First steps before flashing a Samsung LDU - General Questions and Answers

I have an (encrypted) Samsung tablet which still runs Android 7.0. It is a WIFI-only LDU. Without a provider it never received the OTA's.
I'm preparing to flash to Android 9, but I am having some trouble. First, with identifying the CSC. The tablet has no dialer for the *#1234# code and the DRParser method
Open the calculator app, type (+30012012732+
From the DRParser Mode, type *#1234#
does not work. As the tablet has no provider, there also is no provider data in the About tablet menu. The downloader/recovery does not show the CSC either.
I have a couple of questions. Current FAQs or guides are welcome as answers.
> The Phone INFO Samsung app nowadays costs about €5. Does it still work? Is there some other method to get the CSC information?
> If I flash from Android 7.0 to 9, will the firmware update my installed apps to conform with Android 9 or should I factory reset and start clean?
> What is the most reliable method to backup and restore the entire tablet -- system, apps, cache and all -- in 2022?

IMO the only reliable method is doing an Online-NANDroid-backup, what requires Android is rooted - but this can be a temporary root.

android market for android 2.2 for middleeast/uae

How android market can be available in samsung galaxy s for UAE/Middleeast after upgrading to android 2.2?
I heard that the following method not working for 2.2.
************************************************************************************************************************************
It seems that android market is not allowed in middle east , Samsung Galaxy S devices always shipped without Android Market installed.
to resolve this I goggled and found the below resolve
1. ensure your Galaxy S Phone is set to use 24-hour format
(applications-> Settings-> date and time -> Use 24-hour format
2. launch the Phone Pad
3. enter the following :
*#272* the follow it with the time on the phone (4 digits) then follow it with #
example, the time on my phone now is 18:51 hence I shall enter *#272*1851#
4. the phone shall display a new window.
(BEFORE PROCEEDING SEE EXTORIAN'S WARNING BELOW)
5. select "XSG" and hit "install"
the Phone shall reload and your "Market Apps" icon which be there.
************************************************************************************************************************************
I want to upgrade to 2.2. Is it true this method wont work in android 2.2. I found in some thread that the above method not working after upgrading to 2.2. Is it bcause they didnt format after upgrading it or they didnt factory reset the phone?
Please help me. after seeing the thread I didnt go for upgradation.

[Help]I Un-rooted my Phone so I can run a certain app but still run into problems

Hello, as the title says, I un-rooted my phone a few days ago... I used KingRoot, and I also used the Un-Root option on their windows app when I un-rooted my phone. I also used Root Checker App and the Terminal Emulator App from Google Play to verify, the results showed that my phone is no longer rooted.
Note: I'm also very newbie and most of the time, very clueless when it comes to these Android Rooting business, so I would appreciate it as well if the answers will be newbie friendly, and I apologize as well if I'm asking to be spoonfed for the solutions; I only have very limited time, and me hunting for answers in google resulted in hours of wasted time, except on me being able to learn just the meaning of a very few terminologies, too few to be considered significant I think.
~~(Might be helpful) Details:
-The model is: Samsung Galaxy Core Duos GT-I8262, and is running the Android Jelly Bean (Android Version 4.1.2)
-For a more detailed firmware/rom info (after dialing *#1234#):
AP: I8262XXAMG6
CP (Baseband Version): I8262DXAMH1
CDC: I8262OLBBMH2
Kernel Version:
3.4.0-1322246-user
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Mon Jul 22 17:26:39
KST 2013
~~Situation:
Now the thing is, the app I am using no longer allows phones who are rooted, so I un-rooted my phone, and to begin with, I haven't really done anything with my phone being rooted, since back then I was trying to fit my games on my external SD card by installing apps which requires root... but everything I tried with my limited time didn't work even with root, so I did not bother to do anything root-related (like installing certain UI modification and such). The only thing that got installed on my phone is this KingRoot app (which I prevented from installing any other app that it offered), and is since then removed.
Now, I un-rooted my phone using the Windows App that KingRoot provided, and I even used Root Checker app from Google Play and even checked my root status using the Terminal Emulator; results are all cleared, my phone is no longer rooted.
But when I run this app, it still gives me an error code that the devs themselves provided... an error code that indicates that my phone is either Rooted, is a China Phone, or other problems.
For the first two problems; Rooted or China Phone; I'm supposed to be cleared of this, and my phone is a Samsung bought from an official dealer...
As for the third problem: one of my friends who uses the same app told me that my problem might lie on my ROM not being a "Global" one... from the Firmware info I provided, I can see an area code called 'DX' (which should stand for Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, and I am in the Philippines right now).
~~Problems:
There comes a whole lot of new problems, but first, to sum up my whole problem:
--What should I do with my phone to change its ROM or Firmware (what should I change between these two to begin with?) so that it becomes "Global" and would finally allow me to run this App (a Game), WHILE at the same time, still allows me to use my Sim Card in the country I am in right now and still being able to keep all my data intact (assuming Flashing a ROM would erase my phone's data particularly in the internal storage)?
Specific Problems:
-With my limited time, I only am able to find tutorials that allows one to flash a ROM using a Rooted Device... should I root my phone again and do the flashing then remove the root? And before that... really, what in the world should I do? (Refers to my question above on my problem summary), like, how should I flash this ROM while my device is unrooted, what should I do? (I'm really sorry for this question, but I hope someone will help me on this...)
-I am having dilemmas with backing up my data in my phone, such as my notes on the built-in Memo App, and my research said I have to use Titanium Backup... which requires a rooted device to work... can I just use this "Backup and Reset" from my phone's Settings and would still allow me retrieve my notes on my Memo App as well as my contacts and Text Messages intact after I flashed this "Global" ROM?
-I cannot seem to find a ROM that is "Global"(?) for my Smartphone Model and Android Version whenever I search google... can anyone of you who are knowledgeable enough provide me with such? Searching for it using google is not giving me any exact answers...
-I have read during my research earlier that when I flashed a ROM that is not in my country, my Sim Card would fail to work? Then what should I do to make this phone have this "Global" ROM/Firmware which will allow me to run this App, while at the same time, still allows me to use my Sim Card in this country without any problems?
-To begin with, from the data I provided:
AP: I8262XXAMG6
CP (Baseband Version): I8262DXAMH1
I see from the AP the area code 'XX' which denotes that it's Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, right? Then isn't my phone "Global" already? I'm very, VERY confused...
---
These are all the questions I have in my mind right now. I hope someone would help me with my problems, and clarify necessary things from my problem. If someone could also direct me to a tutorial of sorts, on flashing a "Global" rom that would enable me to run this App, while still making my phone's data intact and still allows me to use my Sim Card for communication purposes here in the Philippines, would greatly be appreciated as well.
Thank you all in advance, sorry for the long post too, I tried giving all the details I could and asking all the questions I could that might help pinpoint the problem as well as might help in providing me a solution that would work to fix my problem.

Have you actually seen or at least hear of AT&T LG V10 with a H900, H901 or F600 board? I was told by a senior member here at XDA that LG used the same motherboard for Sprint and AT&T (which is VS990) and my phone's board is VS990 as well. I have seen 4 other AT&T LG V10 around here, and all of them have a VS990 board, not H900, F600 or H901.
I am having the same issue me firmware is of h900 (at&t) and motherboard is of vs990.
Did you find any solution for this ??

SM-J337A: Need to Access Certain Permissions and/or Root

Hello. I have been an Android user since 2012, and am new to the XDA-Developers forum.
I am technically inclined to a point, but I am by no means in the Developer category. I have successfully rooted one phone, but that was running Android 5.0 and the process seemed to be A LOT simpler than that which is required for today's more sophisticated operating systems.
I come here tonight seeking assistance with an unlocked Samsung SM-J337A running Android 8.0. I purchased this phone online and not from a carrier. Specifically, I am seeking to gain write permission access to the SD card for all third-party apps. None of the automatic call recording apps available in the Play Store function properly without this permission, and in my work I require a phone running Android 7.0 at minimum. Additionally, I am seeking to install a system-wide ad blocker which doesn't necessitate using a battery-draining VPN.
Here are the stats from this phone:
Baseband: J337AUCU3ARJ1
Kernel: 3.18.14-13465503-QB20325568
Build: R16NW.J337AUCU3ARJ1
Knox: 3.1, API level 25, TIMA 4.0.0
Security: ASKS v1.4 Release 180123; FIPS BoringSSL v1.2; SMR Sep-2018 Release 1
I need to know if what I am seeking to do with this phone is possible. Otherwise, I will have to obtain an Android 7.0 or 8.0 phone with which I can successfully gain these permissions or outright root to accomplish same.
So far, all I have been able to do is access Developer Options. From there, I cannot even determine if this device has an unlocked bootloader as there is no "OEM Unlock" option or anything remotely similar under that menu option.
Please assist me with suggestions on how best to proceed. Thank you.

I assume you are looking for a way to root, so I'd like to share some things with you. I have looked at this phone too, and found it has some very odd booting. There is no fastboot. Instead you have to make due with Download Mode. Power + Home + Volume up (or down) on boot will bring you to download mode. If it brings you to recovery, try the other volume button. Choosing download mode from recovery is only for recovering the current installation. (I think) Once in download mode, you will see some info in the top left corner. In order to unlock the flashing of ROMS (This is required for rooting with Magisk) you need to disable FRP. AKA, sign out of your google account on your phone. You should thus be able to install custom ROMs. In order for Magisk to work, you need a copy of your current firmware. I found some sights with downloads, but they were either untrustworthy, paid for, or the ROM was nonexistent. After searching online, I found another, official, and free way that you can get the official firmware for Samsung devices through Samsung's Smart Switch application. The only problem is that the program will only download the ROM if you have an available update on your sm-j337a. I'm up to date with the first android pie update on my sm-j337a. If you've held off patching, I would:
Install smart switch both mobile and PC.
Set preferences to preload ROMs in PC version (download first, then choose install)
Copy the ROM from user 》 documents》 Samsung
If this works, please share the ROM. My phone is too updated to test it.
You can then use the Magisk guide for rooting.

Honeywell EDA50-011 HH Computer / Barcode Scanner

Honeywell EDA50 Handheld Computer / barcode scanner
Currently on Android 7.1 from Android 4.4.4 (assumption)
There are 2 versions of this, with and without Google Mobile Services.
I need to free up a lot of RAM to avoid app closures when using the
scanner to interact with very java-heavy pages. To further this effort,
I have already 'disabled' almost everything that I can incl the OEM
chrome in favor of Chromium. Its not enough. This is a 2G/16G device.
The bootloader is supposedly unlockable, but HW support has no
idea how to do it. Original ROM for either 4.4 or 7.1 of either
flavor are not available per HW engineering. Device is End Of Life.
Thoughts / Suggestions?
Why don't you flash the non GMS version instead of disabled the gms app?

Non-GMS is not available as an 'intact' ROM, only ota updates.
Non-GMS updates will not install, likely version conflict. Though I could probably start with initial Android 4.x and progress from there... I would need root in order to do so... And the original ROM image.
You could downgrade the eda50 to android 4.x first. Use the update from sdcard function to do it from stock recovery. After it done, just go back to recovery and upgrade itu to android 7.1 non-gms version. It doesn't beed root or bootloader unlocked. Just try using the stock recovery and sdcard.
In order to downgrade, I need an intact 'whole' rom image. Trying to revert to Android 4.x using an OTA merely results in factory wipe and clean slate start with Android 7.1, gms intact.
Think that I start to look into how to unlock bootloader. If can root, in particular root shell, then perhaps can Frankenstein a version that works but no gms. This just became a possibility after an engineer (at Honeywell) let it slip that nothing special is needed to unlock.
Incidentally, engineer states that if I happen to find a new-in-box version, that app licensing is intact (no charge) for Android 4 platform. It was also mentioned there is a backup rom image stored in the "IPSW" partition but is removed when jump to Android 7.
Now to see if I can find a NIB Android 4 EDA50...
