Question S22U images look like oil paint. - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

I have been using the S22U for 2 months but I'm not quite satisfied with the camera as Samsung marketed with camera feature the most.
My S21U does a better job than S22U. Most of the time, the images look like oil paint for some reason. And sometimes it does a great job.
I'm attaching 3 photos. All these are shot using the same phone. You can see the difference. The first two photos are on same day, 3rd one is on another day.
I was even thinking that my phone might be a factory defect one. I bought the same model (N908N) for my brother. That one is also the same. Then I used one my colleagues' S22Ultra for a few hours. That one is also the same. So, I dropped the thought of a factory defect device.
Is anyone facing the same?

S22U snapdragon version with March update here. And no this never happens unless I use long range digital zoom at higher numbers. Which is perfectly understandable.

I have been experiencing this as well(Snapdragon unit) from the very beginning at 30x sometimes and 100x mostly like the one attached below. Did not experience this with S21 Ultra.

Sadly I'm experiencing this at 1x. This is why it bothers me a lot. I'm also using a Snapdragon unit (908N KT version)

i just had an update

I do not have this issue on my S22U SD device (at least that I have seen yet). I have the SM-S908U model.

My Photos look fine on U.S. Unlocked using Samsung's Stock Camera Software.

Overly aggressive NR in post. Can't get past immutable laws of physics, computational photography be damned! ;-)
If you stay within the limits of the optics with adequate lighting (ISO 800 max) the pics look reasonable even when viewed on a graphics workstation. They will ALWAYS look better at 1:1 on the phone!
The 100X is pretty much a joke until you need to read a sign at the end of a street or see an equipment ID number at the top of a power pole, for example!

Using Samsung for the past 12 years, every single note model. And spent 1500USD for S22U. Don't you think I have the right to get offended by the quality of the camera?
I have mentioned that those photos were taken at 1x not 100x.
Also, the photos look the same on the mobile phone too.

Something is wrong. Mine don't look anywhere near that bad.
My main issue with Samsung is excessive over sharpening everywhere.
EXCEPT the Z Fold 3. Funny too, everyone says how bad its camera is but the SOFTWARE its using actually makes better pics when within the limits of the hardware.

There might be a problem with Korean Model. I have flashed 3 different Korean ROM (couldn't flash US ROM) with Odin. All the ROMs have the same problem. My brother's device also has the same problem. I hope they will fix it with a software update.

I thought the button on the back of the phone was a flash, I guess I was wrong.. I mean, why would HTC put a camera flash in a $600 phone
Anyways, it's too late now, though.. Verizon is sending me my TP2 as a free replacement/upgrade to my Storm, which I've replaced 27 (not an estimate, a real number!) times in 3 months! So, I'll have to live with it either way.
For now, since I don't have mine yet, can someone take some pictures in different conditions (sunny, cloudy, dark, etc) and post them up in the highest resolution? Maybe host them on imageshack.us or something and post the link here if XDA doesn't allow large images?
I'm very interested in seeing how well/poor the camera is without a flash.
Thanks guys!
Anyone? I'd really appreciate it
I've only got one picture I've taken with mine (and kept) so far, but I think you'll find it amusing I happen to be a tech in a VZW store and saw this baby today:

I would love to know how you do these mods? Would they work for the CDMA version?
Hey here is a pic I took with my Touch Pro 2, I am on Sprint so therefor I have the Sprint version.
No modifications to the OS or camera. Pure Touch Pro 2 camera awesomeness:
I am surprised that a cell phone camera can achieve bokeh. It's pretty awesome. You can control many features including an auto iso mode which is neat because it limits to iso 800 so you dont have horridly grainy images. I shot that at iso 100 I believe. You can view the EXIF data for the info. The lens appears to be f/1.0 which would explain the awesome bokeh. It focuses really close.
Other options for taking pictures are the size, panoramic mode (pretty cool I guess), JPEG quality, Image Properties (sharpness, saturation, contrast) and a couple others.
Cam Mods...
I dunno if they'll work on the CDMA model.. but there a few post in the Tweaks listing: LINK

also this one has a bunch of Mods; LINK

The 7MP tweak works great, and isn't slow at all!
I tweaked the registry per the tutorial, soft reset the phone, started it back up and snapped 1/3 panorama pics, got to the second one and got a Windows error.. tried again and the phone reset itself. Once it started back up I tried again and it worked great! I've taken 3 panoramic pics now, all were about 2.5-3MB, and I haven't gotten another error.

[Hardware Fail] Camera Lens Flare Issue

"I've created a Telegram group to discuss possible issues with some users and most everybody noticed a huge issue with the Camera, with this one having huge lens flare in certain angle where the source of light is not even visible on the Viewfinder. This happens not only at sunlight but also at night where the strength of a single street lamp ruins the whole Camera experience."
This was the E-Mail i've been sending to Oppo and apparently their fix is:
1 - Clear Camera App Cache
2 - Reboot the Phone
3 - Update your Software Version
4 - Factory Reset the phone
The problem is that this is a Hardware issue and Oppo doesn't recognize this.

This is how a Lens Flare happens and it is normal in most cases, but not here. People are having this aiming the phone to the floor.
So, do you guys have this issue?
Basically go outdoor and keep playing with the Camera until you see the Flares as the attachment shows.
It must be on a certain angle and only affects the Main Camera.
More examples:
Good write up of the issue, I haven't gone out of my way to try and reproduce your issue but I've had the phone since release in the UK and taken at least 100 photos in varying lighting conditions and not one of them has any flares or reflections like in your shots

you don't have sun in UK
only the night shots are mine
Mmmm I live in Seville (Spain) hard sun 300 out of 365 days of the year and for the moment I havent noticed this, here im going to post 3 recent photos (obviously with the find x2 pro) and in one of them (the grizzlies one) maybe a little bit of flare in the left side of the photo
its not in direct contact with the light, its on a certain angle depending on the phone.

i dont notice it aswell on daylight in real life usage, but when you know how to reproduce it it's hard to miss
I don't see flares in my shots, but I notice that there is a blurring of outer area of the frame.
When I take a photo of a document or something a foot or two from the lens its very noticeable.
Its sharp in the center of the frame but blurs are very obvious around the center.

Having exactly the same issue here. I get a halo toward the bottom of pictures mainly around 6-7 in the evening. Doesn't look like a software issue I would say definitely lens related on the main camera.

Still can't seem to replicate this issue which makes me think it's device specific, however from the Engineers reply it seems like he's implying it's a limitation rather than a fault

if its limited to some devices, even better. just replace the faulty devices.
Well I don't think it's a limitation because iv have this camera since release and and iv just noticed it yesterday IV been taking pictures for a while now with no issues then just suddenly IV noticed it happening, seems very very bad at takes g a basic picture with a lamp at the side

Question No camera updates?

Its been few months since relase and tons of updates, but still, no updates for the camera. How is that possible?
I remember, that S21 Ultra got plenty of camera updates straight out of the box. There was neither one camera update for our S22 Ultra.
Do you think its still coming or we should accept camera as it is ?
If you haven't noticed updates can and do break things. Do you have specific issues?
Invariably Samsung will issues updates for the cam. Unless there's a gross firmware issue(s) the improvements may be more superficial and likely not greatly increase performance.
The more that Samsung seems to emphasize their phone's cam performance, the greater the overall decline in their product. Sammy is drowning in their own hype marketing bs. 2 years straight of not hitting the mark with their flagship phones in my opinion.
This N10+ in my hand isn't small or light but the S22U is bigger, heavier, thicker with a worse display/bevel ratio.
Worse, no expandable storage, SOT isn't better, spen on the wrong side again, in actual usage only barely faster and that all goes to pieces once the ram loads up. Now there are reports of cam issues coming out that appear to be with the optics of the N22U.
Updates will fix some of these issues but not most. Samsung, innovative ball dropping.

What specific issues are you having with the camera? I haven't experienced any problems with taking quality photos. I don't think there is a need for updates unless there are known issues.

This Blackhawk character has been on Note 10's d**k since it dropped and has spammed literally hundreds of threads, where he's just ****ting on every subsequent Samsung release. I think we should get a fundraiser together to get him a new phone. I feel like he can't afford a new one and needs his self worth validated by claiming the Note 10 as the only viable Samsung phone out there It's quiet sad and comical at the same time at this point honestly.

Yet they do nothing to stop the trolling. I come here to participate on a forum about my phone and every day the troll with the annoying avatar shows up espousing the virtues of his N10+ and how superior it is to anything else. He's not the only one either but he's certanly the most annoying.

It has issues (towards end of vid)... and so does Android 11 and 12.
Members are posting a crappy blur pattern when trying to simply make a copy of a letter with it too. We'll see what's up when the updates and the dust settles. Regardless it's not not getting a better form factor, any lighter or any more memory. It can never boast a 1.5 tb dual drive or have the advantages that confers.
Actually I did get a new phone half year ago
To be frank I'm napalming Samsung for screwing up again. No token trophies.

Question Should I buy a Pixel 6 or 6a?

Hey guys, I hope you are having a good day!
So I'm planning to buy my first Pixel phone. Super excited. I'm a big sucker for Pixel phones' cameras and their Pixel-exclusive features. So far I've been using a low-tier Samsung phone so I want to take this big step with the correct phone.
I'm expecting and would be using the new phone to take a lot of photos, from close-ups of flowers and bugs to portraits to pictures of landscapes. AND I LOVE IT WHEN I CAN ZOOM AND SEE THE DETAILS. I don't game much, except for some casual CODM now and then. A faulty fingerprint reader won't really bother me. The lack of an audio jack isn't an issue. I'll be using only 4G. As for battery life, it's around 6 hours on average.
Something I'm really concerned about is the overheating issue. I live in a tropical country, where outside temps can easily get 30 Celsius, though I won't be using it in direct sunlight much. A big turnoff would be issues with the Silicon, where the bugs/problems would be uncorrectable since I wouldn't be able to easily RMA from where I live. I don't need the telephoto lens or the 120Hz screen. So I don't think the 6 pro is an option.
So, what do you think? Which one should I go for, and why?
I'm getting the 6a. I tried the the Pixel 6 but had to return it because the fingerprint sensor was horrible and other minor negatives with the Pixel 6.
It sounds like you don't really need a powerful phone, so I think the 6a would be perfect for you. I don't recall if the Pixel 6 heated up on me personally or not, but from reviews, people did say that Pixel 6 heated up and the 6a warmed up to a lesser degree. Like you, I also don't need telephoto lens or 120Hz.
I don't take much macro shots, but you can take a look at pictures that people have taken with the 6a and see if it's acceptable to you. Me personally... I just need good pictures from my phone. If I want better shots, I would bring my Sony RX100 or other cameras. From the reviews I watched of the 6a, the photos are great but they're not spectacular bc of the older sensors on the 6a. That doesn't bother me, but it might be a dealbreaker for you. That's because with a bit of photo editing, I can make the photos shine. The Pixel 6a also shoots in RAW format, so you could always edit your photos afterwards to compensate for any deficiencies.

I should receive my 6a within the next 2 days, so I'll have to test it out and see if there are any dealbreakers for me. Worse case, I can always return it.
Yeah, I saw reports of the fingerprint sensor issue that came out in the last 24 hours. Hopefully the fingerprint issue is not widespread. I watched another youtube reviewer where he couldn't replicate the fingerprint issue. He tried, I think, 6 unregistered fingers and also had his wife try a few fingers, but wasn't able to unlock the phone.
With the ui lag issue, I'll have to test it out and see. If it's due to the screen being 60Hz and not something else, then I'm ok with the 60Hz. I currently have the Pixel 4XL and I force it to 60Hz. Also, I always turn off most of the android animations anyway (from developer options), which I find makes the ui feel faster.
I own both (my wife just got the P6a). I would absolutely recommend the P6 over the P6a - even to the point of suggesting buying a used P6 over a new P6a if cost is a concern. Used P6 pricing is about the same as the full retail P6a price right now.
I got the P6a only because of the generous pre-order trade in values Google was giving, along with the free earbuds that brought the effective price of the P6a down to less than $100. If I had to pay full retail price for the P6a, I would absolutely have bought a used P6 instead.
Best battery life I've had on a phone. It has very good standby time like the Samsung A52s. The battery was already great from the first charge, which was unusual. I don't know how much worse it would be on 4G though. I assume 5G will eat the battery, so I disabled that already, like on all my phones. Pixel 6a really pits a smile on my face. The fingerprint works 98% of the time. I can almost say it works better than my Samsung S22. But it doesn't work when it is cold outside, at less than 7°C anyway.
Camera is great and screen is very nice and smooth. I think it is only in scrolling that 120Hz has advantage over it. However, I use 60Hz on my S22 anyway, so I don't care.

Question Does your S23 have camera issues? Blurred image? Bananagate? Other problems?

I'm opening this topic to get this information to all S23/S23+ users.
We have a serious problem with the camera and Samsung has come to say that it is a feature and so far Samsung has been washing its hands and not pronouncing itself, not even issuing a statement about this problem.
Is your S23 good? Vote!
Almost 6 years separate the OnePlus 5T from the S23+ and still, the 5T gets better definition and focus, despite the fact that the 5T already has enough problems with the Camera.
But Samsung continues to say that it is a function and characteristic of the lens of the S23+ what is clearly seen in the "banana" effect is a circle of blur, perhaps not because of the sensor but because of the poor construction of the lens. I, like many others, feel cheated for having bought the S23.
Look at the photos and draw conclusions.

5T vs S23+
Yes. Very bad photos if you dont hold the phone completeley still. Also in apps like snapchat, it takes 2 seconds to capture the photo, which is often completely blurred (not out of focus, but a preview of two secs before tapping the shutter button)
S23 (non +) user here. My phone's been suffering from the very same issue and in 90%+ of all the photos I have taken with it so far you can clearly spot the 'banana-spahed' blur at first sight without having to pixel-peep.
The phone itself is amazing.. yet the cameras turned out to be a huuuge letdown. Never seen such inconsistent, over-sharpened and over-processed images before. And then there's the blur which ruins pretty much every image taken (even more). My 2016 LG G5 takes better and sharper images than my S23..
Can someone that also uses snapchat confirm my issue please? It can't be just me...

Sure
My S23 256mb arrived yesterday and today I returned it!
It had horrible focus and the bananagate effect too!
My old Honor 8 from 2016 focus better on close subjects than S23.
I refuse to believe this is normal on a 2023 flagship!

It's sad to say, but from 2020 smartphones have gotten worse and worse, the S23 is not worthy of a flagship, the camera has issues and Samsung just won't admit it.

Yep that's what I've experienced too!
I tested the S23 against my Tablet S8+ / Pixel 6a / Honor 8 and all of them took clean focused pictures of documents. This situation is important to me because I digitalize a lot of documents like this.
The Samsung official position about this is that it is a normal effect and for this kind of utilization we must take the photo using the 2x or 3x option with the phone far from the paper. I refuse to believe this.
But even assuming that the 2x or 3x method solves it, this problem does not end here (on close up shots) because there are reports of image blur in the same sensor place (left side when in landscape) when shooting normal daily photos.
Another report I did read but did not test, is that if we put that same A4 paper on a wall (instead of a table) and take the photo with the phone vertically, the banana effect does not occur! Can anyone test this scenario? If this is true it blows out of the water the theory of 2x/3x and takes it to a mechanical problem due to gravity orientation of the sensor or other camera component.
I have been using my S23+ for two months now and no issues on camera like that...

How can I check that?
But I believe it was made here in Brazil, where I live.

The country where your device was made is printed on the box, on the sticker where you can also see the IMEI.
PT: amigo está na caixa, na etiqueta onde se pode ver o IMEI
Well I don't have that kind of issues. Images are all good and focused (no blur on the side), only in snapchat it has some kind of shutter lag for like 2 seconds.
