My AT&T edge wont turn on today. I awoke to a phone that was charging all night while on like normal, screen was off, charge LED was green, but the power button would not wake the screen.
Things that I have experienced before the problem and tried after:
About 5 months ago my camera stopped recording videos randomly. I could not record a video of any quality for more than 5-10mins in varying duration's the camera would just stop working and drop back to home screen no error message.
about a month ago my Edge started having a camera failed problem where using the camera sometimes "failed" where the app would freeze the whole phone for a few seconds then would crash to home screen.
about a week ago attempting to use the crippled camera to take a quick pic would drain a upto 70% filed battery instantly and it would take normal time to charge it like it was really dead. first and only time it has done this with over %40 battery
last week i unlocked the phone and put it on T-mobil and flashed 5.1.1 worked fine for 6 days still had camera problems was thinking new battery would fix it.
all this week battery could die at random times mostly below 40% but I was still getting 6-7hours a day from it, i figured it was a bad battery at the root of all this.
After this morning it would not power on I tried to power it with a hacked up USB cable, nothing.
My multi-meter says the battery has 4.37V
Would someone with a little more experience tell me if they think it's worth it to buy a new mobo, battery, and camera replacement for this phone or is it a waste of time? Is my line of thinking right is this a mainboard problem? If I attempt a repair does it make sense to try a new camera module?
This phone has never been dropped or wet it's in perfect condition as far as aesthetics go. Is it common for a phone to just not turn on at the end of its life?

If you think you have to do all that replacement, might as well go to swappa and buy a relatively good condition Edge which will prbly be cheaper than trying to get all those replacement parts. Unless you know where to get cheap replacements.
Bought my current TMobile variant from Swappa. No issues so far. you could also try Amazon

I lock my phone and about 10 mins later I go to unlock it and the phone powers up meaning that it has been turned off. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the charge of the battery but it keeps doing this. The other week the phone wouldn't respond for about 5 hours I would touch it and the touch screen was completely dead. I locked the phone and then the screen went black and the touch buttons at the bottom lit up and that was it the phone crashed so I needed to restart it and it just wouldn't work. 5 hours later when I woke up it responded and Bare in mind I ran about 5 ruus to get the phone back to stock so it wasn't a software problem. So has anyone else experienced one of these problems. The random shutdown is my issue at the moment. I'm considering returning it for repair because isn't it true that htc have a 2 year warranty in the uk?
Sounds daft but I'd put a piece of folded paper on top of the battery to ensure it has perfect contact and isn't able to move at all.....I have heard of others who have experienced this issue.
I would also see if you could get another battery for a short time and try that just to rule out that it is an issue with the battery.

Doesn't sound daft it's a great Idea. I have blu-tack on the slide off cover at the bottom to keep it from jiggling as one of the plastic clips broke. I will probably test another battery because they aren't exactly expensive. Do you know anything about HTC's warranty int he uk ben_pyett? Thanks for the help

I have heard multiple users that they simply rang HTC up, complained that battery didn't work and got a new one sent out.....so try that....and attempt if possible to hang on to old one, as if it turns out to be device, you get a free battery
Same issue for me, it drove me nuts. Turned out to be a faulty battery when sent off to HTC/Vodafone for repair. They replaced it so I wonder if it's a known issue.

My phone used to shut down randomly and I searched and found out that it is due to the bad design of battery placement in this phone. All I had to do was put a small piece of paper and it has never shutdown till then.
I'm definitely going to try this, I've been getting lots of resets and I'm relieved it's not a rom issue

i had issues with my phone turning off too, had it slightly wet at one point so i took it to a phone repair joint, they replaced a few things charged me and it had the same problems afterwards, a test battery proved it was the bloody battery all along!
the tech there let me know our batteries have a soft edge that when pushed up hard against the battery slot it slightly deforms, seems like a bad design if you look at the battery up close you can see one where the edges get pushed in a bit, (well on mine anyway) the test battery i borrowed didn't have the edges pushed in.
Had this problem too. Paper did the trick.

Hello everyone! I have some problem with my Pixel. I was recording a video in 4k and the phone was charging during the recording. Then I found, that there is just 6% of the battery, made it at least 50%, took the phone off the charging and since then I can't charge, turn it on, start into bootloader, because there is no indications at all, just after pressing power and volume down for about 30 seconds, there is some vibration - I don't know what does it means. What can I do?
If the power is off, you should definitely be able to charge. I see a few possibilities:
The charger is bad
The cable is bad
The charging port on the phone is dirty or corroded
The charging port is broken
Hopefully it's not the last one, but try to eliminate the other possibilities. Be careful when trying to clean the port, so you don't damage or scratch anything. I've read at least one person post that they were able to get some goop out, and then their phone charged normally after that.

Everything with the charging is going well, because I'm using the original cable, with charges my second device right now. The charging port was okey, because it was charging while recording video. The cable was plugged in for a few hours, so the phone should be charged. That's why I still have the question: "What's happened to my Pixel?"
Your motherboard could potentially be gone. Here's my story.
I had a Pixel that I loved and adored. It began to have random reboots. I'd be doing something, and the phone would reboot. It happened sporadically, but was a nuisance because when I'm on call at night, my paging app doesn't start in the background after a restart, so I began missing some nighttime pages. Only happened twice, but it's a bit unacceptable in my line of work.
Eventually the reboots happened more frequently, and then one day it wouldn't turn back on. I tried everything and all i would get with long presses of the power button was a blip of a vibration motor. I talked through Google Support who recommended uBreakIFix. I sent the phone to them (after purchasing a used craigslist replacement) and they said a motherboard replacement was needed. Literally everything in the phone was in perfect condition, I had the phone in a protective case with screen cover since day 1 and there was no water damage. They also couldn't get it to power on. The slight vibration you're mentioning is exactly the issue I ran into and a motherboard replacement is 300+ dollars so I had to call it a loss.
Oh, God... But is there any answer about why this happens?

If you look around, this is not an uncommon issue although it’s also not that widespread. I tried to argue with Google that this was a hardware defect that needs to be covered by extended warranty replacement but they wouldn’t have it. I even argued that the random reboots that I first chatted with support about while my device was in warranty were a symptom of the same issue, but they still wouldn’t replace the phone.

Does this happens on the 2nd and 3rd Pixel versions?
I've had my Pixel 2 for a while now and haven't had any unusual behavior. I love my pixel 2.

I had a similar problem, possibly the same. My Pixel 1 rebooted randomly, but pretty rarely, like once every several months. One morning it rebooted and then a few minutes later died for good. Unlike your phone though, pushing power + down-arrow didn't do anything. At the google-recommended repair store, they tried obvious things like changing the battery and nothing worked. They said that the charging cable drew a negligible amount of current, something like 50-80mA if I remember right.
What is "extended warranty replacement"? When I talked to Google, they said that since my phone was 21 months old, they wouldn't do anything for me.

Yeah your mobo is shot and so is mine.
The extended warranty was a $100 add-on when you bought the phone to insure it for 2 years. This is a scam. Any issues you will find on these devices will have occurred and made themselves known within the first 3 months or 3 years after having the phone. Having bought the warranty also means nothing from a customer service point of view as they will refuse to work with you on anything about the phone if it is more than 15 days past warranty expiration even if you have NEVER made a claim and the problem is an obvious hardware defect that you wouldn't ever assume needed to be fixed until it's already too late and your device is no longer functional
So I have the Pixel 128 GB. Had it for two and a half years. The battery is crap. It was typically dying when the percentage got down to the 30s. Now once it gets below 50 percent, all bets are off. At first I thought it was a calibration issue. So I rooted it, in hope I could calibrate using apps. Then I learned that the calibration apps don't really do anything. So I installed AccuBattery, which estimates my battery is only working at 40 percent efficiency. Time for a new battery.
But that's not all. The phone speaker doesn't always work. Restarting would bring it back, for a little while. The headphone connection would drop out. Restarting would help, for a little while. Would also freeze randomly, especially when charging. So I wiped the phone completely, and the freezes, speaker, and headphone problems went away. For a few weeks. Now they are back. Calls are a crapshoot. Restarting helps. My audio or video files won't play. Restarting helps. My phone won't recognize when headphones are plugged in. Restarting WON'T help. And still the random freezes, especially when charging.
My belief is that a defective battery is the main culprit, and replacing the battery will fix all those problems. As it's extremely easy to crack the LCD screen when removing the cover, I'd rather pay to have the battery replaced. Found a place nearby that is a Google certified repair shop. $80 to replace the battery. Even if they crack the screen, they'll replace it at no cost. So I've thought this is the way to go.
But my wife is worried the problem is more than the battery, and replacing the battery will give me a messed up phone with a new battery. We have the Total Mobile Protection, and I wonder if it would be better to just pay the replacement deductible of $149.
Any suggestions? Anyone have a phone replaced through Asurion (Verizon's insurance provider)? What was the experience like? What quality was the replacement phone? Would it be the exact same model?

I don't know if you are on pie or what, but after flashing pie I had extreme battery issues. Off-mode charging refuses to charge past 66%, and upon boot it goes crazy from 33%-~70%. After flashing back to oreo, all my battery problems disappeared. Even flashing nougat fixed my microphone issues as well. Sometimes I wonder if it's just a coincidence that the latest firmware on this aging device causes so many issues. Almost as if google wants us to buy the newest device to fix artificial issues.

I went to a local repair shop that can replace my Google Pixel 2 battery. Since the battery got worse after 1 and a half year I decided to let it replace it.
So after it got replaced I noticed some weird issues and I don't know what I should do now.:

First issue, somehow the sim tray is broken and it felt stuck. It doesn't pop out anymore and now I broke it and the SIM card is still there (does work btw).
The second issue is that the phone gets hot for no reason with some use with mobile data. It gets hot in the upper area of the phone right next to the sim card and in where the fingerprint sensor is.
Also around the top of the camera area.
I mean it wasn't like that before. It could get hot when I was playing games but NEVER when I was with mobile data on twitter for a few minutes. Now after I watched a 5 minutes video, damn it got a bit warm/hot (tendency more to hot).
The third issue is that the phone doesn't charge when it's completely turned off! There is the charging animation but the juice doesn't get up high (It remains where it got charged). Only when I turn the phone on it will charge normally.
Just what happened? Its a fresh new original battery? I don't want to go to the repair shop again just to get charged with more money and other issues.
Anyone any advice or just buy a new phone?

I soon after got my phone and everything was lovely I had a screen protector ready for it and a good case to protect it from any falls or any damaged. I've had the phone since the phone released and now my phone is refusing to hold a charge.. It seems to be stuck at 50% but dies as soon as I take it off the charger. At one point I was able to make it actually charged the battery from 0 to 100 if I squeezed the bottom G portion of the back of the phone. That seems to have stopped working now.. now my phone even on the charger is literally at 0%, and the only thing keeping it alive is a charger itself. As soon as I take it off it will turn off randomly but when I plug it into the charger in powered off , it will show a battery with a ? Within it. My phone is under the one year manufacturers warranty and Google advise me that I could take it into uBreakiFix to get it fixed.. mind you, the place is almost 60 miles away from me. I have never dropped my phone it's been in a case and the screen is a virgin screen because I've had a screen protector on it since the moment I opened the box..
This kind of reminds me of the Nexus 6P shutting off at 30 to 40% because of a faulty battery..
I've googled around for solutions and apparently this is a known issue in Google tracker and apparently it is a hardware issue with a flex cable that comes out of the battery... Not only does the battery have a negative and a positive terminal it also has a data terminal that reports battery health battery temperature battery voltage and anything having to do with the battery. Well apparently the soldering in that part of the cable is faulty and cracks according to them due to dropping the phone or damaging it but again mind you I've never dropped my phone it's been in the case since day one..
I've taken really good care of my device like I'm pretty sure a lot of you have...

I would push for in advanced RMA. Be civil and respectful but also set boundaries, like the fact that a 60 mi trip is absolutely insane for a product that is under warranty and is experiencing a manufacturing defect. If you're getting nowhere with the current rep, ask to escalate the case to a manager and proceed to plead your case. They should do it, I don't see why they wouldn't under your scenario as you tell it. Good luck.
I've had my Oh So Orange Pixel 4 XL since probably the same time as yours and no battery charge and usage issues here. You're within the one year warranty so I would go for a replacement.

I've had this problem. I took it to ubreakifix to have it repaired. No problems since.
The service I received at ubreakifix was subpart today the least.
Google will also let you send the phone in for repair. You would just have to wait.
Fyi I had to take my phone in to ubreakifix they didn't have parts, then wait for parts to come in. Then their online tracking said the phone was done and when I came in had to wait an hour for it to actually be repaired.
If they are that far away save yourself a headache and just send it in to Google.

I had replaced my Nexus 5X twice with Google and both times they send you a phone and THEN you send back the old one. The only wait time was receiving the working phone which was no more than 2 days.

Here is what happens. See the picture of the Pixel I just had fixed. And why pressing on the G on the back glass helps.
Look at the new battery on the ground under the phone. Notice the gold connector. Then look at the used battery in the air. The connector comes off the battery.
In my case, the connector was stuck in the board, and the main board needed replacing. Thankfully google approved it.
I honestly feel like that with time this will start beginning to happen on a lot of pixel 4 xls

I think that only works if you bought directly from Google or Fi. 3rd party, i.e. Verizon, BB purchases do not have advance replacement. You can't even put a credit card hold on a device to get AR if you didn't buy it from them.

You could be right. My last 3 Google phones were all through Google Store so wouldn't know how replacements are through retail stores.

WeBreakUpay sucks. They changed a battery in my 2XL and the camera stopped working a few days later. They said it wasn't their fault. They charged me for it. So I bought a 4XL and vowed never to set foot in there. Send it back to Google. Hopefully you have a backup.
