I must say everybody here complain too much..
I have O3D and till now the only thing that really sucked was that LG didn't
supply Gingerbread in time!
My advice is to root your device and install some RAM manager (like 'AutoKiller Memory Optimizer' and set to "Ultimate" preset).
With the device superb memory processing your device will work better than any device I've seen (and I have Galaxy-S2 also that run not as smooth as my O3D).
Hope it will help someone..
Thanks for the advice, will give it a try.

Seriously...s2 doesn't run as smooth? It has twice the ram and a faster cpu / gpu so it should beat optimus 3D.

Hey Dave,
The fact that S2 have twice the RAM (can have even much more) doesn't metter and the cpu is almost the same, even LG have 'texas instruments' hardware which is very high quality if you familiar.
As long as you have enough free RAM (for this you need only the kind of Memory optimizer app as 'AutoKiller Memory Optimizer') your device run's better than S2. it's a fact, try and see
thanks

I would highly recommend against doing that. Most RAM managers simply kill processes until the set amount of memory is free - pretty much preventing all multitasking. Most apps are cached when exited, so they can be quickly switched to later, they usually don't use any battery. Android will close most unnecessary apps by itself if more RAM is required.

Imo, the SGS2 is much smoother than the O3D. Pretty much all games run well on it, while some games such as GTA3 (Full effects enabled + Max view distance) and dungeon defenders don't run that well on the O3d. GPU Overclocking is also possible on the SGS2, but not possible on the O3D - Even if it were, i doubt the already overclocked sgx540 (200 stock > 300mhz) can be oc'd as much as the Mali 400.
The SGS2 is also much more optimized than the O3D - Touchwiz is mostly smooth, even with a Live wallpaper, while the stock LG Launcher seems to be laggy. The camera also doesnt take ages to start up.
Also, im pretty sure most complaints are about battery life. My O3D only lasts around 1-3 hours with screen on - even worse than the DHD.
What are we complaining about?
Battery life
lousy Support from LG
I am still officially waiting in Australia for the gingerbread update
my phone under froyo 10k-j restarted over 20 times a day
under Gingerbread I missed out on phone calls and sms
and the list goes on.....
so please don't go around lecturing us as ungrateful to LG for this wonderful phone that I paid $800 for.
I have switched 2 month ago back to my Iphone 4 as my main phone,
only because of the good Devs at Cyanogen I am now wanting to use the phone more and I am going to make it my main phone again.
LG makes good hardware but the software side of things really sux.
and regarding your recommendation to use task killers to free ram tells me a lot how much you know about android 2.2 and above.

Hi All,
I think you guy's took it much more personally than I meant..
It's just an advice that you can use or choose not to use.
I had some issues with the device speed and after a while I found what I think to be the best setup for the device and I shared my opinion:
1) upgrade to gingerbread (V21a).
2) Root your device.
3) Install 'AutoKiller Memory Optimizer' and set to "Ultimate" preset.
Ever since I did it my O3D work great. and with no offence to big fans of S2 but I think it operate even better since.
Thanks
Howdy everyone,
i happened to come across an app on the market called CPU Gauge and this demonstrates to you exactly what each core on your phone is doing at all times, even in your notification bar at all times. Now i have noticed no matter what i do there only ever seems to be 1 core running which is pretty pants i reckon. how can i enable it to run dual cores all of the time? i dont understand it personally, why have a dual channel architecture if its hardly ever used? and surely it having to decide whether to use one core over two and to send data down both channels or just the one is probably a reason why we get lag? i am probably completely wrong but id rather the cpus always be on and drain battery if it improves overall performance

Though a mod will move this thread please post questions in the general section this is for development purposes only..
But if what you say is true i will have to look into this. What rom are you currently running?
Just a rooted/overclocked LG stock gingerbread rom.
For me it shows 2 Cores working ,but second is ON only when needed (as it should be) So its OK. Lags are because of poor ram managment on LG software, I recommend Rushdroid ROM.
What I know, Android 2.3 and below does not provide a support for multi cores. However, ICS does support it. So, I think the phone will run much better when the ICS update comes.

nope. thasts only an urban legend But it can improve performance at some points, but I would be rather sceptic. Custom roms must be always better (what they are doing making software, making it slower on purpose? go Samsung way and hire cm team members)
In games it uses both cores but im dissapointed that when testing swapping between different apps and web browsing seemed to all be using just the one core, and that was with lags inbetween swapping from for instance gallery to browser. I love this phone great specs but it annoys me more and more to think LG really did have no clue when it came down to putting it all into action. is there any way to have 2 cores on at all times or atleast change the values that decide when to use second core/channel.
If anything it makes for an interesting discussion

It has a partial support, not 100%, and the proof is that all dual core phones which received ICD update, got a huge improvement in the performance, as their users said.

The processor works as it should be, all cores when needed. Check System Panel app. Ram is the issue here. On stock it will be always laggy. On rushdroid and samba there is good ram management. Almost 250mb for the user. On stock i doubt if there is 130mb free available.
@up: there is no evidence that GB supports 1 core only and ICS multiple cores. A better performance on ICS can be due to the bigger optimizations, and hw support (that can be buggy) like gpu enabled scrolling etc.
But Ive heard that ics supports fully multicores, and that is an urban legend for me (no evidence) Ics can be just more optimized than gingerbread (and more like honeycomb which was quite fast)

you are correct cores are working as they should be not a problem here at... Gingerbread supports multicore and does use the cpu to the max when needed, you don't need to run both your cores all the time if that was the case you would need to charge your phone every 3 hours....
The issue with our optimus 3d is it needs ram tweaks to keep it smooth, 512mb ram is good i am not complaining because it's dual channel and so on so the ram speed is amazing just to free up ram we have tweaks...
Also the cpu is used to the max when needed, when you make a call you do not need both cores working at the same time that would be pointless. But when you play games, browse the net and bench your device all cores are used at the same time...
if you want to try it (see the difference) with both cores enabled ,(and cpu speed at max) try system tuner app , in cpu setting put governor to "performance" the first core will go to max speed , then go to active tweak and there is an option to force all cpu on , try it , it will be hard for the battery... when you put governor back to hotplug , the second core will return on demand (on/off) . if you want to do it again after you have to redo all step and turn the force all cpu on off and on again...
i'm on v21D on rushdroid 3.6.3. Both cores show up as working. 1 core ususally hits 1.4ghz and 2nd one upto 1ghz during regular processing. Great app btw tnx for letting us know

Its not neccessary to use dual core all the times ,using dual core for small task degrade the performance that increasing. Since our phone have dual memory the cache plays an important role in deciding which core should be used.
If you've used Android 4.1 or later on a phone or tablet with 1GB of RAM, you know things can get a little tight in the memory department. That's what makes newer and slightly underpowered devices like the Lenovo Yoga a little disappointing. Google has decided to trim the fat with Android 4.4 in an initiative they've christened "Project Svelte." This isn't a single change, it's a wide range of additions to the Android API and optional hardware configurations designed to make KitKat run smoothly on devices with as little as 512MB of system memory.
According to the new 4.4 developer page, Project Svelte starts with recommendations and options targeted at device manufacturers. Specifically:
Dalvik JIT code cache tuning
kernel samepage merging (KSM)
swap to zRAM
tune out-of-memory levels for processes
set graphics cache sizes
control memory reclaim
When it comes to pure software, core processes have been trimmed to use less memory and protect system memory from hungry apps. Android will also launch concurrent services in sequence instead of all at once to prevent slowdown. Imagine it as cleaning out the Startup folder in Windows, except that it's all happening behind the scenes. Developers also have access to the new ActivityManager.isLowRamDevice API, allowing memory-hogging features to be enabled and disabled as needed. Google will be integrating this feature into its own first-party apps, so even those with more powerful hardware should see at least some benefit.
Project Svelte isn't going to magically make older devices compatible with 4.4 - even Google's own Galaxy Nexus (with 1GB of RAM) isn't getting an official update, likely because of the aging OMAP SoC. But this will hopefully help devices like the original Nexus 7 and Nexus 4, not to mention upcoming low-end phones that will launch with 4.4, to better handle resources as apps become more hardware intensive.
Not happening man lol

You shouldn't expect anything from LG, and now that almost all the Devs have given up on the g2x, I too have realized that there is no hope for the g2x.
But although this phone got screwed pretty bad, if it wasn't for this phone I would have never known about the xda community and the joy of rooting, and for that I am grateful.

Same here, Knotes. If it wasn't for stock 2.3.4 gingerbread driving me insane with its lag, inconsistency and overall weak performance I would have never stumbled upon XDA and have rooted my phone to make it a somewhat halfway decent device (thanks to the amazing devs we've had) lol.
Sadly, I don't use my G2X anymore, I've gone back to using my Nokia E73/Mode Blackberry clone semi-smart phone which uses the obsolete Symbian OS, doesn't have a touch screen, has a real keypad, and does what I need adequately such as Skype, GPS with maps (I recently used it in Italy for a month), Wifi and phone calls. It has great battery life, very good audio quality, great cell radio range, easily fits in my pocket, is extremely well made and durable ( it fell from the roof on top of the 3rd floor of my house, while I was trimming tree branches, onto a concrete sidewalk and bounced into some bushes and only had a few scratches on the bezel at the top left corner. I do use a currently cheapest available Asus Android 7" tablet, that cost $150 new and runs Android 4.2.2 and it has had 3 updates since I bought it 2 months ago. It gets used when I need an app that runs on Android and to surf the net. I will never buy a new Android phone again and definitely not an LG at all, even used, because of what happened to the G2X.
No no and no g2x is dead period

Build a new CM11 ROM
Hi there !!! What if someone could actually build one Rom for p999 .... Even Huawei y201 Pro that is working on 512 MB ram has a CM11 based kitkat 4.4.2 rom available. It would be great if someone comes out and do this.:good:
It can be done but nobody can figure out the radio issue so it would be WiFi only. That is what killed this phone.
ROM for P999
Hi !!! This looks real sad. I am using CM 10.1 based on Jellybean 4.1.1 and it looks stable enough and so does the WIFI. Is there any newer version than this that is more stable? I checked the All ROMS thread but the newer ones are all buggy

No that's pretty much it. There's a trick you can do to flash p990 roms, I'm not sure how much development they have going on over there. I actually don't have this phone anymore but if you use one of their nvflash utilities you basically can repartition your phone like theirs except for the radio which doesn't work anyway. If you're up for it there's been a few people who have done it. I make no guarantees. Godspeed.
Thanks For the heads up !!! I will head to the Optimus 2x section and see what i can find there ....

I ordered this exact tablet last week and it just came in the mail. It's an impressive piece of hardware with very little bloatware out of the box, but Jellybean takes up a lot of RAM by default (1/2 is being used just by the thing being turned on). I'd like to figure out the best method to root it at least, though my ideal goal is to put a ROM of an earlier release of the Android OS on it, I'm quite partial to Gingerbread to be entirely honest since it tends to use a lot less RAM and CPU power to run on similar hardware I've used before.
EDIT: Hopefully someone with actual experience can look into rooting this tablet, I tried using some typical "generic Android tablet root" techniques and nothing is working.
How to root Hannspree Quad Core 10.1" Model SN1AT71BUE
Hi. Could anyone tell me how to root Hannspree Quad Core 10.1" Model SN1AT71BUE ? I just bought it for several days. I got kinda suckered into buying one of you too. They were so cheap so I figured why not. My main complaints are that the operating system seems to be the part that's making it so laggy. When it's actually performing a task it works fairly well. I use NHL GameCenter and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the streaming for work. SwiftKey keyboard is really laggy and unusable entirely. Also, Chrome seems to be impossible to use because of the lag. Other than that though everything else seems to run fairly smooth so I think it's more of an operating system issue than power issue. The battery is good it sounds good the screen is OK touch screen works...but if I can't use chrome or watch NHL games,I might have to return it.

Tablet seems to perform fairly well in games but is laggy at times on web surfing. As the previous poster noted Chrome is almost unusable it is so laggy. Video apps seem to perform well after they load up. If an item is being downloaded in the background tablet is very laggy. I tend to agree with the previous poster that the main problem is the operating system. Maybe an update to 4.3 will come soon and improve performance.

Yeah I noticed the background downloading slowing it to a crawl. I think that's an issue with the kernel or memory read speed. There are some tweaks that we will be able to do once a working recovery is available that will fix that. Network speed too. I speed checked it and im getting 35mbs so the issue isn't the WiFi unit itself, its just software. I'm hoping somebody will make a nice custom ROM for us

nothing out yet...it's just the os on it that sucks...just upgraded to 4.2.2 and it even slower...once theres a rom it will eliminate all the bloat in it...just hold on to it and wait...you will not get a quad core for that price...
Its a really terrible a5 based quad-core.. A dual core a9 would run circles around it. There isn't really any bloat in the rom, they didn't do much of anything to it. No custom rom is gonna upgrade the cpu or craptastic generic gpu. If you can return it, go do that. If you can't, I'm sorry, but it's never going to respond like an a9. It sucks that actions is full of lies, and Hannspree bought them, and retailers don't care what they are selling you.

I'm currently using DirtyUnicorn ROM on my 16GB Shield (Wifi) model. I only use this ROM because of how stable and smooth it is.
I've never used the original factory ROM by Nvidia but as the recent Nougat release, I'm thinking of moving to Nouagt Original ROM. So I want to ask you guys who are using the 5.0/5.1 update on Shield Tab.
How have your experience been so far? Is it running smoothly for a light use (no gaming just media stuff)
How's the battery life compared to Marshmallow? Is it better than Xposed with Greenify+Amplify?
and above all, is there any Nvidia bloatware on original ROM and do they affect battery life?

I'll say this, I haven't rooted my k1 just yet because the dev support isn't quite want I'm used too. Before the android 7 updates I was beginning to regret my purchase (I've only had this thing maybe a month) but can now say I genuinely enjoy using my k1. I also don't game a whole lot. When I do game it's things like adventure capitalist and I can get a solid 3 1\2 hours sot. Sometimes 5 hours with no gaming. Also I never go above ~%60 screen brightness, that makes a sizable difference
I'm using 5.1 update on the Shield K1 tablet. First of all, if you're moving to Nougat, don't get the 5.0. That version has got many crashing issues and Nvidia have to withdraw the release, and they came back with 5.1.
So far, 5.1 is the smoothest stock rom on Shield tablet I've ever used. (I never root nor use any custom roms on my tablet). Android 7.0 has improved a lot. Even though you can't see directly on the surface, there are many improvements underneath (ask Google if you want to know what are those improvements).
For me, yes, it worth to move to Nougat. I'm not aware of any bloatware that hog the system. But it's always good to uninstall or disable any apps that you're not going to use.
I love the 5.1 update I have set the power plan to battery saver, and have brightness low, I gamed a lot especially GeForce now and half life 2 and borderlands 2 I get 5 hours screen on time also watching man UTD game also
Also I have set up apps I use a lot outside of games to be using 50 percent of cpu and it works fantastically
