Honeywell EDA50-011 HH Computer / Barcode Scanner - General Questions and Answers

Honeywell EDA50 Handheld Computer / barcode scanner
Currently on Android 7.1 from Android 4.4.4 (assumption)
There are 2 versions of this, with and without Google Mobile Services.
I need to free up a lot of RAM to avoid app closures when using the
scanner to interact with very java-heavy pages. To further this effort,
I have already 'disabled' almost everything that I can incl the OEM
chrome in favor of Chromium. Its not enough. This is a 2G/16G device.
The bootloader is supposedly unlockable, but HW support has no
idea how to do it. Original ROM for either 4.4 or 7.1 of either
flavor are not available per HW engineering. Device is End Of Life.
Thoughts / Suggestions?

Why don't you flash the non GMS version instead of disabled the gms app?

Non-GMS is not available as an 'intact' ROM, only ota updates.
Non-GMS updates will not install, likely version conflict. Though I could probably start with initial Android 4.x and progress from there... I would need root in order to do so... And the original ROM image.

You could downgrade the eda50 to android 4.x first. Use the update from sdcard function to do it from stock recovery. After it done, just go back to recovery and upgrade itu to android 7.1 non-gms version. It doesn't beed root or bootloader unlocked. Just try using the stock recovery and sdcard.

In order to downgrade, I need an intact 'whole' rom image. Trying to revert to Android 4.x using an OTA merely results in factory wipe and clean slate start with Android 7.1, gms intact.
Think that I start to look into how to unlock bootloader. If can root, in particular root shell, then perhaps can Frankenstein a version that works but no gms. This just became a possibility after an engineer (at Honeywell) let it slip that nothing special is needed to unlock.
Incidentally, engineer states that if I happen to find a new-in-box version, that app licensing is intact (no charge) for Android 4 platform. It was also mentioned there is a backup rom image stored in the "IPSW" partition but is removed when jump to Android 7.
Now to see if I can find a NIB Android 4 EDA50...

Hi! I've installed it in multirom with a stock 5.0.1 as primary and it works, just tried it for few minutes.
just be sure to have the latest bootolader (HHZ12h) or installation will fail.
Flashing a bootloader
Hi,
I have a Nexus 5 and I use Multirom with it. My default ROM is Lollipop 5.1.1 and a secondary ROM, which I mostly use, is Marshmallow 6.0 (xTraSmooth). I want to install CopperheadOS, but it says when installing, that I must have HHZ12h bootloader in order to install (as stated in a previous post). My current bootloader is HHZ11k. If I install HHZ12h bootloader by flashing a zip file which includes LMY48B_Radio+Bootloader-HHZ12h will it cause anything that prevents Lollipop or Marshmallow to work properly?

You don't need to downgrade the bootloader, just modify the updater script of the rom ( deleting the string containing the bootloader version or replacing with your current version), then it will install just fine.

Thanks! I haven't tried that yet, but I will. First I thought I can just replace HHZ12h with HHZ11k using text editor, but then I noticed there are guides which suggest that it isn't quite that easy. I might be wrong about that, will see when I have enough time to read up on the subject.

It's easy, just extract the rom, go to Meta-Inf/com/google/android and modify the "updater-script". That's all, rebuild the zip and flash in recovery.
Edit: you can do it without using a PC, by using a file manager on your device.

Just installed it on a Nexus 5x and it works flawless. It has most of the standard stuff but is different from the rest in that it is supposed to be security oriented. That means no default root (but rooting should be possible).
I didn't try to add Google stuff yet and probably won't even try to add that spyware but it does have the F-Droid app store.
There are some extra options to secure the memory if required, and the documentation is (so far) very good (for example the install guide and the technical overview).
Currently running it on my Nexus 5x and N5. works great. Anything you are missing you can find on F-Droid. I find the lack of data usage to be delightful; when facebook or ebaum videos auto load on other software, they are stopped on copperhead. very happy with the security.
The only thing i can not make work is voice to text, and I have a ticket in with copperhead. who cares, I have fast thumbs.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess manual apk installation is also possible?
I'm thinking about picking up a Nexus 5 as a backup device, and CopperheadOS seems like something fun to play with, instead of just installing CM13. Can I install TWRP as recovery on devices like the Nexus 5 that don't check for locked bootloaders? Can I run it as basically another ROM –*unlocked developer options, root, TWRP, etc.? I realize the OS exists for enhanced security, but I'd like to make a few tradeoffs.
Unfortunately, you can not run TWRP with copperhead, it wants full control of the phone for security reasons. Its not meant to be a developer OS with access to all the bits, so you kind of need to want a OS in a box that you can deal with.
But I have to say, despite its shortcomings of not having google services, it works pretty much flawless on my 5 and 5x. i miss google maps app, but it works 100% via chromium browser as a favorite, and I have only found 2 apps I can not import via apkmirror, one being Waze, the other is my local public transportation app. other than that, i feel like I'm safe from prying eyes.

Thanks for your response. I'm a fan of CyanogenMod, and I'm not unhappy their security or features, but I wanted to play around with CopperheadOS. I understand the tradeoff between security and convenience, but I'm not willing to sacrifice TWRP in the mix. Oh, well – if I ever have need of an OS solely for its security track record, I know where to go.
It doesn't look to me like Copperhead is supporting the Nexus 5 anymore. Can somebody confirm or is there a link I'm missing somewhere to the ROM?
EDIT: Yep, I knew it was deprecated for a while now but they've even removed the deprecated ROM from the site now. I'd appreciate it if anybody has the last ROM if they could pass it my way.

Switch debugging OFF and don't lock bootloader after CopperheadOS install and u will be able to boot TWRP via
fastboot boot recovery.img [TWRP]
I'm currently experimenting with root privileges on CopperheadOS on Nexus 5X. Still haven’t tried xposed framework.
Security features r quite good, especially different lock code && encryption password and memory protection, but, there is a lack of fine privacy control (Privacy Guard) as in CyanogenMod and firewall, hence the need for root.

I've been using CopperheadOS for a few weeks now on the Nexus5. Received the latests OTA a few days ago and applied without issue.
Installed it via TWRP. Have rooted the device with SuperSU, though have to re-root after re-flashing recovery after each OTA.
It's been working great.
Unfortunately I don't have the img any more

Official EUI 6.0.030S ROM (CN-EN) for Le Pro 3 AI [project x7 | codenames x650-x659]

Few days ago as expected, official users (who is using CN-EN official ROMs) of Le Pro 3 AI (further mentioned "x7") got an OTA update to the latest release of EUI 6.0.030S.
The miracle that expected was not appeared. It is still based on Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow).
The ROM is still not localized for other countries, it contains only CN and EN languages.
And there still many bloatware of LeEco services that is very annoyance.
But first of all, the apps inside are now more optimized and as I see, they starting and function faster then previously.
Ok, let's go to the main part - links =)
The Official Site where you can download the ROM based on OTA update scheme is HERE. Also you can download a copy of OTA package from HERE.
But if you want to download faster, you can use my clouds where I'm continuously holding the most of Official ROMs for x7.
---> MEGA (follow into the folder called "original_stock")
---> FEX
Inside my clouds you can find that the ROM filenames contains not only a version but also an appropriate suffix (_OTA or _FASTBOOT). It's used to separate the ROMs by the installation method.
The FASTBOOT prepared ROMs contains an installation scripts (.BAT for Windows and .SH for Linux/Mac) for not only full installation (with clearing of User Storage), but also for update (without clearing of User Storage).
Please be careful, don't even try to install via FASTBOOT without clearing of User Storage, if you currently have functioning non Official multilingual EUI like 5.9.027S (faked as 028S in menu "About phone") or other non official!!! If you'll do this you will get many conflicts in settings and apps.
I expect that the FASTBOOT updating instructions are widely known, but remind them once more:
1) Enable the "Developer options" menu by clicking on "Build number" 7 times in the "About phone"
2) In the "Developer options" menu, turn on "OEM unlocking" and "USB debugging"
3) Connect the phone to the computer with a USB cable
4) Run one of the installation scripts from the folder of the unpacked firmware
5) Immediately upon startup, allow on the phone screen the "USB debugging" permission for your computer, preferably within the checkbox "always trust this device"
6) Wait until the installation process finishes (15-20 mins), calmly referring to the fact that the phone itself will reboot into FASTBOOT mode, and also please ignore the Sparse format error message (it's normal)
7) The phone itself will reboot into a new OS ... the first launch will be very long
Please feel free to ask anything here about the installation process, cloud links etc.
But be ready that I'm not fast answering.
Any other questions including the comparison of EUI versions performance and functionality will be ignored by me.

ROM does not have Google applications. You need install it. I think this still working in this version: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/leeco-le-pro3-a1-model-x651-guides-development--and-mods/automated-installer-gapps-morelocale2-t3752576
Ok installed the 30s mod version from https. ://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=895159&st= 2020#entry77308634

030S mod is based on APKs of 030S with few modifications... but it also runs the old Boot from version 027S... so it may have some unexpected behavior...
yes, all of these ROMs have no root... but with mods based on Boot of 027S version you can use a temporary root (one time booting into TWRP) for further system modifications and then back to boot with native stock kernel and modified system will run good (expect the problems with apps you may cause by modifications)

What you can't see? The scripts?
You need to look at the contains of unpacked ROM zip that have suffix "FASTBOOT" in filename. There must be files with names like "x7_fastboot_tool.bat" and "x7_fastboot_tool_noUser.bat" and also same files with ".sh" extensions for Linux.
For installation to start you need to run one of this scripts. To run from CLI (CMD), not by double-clicking on it.

This is an OTA package. But it's buggy, my try to make a direct update from 028S to this 030S with OTA way was failed, and I heart many reviews about same behavior.
So I think the best way to update is to use Fastboot with scripts and executable provided in my package that contains "_FASTBOOT" suffix in filename.
From there you can use script "x7_fastboot_tool_noUser.bat" (or .sh option in Linux) to make update to 030S (only from clean stock 025S, 026S or 028S, not from fake 027S or any mod) without clearing of Userdata Storage.
Or you can use script "x7_fastboot_tool.bat" (or .sh option in Linux) to make a new installation of 030S with clearing of Userdata Storage (from any other previous ROM).
If you can't download by my links provided in topic, please write here and I'll try to solve this.

My x650 shows 87000 in antutu on 030S. I can't know what is reason you having less.
Currently my Le pro 3 ai is on non official 5.9.27s I have to downgrade it to 5.9.25s.what should I do. Further I want to update my device to eui 6.0.30s. Any help is highly appreciated .
I think that is 027s custom rom better than this 028s. I recommend you to not change anything.

As an example of this way how to move into stock 028S with flashing first 025S and then just update to 028S (or 030S if you want) I prepared a video half of year ago. HERE
I understand that not all processes there are perfect... for example I used ADB to push ROM instead of MTP that is much faster =)
But if you have experience and you sure in other option of processing the steps explained in this video - enjoy and good luck.
Hope it will help somebody.
P.S.: Now I have some trouble with focus (can't focus larger then 120 cm) in stock Camera on EUI 030S and have a plan to get 028S back just for testing of Camera and focus processing.
P.S.2.: If you will have desire to get back into custom 027S you had earlier, you always can make it. It's available on both forums (XDA & 4pda). But you need to know, that changing of using between clean stock and custom ROMs is always requires you to clean a Userspace too.
Thanks for your reply . But I want to ask is there is risk of getting brick if anything goes wrong.

SM-J337A: Need to Access Certain Permissions and/or Root

Hello. I have been an Android user since 2012, and am new to the XDA-Developers forum.
I am technically inclined to a point, but I am by no means in the Developer category. I have successfully rooted one phone, but that was running Android 5.0 and the process seemed to be A LOT simpler than that which is required for today's more sophisticated operating systems.
I come here tonight seeking assistance with an unlocked Samsung SM-J337A running Android 8.0. I purchased this phone online and not from a carrier. Specifically, I am seeking to gain write permission access to the SD card for all third-party apps. None of the automatic call recording apps available in the Play Store function properly without this permission, and in my work I require a phone running Android 7.0 at minimum. Additionally, I am seeking to install a system-wide ad blocker which doesn't necessitate using a battery-draining VPN.
Here are the stats from this phone:
Baseband: J337AUCU3ARJ1
Kernel: 3.18.14-13465503-QB20325568
Build: R16NW.J337AUCU3ARJ1
Knox: 3.1, API level 25, TIMA 4.0.0
Security: ASKS v1.4 Release 180123; FIPS BoringSSL v1.2; SMR Sep-2018 Release 1
I need to know if what I am seeking to do with this phone is possible. Otherwise, I will have to obtain an Android 7.0 or 8.0 phone with which I can successfully gain these permissions or outright root to accomplish same.
So far, all I have been able to do is access Developer Options. From there, I cannot even determine if this device has an unlocked bootloader as there is no "OEM Unlock" option or anything remotely similar under that menu option.
Please assist me with suggestions on how best to proceed. Thank you.

I assume you are looking for a way to root, so I'd like to share some things with you. I have looked at this phone too, and found it has some very odd booting. There is no fastboot. Instead you have to make due with Download Mode. Power + Home + Volume up (or down) on boot will bring you to download mode. If it brings you to recovery, try the other volume button. Choosing download mode from recovery is only for recovering the current installation. (I think) Once in download mode, you will see some info in the top left corner. In order to unlock the flashing of ROMS (This is required for rooting with Magisk) you need to disable FRP. AKA, sign out of your google account on your phone. You should thus be able to install custom ROMs. In order for Magisk to work, you need a copy of your current firmware. I found some sights with downloads, but they were either untrustworthy, paid for, or the ROM was nonexistent. After searching online, I found another, official, and free way that you can get the official firmware for Samsung devices through Samsung's Smart Switch application. The only problem is that the program will only download the ROM if you have an available update on your sm-j337a. I'm up to date with the first android pie update on my sm-j337a. If you've held off patching, I would:
Install smart switch both mobile and PC.
Set preferences to preload ROMs in PC version (download first, then choose install)
Copy the ROM from user 》 documents》 Samsung
If this works, please share the ROM. My phone is too updated to test it.
You can then use the Magisk guide for rooting.

hello, im having the same device, did you. find any solution to it yet?
[GUIDE][RECOVERY][ROM] Xiaomi/Fengmi/Wemax Mi Led/Laser Projector/TV
Projectivy Launcher (formerly ProjecTivy Tools) now has its own dedicated thread located here. Intro There's so much information here that a new user could probably feel lost without the courage to read everything. So let's keep things simple ...
forum.xda-developers.com
MJJGTYDS02FM (Mijia Projector Youth edition) [conan]
Full rom 1.3.97 (6.0.1.304)
Full rom 1.3.123 (6.0.1.519) (Prefer this version as it's probably compatible with most recent devices too)
TYY01ZM (Xiaomi Mijia Mi) [zodiac]
Full rom 1.3.67 (6.0.1.391)
M055FCN (Fengmi M055FCN) [doraemon]
Full rom 1.3.123 (6.0.1.309)
How to flash :
[OTA only] be sure your current firmware version is the same as the "from" version specified above.
Download and extract the zip file to the root of a USB thumb device and follow the procedure to boot into recovery mode. The full firmware or OTA update will be automatically installed (approximately 5 minutes will be necessary). You shouldn't lose any data (well, unless there's a power cut during the update process ). Even after flashing the full firmware, I still had my apps installed. I suppose you need to factory reset if you want a clean install.
Those willing to reinstall from scratch will need to use the "wipe all data" from the recovery menu. If you can't acces it somehow, you can try flashing a full rom (935 for rainman, 312 for batman *mijia* or 494 for batman *fengmi/wemax*), and then flash to the latest available OTA (you might need to chain flash if no direct OTA is available from you stock full rom to the rom you're targeting).
Please note that for a few users, the OTA won't install (it will stop during the update process with a chinese message). It's due to the fact that during installation, a check on the system files and kernel is made and at least one could not pass. This will be the case if you have rooted your device (only kernel is modified then). In that case, if you want to apply the update, you'll need to revert to an unmodified kernel/system. If you didn't modify system partition, restoring kernel partition (boot.img) should be enough (or uninstall Magisk from magisk manager app). If not, try restoring system.img also. If nothing works, reinstall from scratch (see just above)

My phone got hacked - Android 11 RCE vulnerability, how to remove whatever is there?

Hello, my Android 11 device got hacked by bluetooth, when I was watching youtube in public appeared popup notification with ad to buy better headphones. It appeared 3x times in a row with no X and it looked strength and amateurly, but it doesn't matter. My question is - does any rom flash will wipe all memory including any script or whatever might be running there? I have no idea how rom flash will affect any processes which might be running there.

The original manufacturer's firmware overwrites everything. You should check exactly what version you currently have and flash the same version, as long as the manufacturer of your phone has released the firmware.
