Hi all
I installed the google dialer (2.5.11) on my galaxy S7 (stock 8.0.0).
While I can access my contacts and it shows me my favorites it does not show me contact information in the history tab and on top of that the contact info does not show up when I call someone.
Even worse, it does not show the info when a contact calls me...
Does anybody have an idea why this might be?
I checked every thing that pops into my mind.
I reinstalled the dialer and gave the permissions to read the contacts yet again
The funniest thing is: By chance I put in the phone number by hand for a contact and it showed the info in the call. But only for that contact up until now. But when I call that very same contact from my contacts app it doesn't show the info again.
I simply don't get it... It just doesn't make any sense to me. 1/5232135 times it seems to work barely and otherwise not.
It seems like it can access the info somehow in the contact tab of the dialer app (the way with entering the number by hand) but can't access the contacts of the contacts app (when calling from the contacts app or receiving calls)
Any thoughts?
Much appreciated

when I first got my phone it imported contacts from all over the place, including many places that I didn't want it to. It's a nice feature but I only want to use the contacts in my google account. Initially the phone found contacts on my sim, and t-mobile account. I understand in the contacts app you can go in to view and turn off the other sources, but my problem is on the phone app. When you open the phone app the first screen lists your contacts with your recent calls at the top. In that list my sim contacts are still showing. When I use the "Smart dial" feature it searches all the previous contact sources. Is there a way I can wipe all contact from my phone and just start over with my google contacts?

Click to collapse
So you've tried People > View > Then only have your google account ticked?
Because when i do that none of the contacts from my other accounts show up anywhere else...
I did do that. And on the people screen (which I believe is just the contacts application) those settings are honored. Even with those settings set properly when I go to the main phone screen I see sim contacts mixed in with my google contacts

weird..
The only other thing i'd suggest is moving your sim contacts over to the phone, so they will show up as phone contacts, then hide everything else and see if that makes a difference.
Other than that you might have to delete/unsync all the other accounts with your contacts.
Ya, it's interesting. The people screen definitely pulls a different list than the main phone screen. I removed all contact sources from the people screen so that I see no contacts at all, then on the main phone screen nothing changed. I still see google and sim contacts.
Is there a way to delete all contacts and just start over without wiping my phone?
Well, for the love of god, don't put skype on your phone then. Skype totally raped my contacts list. I have all these random weird contact names in there now that I have no idea who they belong to. It seems that Skype doesn't like to fill out the contact info very well on the mobile device.
Who the hell is bootmomma? LOL! I would really like to get this issue sorted as well. If I find a way without sorting it by hand, I will let you know. The only other way I have found is to sync everything to google and then use the merge duplicates, then sync everything back. Also, there is an app that I use called "Contacts Cleanup" that formats all the numbers on the device to a uniform ###-###-####, which I like. Becareful when linking contacts between types, because sometimes it confuses different things. It has caused me to get numbers interchanged and stupid things to happen, especially when allowing <ahem> Skype access to the address book.
That's the best I have. Hope maybe it helps you a bit.
To wipe all of your contacts go to settings> applications & find contracts storage & wipe that.
A for skype just choose not to sync your contacts in the actual application. They'll still show in the app but won't import to the phone's contact list
Got the same problem as well! thanks for xnifex's idea I am doing it now
I have 4.1.1-based ROM and using the default people app to view contacts. It seems skype/whatsapp decided to display their ugly head into my google contacts thus when trying to call people, some numbers are displayed twice.
example:
-----------------------------------------------------------
like I have an entry for a friend's mobile on google contacts and they also decided to put in their mobile number in skype. Thus the numbers appears twice on the stock contact app and stock phone dialer.. and I don't want this. How do I restrict Android (I suppose this is system-wide?) to retrict contact info to only those coming from google contacts.
-------------------------------------
I have set "contacts to display" to just my personal gmail account but whatsapp/skype info is still displayed. :/
thanks
ps. tried searching the net but not really sure what keywords to use and came back blank
Im running CM10 on 4.1.1, I like to just sync my contacts to Google, you can manage it from your PC very easily should you happen to have double ups you can easily delete them all with a few mouse clicks
Press your settings key in contacts, contacts to display, choose Google and sync them from home screen->settings->accounts, never loose them again. I found I lost a few contacts here and there with Titanium over time so I just use Google.
You might want to click import/export from contacts-settings to get any numbers you might be missing from your SIM card.
I don't leave sync on permanently just remember to do it once a week as I'm quite a jew when it comes to battery life.
Hi all,
On incoming calls, gear shows only caller phone number, and no name or picture. Any way to fix that?
Thank you
Caller ID Gear 2
I'm having same issue here, only phone numbers and couldn't sort it out!
Any news?
Thank you
same problem...
Just wanted to share that I do have the same problem...
What I have tried so far:
Full reset of watch,
Complete uninstall and reinstall of gear manager,
Google contacts only (on my phone),
Device contacts only (on my phone),
Manually re-added all contact pictures.
Nothing helped except full reset of watch and gear manager.
It worked for 10 minutes and then stopped working!!
Please someone help !
☺
No one can help?
I'm surprised we are only a few who encounter this problem...
Solved!!
At last... It's now been working for a couple days so I think I finally got it fixed...
What I did (not sure which step did the job but here is all I did to make it work):
- un-sync Google contacts, or any other sync of your contacts,
- only use "device" contacts,
- go into your contacts settings, edit, and make sure "default caller ID" has a picture associated with it,
- in Gear manager, select "favorites" only, not all your contacts.
That last step sure was necessary. Now my favorite contacts (only ones for whom I have pics anyway) show caller ID on my watch for incoming and outgoing calls.
Hope I helped someone!
I have an unlocked US variant S6 SM-G920T with Baseband (G920TUEU3COK1).
I have been using it on Tmobile without issues since Cyber Monday.
But now, randomly, when I get a phone call from a contact that is already in the phone, I see the number on the display rather than the contact name. After I either answer or reject or allow to go to voicemail, and then go look at the call log, the contact name is displayed. This is getting annoying as I keep ignoring calls that I would like to take ( and sometimes need to take).
Only thing I've tried is to clear data and clear cache in the contacts app.
Phone is not rooted. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Couple of questions:
1) Is it all contacts, or just some?
2) What type of contacts are they? Phone contacts, Gmail contacts or some other account?
All my contacts are stored in Google. So they were synced when I setup the phone. The issue seems to be random, but more often than not. I tried clearing the data in the phone app as well. No luck.
Thanks.
Update: I have just seen that this issue is for all incoming calls when the phone is in a LOCKED state.
When the call comes through while I am using the phone the contract shows fine with the name.
But still no solution in sight.
My phone had battery issues lately causing it to restart every now and then.
One fine day, I lost all my phone contacts. They aren't accessible to any apps, or show up in Contacts. However, if I do a search for contact name in Dialer app, I can see the contact. The contacts are only available in the search part of the Dialer and nowhere else. If I dial the contact, the name doesn't show up in the history or the dialling screen.
Is there any way to restore these contacts?
I got signed off quite a few apps as well, but that's irrelevant for this thread.
For what it is worth, these are the phone specs:
