Hello,
I'm still trying to maintain an old Note 7 N930S. Issue is that many of the posts related to battery replacement are years ago, and battery supplies have changed since then.
I also don't want to bump these old topics either.
I've tried a few "chinesium" batteries, two actually. The quality of them is dismal. The leads aren't even welded to the controller, just holding contact with tape. And I'm certainly sure it should not take only 20 minutes to go from flat to 74% on a "regular" charger either.
Even then, they cause the phone to bootloop and periodically crash in anything but Odin mode.
So the question is, what's a good source or idea to "make" a replacement battery? I do happen to have an OG controller for a Note FE battery if that's needed to "rig together" one.

My gf washed my phone. It had like 7% or less when it went into wash. Full cycle.
I took battery out, put in rice for like 2 days, then I put it in warm place, on dash of car in sun for 20 minutes at a time in between delivering pizzas, ect....
I throw away the battery, and I use one of my back-up HD2 batteries. I use the external charger to charge it.
I boot it up, and it works! Touch screen, buttons, internet, speaker, camera! EVERYTHING. The screen after 2 days even looks perfect. No discoloration.
One issue.....
Battery drain. It loses like 1-2% battery per minute, even in airplane mode and screen is off. It won't last more than 40 minutes with moderate to low usage.
I plugged it into USB via my pc when it was at 15%. An hour passes, and now it's 3%. I confirm that it is plugged in, and the "charging" animation happens.
It's not the battery, because it's brand new.
What is the issue? Is it a short? Can I fix this? The phone is 100% working condition except for the horrible battery life.
I appreciate anyone's insight into this issue....
I had a similar issue on an older HTC Elf way back in the WM6.1 days(... lol 'way back').
I hope you have insurance and a friend who can sell it that it's not your fault to get you a new phone for free cause this is probably damaged some component inside the phone. Fixing it your self is pretty much impossible since it's not encouraged at all (there is very little support resources) and the manufacturer isn't just going to sell you parts to fix your phone.
If you don't have insurance I wish you the best of luck anyways.
(However I hope I'm wrong about all this, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. :\ )

Yeah....no insurance unfortunately...
I know the phone is going for $295 shipped NEW on ebay at the moment, but still...
I don't know if I want a new HD2 or if I should just wait a month or two until the Samsung Hercules comes out.....
You are lucky that your phone is working....it seems there is some short on the board...which is difficult to repair as most of these have 7 layers PCBs....sell it off and get a new one..
nice that it still works.. sounds like a short though if your battery is getting drained.. tough stuff is even if you dry it completely the water leaves residue on the circuitry. even if you get rid of the battery draining, the circuitry is more vulnerable to further damaging all on its own
My AT&T edge wont turn on today. I awoke to a phone that was charging all night while on like normal, screen was off, charge LED was green, but the power button would not wake the screen.
Things that I have experienced before the problem and tried after:
About 5 months ago my camera stopped recording videos randomly. I could not record a video of any quality for more than 5-10mins in varying duration's the camera would just stop working and drop back to home screen no error message.
about a month ago my Edge started having a camera failed problem where using the camera sometimes "failed" where the app would freeze the whole phone for a few seconds then would crash to home screen.
about a week ago attempting to use the crippled camera to take a quick pic would drain a upto 70% filed battery instantly and it would take normal time to charge it like it was really dead. first and only time it has done this with over %40 battery
last week i unlocked the phone and put it on T-mobil and flashed 5.1.1 worked fine for 6 days still had camera problems was thinking new battery would fix it.
all this week battery could die at random times mostly below 40% but I was still getting 6-7hours a day from it, i figured it was a bad battery at the root of all this.
After this morning it would not power on I tried to power it with a hacked up USB cable, nothing.
My multi-meter says the battery has 4.37V
Would someone with a little more experience tell me if they think it's worth it to buy a new mobo, battery, and camera replacement for this phone or is it a waste of time? Is my line of thinking right is this a mainboard problem? If I attempt a repair does it make sense to try a new camera module?
This phone has never been dropped or wet it's in perfect condition as far as aesthetics go. Is it common for a phone to just not turn on at the end of its life?

If you think you have to do all that replacement, might as well go to swappa and buy a relatively good condition Edge which will prbly be cheaper than trying to get all those replacement parts. Unless you know where to get cheap replacements.
Bought my current TMobile variant from Swappa. No issues so far. you could also try Amazon

Swappa I'll check that out thanks
I tried a oven re-flow on the main board at 410F still no go.
Hey,
Last week, my Nexus 5 did not want to respond to the power button. I had the issue before and wanted to send it in to get it fixed. But my warranty was over, and I wasn't planning on spending 80-150 euro's for a phone over 2 years old.
So what I did was open up the N5, removed the motherboard and took a look at the button itself. It looked like there was a bad contact with the motherboard. So I took my soldering iron, touched the contact and I saw the solder paste spread better. I closed up the N5, booted it up and magically, the problem was fixed.
But now for some reason, the phone does not want to charge. It was at 0% and I kept it in the wall socket for a full day, but it did not charge a single percent. So I figured, maybe I broke the battery, so I ordered a new battery (not the biggest cost). Now I just placed the battery in, but it still does not charge.
Then I thought, maybe I could measure the voltage on the old and new battery, and they both give just around 4V, so conclusion, I bought a new battery for nothing.
Now the real question, is there something I can do to fix this not-charging bug without sending it in for repairs or having to buy a new motherboard?
Great thanks!

My girlfriend (about 8 months the ago) dropped her S6 in water. In her "wisdom" decided putting it straight on charge would help dry it out
I have since explained why that was bad.
I've found the phone, in my broken phone drawer and decided to look inside, expecting to see a swollen battery or something. My question would be; what's likely to have gone poof? Battery, lcd, motherboard or all the above?
8 months later, there's no LED's that light up, nothing appears on screen and charging it heats it up quite fast. I've also tried wireless charging, that does the same but slower.
Any tips would be appreciated.
Edit - phone was 4 days old
Not rooted, fully stock

Most likely the motherboard has short circuited, lcd may be intact but for sure battery and motherboard would need to be replaced. But as with water damaged phones, it's a bit of a throw of the dice as you won't know if one thing is fixed until you fix another.
Thanks for the response.
Im just trying to gage whether or not repair is worth while to sell the phone. The mother board alone is between £50 & 170,with the 50 pound option rated as a test only piece. I think I'll just get rid, thanks!
I know, it's an old device but it still works (mostly). It's a hobby.
Having owned one of these devices some years back I've never encountered this particular issue and finding no joy through Google search (of course this tiny lagging arse netbook doesn't help) I thought I'd try the Q&A thread and hope there's enough old timers that still tinker with this device paying attention.
* Having this issue on two separate batteries, one new (considering however long
it was on the shelf) and the one that came with the phone. Both fully charged when powered off
over a period of approximately 8 hours.
* Have the OEM Samsung USB charger and cord.
* Running SlimLP 5.1.1
I've read on a Droid forum that a similar issue on their device was due to the phone not actually powering off completely. Any other skyrocket folk ran into this? With apologies if this is a duplicate question hidden somewhere within the many pages of this forum of which my crappy netbook cannot fathom the depths of.
Thanks!
Update: I suspect I have a faulty USB port or some other hardware issue. No reason to believe it would be software related with the power off. The phone was purchased "remanufractured" and I noticed a crack in the plastic frame near the volume keys that may be a telltale sign.
