Question Galaxy s21 (SM-G991B/DS) is slow(lagging) and the screen is flickering. How to fix it? - Samsung Galaxy S21+

-There were a few updates in the last few months that fixed the slowness of the phone, but it seems the recent update did 'break' something and the phone is slow now (lagging) again.
-In other words, whatever I do almost on any app, it stutters or works sluggishly. Even google maps freezes or works in a non-responsive way. It feels like very first Galaxies..
-Also, the screen is flickering when it's super bright or sunny outside. (I already tried to disable adaptive brightness). Nothing did change.
Here is the info about the phone.

What would you suggest fixing the above problems?Because I'm considering switching to another brand if those issues persist. I have been having similar issues almost with every update...

a hard reset might help?

My S21+ also started flickering since the last update in Bright sunlight. It's almost as if the screen keeps going yellow - white - yellow - white even with auto brightness off and adaptive colors and such all disabled.

I fixed the flickering at least. Go to apps, select device health services, storage, bottom left manage storage, clear all data. That resets auto brightness levels and fixed the flickering for me in direct sunlight.

I did the same now. Will try in the sun next time.
Also, I noticed the phone works slightly faster?
Interesting. Thank you!

Screen automatic dimming

Hi guys, using my Nexus 5 I noticed the brightness was very inconsistent, even with auto brightness turned off the screen seems to dim occasionally and then go back to full brightness during use.
Have you noticed it too, and is there any way to stop it from happening? I would really like to be able to enjoy the beautiful screen at full brightness without it going dim randomly, thanks.

Yes I noticed it too, but don't know if it is a software bug or a feature to prevent from overheating (like Samsung devices do) or a hardware problem. It is quite annoying!

auto-brightness is terrible [SOLVED]

Way too bright. Never remembers my preferences. Every time I turn in the screen, even in a dark room, brightness us 50%. I'm constantly turning it down but it goes back up.
How can I fix this? I refuse to believe my only option is a third party brightness app.
-EDIT- Here's the solve:
Just go to apps>settings>applications>application manager>more>reset apps preferences. This clears out any personalized brightness settings. This worked immediately.
Well turn auto brightness off.

You know that's not a solution...
Yes that is, you set the brightness the level you want, manually.

No. I want auto brightness to adjust to the ambient light. That's the point of auto brightness. 50% brightness in a movie theatre means something isn't working right. And the S7 auto brightness is supposed to be personalized to the user but obviously this isn't working either.
Mine is working just fine in any ambient, I don't know what settings you mess up with.

I don't know! users are prone to do such a thing when they mess up with their phone.
Make a backup, reset your phone and try again. Mine still works just fine.
alright, smart alecs. Just talked to Samsung Support. Just simply go to apps>settings>applications>application manager>more>reset apps preferences. This seemed to fix it. The tech said sometimes carrier updates can corrupt settings. So that's neat...

How do you mess up with app manager?
Installing stuff on your smartphone!
So...
Users are prone to do this. Again mine and everybody's else are working just fine.

Every time you install an app on your phone they change something. Some times are nothing important, other times they mess with the whole system settings.
Glad your settings are working now.
Actually i had the same problem when i got the phone, did a bit of search n found it has a smart brightness feature.
You have to choose ur brightness level according to the ambient light in the room cuz it remembers each time you set the brightness level according how much light the sensor is picking.
Short answer, keep changing the level of brightness for couple days until it learns the new levels.

Ya I did all of that and it wasn't adjusting to my preferences. That's was the problem. Resetting as described fixed it as it relearned my preferences

When I'm outdoor in extreme sunlight the phone's brightness goes all the way up and then it enters a mode where colours seems washed out. But only if the light is very strong. Does your S7 behave the same?
I may have to give that app settings reset a try. At first the auto function seemed fine. As time passed it grew worse. However, mine would be too dark in dimly lit situations and semi-acceptable in bright conditions. I finally turned off automatic as it was extremely annoying and almost always incorrect.

Yes. That's a special boost mode I think. Without it the screen wouldn't get bright enough to see well.

anyone got such screen brightness problem on mix2s?

I just received my mix2s last weekend, and I have been using it for several days.
But through these days, I find it that when you turned off the automatic brightness, and the phone is displaying some dark or black contents, the brightness will get lower by itself, but when you turn to some colorful or brighter contents, the btightness will get back to normal itself.
so I'm wondering is there anyone got the same problem like me? and how can I turn it off? I mean, just don't turn down the brightness itself when showing dark contents.
Just checked it on my phone and you are right, screen becomes darker when you display dark content. Also with auto brightness disabled. Maybe it has something to do with the automatic contrast settings
Edit: I was right, if you disable automatic contrast the brightness stays like you set it

can you tell me where is the "automatic contrast" settings? seems that miui just deleted it
It seems to be a problem since the last mix 2. you can try search on google and on this forum.
There are few fixes you can do, just go over the search. I didn't do it myself because I just manually adjust the brightness myself. It is pretty annoying though.

Maybe with a third party app that changes the contrast? You would need root privileges for an app like this I think...

Thank you I could not figure out what was causing this on my phone. When watching Youtube on lowest brightness at night the screen would fluctuate and it drives me crazy. Did not know that had something to do with it but now I know.
This is an old thread, but it's high on Google rankings, so I'm adding to it.
I think my main annoyance with this is the position of the sensor. If I'm typing or scrolling with my thumb, it seems I'm covering the sensor with my hand, so it thinks it's gone dark, so decreases brightness.
Disabling the auto brightness fixed it for me
(Using Resurrection Remix)

Display is slightly blinking in specific conditions

Yesterday i noticed something strange in my OP7p and i'd like you to check whether something like this occurs in your phones. Issue, which i will describe occurs only when i have 90hz refresh rate set and the low brightness of the screen with the auto adjustment of brightness turned off. The easiest way to see that is on youtube application with a dark theme. When we start a movie on the full screen (horizontally) and watch it for a few seconds, then go back to the vertical position, there is something like weak but visible blink of the screen, or a minimal colours change. It can be noticed in other apps, e.g. on facebook. Seems to me this is a software problem, beacause the same phenomenon doesn't exists when we set 60hz refresh. I would be very grateful if you can check it on your phones and give me a know about it.
I don't usually start videos in full screen mode and never noticed it but yeah definitely does a white flicker.
This is the highest brightness I could get it to do the flicker at.
Thank you for an answer. Personally i am able to see this flicker on a little bit higher screen brightness, but maybe its because im sitting in a dark room now. I was worried cause sometimes i see it during the normal usage of phone, and if only my OnePlus would be affected by this flickering i could still return it or exchange for a new one. It isnt very disturbing however interesting is whats cause of it.

this is usual for EVERY Oled screen and is called jelly effect...
You might want to try the DC dimming option in Settings->Utilities->OnePlus Laboratory.

From what i know jelly effect appears while we scrolling some content and propably that's not what i meant in my first post. Also flicker in my case is only visible on 90hz refresh rate.
I have galaxy s7e as a second phone and that effect doesn't happen there.

Question S22 ULTRA- GREEN SCREEN WITH BLACK BACKGROUND

MY S22 ULTRA, 5 months old, began 48 hours ago to show the background of the lock screen (active display with a black background, in a very oscillating dark green color.
It only happens when the active display is activated, and sometimes inside with a dark background when it tries to adapt the brightness to the environment, it occurs as a kind of almost imperceptible flickering.
Internally the navigation, videos, photos and others are all perfect.
Things I have already tried:
Wipe Cache
Toggle between all screen resolutions and display options etc etc
With the mobile turned off while charging, if I press the power button to see the percentage of charge, that green is also seen.
I was reading that it may be a screen failure, but I still refuse to leave the phone in repair (150GB of internal information already copied), I don't know whether to wait for an update or what else to try.
Any suggestion?
Sorry for my english
I don't have answers for your issue, but I had exactly the same issue. I damaged my screen and it started appearing right after the damage to the screen. I don't use AOD, but mine did the same thing when it was put on charge.... no black screen, just the weird green. I turned off adaptive display and it disappeared. Had 2 updates since then and put back adaptive display and now the green is still gone. Not sure if was an update or the adaptive display change that fixed the issue

Can it get worse or will it always stay like this?
I just replaced the screen protector and it's still the same sometimes, not always, it seems to improve things but it only appears if I force the situation with dark environments.
How do you explain if it was a screen problem, within the android there is no display problem in photos, videos etc etc
It only affects the active display and while the adaptive display is active, that's why I don't want to send it to warranty so soon, I even hope that with Android 13 it will be solved!
To those who had to change the screen, did it come under warranty and the fault has been recognized without having to pay anything?
Obviously, if it were the screen, it would have to be some sensor or sector of the screen that only acts under certain conditions and I don't know at the hardware level what it could be, if any sensor or sector of the screen is internally damaged, it is very strange.
Thanks for answering.

It was everything free, they replace the display circuit controler, the display and battery (mandatory on note 8 if you replace the display they replace also the battery).
The problem was stable, no true black, allways greenish, sometimes flick and turned true black for couple of seconds and returned to that greenish black. Was horrible, my luck was i had 24 months of warrany and this happend on my 22th month!
Hi, I have same problem for 2 weeks now. Seems to occur when in low light placed and adaptive brightness is on. Did you find solution?
