the guide perfectly, the @ symbol is above the 2 and the " symbol is above the right shift key, that is the US keyboard layout, the UK layout is reversed
Like I say, not a big deal, just wondering why it didn't set UK up even though I have it selected

This looks like an oversight/bug by Google:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37166
If you want to try another keyboard with a PC layout, how about Hacker's Keyboard:
http://code.google.com/p/hackerskeyboard/
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.pocketworkstation.pckeyboard&hl=en
It claims to support 'English/British (en_GB),' and it even includes arrow keys.
I installed the KitKat Google keyboard, but it looked like the PC keyboard has been removed as an option. Can anyone confirm this; or better yet, suggest a workaround?
Dear friends, I have attached external keyboard to my android mobile successfully, and I have to operate my android mobile by external keyboard only means without mouse.
Now there are two options one is to operate mobile through shortcut keys of keyboard like arrows key, tab etc. On this way I can select and open app but I can not select and click some buttons of app, this is a problem.
Now second options is that move cursor (pointer of mouse) directly by keyboard with the help of numerical keys of keyboard, this is possible in window OS by doing some change in control panel. But I don't know how to do in android OS.
Actually I am making a home security system and I require operate android mobile by keyboard only.
Please guide me , please, please.
