Question Got my S22 Ultra on Monday - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

I decided to upgrade the family to the S22. I got the S22 Ultra, my wife the S22+, and my daughter the S22.
The Ultra and plus got here Monday and my daughter's S22 today.
We upgraded from the Note 10+ 5G, S10+, and S10 respectively.
So far, I'm loving it. No issues with reception, data or WiFi. Although, BT was acting sketchy, but I think it was Apple Music, which I uninstalled. Apple Music still sucks, btw.
The fingerprint sensor is much more responsive and reliable than my Note 10+.
After almost a week of use, I'm getting good battery life.
The only thing I still have to get used to is the buttons and S pen are on the opposite side than the Note 10+.
The Galaxy Note is dead! Long love the Galaxy Note!

may it serve us well for many many moons

You'll never get used to that, I know I didn't when I had the Note 20 U.

By the way. I figured out the BT problem with my car. My Galaxy Wach 4 is interfering with my car's BT connection. Whenever my phone is connected to my watch while in the car, the BT connection between my car and phone doesn't work.
Samsung pushed an update to my watch recently and I think that is what is causing the issue.
I'll have to play with my watch some more to see what settings will work.
Otherwise, after a week, I am loving my S22 Ultra.

Note 5 or S7 Edge?

Hey guys, been a long time XDA user, looking for input. I have never owned a Samsung device so I am completely new here. I came from a LG G4 that I loved it but wireless charging just melts down after 30-60 days and starts refusing to charge wirelessly. After 6 replacements I am here. My last one also had wireless connection issues.
The S7 Edge looked to be the best 1-to-1 match with screen size/features so thats what I had my mind on. Verizon recommended we swap for a different device and offered me a Note 5 64gb (because of no SD storage). So the Note 5 should be here in a few days.
BUT my mind was focused on the S7 Edge so I just went out and bought a S7 Edge on impulse, full price (thinking I would sell the Note 5 to recoop my money).
After seeing and playing with both, now I am kind of torn. The rounded edges actually feel nice to scroll off of. I think the edge apps have already lost my interest. I used to use "Side Bar" as a quick launcher and eventually just stopped using it.
Being new to Samsung, I semi know about the SPen and some of its features. The Note 5 is also the same width as my G4, so size isn't a factor here. In fact because of the rounded edges, the S7 Edge feels narrower/smaller than my LG G4.
Is there really anything the Note 5 can't do that the S7 Edge can? Not really concerned with waterproof or SD card. How is the Note 5 processor? The SD820 is probably a little faster but both are plenty fast IMO.
I'd be interested in hearing any FORs and AGAINSTs. I can keep either device right now, what would you choose?

I ended up going with the S7 Edge because of the faster processor, better low light shots with the camera and larger battery. Surprisingly I like the curved screen witch is something I thought I wouldn't. The two phones are top notch so you can't really go wrong with either. My wife has my Note 5 because I really don't want to let it go and she likes it so it makes little sense to get rid of it. The S-Pen isn't of much use for me but I do like the larger screen and excellent camera. Depending on what the Note 6 turns out to be I might go with that but for now it's the edge for me.
Yeah for me it really boils down to pen and screen. I am kind of leaning toward keeping the Note 5 and returning the 7E. I just didn't know if I would lose any software features like themes or something.
I am finding my palms are also tapping the screen and doing stuff with the S7E when I am typing or browsing. I have a hard time holding it without the screen going crazy. I just switched hands and it posted this and opened my Messenger chat head. Lol.
to me expandable storage is big. I have Note 5, i am waiting for Note 6 with expandable storage to get. I would say the s-pen is good but not a big deal. I do like taking notes with s-pen.
Unless s-pen is a must, i think sd card and water resistant is big deal for everyday use.
32gb has always been fine for a mobile. I complained about no SD storage though, which is why they gave me the 64gb version.
The waterproofing is cool but I don't plan on having it in water. Underwater pics are cool though. I have a hauwei watch for pool fun.

Themes will still be there, the only things you lose are the S-Pen related apps. I see what you mean about the accidental screen taps. I haven't used a case in a couple of days and it's pretty annoying especially when I'm trying to take a picture and open up the gallery. I had to return my Otterbox commuter because it kept ripping off my Zagg screen protectors. Hopefully my new case will be better when I get it tomorrow. It sounds like the Note is a better choice for you. I can always switch with my wife if I want.
I just wanted to chime in about picking between the note 5 and s7 edge. When I bought the note 5 last year, I had to live with no sd card and no removable battery. I can fast charge wireless and hard line as well. I don't really use the s pen as much as before. My previous phone, the note 3 i did. I dunno really, cause my wants and needs are different than everyone else. It some time for me to actually LOVE my new note 5, because I was used to having sdcard/removable battery on the note 3. The build quality is very nice on both phones. All metal, beautiful glass and both have marshnallow. My brother actually has a s7, he just got it a few ago and I bought my note 5 last year November.
I used to be a flash aholic on the note 3. We had recovery, roms and root. So after 2 years of being spoiled, I had to finally let go and move from that kind of want or need. Does that make sense? I realzied that I had give up the flashing game, because of the devices getting more difficult to Root. Specificllay Verizon and the Note series phones. So I when it was time to upgrade last year, I gave up the note 3, decided that I can live with the no sd card and non removable battery and said hello to pure awesome sexiness design of the note 5.
Nowadays, I dont find myself waiting on roms to be dropped. Constantly pressing f5 f5 f5 f5 and refresh to see when it dropped. But that was my choice. No more living with compromises, because a rom worked with this app and sor of didnt work with there other apps. If the s7 edge is constantly on your mind and boggling your curisoity, why not get one? From the few days I was able to play with my brother's s7. It feels nice in the hand, Smooth nice edges, good low light camera fast and snappy processor makes it smooth to operate.
Since I gave up on flashing roms, I just wanted a phone that I can use social media, so I can keep contact with my girlfriend. Facebook, instragram, snapchat, twitter, facebook messnger and facebook videocat oh and make phone calls/send text messages to her as well. I found that my note 5 can do these things with no problem what so ever. Well, sorry for being so long and best of luck on picking between the note 5 and s7 edge.
Yea I am thinking of keeping the note5 and returning the 7E. Memory and waterproofing aren't important to me. The Edge is starting to drive me crazy because you can't hold on to it without touching the edge screen. This causes other inputs to be unresponsive.

I might be returning mine too and go back to the Note 5. I got my new case today and this one is screwing with my screen protector too. This is my 2nd edge and never had this much screen protector problems on the many phones I have had. Totally frustrating. With that said I think you are better off with your Note 5...
I owned a LG G2x that had a curved screen like the Edge7 and remember that the screen protector issue was a big one. I stopped using screen protectors years ago though. With the Edge7 I would be cautious but I never planned on using a SP.

Do I like it or not?

Hate to say it because of all the hype surrounding the release of the Note 7 but this phone is not impressing me so far. Sure the waterproofing and edge screen is pretty nice but besides that what do we have above and beyond the Note 5 or even the Note 4? The 7 seems a bit heavier, the edge screen is much easier to damage in the event of a screen down drop, battery life is terrible compared to the Note 4 I'm coming from, Bluetooth connections are not reliable at all with any player I have, speaker sound is not the greatest, and I find the touch screen to be not sensitive enough to the point I have to double and sometimes triple press the screen to select something. Really trying to like it but I don't know?
On the other hand, my wife got the S7 Edge and side by side there's not a huge difference in screen size. Also, her phone is much more responsive to touch input, no Bluetooth issues, bigger battery, and at the moment $150 cheaper than the Note 7 (2 year deal @ Best Buy). I'm contemplating a return to get the S7 Edge and put some cash in my pocket or returning it to wait for the new iphone 7 coming out in a few weeks? Or better yet reactivating my Note 4 which felt pretty good in my hand today when I fished it out of the drawer.
Just felt the need to post my concerns with this new wonder phone and see if anyone else is having second thoughts about their purchase?
I agree. The screen sensitivity is a real issue. Always accidentally selecting stuff when swiping and other times it's hard to select things.

I agree 100%
The blutooth issue is my biggest dislike with the phone. I'm giving Samsung/Sprint 14 days to hopefully push out an update to fix some of these problems otherwise it's gonna be the Galaxy S7 Edge for me.

I just returned from Best Buy with my old Note 4 re-activated and I seem happier now. It was tough not getting the S7 edge with the $199.00 deal BB has right now along with free gear watch or sd card but I'm going to hold out for the new iphone 7 and see what apple brings to the table before I decide.

Each person has his/her own experience. At launch, it is tough to say what issues will last and what won't. The note7 has been great for me, and I'm not experiencing any of the lag, touch screen, bluetooth, or battery issues I've heard others complain of. If you can be happier with a cheaper phone, though, I always say, go for it!

Same for me, its been fine for the most part. I didnt like the keyboard so downloaded google keyboard and that fixed typing problems. BT I've only used my headphones with no issue. Battery has been better that my note 4.
I use Nova launcher, package disabler, google keyboard and SD maid to keep it clean. So far its been good. I put animations at .5 from 1 and turned on force 2D GPU.
For me, battery life has been great and I've had no issues with bluetooth after 5 days of use (so far I've only connected my LG Tone to bluetooth). I'm coming from a Note 3, as opposed to most of you probably coming from a Note 4. I normally would've upgraded to the Note 5 following a 2 year pattern, but didn't for many reasons. It was an internal struggle for me to pull the trigger on the Note 7, but ultimately I couldn't resist. If my current phone was a Note 4 I probably would've waited for the Note 8 2017. At least Micro SD is back with the Note 7. And I'm surprisingly impressed with battery life, although I'm still very skeptical about it's longevity. I would've easily paid the same amount for the phone if they just put in a removable battery. The Edges do nothing for me except make me worry more about dropping my phone. I don't like the fact that it's narrower in width. I realize Samsung is trying to sell more units and suck in as many people as it can, but the Note was made to be a specialty powerhouse device. I personally feel that the regular S series phone should be the main flagship, the S series Edge should be the 2nd fall flagship that battles the Iphone, and the Note series should be geared toward the power users who truly appreciate the phone for it's function and not for it's gimmicks and style. I'm keeping the Note 7 for now, but I'll probably pick up a Note 4 just in case. Do I like it or not? It's still too early to tell, but the cons seem to outweigh the pros. FYI, if you're unhappy with the direction the Note series has been going the last 2 years, let Samsung know about it. I've been sending them suggestions since before the Note 5 was released, requesting a Note Classic version. It would build on from the Note 4 with the highest quality current hardware and software, completely unlocked, etc...

Burning and stinging pain in hands when using phone

Hi all,
I have a new Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Global and a problem. When I'm holding it in my hand, there is a burning and stinging pain in my hand and fingers. Its not a strong but rather a slight pain, but I feel somehow uncomfortable the whole time. I feel the pain not only when holding the phone, it remains a few hours after touching it.
I have the same feeling with a Huawei P20.
I never experienced such thing before and cant explain where this pain is coming from. When using my old phones Samsung Galaxy Note 1 (N7000) and Samsung Galaxy S7 there is no pain.
Has someone experienced such a problem? Maybe there is a coating or something on modern phones that I dont tolerate? Has someone an idea?
I am experiencing the same issue while using Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G.
Samsung Galaxy Note20 5G gave me the same problems.
With iPhone XS Max I had similar problems but they were less intense enough to go on making use of it.
Did you find a solution?

Question What did I luck out ? ❗

Finally received my "Red" 22 Ultra this afternoon.
I have to say my excitement had dwindled to about nothing given so many bad reports from internet wide tech forums (including this one) on the camera, to UI lag to battery hell etc ...
I must also say my experience after 8hrs pretty much coincides with this! :
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Review: A phenomenal 5-star smartphone
The Galaxy S22 Ultra is absolutely fabulous, bringing the very best of Samsung in all areas of the phone experience. Here's our review of the Snapdragon-powered version.
www.xda-developers.com
My home has been butter. Zero ui lag and battery life I'm getting an extra hour sot longer then what my note 20 ultra did when it was new. No complaints.
I've had a fantastic experience so far with my WHT fly ass S22 Ultra, I love it! No issues for me, what so ever.
I had call issues but came out that solution was only an SMS from my provider.
I love this phone. I've always been a Note fan.
No complaints here on my S22U, I really, really like this phone. Coming from an S20U, - this one is smoother...
This phone (and basically any new phone in the past) seems to be either hit or miss based on your expectations. While Exynos did have confirmed issues, SD for me has been amazing. I love the camera (does require a real steady pulse), UI is smooth (and I have the 8GB variant). Once set up properly the phone is sweet.
Of course you will erad a lot of people nagging (some say the sPEN is in the incorrect side, or that Note 10 is the best thing to ever happen ) but dont let anyone's experience ruin yours.
When Note 20 U and S21 U came out there were mixed reviews as well, but if you like it then dont pay attention to what others complain about.
I'm in the same boat too. SD on T-mobile and its been great. Had some minor gps issues but that's now resolved with the latest update. Battery life is slightly better coming from my previous Note 20 ultra which is to be expected with the extra 500mAh or so we're getting with the S22 ultra. I don't even think I have to debloat at this point but never say never I guess

This is totally true!! I was a little scared when placing the order for my S908E (Asia/Africa) after reading all the reviews over the internet. But I still placed the order. 2 days later the phone arrived and I put on my latex glove to inspect it. "FLAWLESS!!" I said. Put the Spigen Thin Fit and Whitestone Dome Glass on. Then, I unlocked the bootloader, root the phone, set it up, and everything went buttery smooth. I love this phone's design and also both hardware and software. To me, it beats any Note in the past. I charged to 100% and go to sleep, wake up with 98% and I am happy with that. Till the end of the day, the phone drop down to 18% after heavily usage which is also fine by me. These new phones nowadays require being charged every day anyways. I upgrade every year so no need to baby the battery. It will be traded in for new phone next year anyways.

Question If you're dumping the Ultra what's replacing it?

Curious which device users are going to run to. If you're happy with the S22 Ultra's performance you're fortunate since there's not much out there that's comparable. With that being shared it's apparent a number of users are moving on. Besides the iPhone which smartphone compares most favorably to the S22 Ultra? I'm inquiring since I've skipped the S22 and will be looking to replace my S21 Ultra soon.

And why exactly would you replace a perfectly fine working S21 Ultra? Just for the sake of having a new phone? I love my S22 Ultra because it's Snap Dragon and no Issues other than video recording jerkiness but fixed that by turning off image stabilization. I haven't even got that 1.5 gig April Update yet. But if I did have a problem and was looking for another phone I would be trying to find an S21 Ultra.
Only the iPhone 13 pro max is comparable in the high spec big storage category.
And I'm not going down that iOS rabbit hole ever again.

The S21 Ultra is a good device, better than the S22 Ultra IMHO but to answer your question I typically upgrade every year. I also use an S10+ and when I switch back to the S21 Ultra it feels so bulky and heavy, ready for a change. As far as the 1.5 Gb update goes, I might pass on it. A number of users with the S22 and the S21 have experienced new issues after updating. I'm on Android 11 OneUI 3.1 and it works perfect, won't risk having the device corrupted by Android 12.

I do that most years for a bit. Get tempted by marketing promises, get excited when I manage to order the model and color i want, then get disappointed when I use it to find it's basically EXACTLY the same experience as the model I used 5 years ago, and go back to android... so I can complain about the battery life!

Keeping my Zfold3. It has issues like poor battery life and I have doubts about the durability of the inner display but there's nothing really else on the market I like at the moment and it's performance is way ahead of the s22u Exynos. May wait for the Zf4.

i think that Oppo Find X5 Pro is a very intriguing device
iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple I loathe to admit has been on a tear lately hardware wise improving its flagship and with the upcoming 14 Pro Max finally getting rid of that hideous notch and possibly a slightly bigger battery it'll be hard to beat. The days have gone when android manufacturers used to be hardware kings and now have seceded everything to Apple while trying to be Apple ironically.

I was in an Apple store last weekend (one of my kids wanted to check it out), and so I played with an iPhone 13 pro max. Not gonna lie, I didn't hate it. It now has sort of an app drawer if you swipe to the left a couple pages. I didn't try to move the apps that were on the home screens, but I *think* you can just use that. The left from home screen is not bad, has weather, news, stuff like that. However, the settings screens are pretty much still the same as they were when I had the 3Gs though (seriously...). Also, barely any widgets, and almost zero customization. I won't buy one, probably ever, but it's come a long way since I last had one. Not quite as boring.
If Android and their phones could just figure out how to be super responsive like iPhones, I would like them sooo much better. Battery life too. Apple is killing it with those two things.
For now I'm still unsure wether I'll keep my S22 Ultra with all the problems the phone's got. It got better with updates, so I'll decide in a few updates if I keep it or not, to see if all the problems are fixed or not.
I kept my iPhone 12 Pro Max just in case, so I would go back to it.
For me the choice is simple: Note experience or iPhone experience, but I do prefer the Note experience thanks to the S Pen.

Indeed. For a phone that Google made to try to jump into the mainstream flagship market, they sure screwed this one up. The fpr on the one I had never worked worth a sh$t. That plus constant network dropouts made that phone an epic fail IMO. I traded it for the ultra as soon as it was announced. I think using a two year old modem, as well as a garbage fpr was a total cheap out move. Also, did I mention the phone is ugly as hell?
I am not changing mine since Ive had 0 issues with it and April's update improved battery quite a bit. However the only phone I would consider replacing it with would be the Oppo X5 Pro.
iOS is out of the question because I can't tolerate iOS. The other Chinese phones are out as they have minimal presence in Canada. Google is a no go because as mentioned it's more of an experimental device at this point.
Thankfully my S22U has been working flawlessly. If this were not the case I guess I'd dig my faithful old LG G7 out of the drawer and use it until something better came along.
